welcome to mornings on 2. it is sunday, november 10. >> good morning everyone, i'm mike mibach. slight change in the weather headed our way. let's take a quick look at that forecast. >> good morning to you. another nice day in store as the fog is back along the coastline and just inside portions of the bay this morning. temperatures are running cool once again, but with the cloud cover in some areas, not as cold for some of you. mostly sunny for your afternoon. i'll have your numbers for today coming up. new this morning, more than 181,000 pounds of chicken pucks are being recalled. it is based in richmond and the chicken could be contaminated with e. coli. allie rasmus is live where some of the recalled items could be found at trader joe's. >> right now you can see people

are inside restocking the shelves, cleaning the windows, getting ready for the typically busiest shopping day of the week. the two items on the recall list are the pre-packaged mexicali salad and the chopped salad with grilled chicken. those items are on the list of 16 products recalled because of the possible e. coli contamination. now, the products are made by richmond-based company called glass onion catering. all the recalled items are prepackaged salads, wraps, or some kind of a chicken deli meat in them. 23 people in three states got sick after eating these items. if you have a wrap or salad in your fridge, these are the dates you need to look out for. food between november 23 and december 6. they are all being shipped between texas, oregon, utah, washington. only two of the 16 recalled items are sold at trader joe's.

others are sold under the delish brand names sold in walgreens. we've posted the full list of items on the website as you can scroll down to the hot topic section on our main page. we've also contacted the president of the glass onion catering this morning to ask about the recall. we're waiting to hear back from him. live in oakland, allie rasmus, channel 2 news. continuing coverage of the monster typhoon storm right now approaching the northern coast of vietnam. it is expected to reach the coastline this hour. nearly one million people have been ordered to evacuate. the associated press reports that the storm killed more than 10,000 people in the philippines and thousands of people are still unaccounted for. a mass burial will be held today for all of those victims reported with the details on the devastation.

after one of the strongest storm ravaged several of their islands on friday. they swept across shore at 195 miles per hour. damaging any building in its path. the storm brought heavy rain leaving many trapped by flooding and scared for their lives. dramatic video shows the producer trying to rescue people from mattresses on the hotel. the cnn crew got everyone out risking their lives. meanwhile homes were destroyed, roads were washed away and the red cross dealing with the power shut down across several of the-- islands. >> they are trying to bring supplies like food and water to people. >> we have teams going out brows to the worse affected

areas where we are already working with, helping with the cleanwaters, emergency shelters. we'll look at how the storm impacted them, the secondary impasse. and then also, i'll be sending assessment teams as soon as they reopen. >> however, the red cross says they are still unable to get them into the city. that city suffered the most severe devastation. describe seeing more than 100 bodies after the storm. although officials say that hundreds of thousands of people evacuated, millions are still feeling their catastrophic effect. ktvu channel 2 news. bay area residents are due in their part to help through the relief efforts and fundraisers. a group called project pearl will collect donations from 10:00 this morning until 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon in san bruno. they are looking for canned and dried goods as well as baby foods, shampoo, and tooth paste as you can also go to ktvu.com

for information on how to help victims, just scroll down and look for web links. new this morning, the airlines is reportedly making an important hire to try to enhance safety. the move is in response to the crash of 214 back in july. south korea's largest news agency reports that next month the former executive at japan's airline will become the vice president in charge of aviation safety and security. and it's the first time in their 25-year history that the foreign safety specialist has been hired. still no official cause for the crash that killed three passengers, injuring more than 180 others. family and friends and the 13-year-old boy shot and killed by the snow hoe mental anguish county deputy are looking for the transparent investigation. >> and your house, it will be a threat as it needs to be eliminated. >> dozens of people gathered in santa rosa yesterday to

protest. authorities say that the deputy, he shot lopez after saying that the teen boy turned towards him with what turned out to be a replica gun. and they attended the rally, but too overcome with emotions to speak publicly. >> for something that he has done, you know, he took that person away. >> and some demonstrators want the deputy to face criminal charges. they have filed a federal civil lawsuit against the sheriff department. a few hundred people in oakland marched in support of andy lopez. some carried signs saying that we are officer grant. shot and killed by the bart station on new year's day 2009. that officer later faced charges for the shooting and served time. march ended with a rally in the sheriff's office. while other protesters rallied in the mission district. many called themselves

activists, holding signs calling for more attentions to the dogs and cools, rather than cops and jails. and similar decisions in los angeles. happening today, the streets of san francisco will be filled with people honoring the men and women that have served in the united states armed forces. the veteran's day parade will be held this morning, even though the parade starts at 11:00. second street has been closed to the vehicle traffic. market street will also be closed starting at 10:00 this morning as the streets will not reopen until after the parade is over and the road ways have been cleaned. this year's parade is paying a special tribute to the 60th anniversary of the end of the korean war. the san francisco 49ers, they will honor veterans today when they host the panthers this afternoon. they will hold a special salute to those in the the service. prior to kick off with the video from last year's game as it is all part of the nfl's salute for the harvest

all reporting the thick fog this morning. if you look to the east, it will be a gorgeous start of the day giving you a big look at the sun that will be shining right there. away from the coast for the afternoon, settle changes will continue in the way of the cooler temperatures for the second half of the day. eventually we may see some rain. we'll talk about it for just a moment as it remains a big story and you can see how it is very close now to becoming ashore for vietnam. let's track it for you. the winds are 85 miles per hour. still a westerly track at 21 miles per hour. that's good news as you don't want them to slow down right off the coast as you need to move in through the next 24 hours or so. it will continue to weaken by this afternoon with a 65 miles per hour winds estimated. and then tomorrow morning, 40 miles per hour. and still it is going to bring

welcome back. thank you for joining us. a live look at the bay bridge, partly cloudy skies and patchy fog. well, we are following the developing story of the mass shooting near houston. two people are dead. at least 22 others are injured. it happened at the large birthday party late last night and more than 100 people packed into the two-story home. investigators say that someone inside started shooting. a man and a woman were killed and almost two dozen others suffered injuries described as minor to critical. >> that's the gun shot that everybody was showing. i was watching the commotion. and there was a car that looked

suspicious and they were all trying to hide from it. but it was just chaos. >> the victims, they range in age from 14 to in their early 20s. this morning they are looking for two suspects, but they have not given any indication of the possible motive. two people are hurt after the shooting at the ice skating rink in new york city. a woman taken by the woman visiting the area from san francisco. that shooting happened late last night. one man, they were hit in the back and the other in the leg as they were both taken to the hospital and are expected to recover. the ice skating rink is located near the new york public library and a popular spot for the tourists as they have not made any arrest. linked to a gun scare at lax. and they say that the 27-year- old san jose man arrived to terminal three from san francisco where he was seen taking his gun from his bag and the same terminal where in tsa they were shot and killed one week earlier.

a man was arrested on charges of brandishing a weapon, but later released that the gun was not loaded and he was carrying it legally. following the newscast, they will have an exclusive interview with the lineman richie incognito. >> it speaks to culture of our locker room and the culture of the closeness and the culture of our brotherhood. and the racism, the bad words, you know, that's what i regret most, but that's a product of the environment and that's something that we use all the time. >> incognito is currently suspended after the teammate and former stanford player accused him of threatening and hazing him and his family's life. however, incognito said he always had martin's back. a special nfl investigator will interview him later this week. you can see the entire newscast at 9:00 this morning.

a u.s. navy spokesman said they expect more people will be implicated in a major bribery scandal involving money, sex, and lady gaga tickets. three officers are now charged with selling classified or privileged information to a singapore-based defense contractor arrested on sunday for bribery charges. the officers received cash, prostitutes, and even lady gaga and lion king show tickets. >> you can kind of see how if you fell into the mode of socializing with him that it might be possible to get swept up by that. and that is why so many military officers are a little bit weary of him. >> investigators say the defense contractor used that information to overbill the united states to admirals, including director of naval intelligence that are also under investigation, while they have not been charged, they have lost their security clearance and were placed on leave. a company is recalling some

of their baby and children's food. a spokesperson from plum organics say they found a manufacturing defect in the pouches for the baby stage 2 called mish mash. it could cause spoilage. best buy dates ranging from august 5, 2014 to december 8, 2014. anyone who has purchased those products can call plum organics for a replacement voucher. a new report shows that napa county has a higher amount of whooping cough. they were sent to health officials last month after three cases were found last week. now, those cases, they brought the state's 2013 totals to ten. officers are getting an extra boost when it comes to cracking down on drunk drivers. they just got a grant from the california office of traffic and safety for their dui crack down campaign. they plan to add more dui check points during the winter and

summer holidays, including the super bowl, st. patrick's day, and halloween. prices will continue to drop for seven weeks in a row. the u.s. average for a gallon is $3.28. the lowest since december of 2011. the average right here in california is $3.65. state average is higher than the national average for california and that they require a higher grade for clean energy initiatives. here is a look at where they stand in the bay area. right now the regular price per gallon is $3.73. san jose it is $3.56. the average price in oakland, $3.62. bank of america, they may have to pay the u.s. government close to $1 billion. and finally late friday and the u.s. district court of manhattan, the government asked for the penalty and where it is after the federal jury found them liable for the fraud over defected mortgages sold by their country wide unit. they have previously said that

it is evaluating their option for the appeal as they have to respond to the penalty request by november 20. this week thousands of couples are expected to get married on a day with special meaning. this tuesday is 11/12/13 and thousands of couples are planning to tie the the knots on the iconic date. according to research, more than 3,000 couples nationwide plan on saying i do on the consecutive date. well, he would not survive that, but they beat the odds. we'll tell you who helped them recover and who they are searching for now. outside our doors, a cool start and cloudy this morning for some. i'll have a look at when to expect those clouds to burn off and what you can expect in the extended forecast. rain for some, i'll show you that coming up.

a major recall involving chicken products sold at the bay area stores. what you need to know if you have some of that chicken in your home this morning. good morning and welcome back to mornings on 2. i'm claudine wong. >> i'm mike mibach. check your fridge as more than 181,000 pounds of chicken products are being recalled by an east bay company glass onion catering headquarters. located in richmond. company officials say that it could be contaminated with e. coli. allie rasmus is live for us this morning outside the trader joe's in oakland where they say that some of the recalled items could be found. >> reporter: there's a total of 16 items on the list. prepackaged salads or wraps with chicken or some sort of a deli meat. two of them are regularly sold and they want you to see it. it's called the mexicali style chicken. and the chopped salad with grilled chicken. the recall foods are made by

are following for you after pounding the philippines, they are now barreling into vietnam. nearly 1 million people are being evacuated there while they have issued the emergency alert as they brace for the storm later this week. and the associated press, they estimate that the storm has killed more than 10,000 people. but the death toll could be much higher. the bay area is holding fundraisers to help typhoon victims this morning. it'll be on the el camino in san bruno. the u.s. government is also offering aid to the victims, they made an initial $100,000 available to provide basic health care, clean water, and sanitation with even more money coming in future days. defense secretary chuck hagel has asked them to command the relief supplies to help the rescued information. it's the lead agencies for the

international humanitarian response that has dispatched the team to the region. the search continues for the missing david mccendry, first reported missing to santa rosa police on october 31. and the girlfriend said that they were having an emotional break down when they left their foot -- when they left on their foot in santa rosa as they found no suspicious activity to the body found floating in san francisco and the person walking the dog, they first spotted them described as badly decomposed. >> they are on edge after five members of the families were shot. three of them were killed. and one of the victims called 911, saying he and his family have been shot. two suspects were seen leaving the area.

and they are not discussing the case, but they are concerned that the gunman may have gone door to door shooting the victim as they slept. >> i'm scared because i don't know what's going to happen. if they're going to come back. i'm not safe. >> and a 6-year-old boy in that house was able to escape safely and run to a nearby home for help. a prayer vigil was held last night for the family. we're learning new information from the school where a teacher was shot and killed last month. the school's superintendent now says that there is no evidence that the 7th grader was bullied before injuring classmates. they say that he was teased and never showed signs of anger. that bullying played a role in that shooting. >> and they will be wrapping up the controlled burn from yesterday. many residents reported seeing smoke from the burn in big basin state park. this was the view from one of

our cameras downtown san francisco. that's according to cal fire that they let that burn continue through the 9th, expecting a total of 340 acres to have burned. fire crews will be on site all day in lake county, still battling the fire, but according to cal fire, they are now 50% contained. that fire started on the afternoon east of highway 29. and they have burned about 120 acres, which is down slightly from earlier estimates. they say they are working to protect a dozen homes remaining in the fire's past. and one out building and at least one vehicle that has been destroyed. friends and family continue to mourn the wheel-chair bound man that was hit and killed. now, last night the loved one came together to remember them. the 31-year-old was trying to cross market street last week when he was hit by the car. and that was getting on to the freeway. >> it's a crazy one as people are trying to get on the

freeway and they are in danger over there and everyone is in danger. >> police, they are still investigating what exactly happened, but said that they are known for accidents between 2009 and 2011. there were 30 collisions there. the highest grade in the city. that's why the cameras were activated the day that they were hit. >> yesterday a group of strangers united on the old bay bridge span to remember the loved ones who had died on the eastern span, set up as the last chance for them before the bridge was demolished. more than 150 people took part and some hanging pictures, while others stood alone. and they are now out towards the bay. >> for the people that put this together and they had said let's do it in memory of life. >> the idea for the event was inspired by the east bay mother. back in september. she had the opportunity to set up the memorial for her son. they said that they wanted to

let others have the same experience. the bridge demolition is expected to start. and they will be expected to tear down the old eastern span in the coming days. scheduled to start last wednesday, but the new date will be some time this week. it involves removing 1,400 of the construction for the island as they need to last through the end of the year and the entire span is going to take a few years. and combined 90 points, but it's the trojans that needed to come away with most of them. and nelson, they will need to catch it and then decide to look like a fighter jet. and that you can call it 7-0 less than two minutes in the second quarter, down 21-7 and it's the old free flicker. and in the end zone with the nice grab down by seven. but that's all she wrote. and their special will not be

it's not a bad day out there. a little cool again, but rosemary is warming it up for us. >> yeah, we're going to feel nice once we get into the afternoon. another enjoyable day. this morning we're waking up with calm conditions. some of us, actually not as cold as yesterday morning and it has to do with the great skies. let's take a look at what's happening. and a look at the oakland view and the golden hue there. what a beautiful shot as we get into the afternoon, mostly sunny skies. this morning we had patchy fog in areas with sunshine yesterday morning now waking up gray. take a look at the footprint here in santa rosa and nevada. patchy dense fog reported there. if you do have to be outdoors early, you can be aware of it. waking up with fog and hooking at the quarter mile there. you might have a little bit of trouble to get out, taking it

slow. partly to mostly cloudy skies. begin creeping in yesterday afternoon. i noticed by the second half of the afternoon, santa cruz with partly cloudy skies. helped out by the system that's roaring across southern california with that southerly surge to work their way up the coastline yesterday afternoon. a ridge of high pressure in place as you can notice this here with the clouds and at that ridge and beginning to continue for them that will be safe and breaking down the system behind it is what might bring a little bit of rain by tuesday morning as they could come just in time for the morning drive. we'll be tracking that for you. be sure to tune it in and you can get closer. 43 degrees right now in concord cupper 30s in nevado. if you do not like the overcast skies, at least it helps with your temperatures. sort of acting as a blanket in the overnight hours. 54 degrees right now, anywhere from 15 to 18 degrees cooler at this time yesterday morning

with the mostly clear skies. for the afternoon, temperatures will continue to cool. for some a very settle cool down and you may not really notice anywhere from 3 to 5 degrees for nevado this afternoon. upper 60s in oakland. 72 for danville. low 70s for livermore. san jose, 70 for you. upper 60s for sunnyvale, santa cruz, mid-60s in san francisco if you're going to see the the niners play this afternoon. mostly sunny skies and mild for you there. the extended forecast here, veteran's day will be a cloudier one as temperatures are continuing to cool. but it's tuesday morning when the rain arrives. right now it's favoring the north bay as they may slide south just a little bit through the morning hours, but still looking like maybe a tenth of an inch, perhaps less than that and some of us down in the south bay may not see any.

good morning to you, a live look at the downtown skyline this morning. partly cloudy skies with a few patches of fog and 53 degrees. well getting ready to camp out again, yes, there are new reports. it will be even more high-tech than the previous ones. according to bloomberg. the new designs include the bigger screens ken lance sensors to detect different levels of pressure. the latest iphone added new fingerprint technology. >> they hope to take a big step towards the immigration reform this week. hoping they could pressure them into passing a reform bill. and the senate is considering a

proposal including the program for them and the lower skilled workers in a pathway to the citizenship. some conservatives say that they allow them to lay off americans and higher the immigrant workers instead. this is video of the the protest held yesterday in san francisco. people are demanding that he be fired. that comes after airing a segment on his show asking children how to solve the country's deficit to china. one child responded to kill everyone in china. the petition on the white house website forced kimmel to be fired with now more than 100,000 signatures. that amount to be a response. former secretary made her way through san francisco for two different appearances. while they were not allowed inside, they got a glimpse of clinton. it was just opened up to the national association of

i want to take a look because giving you a view here at just how close it is to moving ashore there with the center of the storm and you can see it just right off the coastline of vietnam with bands of rain already moving in. the winds as well. it is weakening, but with that said it is still expected to have a huge impact with significant rain, the flooding, the storm surge and the strong winds. right now consider it a category one with 85 miles per hour. moving at the northwesterly pace and 20 miles per hour as i need to take you through the next 12 to 24 hours to move ashore a little bit later today continuing to weaken, 65 miles per hour and then they move to south china with winds at 40 miles per hour. so still having a significant impact, but at least weakening. and that will be some positive news. here at home, we have no gripes. where is the rain? it will not come today or tomorrow and that will be good news for them as temperatures are continuing to cool down back along the coastline with a

new recall. allie rasmus? >> reporter: some of the recalled items could be found at trader joe's. opening up about 10 minutes ago. several customers heading in this morning. sunday is typically a busy shopping day for grocery stores. but the two trader joe's items on the recalled list are the pre-packaged salad with the chili lime chicken and the chopped salad with grilled chicken. those items are on list with the 16 products that are recalled by the fda this morning because of the possible e. coli contamination. they are made by the richmond based company called glass onion catering. all are pre-packaged salads or wraps in them. and according to the fda. 26 people in three states got sick after eating these food items. if you have a pre-packaged salad or wrap in your fridge, these are the dates that you'll have to look out for. food made between september 23 and november 6 and the food being recalled will ship to grocery stores in arizona, california, nevada, new mexico,

vehicle tried to get away, running over one of the process here. and that's when police, they say that the motorcyclist followed the car, pulled the man o beating him. the grand jury determined that there will be enough evidence to move forward with official charges. and one of -- one of the bikers is an undercover police officers. a female employee at the oregon animal sanctuary has been killed by a wildcat. the attack happened late last night at wildcat haven in oregon just outside of portland. the emergency medical responders said they had a hard time getting to the woman because the other cats were also confined in the area with her. >> and just anybody, you know, having that, you know passing away or just knowing that it could happen. it breaks your heart and it's sad. >> on the website they house more than six big cats including cougars and tigers.

and finally late in manhattan, they asked for the penalties after the federal jury found the bank liable for fraud over defected mortgages sold by their country wide unit. bank of america has previously said that it is evaluating their options for the appeal. the bank needs to respond to the penalty request by november 20. the emery based company is recalling some of their baby and children's food and the spokesperson from plum organics says that they found the manufacturing defect and the pouches for the baby stage two and tops the lines. the defect could cause a spoilage. the recall applies to the best buy dates ranging from august 5, 2014 to december 8, 2014. anyone that has purchased the products, they can contact the plum organics for a replacement voucher. a new report shows that they have a higher than normal amount of the whooping cough cases that they were sent to the health officials last month. that they were found in less than a week and those cases,

>> all right, some problem there. we hope to get her back in just a bit. we are learning new information from a school where a teacher was shot and killed last month. there is no evidence that the 7th grader was bullied before shooting a teacher to death and injured two classmates. the boy's parents say he was teased, but never showed signs of anger. residents are on edge after five members of a family were shot with three of them killed. it happened late friday night into saturday morning. one of the victims called 911, saying he and his family were shot. two suspects were seen leaving the area while investigators are not discussing the case. concerned neighbors, they're speculating that the gunman, they may have gone door to door, shooting the victims as they slept. >> and i'm scared. because i don't know what's going to happen. you know, if they are going to come back or, you know, i don't know. i'm afraid.

areas. i want to say thank you to the veterans for their sacrifice. let's go outdoors to see what's happening. the fog is back along the coastline for them. and in fact san jose, the fog that you can see for the visibility, right around the half mile for the airport as you may find that and a little tough to get around this morning. if you do have an early morning drive. san jose and mountain view, you can see it over the east bay as well. up along the coastline, a mix of sun and clouds here at the bay. now, santa rosa and them, fog this morning with a visibility that will be looking better than earlier, you may find it a little thick as well in the east bay, waking up with mostly sunny skies once again. now as we started the morning, the low clouds are helping us to blanket a bit as temperatures are warmer. but as we get through the second half of the morning hour, a reverse effect and the clouds will hold our temperatures down. we're going to look at those numbers in just a moment. a look at what's going on. and the ridge of high pressure is still in place as it will be

weakening, but it's still there. now, yet, we had some clouds move up from the south helped out by the system here moving over southern california. but then they will begin creeping up. by the second half of the day, they had partly cloudy skies as you can see it up along the coast. this is the system that will bring us some rain as we get into tuesday. and again it is still favoring the north bay with a slight possibility of the scattered showers down to san francisco and parts of the east bay. and again we're looking mainly dry. 50 degrees right now in walnut creek. and 46 in navad still benefiting from the low clouds, 45 degrees. a lot chillier this morning and half moon bay also a lot warmer, relatively speaking for yesterday morning. but mountain view and san jose are reporting a few degrees cooler without the sunshine. ridge of high pressure is still in place today and the system, they will need to continue to work their way towards the coast and they will need to rain mostly sunny for your sunday and a tad cooler for dry

help military vets find a job. it is the latest effort to make sure that the service members who leave the armed forces, they are cared for. the initiative provides the counseling, job search, and the readiness programs and the access to the computers and the copy machines. located at 1060 howard street. ed lee says that the project recognizes and values the unique skills and the experienced veterans offers to the work force. and also there's a new government program on out to the gay veterans. that's one of the six metropolitan areas that will be offering the special services. they tell the chronicle that the pilot program began in october. and they help the gay vets with issues including the discrimination. now, the veterans affairs department estimates about a million of the 21 million vets considering themselves a member of the lbgt community. and the bravery of the soldier killed during the vietnam war is going to be recognized on veteran's day. 21-year-old army sergeant martino was killed by friendly fire in 1970. he was set to return home early
