andy lopez walked into the room this afternoon. the mother expressed her outrage. [ speaking foreign language ] >> reporter: we want for to be justice, we want the killer to go to jail. he is sitting at home while my son is dead in a freezer. on october 22 he was carrying a bb gun. according to the sheriff's office the deputy opened fire on the teen after he called out for him to put the gun down and he did not respond. >> what did you expect him to do when you called out if not turn around and look at you. >> reporter: the attorney criticized the police department for this press conference when officers showed the similarities between the toy gun and the real thing. >> we have to have this lawsuit so that a independent investigation can go forward.

. the man accused of killing a federal investigator and that testimony may if i want a motive. -- may point to a motive. randy alana was charge for the murder of sandra coke. two of randy alana's nephews testify today and one said randy alana went to jail for three months after sandra coke called his patrol agent because she suspected him of stealing her dog. both testified randy alana is the father of sandra coke's daughter. the hearing is set to continue tomorrow. ktvu uncovered a sheriff's deputy who received termination letters twice but never fired. >> how that is possible and the concerns about the process involving law enforcement officers. >> reporter: despite receiving termination letters twice an

attorney says the allegations aren't true. tonight a look inside the file of a deputy and hear his defense. >> reporter: san francisco sheriff's deputy first received a termination letter after being accused of force within inmates. he appealed, received a one month suspension and was warned. a year and a half letter six inmates accused him of inappropriate sexual behavior. she says he went against orders not to contact her, obtained her address while she was in custody. went to her residents to have sex with her and asked her to assist in potching cocaine. he -- purchasing cocaine. he placed calls to her cell phone. he was issued a termination letter but again only suspended for six months with help from

fire at los angeles international airport last friday morning remains sedated and under 24 hour guard. 23-year-old paul ciancia was shot 4 times after police say he used a rifle to kill a tsa screener and wound three other people. paul ciancia wrote a note saying he was going to target tsa workers. he believed they had violated his rights. today paul ciancia's issued a statement offering condolences. this comes as the union that represents tsa screeners is calling for more armed officers at check points because of that shooting and that would include a new class of tsa employees trained as law enforcement officers. last night they confiscated 29 guns at u.s. airports. a professor has been studying the increase in gun seizures.

set to vote on gun regulations there. it establishes distance restricts between gun stores and parks and schools. stores would be required to install surveillance cameras. house republicans released documents about the roll out of the healthcare law. they said it wasn't just the website giving people trouble. problems with paper applications as well. according to the republicans on the over sight committee the forms still had to rely on the broken website. he said people applying on paper still saved time by not having to wait. kaiser is moving quickly in response to a protest from senior whose think parts of the hospital have closed.

university of california at berkeley that is unnerving because police say the number of students getting robbed is on the rise. >> reporter: students say the spike in robberies got their attention. >> it is scary. but you got to be careful. >> reporter: three weeks ago ktvu told you police were increasing patrols because of robberies. since then they targeted three more students. >> got our attention. to see that many in a short period of time. >> reporter: two robberies happened thursday night. a femme student was robbed of her -- a female student was robbed of her cell phone and a student's back pack was stolen and it doesn't appear the robberies are connected. >> descriptions are all over the place. one loan black male, one white.

the california highway patrol says a driver who killed a bicyclist said he fell asleep at the wheel. the man was driving on highway 1 saturday morning. he says he woke up after swerving into traffic to avoid hitting a car. he drove up and down an embankment before running into

judge in san diego could set a court date for a u.s. navy bribery case. there have been three arrests. they worked together to steer ships to chosen ports where the navy was over charged for services. prosecutors say it compromised national security. the case set off high level meetings and the possibility of more arrests. the supreme court will let a settlement stand in a lawsuit against facebook. the court rejected a case involving a privacy lawsuit connected with facebook's beacon service. money was used to pay attorneys. plaintiffs say nothing of value was going to users. the court said it might take up another case in the future to clarify the law. private security in one

them. they will sell them. >> reporter: he says this has been a dumping ground for decades. you can see oil still leaking from this engine.  toxics and heavy metals get into the food chain, consumed by people who eat crab and fish. officials say people will remove i.d. numbers. they can be hard to track but the project hired experts that will try to track down the owner so they can recover some of the $3.5 million they are spending on the clean up. john fowler, ktvu channel 2 news. the dismantling of the old eastern span of the bay bridge will begin this week. crews have been preparing since the new span opened on labor day weekend. this is video from news chopper 2 taken an hour and a half ago. you can see a crane and trucks on the bridge moving into position to start work.
