we continue to follow breaking news in the south bay where the search is on for a two week old baby. what we have learned about where he and his father might be headed. the last known area that it looks like they were in. we are live in san francisco where police are investigating an early morning shooting. we'll give you an update on what we know so far as well as an update on the victims condition. one bay area university making drastic budget cuts. what will now happen on campus next spring.

56 in the financial district. eureka valley 54. even cold valley which can get cold is not bad at 50-degrees. the forecast high would not surprise me to see low 70s today. there will be higher clouds but upper 60s to low 70s. 40s for many or 50s. its not as cold due to that higher cloud deck. although it is mostly clear. san jose looking for a little warmup today. 75. each day we are bumping up a couple degrees. these are all a little warmer on the higher temps. a mix of sun and clouds and easterly breeze still holding court from san francisco down to santa cruz. it will be a mild to warm day for some. here's sal. steve, good morning. we are looking at traffic that is getting busier around the bay. i want to show you contra costa county because highway 4 is busy as it normally is from antioch to the better part of

pittsburgh and then it gets better. and on 80 westbound you can see the traffic. i'm going to move it over here. 80 westbound there is a new crash reported west 80 at pinole valley road. in hercules area. traffic is a little slow. its still not quite up to full speed or up to full strength for that morning commute. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza. westbound. you can see there is a ten minute delay at the toll plaza here. no problems on the bridge. and if you are driving in san jose, so far its good out of downtown. now let's go back to the desk. 6:03. we are starting with a statewide amber alert to find a newborn baby taken from an apartment in sunnyvale. claudine wong is in the south bay right now where police say the suspect is the baby's father. claudine. >> good morning, dave. we are getting a better picture at this hour of time frame of where the father was and where he may have been going. he is apparently or was about

six hours ago in the san diego area. we will get to that in a moment. i want to show you where we are. we are in sunnyvale on helen avenue. this is where the suspect lived with the baby's mother and the newborn baby henry. he was last heard from at 4:00 yesterday. we just found out his cell phone was pinged in the san diego area about midnight. its unclear what his connection is to that area. or where he might be headed from there. what we do know is police believe his two week old son is in danger. let me show you pictures of the father. we got these photos from his facebook pain this morning-- facebook page this morning. his facebook wall actually filled with pictures of baby henry over the last two weeks. it appears to be the facebook page of an excited new father. but police say masut has in the past threatened to hurt himself & the baby and they are very concerned this morning.

all we know right now is that they got into some kind of fight yesterday afternoon. he got mad, took the baby and left and told her he was leaving the state. and then the last they heard from him was 4:00. police were notified at 10:30 and again we have this ping on his cell phone at about midnight in the san diego area. gooler was last seen in am tan 2004 gmc envoy. that car has a large american eagle on the window. amber alert signs were activated in the bay area and again they were activated all over the state. that is where we get the sightings and the ping down in the san diego area. the last contact was about six hours ago. its unclear where he might be headed. we will continue to stay on top of this and give you more

information. live in sunnyvale claudine wong ktvu channel 2 news. we're also following breaking news out of san francisco. police on the scene of an early morning shooting in the south of market area. ktvu brian flores just arrived on the scene. and tells us what he has been able to find out so far. >> reporter: good morning. still a developing scene here in san francisco. currently we're standing on third and brandon. right up the street there where you see that car is rich street. from what we understand there was an early morning shooting this morning. one victim is in the hospital. we go to video from just moments ago from what we understand from san francisco police this happened roughly around 4:53 this morning. that is when they got the first call. they say a victim was shot several times. presumably in the car that was also damaged as well. a lot of front end damage to to the car. the latest on the condition of the victim is that he or she has life threatening injuries. now we don't know -- we don't

have any information at this point. any potential suspects. but we have heard though that they may be looking for a four- door silver sedan. possibly a rental car that may have left the scene. so again early morning shooting. victim shot several times out here. police continue to investigate. there have been several detectives and sergeants out here processing the scene. and from what we can gather they will be here for quite some time. we are on third street and brandon where as you can see traffic here will be closed off if you are on brandon approaching third. keep that in mind if you will be effected through that. we will work on getting you more details. live in san francisco brian flores ktvu channel 2 news. happening now investigators searching for the cause of an early morning fire in san francisco's richmond district. firefighters say that fire started in a bookstore on clement street just before 4:00 this morning. before spreading to a digital

archiving business. 11 people living in nearby apartments were forced to evacwait. >> what we have here is a bookstore that supports this internet archive building. the fire was well advanced and free burning when we arrived. >> reporter: tara moriarty has been at that fire scene since 4:30 this morning. she'll have a live update coming up. the chp investigating the mysterious death of a woman. her body was found early this morning on 680. several cars hit the woman while she was lying on the freeway near the highway 24 interchange shortly after midnight. now they say moments earlier the woman was spotted on the bart tracks above the freeway. investigators say its possible she jumped from the bart tracks down on to the freeway to take her own life. time is 6:08. happening today. >> an emergency neating is being held -- meeting is being held at san jose state university to discuss why millions of dollars in cuts

needs to be made. janine de la vega is joining us from san jose. >> reporter: the newly handed cuts are going to effect students who are registering  for the spring semester. now faculty members are scrambling trying to figure out what classes to keep or cut. and really how to trim. the reason for all of this is because over the past two years san jose state faced a $23 million budget deficit. thousands of cuts were taken in the last academic year and the remaining $16 million has to be taken. this will result in class actions being reduced. department chairs have been asked to combine class sections and increase class sizes in an attempt to accommodate as many students as last year. these are not one-time cuts. they will be permanent. and some students we spoke to this morning hadn't heard about the news yet and concerned how this will impact them. >> i feel like if there are

more cuttings then i'm not going to get the classes i need to graduate. so that is definitely a concern for me. >> reporter: some part time faculty will lose part of their usual class assignments and some part and full-time faculty may be asked to teach classes outside their areas of expertise. professors have a lot of questions including what happened to the money for education that was supposed to come from proposition 30 and how students will get the classes they need. the emergency meetings for department chairs and school directors will be held at 10:30 this morning on campus at sweeney hall. the media is invited to attend that. we are also being told that the president of the university is invited to attend. i reached out to him this morning through e-mail. i have not heard a response back. but as soon as we do, we will bring that to you. reporting live from san jose janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. 6:10 is the time right now. many people without high school diplomas are rushing to take

the ged before the test changes this january. it is the first update to the test in more than ten years. test takers will be required to use am computer instead of a pencil and paper this time around. it will cost more to take the test. some testing centers are expanding their hours due to the increased demand. morgan hill a long-time day care worker arrested for being drunk on the job is expected in court today. police went to the pa child development center on monday morning after a parent says a day care worker was slurring her words and fumbling with the keys to the building. 58-year-old anna marie lopez was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment. a state investigation has begun. lopez has worked at that center for ten years. the city of oakland reportedly is being forced to hire different company to finish a controversial surveillance center. that center despite the opposition from privacy

advocates would give the police special security tools including access to all of the street cameras. however, the oakland tribune is reporting the city will cancel a deal with science applications international corporation because of the city ordnance that blocks it from doing business with companies that are involved in making nuclear weapons. we have all the results from yesterday's election here in the bay area. you can see the final counts at the bottom of your screen throughout the morning. one of the most hotly contested issues was proposition c. the gun control measure in sunnyvale. it passed 66-34%. now if a weapon is lost or stolen, owners have 48 hours to report it to police. also ammunition clips can not hold more than ten rounds but the nra is vowing to sue over that one. it also appears measure f a bond to rebuild marine general hospital will narrowly pass. although 20,000 bam lots still need to be counted.

welcome back. 6:16. california lawmakers will get their first pay raise in six careers. the independent panel that determines sal rays for state lawmakers had trimmed the paychecks as california was struggling in the recession but the economy is getting better along with the tax revenue growing.

so the panel says state lawmakers will get a 5% pay raise starting next month. lawmakers now make $9:thousand a $95,000 a year. kathleen sebelius is back on capitol hill to continue answering questions. this time she will appear before the senate finance committee. last week she testified to a house committee and apologized for the roll out of the healthcare.gov website. also president obama is traveling to texas today to encourage people to sign up on the federal health insurance marketplace. texas is the highest rate of uninsured americans in the country. time is 6:17. the oldest woman to run the new york city marathon has died. and she is from the bay area. 86-year-old joy johnson of san jose stumbled during the 20th mile of the race. she hit her head on the

pavement. now they treated her at the first aid tent. told her to go to the hospital to get checked out. instead she kept running. determined she was going to finish that marathon. the next day she laid down she took a nap at her hotel and never woke up. the exact cause of her death is still not known. 911 calls from last week are now giving us new information about a firey car crash inside the caldecott tunnel. it filled the tunnel with smoke and eight people needed hospital treatment. dozens abandoned their cars. >> he is in the right lane and a lot of traffic backing up. he didn't have his hazard lights on either. i'm afraid the car might be engulfed in flames. >> friday's tunnel fire brought back vivid memories of a deadly 1982 crash where a tanker truck caught fire. seven people died in that incident. prompting new restrictions on tankers carrying hazardous

materials in the tunnel. time is 6:18. we have an update to a story about wild pigs that have been tearing up lawns and a golf course in the valley section of san jose. last night the city council voted 8-3. they will allow people to shoot the pigs if they have the proper state hunting permits. the rule takes effect immediately. it will run through february 5th. it also allows employees to shoot birds that are threatening to hit planes. right now its 6:19. i want to go back over to sal to check in on the commute. as we say right about now it starts getting busier out there. >> that is right pam and dave. this is the time when things start to change. it goes from a light commute to a busy one and this next half hour or so. let's take a look at the live pictures that we have on highway 24 westbound in lafayette. still looks pretty good as you go around the corner to orinda it begins to slow a little bit. but there are no major

obstructions on the way to the tunnel. certainly traffic times are getting a little slower there. bay bridge i will give you a time here. that is a 10-15 minute delay if you're at the very end of the line. no problems once you make it on to the bridge. you're looking at heavy conditions on highway 4 here. driving over to pittsburgh. 680 from concord to walnut creek still looks good and the crash in pinole on 80 westbound has not caused a major delay. now let's go to steve. thank you, sal. a very good morning. a few high clouds out there. speaking of if you live there you know you haven't had much rain. i don't care where you live you know we haven't had much rain. since january 1st to november 5th. that is a record. because the driest was 1976. remember this is the calendar

year. so far record setting territory the driest calendar year ever. that is just terrible. terrible. maybe next week we will get rain in here. a lot of high clouds streaming up and patchy low clouds. there is still a come pent of -- component of an easterly breeze. san francisco a lot of mild temps. financial district 56. south of market is 56. eureka valley is 54. coal valley which can get very, very cold is not. they are 50 degrees. this is an easterly breeze holding some of these temps up. some of the areas even out 40s for some. but they are much, much warmer than they have been. just due to the mere fact we are getting the higher clouds. it will mainly track across parts of the north bay. if you have travel plans in the midwest chicago is 55. south wind at 25 miles an hour. so somebody is getting some rain. its just not us. and they are getting rain up in the pacific northwest.

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. time is 6:25. twitter is scheduled to hold its initial public offering tomorrow. they are expected to set the price tonight. right now the price range is is between $23-25 a share. that is up $5 from its original price range. the actual ipo price will be even higher because of the popularity. twitter though has not turned a profit since it started. time is 6:26. a school is getting special police attention because of their sweatshirts. the sweatshirt shows the roman numeral 14. the police say that symbol is associated with a hispanic gang with strong ties in northern california. a police officer with the counties gang unit says if the student wears the sweatshirt in the wrong neighborhood they could easily get into trouble. >> they are going to wear a symbol that the gang members are associated with they better be aware of that.

>> the school district is now sending a letter home to parents explaning the issue. they are also offering a refund to anyone who wants it. we now know how next years amgen tour of california will roll through the bay area. the cycling race will start in the greater sacramento area and head west to a tough ride up a mountain. stage two is in folsom. stage three goes from san jose to the summit of mt. diablo. that will be on may president. stage four runs from monterey. and the race continues south. ending in thousand oaks on may 18th. 6:27 is the time right now. witnesses call it a shocking attack. more details on the arrest of a 16-year-old boy accused of setting fire to a teenage passenger on an ac transit bus. i just got off the phone with the chp i have new information to you about where the suspect is believed to have taken his two week old child

today but we will keep watching for you. we will smile and say good morning to you. middle of the week, wednesday, november 6th i'm dave clark. >> good morning, i'm pam cook. let's check in with steve paulson for a look at the weather. >> we do have mostly clear skies. i think that might keep some of the lows up. there have been a lot more 40s and not as cold as 24 hours ago with a lot of low to mid 50s. especially if you get closer to the coast some areas are very mild. mostly sunny. higher clouds. but high pressure says i kind of like it right here. that gives us the easterly breeze. which means a very mild day for some. san jose you stay bumping up the temp. you go 75 today for a low of 48. there are cooler readings. mid 70s for many today. expect for the higher clouds. really that is about it. easterly breeze holding.

which is an offshore direction. that is the direction the wind is coming from. that translates into a lot of 70s. here's sal. steve, good morning. we are looking at the commute here and its looking pretty good if you are driving on the bay bridge approach. when it comes to accidents but there is a delay. this is more like a 25 minute delay now coming up on the bridge. and getting up on 880 will not help you that much. but when i do say looking good we don't have any stalled vehicles or crashes reported on the bridge. so there is that. also looking at the commute here in san francisco now that does look good. there are not a lot of crowding just yet approaching the 80 split. we had an earlier crash in hercules on 80 westbound. still a little bit of slow traffic gets on the shoulder. but the traffic is a little bit slow. bart, cal train, muni doing well right now. let's go back to the desk. we are still following breaking news from the south bay where a newborn baby is missing this morning and a

statewide amber alert has been issued. claudine wong is in sunnyvale with the latest information from the chp. good morning, claudine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. yes, this is a statewide search. it stretches from here where we are in sunnyvale all the way down to san diego and beyond. i want to show you where we are. this is the home of the suspect and that little baby and the baby's mother. what we just found out from the chp in san diego is a better idea of a time frame. the suspect was last seen here at 4:00. at 11:55 last night they pinged the cell phone in this san diego area. so that is an eight or nine hour drive. then five minutes away from that ping, there was a spotting of the suspect's vehicle. and at 3:27 this morning about ten miles awhat from that point

was a -- away from that point was a second sighting. these are from his facebook page. we got them this morning. and his facebook page shows a lot of pictures with him and his two week old son henry. police do believe the two are together and have been since yesterday afternoon when the baby's mother and him got into some sort of fight. he said he is leaving the state with the building. in the past he threatened to hurt himself and the baby. let's give you a description of the vehicle that has been spotted this morning. its a tan 2004 gmc envoy. the license plate we do have that for you as well. 6hil892. and it apparently has a large american eagle on the rear window. that should make it easier to spot. it has been spotted this morning. not close to here but down in the san diego area. again all those spottings the ping at the cell phone and the two other sightings are within

a 10-15-mile radius. it has been three hours since that last sighting. its unclear if they have taken off and left that area. live in sunnyvale claudine wong ktvu channel 2 news. we're also following breaking news out of san francisco this morning where police are on the scene of an early morning shooting in the south of market area. brian flores is joining us with new information about that gunfire. brian. >> reporter: we have two crime scenes. the first is off of third and brian which is about a block away. we are actually on third and brandon and just a block from here is rick right street where the car ended up. you can see a lot of front end damage to the car. that car was shot several times according to san francisco police. the new details as we looked at the i have owe from moments ago police tell us i just got done speaking to a sergeant there were four people inside that car. they were headed near third and brian trying to reach the bay bridge when somehow this

shooting happened. someone started the shooting. not clear how it happened. in a frantic effort to try to find help, that car ended up trying to look for a hospital. ended up near third and brandon. the victims were able to flag down a fire rig that was reporting to another call. 3:the car crashed into either another car or some other object which explains the front end damage. from what we understand six shots were fired at the car. police were able to find five bullet casings. that victim was sitting in the right rear passenger side of the car. he was taken to san francisco general hospital with life threatening injuries. now as we take you back out here live. two crime scenes this morning. you are taking a look at third and bryant where police are also investigating that scene. looking for bullet casings. again they found at least five this morning. but from what we understand at least six shots were fired at the car. the victims were also out of county according to san francisco police. one of the victims was from

fairfield. another from suisun city. live in san francisco brian flores ktvu channel 2 news. police say they are still trying to understand the motive of a 16-year-old boy who is accused of setting a young man on fire as he slept on a bus in oakland. officers arrested the student yesterday after revealing surveillance video from an ac transit bus. the 18-year-old victim luke who goes by sasha is in stable condition at st. francis memorial hospital in san francisco. another passenger on the same bus route in oakland monday night say they were disturbed by what they saw. >> we saw the guy that was laying out there burnt. >> was he in bad shape? >> yeah he was in bad shape. his legs were all burned up red and black. >> the victim was wearing either a kilt or some kind of

skirt. friends say that they set up a web page to raise money for his medical bills. this morning it has already made $6600. time is 6:37. happening today faculty members at san jose state are reacting to news that budget cuts deep budget cuts will be made in their programs. an emergency meeting we're told will be hold later this morning. ktvu janine de la vega is joining us live from san jose state. what are students saying? >> reporter: a lot of the students i'm running into say they haven't heard this news and they are worried. its already tough to get the classes they want and they think the cuts will make it even more difficult. over the past couple of years san jose state faced a $32 million budget deficit. we were originally told by some faculty members that they said that $16 million needed to be cut. i just got off the phone with the university spokeswoman who say said that its more around the $4 million range that needs to be cut for the spring

semester. now department chairs have been asked to combine class sections and increase class sizes in an attempt to accommodate as many students as last year. some students are worrying if they will have to push back graduation and they are frustrated. >> it sounds crazy. we are building new buildings and then we have budget cuts. its disheartening. we are paying good money for our education and every year it gets worse. >> reporter: its unknown how many classes will be effected. the dean told staff if an e- mail that some part time faculty will lose part of their usual class assignments and in rare cases some full time faculty may be asked to teach classes outside of their area of expertise. professors have lots of questions. how can program maintains a accreditation if they go over the maximum student-faculty ratio. all the questions will be

answered at a department meeting at 10:30 this morning. i plan on talking further with the university spokeswoman to clarify these numbers and wonder what is the difference. why are faculty members thinking more millions of dollars will be cut when the number is really around $4 million that i'm being told. again, still it will have an impact on students and staff. 6:40 now. here is more bay area election results from yesterday. by a 62-38% vote voters in san francisco rejected proposition b. that waterfront condo project. a companion measure proposition c which would wave am height limit it also lost. prop b supporters out spent opponents 2-1. it would allow two condo buildings to replace a parking lot and tennis court. while supporters say the project would have created jobs in a public park, critics say

the condo project exceeded the height limit in that area. >> antioch voters approved measure c the sales tax hike to hire more police officers. the vote was 68-32%. so beginning next april the city sales tax goes up half a cent to nine cents per dollar. you can find all of the election results for your community at our channel 2 website ktvu.com. we're also have the final number. you can look at bottom of your screen. they will be running throughout this newscast and also on mornings on 2. the city of richmond is moving aheads with a controversial food labeling plan. the city attorney was asked to write a law requiring genetically modified food labels. the law would apply to all food retailers no matter how big or how small and where they get their products. a similar statewide proposal was narrowly defeated by voters last year. nostalgic 49ers fans you can buy a piece of san

the two ladder trucks are. they is where they scan books and films to digitize them. th fire broke out at 3:30 this morning. 16 firefighter rest responded to this two alarm. that is because crews say it was roaring with flames shooting three stories high and 11 people who live next door above am chinese restaurant were evacuated. luckily no one was hurt. >> everybody is out quick. units on scene had an aggressive attack through the front door. we have units through the apartment building quickly to stop it from getting to the second floor. and the fire never did make it into the internet archive building. >> we spoke to the digital librarian he said some camera and lighting equipment was destroyed. >> we're going to have to rebuild the scanning center. we operate 30 scanning centers in eight centuries. so we are really sorry to lose this scanning center but it is only one out of many. >> reporter: the battalion

abercrombie and fitch and whole foods some of the companies reporting. right now i want to take a look at tesla's stock. because it has been down much of the morning. because of the disappointing report the palo alto based car maker lost $38 million during the third quarter. that was more than analysts had expected. tesla ceo elains says demand for the model s sedan is up. right now tesla stock down $18 a share or more than 10%. toyota reports a dramatic surge in its quarterly profits and now boosting its earnings outlook for the fiscal year. the world's biggest car maker says growing sales in the u.s. and a weaker yen helped it record a $4.4 billion profit. now toyota is forecasting an annual profit of narrowly $17 billion. elderly woman in oakland was rescued from a two alarm
