thick, so dense fog, not as dense as yesterday, hazy sunshine inland today but it looks like a cooler pattern for those away from the coast. can't get much cooler, friday maybe high clouds, the fog bank deeper will lift a little bit and local drizzle. might even be some today along the immediate coat, 40s and 50s, not much a difference, maybe 5 or 6 degrees at inteft, upper 40s and 50s, san francisco 632 days ago, 61 yesterday, 59 today, too much fog today, the days are getting short, here that is system, we wish it would do rain but it is doing that, so some fog, morning sun and that is picking up, 50s, 60s, coast and bay, inland out of the 80s now more 70s, here is sal. >> steve, good morning, looking at the roads and so far looks good, certainly nothing like
4:31 am
earlier in the week when the trains were not running but do have traffic on the roads looking good. the fog as you mentioned is not as thick in some areas right now but you and i both know that could change and we will figure it out. this is 880 freeway north and southbound, for example the fog does not look as bad yesterday at this time we could barely see what was underneath this camera what was here but i can see up to high street and beyond in this picture. the morning commute is going to be actually okay if you are driving into south bay. one of the things we are worried about is that fire underneath the bart train in arinda, that still could affect bart service this morning. passengers start spotted smoke coming up from under the cars that pulled into the station yesterday, christien kafton joins us, i just got off the phone with bart central, they say -- >> reporter: yeah, sal, it is
4:32 am
sounding like this very well could have an impact on this morning's commute. let's show you you said it started at 6:10 yesterday evening. take a look, you can see fire crews still on scene here working on the bart train add up there you can see the train still in the station here. we have some video shot by fire crews overnight and an explanation as to why the work is still going on and why this whole thing has been so difficult. firefighters tell me the fire again broke out at 6:10 last night. during that fire a 1200 pound piece of equipment was damaged and fell on to the tracks, the train cannot move until that piece is removed, the problem initially wozniac that piece, which acts kind of lake a battery was still charged with electricity, so they had to work together to hit a circuit breaker to make it safe then have had the long task of trying to remove it from the tracks. >> what looked like it was going to be maybe a two hour thing we were going to put the
4:33 am
fire out and move the train and everybody was going to go home has turned into an all night cooperation really between bart and our fire district trying to get this piece of machinery off the track and the only way to get it off the track was to cut it apart with torches. >> firefighters tell me they have been using everything in their arsenal, using circular saws, torches, the jaws of life, anything they can to take apart this piece of equipment, apparently it is a lead core, has copper parts and case hardened steel around it so it is a very difficult piece to dismantle, crews still working on that, what we are hearing is that it will be at least another 45 minutes to an hour until that piece is dissembled and they want move it off the track then they will move the train off the tracks and then of course do a track inspection, so this certainly could last at least a few hours and could very well affect the morning commute.
