information is a description of the gunman and his vehicle. he says that the 2010 or newer white vehicle with large polished chromed rims, the driver described as 25-30 years old, a latino or portuguese man with dark short hair and a widow's peak. this is the second case of road rage in the last eight days. an autopsy of a 13-year-old boy shot to death by a sheriff's deputy in santa rosa shows that the boy was shot seven times. for a second night, classmates of andy lopez held a vigil at the site where he was killed tuesday. the eighth grader was a few blocks from home. he was carrying an air soft gun that closely resembles an ak 47. the sheriff's department claims that the boy ignored orders to put down the gun before a deputy fired hitting him seven times. you can see why the evening commute was hard tonight, with

this truck dangling over an overpass at the busy interchange between highway 101 and interstate 280 near alameny. the freeway was shut down so crews could get the truck back on the road and tow it away. the rush-hour accident left cars backed up for miles on northbound 101 heading towards san francisco. you can see all the lights right there. it has taken several hours to get traffic going back to normal. leaders and workers remembering the two men killed on a bart tracks quickly turpd ly turned into a screaming match with finger pointing and hurt feelings. >> reporter: it was to be a straightforward resolution in memory of two workers killed on the job. but what happened next seemed to stun the board. >> shame on everybody, the

because the strike just ended that there would be another huge delay. >> reporter: there was a delay for some passengers when fire and smoke could be seen coming out at the cole station. >> we figured out it was a motor reactor, which is a electrical component of a car. it weighs about 1200 pounds. >> reporter: radio dispatchers held the doors open. some passengers say no evacuation was ordered, and some were even unaware of of the fire. the train stranded for hours but removed before the morning commute. >> this is after a very long night. crews worked throughout the night to figure out exactly why this train wasn't moving. >> reporter: it is unclear what caused that motor to overheat. when asked if age could have played a role, bart says all of its trained are old. 30 years is the average, the oldest fleet of any major us transit agency. in this case, the fire was small with no immediate safety risk to riders on this train. >> i'm not really worried about it, but at the same time, i

mean, they are kind of old. >> reporter: the vast majority of bart's trains were first put into service in 1972 and despite a retrofit are nearing the end of service. bart is in the planning process of rebuilding its entire fleet. a business owner is dealing with fire damage today. the fire started about 11:00 last night at b & d towing in an industrial area south of concord avenue. firefighters headed out in 20 minutes but as many as six cars and a motorhome was damaged. the building was also filled with -- smoke. prosecutors say the off-duty sergeant charged in a dui hit-and-run crash had a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit. he is seen here in a ktvu interview from 2006. police say hayman hit a parked

car at 12th and lawton in the sunset district two weeks ago. neighbors heard the crash and called police. officers followed a trail of debris to his home a half mile away. he is currently on paid leave. tenant advocate are calling for a solution to what they say is an eviction epidemic in san francisco. a coalition of housing advocates met on the steps of city hall this afternoon to ask city leaders for help. there has been an 81% increase in ellis act evictions this year by land lords who convert their rentals and sell them as tenants in common. >> right now, these tic's are completely unregulated, and they're unlimited. there's no piece of paper that has to be filed anywhere to create one of these. so we see the evictions and see huge numbers of these. >> housing advocates say many of the victims' families have been in their homes for decades under rent control and are faced now with an impossible task to find new housing in their old

president for vehicle programs for the palo alto car maker. he led the development of the mac book air, the mac book pro and the i-mac. he began his career at ford motor company. the feds have decided not to open a formal investigation into this fire that damaged a tesla near seattle. the fair political practices commission handed down a record fine of $1 million to two nonprofits for violating california campaign finance regulations. the pp or fppc levied fines against the two organizations, americans for responsible leadership, and the center to protect patient's rights. the fppc has the latter group to secretly conservative -- to charles and david cope. >> the nonprofits and the donors to them sought to exploit

one of two students injured in a nevada school shooting today is talking about the danger of guns. >> i'm lucky to be alive and that the bullet didn't go through me. if it did, i would have been dead. >> mason is 12 years old and was shot in the abdomen. the same age as the gunman who injured mason and another boy, -- and killed the teacher before turning the gun on himself. mason says he has a whole new perspective on guns. >> i used to treat guns, not poorly, but a little poorly, because i thought they were a toy. but when i got shot, i learned that they're not just a toy. they're a weapon, and it could

damage somebody very bad. >> . >> the other wounded student is in stable condition. authorities haven't figured out why the young shooter opened fire. mason says he was friends with the boy who was identified late today as jose reyes. new information tonight on a deadly shooting in vallejo. police have made an arrest in the murder of a mother. rob ross tells us the suspect is her teenage son. >> reporter: the shooting happened in this apartment inside this public housing complex on main street yesterday afternoon. >> i just heard something, like some bullets or something, like pow. that's what it sounds like, and i came out. >> reporter: she realized later they were gun shots. police say they found 35-year-old shantanay brown dead of multiple gun shot wounds. when police arrived, security guards had already apprehended the person responsible for the shooting, brown's own son.

>> we've arrested a 17-year-old suspect. our investigation has established that he is the son of the victim, and the actual motive or reason behind this tragedy has taken place is uncertain at this point. >> reporter: investigators aren't releasing the name of the 17-year-old shooting suspect. relatives told police they knew of no tension or animosity between the neighbors and the son. neighbors say brown was quiet and kept to herself and leaves behind a baby under a year old. they also described the 17-year-old as quiet. and although he lived there, he didn't come outside much. >> tragedy. that's a tragedy, i don't care who it was. that is tragic. killing their parent? nothing is that bad. >> reporter: the 17-year-old is booked on one count of homicide and being held in the detention center in fairfield. in vallejo rob ross, ktvu news.

to recall lawmakers who recently passed gun control campaign is targeted four democratic lawmakers. it's similar to a recall in colorado that ended up in those being removed from office. >> myself and others have decided we've had enough. we were no longer going to let others take away our voice or our rights. >> the group says it will soon begin collecting signatureos -- signatureos petitions to qualify. it happened late yesterday at san jose avenue and region street. the back of his car connected with a bicyclist. officers say the bicyclist was injured and the driver kept driving. he was seen in a gray sweater

leaving his court appearance yesterday. his father pleaded not guilty to vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run charges. the younger bernoski is out on bail. the district attorney's office hasn't filed any charges in this case and tell ktvu they still need to talk with another witness. bart's board of directors voted to allow bikes on board trains during peak commute hours. currently, bikes are banned from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. bike advocates voiced their support for the change but the union for bart station agents told bart managers that allowing bikes on trains created safety issues. the changes will take effect on december 1. a brown bear near pasadena caused some tense moments today. there it is after it wandered through a neighborhood and prompted a school lockdown. authorities were prepared to tranquilize the bear and transport it away from the city

but it connected with the heavy brush that connects to the san gabrile mountains. let's talk about the weather now. >> we have some improvements. good news is it's in time for the weekend. cloud cover is sticking around the coast and the bay, at least around the early portion of the afternoon. this was the sunset. a beautiful evening, clear skies, except some high clouds moving in throughout the region throughout the evening hours, and the clouds are part of our forecast tonight and tomorrow morning. as far as the latest right now on the satellite, that's coming up for you right now. you'll notice the key change compared to yesterday. we have some clearing off shores. so the dense fog no longer a big factor in our forecast, but something that could be redeveloping once again a little bit overnight. but right now, we have partly cloudy skies out there, and current temperatures are dropping off into the 50s. santa rosa, 51 degrees, san jose 54, livermore 56, and nappa

checking in at 54 degrees. and we expect the temperatures to be near 70. we had a big temperature drop today. look at the numbers from santa rosa and san jose. from wednesday, look at the temperature drop in santa rosa, only in the 80s. livermore, down 20 degrees from 84 on wednesday to 64 degrees this afternoon. partly to mostly cloudy skies, first thing tomorrow morning, there's a chance we could have a little bit of drizzle showing up coast side and in the 40s most of the bay area to start out your friday morning. there's a weather system offshore responsible for a bit of a cool down today. this system is not really approaching the bay area, but moving parallel it our coast line. tomorrow, some morning clouds and hazy sunshine into the afternoon hours. in fact, our forecast model picks up on that idea tomorrow morning at 6:00, 7:00 and 8:00. we have some overcast out there and skies becoming partly sunny. we have a few leftover patches

letters to parents saying their children are overweight. they're dubbing them as "fat letters". it's important that parents know the risk of childhood obesity, the school says. >> i think it's important. i think parents aren't as involved in their kids' activities. >> it's not going to make them lose weight. >> you think it makes them feel worse? >> yes. >> the state physical report found almost 30% of fifth, 7th and ninth graders are in that high risk category. tolls on the golden gate bridge could be going up again. the fare increase would help the district fill a projected $142 million budget deficit over the next five years. if the increase is approved, it could take effect by next april. the last toll hike was back in 2008. the official royal pictures of prince george's christening are out. the whole family is there with prince george right in the
