have hit some concrete debris as a result of the crash. the newschopper2 is about to show us it as he pans left. you can see the original crash northbound on 101. we're coming up to it here. it was an injury crash. it took out some of the guardrail, yore turned vehicle -- overturned vehicle. meanwhile, some of the debris from the guardrail came up into the other lanes and then there was a motorcycle crash going the other way. got that. that means two directions of 101 are going to be very, very slow because of this crash. i want to show it to you on a map just so you know what i'm talking about here. if the guys in the control room can do it for me. 101 southbound is backed out of belmont. northbound 101 is backed out of the palo alto area. so as we push up here, you can see 280 is great. the red sensors are showing you a green light commute all the way down. i would do that instead of using 101 at this point. let's move along to live

pictures. bay bridge about a 15, 20- minute delay before you make it on the brick. more 20, 25 minutes now. it's gotten worse. now at 7:03. let's go back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. breaking news from san francisco. police are investigating an early-morning shooting in the city in the market area. it happened near bryant and 3rd street and the investigation is still causing traffic problems. brian flores joins us live from the shooting scene with new information about the shooting victim and the search for suspects. good morning, brian. >> reporter: good morning, tori. police are processing two scenes at this point. the first one where the shooting took place on 3rd and bryant. we're on 3rd and brannan. that's the victim's car still being processed by police. police say one victim was shot several times and is currently in the hospital with life- threatening injuries. now, from what we understand i spoke with an sfpd sergeant

minutes ago, he says they still don't know what started the shooting and don't have a suspect description or a definitive suspect description. the sergeant tells me four people were inside the car. they were approaching 3rd and bryant toward the bay bridge apparently leaving the city when something prompted that shooting. now, again, still unclear what started it but police say their shot spotter system tracked six shots. police say they've been up able to recover five bullet casings but immediately after the shooting, the driver of the car was frantically trying to flag down help. ended near 3rd and brannan, where it crashed into something which explains the front-end damage. still unclear what the driver crashed into this morning. one victim this morning. it's a male. he was taken to san francisco general hospital with life- threatening injuries. the other aspect, the traffic, streets are blocked off in regard to this investigation. again, through portions of 3rd

and bryant are blocked off. we're on 3rd and brannan. that goes all the way out to 4th street. that's blocked off as well. where i'm standing, traffic is starting to pick up. we'll keep track of the shooting and traffic here on the morning news. brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. now to the developing news, a 2-week-old baby boy is missing, reportedly abducted by his father in sunnyvale. the police search is shifting from sunnyvale to san diego. ktvu's claudine wong is live in the south bay now to tell us more about this statewide amber alert. >> reporter: well, good morning, drav. i just got off -- dave. i just got off the phone with the chp. i have new information about another possible sighting. a woman called in to say she saw this man walking around with this baby on a san diego street. i also want to tell you, though, that we've checked in the apartment that is here in sunnyvale here on helen avenue

checking in with the mother. we tried multiple times to talk to her but to no avail. this is the apartment complex where all of this started. this is where the mother and father got into some kind of fight yesterday before police say he took off with the baby. a lot of information coming in about possible sightings. we want to put them on the screen. chp telling me the phone that belongs to the suspect was pinged at 11:55 last night in the kearney mesa area and then at 2:08 in the hillcrest area of san diego, six miles away from that, another sighting from someone calling in saying they spotted the vehicle. and then at 3:27 in national city, which is also a suburb of san diego, about south of the city, another ten miles away, another sighting of the suspect vehicle. now, we don't know why he would be in that area. but police are very concerned because they say he has in the past threatened to harm himself and the baby. now, his facebook page is filled with pictures of him, the baby and the baby's mother

over the last two weeks since baby henry's birth. the chp also told me they just got another call from a woman who thinks she might have seen the two together. >> we've had three additional possible citizen sightings where they called into the dispatch center, via 911 and reported the first one at dusk last night where they reported a tall male with a small baby who matched the description. >> reporter: obviously, san diego quite a drive from sunnyvale. so it's still unclear of the time frame and if that could possibly be this suspect or not. that's something that they are still gonna have to work out. but the search does continue for mesut guler and his son, henry. the vehicle, a couple of people have sited. it's described as a gmc you an vary. it's tan in color -- -- it's

tan in color. it's an envoy. the license plate, ghil892. it has a large eagle on it. now, at this point, we haven't had any more sightings since 3:30 this morning. it's unclear where he might be headed. the chp says they are in contact. obviously it's a multiagency search. he's been spotted on streets, pinged on freeways. they are not sure if he's trying to head out of the country. that's something they are continuing to watch. live in sunnyvale, claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. new this morning, the chp is investigating the mysterious overnight death of a bomb in walnut creek -- woman in walnut creek. police say several cars hit the woman while lying on the 680 freeway near highway 24 shortly after midnight. the highway is below the walnut creek b.a.r.t. station. the chp says the woman was

spotted on the b.a.r.t. tracks pov the freeway moments earlier. -- above the freeway moments earlier. >> it's unknown how the female subject got on top of the b.a.r.t. tracks. >> the chp is downplaying earlier reports that the woman fell to the freeway after being hit by a b.a.r.t. train. investigators say it's now possible she jumped from the b.a.r.t. tracks to take her own life. all southbound lanes of 680 were closed for two hours but reopened at 3:00 this morning. the city of oakland reportedly is being forced to hire a different company now to finish work on a controversial surveillance center. that center would give police special tools including access to all street cameras. however, the oakland tribune is reporting the city will cancel the deal with science applications national corporation because of a city ordinance that blocks it from doing business with companies that are involved in making in

nuclear weapons. happening today -- the biggest child molestation civil trial in years is about to start. last summer, a jury found 27- year-old keith woodhouse guilty of 30 felony counts of child molestation. today, a civil trial is due to begin. the lawsuit was filed by the parents of a girl who claims she was molested by woodhouse while attending a summer program at jose's church of the hill in 2007. woodhouse worked there at the time. the same lawsuit is targeting child development incorporated, which is the biggest daycare provider in california. 7:11. we have all of the results from yesterday's election in the bay area. you can see the final counts at the bottom of the screen. one of the most hotly contested issues was proposition c, the gun control measure in sunnyvale. it passed, 66% to 34%. if a weapon is lost or stolen, owners have 48 hours to report

welcome back. 7:14. 911 calls from last week now giving us some new information about a fiery car crash inside the caldecott tunnel. friday's fire filled the tunnel with smoke. eight people needed hospital treatment. dozens of drivers just abandoned their cars. they walked out of the tunnel. >> not in a safe place. he's in a right lane. a lot of traffic backing up. he doesn't have his hazard lights on. >> friday's tunnel fire brought back vivid memories of a 1992 crash where a tanker caught fire, seven people were killed

prompting new restrictions on the tunnel. the b.a.r.t. strike cost hundreds of thousands of bay area commuters time and money. the b.a.r.t. strike cost muni about $700,000 during that four-day walk out. muni ridership jumped more than 20% as it expanded service to help the stranded b.a.r.t. passengers. muni had huge overtime bills with parking control officers. ing kathleen sebelius is back on -- kathleen see bell just is back on capitol hill -- sebelius is back on capitol hill. she's answering lawmakers' questions about the new healthcare law. last week, he she testified to a house committee and apologized for the problematic rollout of the healthcare.gov website. california lawmakers are getting their first pay raise in six years. the independent panel that

[laughter] good morning, everybody. the commute is getting a little bit better. right now, traffic is -- is moving along pretty well on northbound 101 after that crash has been removed. we've seen a big improvement. the problem, southbound 101 there is a motorcyclist that hit debris from the earlier northbound crash. that commute, which is the commute direction really is very slow. as newschopper2 tilts up, you see southbound 101 is continuing to back up into belmont and into san mateo. so southbound 101, i don't recommend it as you can see, there it is, that big curve near the san carlos airport. i would use 280 instead. that's a decent alternate. you might go out of your way but you will be much happier. no want likes to sit in stop- and-go traffic. no one except that guy. there's the one guy that might like it. westbound bay bridge, about a 25, 30-minute delay before you make it on the span. contra costa county, kind of

way to 242. 80 westbound slow from hercules all the way to el cerrito. let's go back to the desk. new this morning, from san francisco firefighters investigating a fire in the richmond district. there it is. it started about 4:00 a.m. on clement street. ktvu's tara moriarty is here to show us the damage that caused -- well, a digital archiving business was damaged, right? >> reporter: well, firefighters were able to keep the flames from gets to the main library of the internet archive on stinson. but they were not able to save the center located at the back of the library where those heavy char marks are visible. the fire broke out at 3:30 this morning on clement street near 12th. 60 firefighters responded to this two-alarm fire. that's because crews say it was roaring with flames shooting three stories high. 11 people who live next door

above a chinese restaurant were evacuated safely. >> it's a bit of a scare. got a phone call there was a fire in the scanning center which is the side building off the main library. and the fire trucks had already arrived. they are on it really, really fast but we did lose some cameras and some lighting equipment. >> reporter: the scanning center is where librarians scan books and films to digitize them. we were able to get inside the internet archives to show you what was saved. the building was the old christian science church built in 1920. the battalion chief says it's lucky the fire didn't get inside since it is such a wide open space and would have burned quickly. clement street between park presidio and 12th is shut down. it looks like it will be opening up pretty soon. we want to mention the evacuees were able to get back inside their flats about 20 minutes ago. live from san francisco, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news.

7:34. police are trying to figure out why a 16-year-old boy set fire allegedly to another passenger on an a.c. transit bus. the oakland high school student was arrested yesterday after police checked surveillance video from the bus. police say the 18-year-old victim luke fleishman who goes by the name of sasha is listed in stable condition. this incident happened on the 57 bus route monday night. >> everybody started yelling, fire, fire. i turned around and this guy, he was like jumping up and down. >> other witnesses say the victim appeared to be wearing a skirt or a kilt. police say it appears the victim and the suspect don't know each other. friends of fleishman set up a web page to raise money for his medical bills. this morning we're told he raised more than $6600. happening today, faculty members are in crisis mode now that they've received news,

deep cuts must be made within the programs. an emergency meeting is being held this morning. ktvu's janine de la vega is live on campus where you just talked to a university spokesperson about this this morning. what is she saying? >> reporter: she's saying this shouldn't come as a surprise that cuts need to be made. she knows there is a lot of panic going on among faculty. that's because there's been misinformation being spread among them and there's some confusion over how many millions of dollars needs to be cut. now, here's the breakdown -- over the past two years, san jose state faced a $32 million budget deficit. significant cuts have been made over the last year. now for the spring semester, the university is saying that $4 million more needs to be cut. the dean told the faculty in an e-mail that this will result in class sections being reduced. and in an attempt to accommodate as many students as

last year. students are not happy about the news and are concerned about how difficult it will be to get into classes. >> of course, i'm worried. i pay for my education myself. it's already hard enough as it is. yeah. >> reporter: a university spokesperson says classes won't be cut entirely but sections will. if a class is offered every day of the week, it might only be offered on tuesday and thursdays. they will target classes with low enrollment. the dean told faculty that some part-time faculty will lose part of their class assignments and in rare cases, some may be asked to teach classes outside of their areas of expertise. this will all be discussed at an emergency meeting at 10:30 this morning. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel

2 news. >> thank you. 7:37. many people without high school diplomas are now rushing to take the g.e.d. before the test changes this january. it's the first update to the test in more than a decade. test takers will be required to use a computer instead of a pencil and paper. it will cost more to take the test. some testing centers are extending their hours due to the increased demand. new details this morning about a man who was shot and killed yesterday by fairfield police. police say 24-year-old deante trailer was on patrol for robbery and had a long criminal history. the incident started when police responded to a home and found a woman stabbed 30 times. police say they chased trailer and opened fire when he came at them with a knife. the woman who was stabbed is still in critical condition. people protesting the deadly shooting the 13-year-old andy lopez say they will

conduct their own investigation into what happened. lopez was shot and killed two weeks ago by a sonoma county sheriff's deputy while he was holding a replica assault rifle. protesters say they are gonna hold an event this weekend to gather witnesses' statements and evidence. that will be presented to the district attorney. here are more election results from tuesday. voters in san francisco overwhelmingly rejected proposition b which would have allowed luxury condos at the foot of washington street. 62% oppose the measure. and despite the support from ed lee and gavin newsom, the height limit went down to defeat by a 2-1 margin. prop b would have allowed two condos buildings to replace a public parking lot and tennis courts at a fitness club. supporters say the project would have provided jobs and a public park. but opponents say the project exceeded the height limit zoned

the nasdaq has turned around. it's down 4. s&p up 5. 7:43. twitter's initial public offering is scheduled for tomorrow and the san francisco- based message service is expected to set its price tonight. right now, the price range is between $23 and $25. that's up $5 from its original price range and some analysts believe twitter shares will hit 45 to 46 in the first day of trading. that would make twitter worth $25 billion even though it's never turned a profit. samsung is promising shareholders a better return on their investments. the electronics giant made that announcement during a rare meeting with analysts. executives tried to soothe fears about smartphone market saturation. samsung has posted record profits in each of the last seven quarters. shareholders have accused the company of hoarding cash. mcdonald's, not comments on

scenes that police were processing this morning. you are looking a like at the victim's car about to be towed. the tow truck came in from the shooting that happened roughly before 5:00 this morning. what you don't see is the glass being blown out on the left side of the car. that's where police say it was shot several times. i spoke with an sfpd sergeant about an hour ago. he says they still don't know what started the shooting and they don't have a suspect description or it car suspect. we know that the police got this call around 4:53. the sergeant says four people were inside the car. they were approaching third and bryant toward the bay bridge apparently leaving the city when something prompted that shooting. still unclear what started it. but police say the shot spotter system tracked six shots from the area. at this point, police have been able to recover five bullet casings. immediately after the shooting, the driver of the car was

frantically trying to flag down help and looking for a possible. it ended up at third and brannan, the second scene of the shooting, it crashed into something. we don't know what it crashed into. there is one shooting victim. it's a male. he was shot several times according to police and is currently in san francisco general hospital with life- threatening injuries. it's caused a little bit of a traffic nightmare this morning here off 3rd and brannan. all the way down to 4th. it remains closed. the scene off 3rd and bryant, about a block from here is open. that's good news for traffic concerns. but police say they will be here at least for the next few minutes. the tow trucks will be taking the car out in the next few minutes. we'll keep you updated for any further developments. we're live in san francisco, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. 8:04. we have an update on developing news from sunnyvale of a 2-week- old baby that may have been abducted by his father. within the past hour, police officers were scene going into

henry. sometime yesterday, the couple got into a fight and guler took off with the baby, telling the mother he was leaving the state. police say he has threatened to hurt himself and the baby in the past. that has them very concerned. there have been sightings and clues. chp in san diego telling me the suspect's phone was pinged at 11:50 last night in the kerney mesa area of san diego. then at 2:08 this morning in the hillcrest area of the city of san diego, about six miles away, there was a sighting of the vehicle with a distinctionive marking on the back. there was another sighting in national city, a suburb south of san diego, about ten miles from the other location. apparently one other person called in to say that she saw the suspect walking around with the infant at dusk last night on san diego city streets. now, we don't know at this point, why guler would be in the san diego area. again, we only know he told the mother he was gonna take the baby out of state. we'll give you a description of the vehicle. here's a picture of a similar

write a proposal to require labels on genetically modified foods sold in local stores. if approved, the law would apply to all food retailers in richmond. a similar statewide proposal was narrowly defeated by voters last year. a new lawsuit claims lake county is responsible for landslides that left over a dozen homes uninhabitable. the lawsuit claims improper maintenance caused the county water system to leak, resulting in devastating land slides last spring that damaged 17 homes in the lakeport subdivision. homeowners say the slides also caused a drop in property values for the other homes in the suv division -- subdivision. county officials have not commented on the lawsuit. we have an update about the story of wild pigs tearing up lance lawns -- tearing up lawns and a golf course. last night the city council voted 8-3 to allow people to shoot the pigs if they have the proper state hunting permits.

tara moriarty joining us live. you have new video of the fire damage that forced about a dozen people to flee, tara. >> reporter: yeah. and the nearly dozen people who live next door to where the fire broke out are now safely inside. we want to show you the building that was saved. this is the main building of the internet archives. this is the big bll off funston -- building off funston and clement. the flames charred a room in the back. that's where librarians would scan books and films. this is new video we want to show you that shows the damage up close. the fire breaking out before 4:00 this morning at clement. 60 firefighters responded to this two-alarm fire. that's because crews say it was roaring with flames shooting three stories high. nearly a dozen people who live next door above a chinese restaurant were evacuated safely. >> units on scene made an aggressive attack through the front door.

tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. 8:34. new this morning from suisun city. drivers on highway 12 in suisun city had to pass through that heavy smoke. now, about 6:00 this morning a car crashed into a ditch causing a vegetation fire. now, while only a small amount of land was burned. that fire caused big plumes of smoke. you can see it for miles. the chp briefly shut down the eastbound lanes of highway 12. jail inmate is expected to testify again today in a preliminary hearing about the murder of oakland federal investigator sandra coke. the "oakland tribune" reports the inmate testified that randy alana didn't seem upset when sandra coke disappeared back in august and said the two were involved in an argument around that time. the inmate says he had that conversation with alana while he was in the santa rita jail for a parole violation after being named a person of interest in sandra coke's disappearance.

coke's body was found in vacaville four days after she was reported missing. 8:35. police say they are still trying to understand the motive of a 16-year-old boy accused of setting a young man on fire as he slept on a bus in oakland. officers arrested the oakland high school student yesterday after reviewing surveillance video from an a.c. transit bus. police say the 18-year-old victim luke fleishman who also goes by sashaa is in stage condition in san francisco at a hospital. other passengers on the same line 57 bus route in oakland monday night say they were disturbed by what they saw. friends of fleishman set up a web page to save money for his medical bills. this morning it's already raised more than 5300. happening now -- police in sunnyvale are holding a news conference about the abduction that's triggered a statewide amber alert. let's listen in as police update us on the search for 2-

from san jose state where this is bound to have an impact on classes there. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning. well, it's unknown how many classes will be affected. but the faculty here knows they have to trim. they are concerned. that's why this emergency et mooing is being scheduled and held here. they face a $32 million budget. significant cuts have been made over the last year. now for the spring semester. the university says $4 million more needs to be cut. the dean told the faculty in an e-mail this will result in class sections being reduced. department chairs have been asked to compine class sections and increase class sizes. a university spokesperson told us about the changes they are looking at. >> try very hard to look at sezs with low enrollment. try hard to combine sections. this is not easy. this is not anything. this is not something anyone wants to do.

francisco. an early-morning shooting there in the south of market area and brian flores has been on this for the past two hours. you are back with all of the new information. >> reporter: good morning. it's now turned into a homicide investigation as the victim in one of the cars from the shooting early this morning, we just got word has died. this is the scene. it will be cleared here within the next five or ten minutes or so. a tow truck came by and removed the victim's car about five minutes ago. that car was shot several times according to police. now, i spoke with an sfpd sergeant. he said they still don't know what started the shooting. they don't have a definitive subject description or a defin siv suspect car at this point -- definitive suspect. at this point. somebody in a car opened fire. after that, the driver of the camry tried frantically to look

for help. police say he tried to flag down a fire truck responding to another call off third and brannan. that's when the driver crashed into something. we don't know if that was another car. the driver reportedly took off. but two other passengers stayed while another victim sitting in the right here passenger side was taken to san francisco general hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. he did have life-threatening injuries this morning. we just got word he did pass away. the shot spotter system tracked six mocks. they've -- six shots. now, back out here live, they are gonna reopen this area probably within the next five, ten minutes. this has been a little bit of a traffic issue at third and brannan as well as third and bryant. as soon as they clear the scene, traffic will be moving. we'll have another update coming up at noon today. we're live here in san francisco, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, brian. police officers taking on

new roles. the plan is designed to make the streets of san jose safer. but as pam cook reports from the newsroom, some say it comes at a cost that we should not pay. >> reporter: the san jose police department says it is severely understaffed and is now trying something new. but some officers are not happy about it. starting tomorrow, the department will require detectives take turns as patrol officers in san jose. under the plan 70 detectives will begin rotating on patrol units one day a month. the san jose police department tells us here at ktvu news, there are 912 officers covering the bay area's biggest city. only about half of them are on street patrol. but detectives worry the plan to move officers comes at two big of a cost. having an officer spend one additional day on the street, instead of investigating the 40 or 50 days on the desk is devastating to our

expect the work to begin. but the whole demolition process is expected to take at least three years. the surprising discovery for contractors working on san francisco's new central subway. they've dug up the foundation of a cathedral buried in the 1906 earthquake. officials say contractors were digging in san francisco's north beach neighborhood when they found the foundation of the holy trinity cathedral. a piece was presented to the church which had moved to a different location just a month before the earthquake. the surprise discovery and demolition of the foundation added $250,000 to the cost of the project. the central subway is scheduled to open in 2019. >> that's fascinating. let's check in with sal. do i want to drive into san francisco now, sal? >> it's a lapt push, dave and tori. you might want to do it. save, the show is over. you might want to do it in 15 minutes.
