>> a 14-year-old boy killed in the east bay four years ago, but a search on google maps makes it look like it was just yesterday. now the boy's father is asking google to take down that image. good evening, i'm ken wayne. >> and hello, everyone. i'm heather holmes. if you look at the address where that boy was killed, google will show you a very disturbing image of his body from 2009. now his family is demanding that the mountain view based company remove the image. we're live in richmond with more on what could be an uphill battle against the tech giant. >> reporter: well, google is not normally in the business of pulling potentially offensive items, but one father here in richmond is hoping the internet giant will show respect for his dead son and remove an image that is opening old wounds. zoom in on google maps to

theserailroad tracks and you'll see a police car, several officers and a body lying on the ground uncovered. it's believed to be 14-year-old kevin berera found shot to death in 2009. his father says he learned about this disturbing online image just a few days ago. >> when i see these images, it's still like it happened yesterday. really fresh, you know. and that take me back to, you know, a lot of memories. >> reporter: his son's killer was never caught. frustrating enough for the family, now another challenge, trying to get the internet search engine to do what berera says is the right thing. >> what's the point to show those pictures to the people, you know? these are pictures of my dead son. this is really painful for the whole family. but one technology expert says despite this gruesome scene, google probably won't pull the image. >> when they remove it for one person for one thing, then how do they not do it for others?

so they found it easier just to say no. >> reporter: but berera says he won't take no for an answer. he's planning to lodge a formal complaint and possibly reach out to lawmakers for help. he's on a mission to honor his son's memory. and i reached out to google today for a comment on that controversial image, but i have not yet received a response. the technology analyst i spoke with today says that google is constantly getting requests to remove offensive items from the web and he told me most of them go nowhere. live tonight in richmond, alex savage, ktvu channel 2 news. san francisco police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened early this morning in the city's south market neighborhood. women were shot were simply sitting in their car. >> san francisco police closed off the intersection of sixth and jesse streets as they gathered evidence into a deadly shooting. it happened after 2:00 this morning after a nightclub

closed and the crowd spilled out into the street and parking lot. >> i heard a bunch of arguing. so many people arguing. and the next thing i heard was a bunch of gunfire. >> police say two women were shot in their parked car. an ambulance rushed them to the hospital. one died from her injuries. the other was in critical condition. fred cooper didn't want his face shown on camera but he lives in the hotel above the parking lot and says he saw the gunman. >> he shot in the car on one side and then went around and shot again. >> so it looked like he was targeting. >> yeah, it was point blank. >> reporter: he works and lives on sixth street, a neighborhood with a history of drugs and prostitution. >> it's all right, getting better. >> he says things improved after police opened a substation on the street but understands why some of his neighbors are fed up with the rowdy crowds that pour out of the nightclubs. >> that club right there, that club right there, at night, weekends, they're all here. >> reporter: police don't have

a description of the suspect for us and they haven't made any arrests but there are several sthstles cameras a-- surveillance cameras across the street from where this happened that may help with the investigation. in san francisco, ktvu channel 2 news. >> police in the south bay area are investigating a deadly shooting that happened at 3:00 in the morning in the 100 block of golden rain drive in san jose. the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. there are no suspects and it's not known if the shooting is gang related. it's san jose's 42nd homicide of the year. developing news now, coming out of the midwest tonight as that area is getting hammered by severe weather. at least three people are dead and many others have been injured in the storms across the region. those storms race through several states causing significant damage and indiana, ohio, and illinois. and a severe thunderstorm warning has now been issued for several parts of the midwest. martha shay takes us to some of the hardest hit areas. >> reporter: severe storms hit

much of the nation's midsection. people across 26 states affected, this funnel cloud was spotted in washington, illinois. and storm chaser in central illinois captured these pictures. large hail, clouds and heavy winds blanket the area. the national weather service confirmed this tornado near peaken, illinois. >> we saw a lot of wreckage. we saw the trees down. we saw houses with their roofs completely torn off. we saw power lines down. there's a huge clouds, huge storm clouds, a lot of people in distress and like with their homes destroyed. car bin does are shattered. it wasn't a pretty sight. >> this video was shot in indiana. it shows cars turned over on their sides and businesses severely damaged. in chicago, the bears/ravens game was suspended. they forced fans into safe areas within the stadium. >> it's an old and historical but very well structured building that gives us a great

advantage. plus the fact that we've been able to practice these plans. >> reporter: tornado watches and warnings were issued from michigan to missouri. rains, high winds and large hail swept through this part of st. louis downing trees and scattering debris on roadways. and in wisconsin, high winds caused damage to homes and neighborhoods. other places such as detroit and nashville are also seeing severe weather. ktvu channel 2 news. >> and in the bay area to parts of the midwest, some flights have been delayed as a result of the severe weather. at last check flights leaving san francisco international airport were delayed up to two years. oakland airport tells us there are no delays right now there. we've been tracking the conditions there in the midwest. >> he's in the weather center to tell us what's going on out there right now. mark? >> reporter: the most severe weather has moved out of the chicago area. right now mostly cloudy disease at o'hare airport. today we had some strong upper level winds also seal the

disturbance pushing through the region. again here with the circulation on live storm tracker two. you can see all the severe weather on the radar here. you get an idea this morning. look at all the thunderstorms popping up and right now the bulk of the activity is shifting out to the north and to the east. as far as all the tornado reports look at all these. these are all the reports from the public and some of these storm spotters out there as you can't pick out all of those red circles there corresponding to tornado reports over the past 24 hours. the latest right now on the imagery, you can see most of the severe thunderstorms, at least most of the thunderstorms moving into michigan. chicago right now, illinois, reporting partly to mostly cloudy skies. right now on our weather pattern tracking a significant change. five day coming up in a few minutes. >> you can follow mark and the rest of the ktvu weather team online. they're posting updates to facebook and twitter even when we're not on the air. a crash on i-280 claimed the life of a san jose man. the accident happened after noon in santa clara county near

lose altos hills. his identity has not been released and no other cars were involved in the crash. two largest unions plan to meet early this week to talk about their actionness light of the latest contract dispute. bart sways it was a mistake to include a cause in the contract that grants six weeks of paid family leave to workers. bart estimates that would cost about $11 million a year. the unions say the estimate is inflated and that the costs would be $1.4 million a year. bart's board is scheduled to vote on the contract thursday. so far the unions are not considering a strike, if the board turns down that contract. a hearing in san francisco tomorrow is expected to put state utility workers on the hot seat. the meeting comes after a report last month from the state senate subcommittee which found that the california public utilities commission does not pay enough attention to safety. the report was also critical of the lack of progress on safety

a plane crash in russia left no survivors. officials say there were 50

people aboard the plane when it crashed during its second landing attempt at an airport. witnesses say the boeing 737 burst into flames as it hit the ground. the cause of the crash remains under investigation, but industry experts blame aging aircraft, poor safety standards, and lax government oversight for russia's recent string of deadly plane crashes. there were 44 passengers and 6 crew members aboard that flight. and continuing coverage now of typhoon haiyan, millions of survivors in the philippines face a stark need for food, medicine and shelter. meteorologists now say that haiyan was the largest typhoon ever to make landfall. 13 million people are affected by the disaster. about a third of them are children. and 2.5 million people are hungry. >> we had to gather foods, we have to gather water. we have to make anything out of anything that we have left. >> the typhoon wipes out the

city's warehouse district also hampering efforts to rebuild, get stagnant water flowing again and get food to people. here in the bay area, some people spent their sunday at church play praying for the typhoon victims and helping the relief efforts. more than one week after that typhoon hit, there is still an outpouring of aid. ♪ [ music ] >> reporter: inside the church of st. isabella, there were prayers for those lost. >> the typhoon in the philippines. >> reporter: and outside the church on parish ground, an effort to render aid to the survivors of typhoon haiyan. one of those dropping off supplies was this woman. >> my uncle lost his house. my one uncle has been here for three days. luckily they all survived. >> her relatives live in taks

tack low ban -- tacloban. news reports much needed aid is getting through. >> we've never seen this much devastation in the philippines. >> they're with filipino americans in northern california which organized this relief effort raising cash along with two dozen boxes of supplies ready to ship. >> filipinos, nonfilipinos, americans, everyone is helping out. >> this relief drive is echoed by another taking place in san jose and likely events like this all over the country. it is needed. according to the united nations, 375,000 people in the philippines have received some sort of assistance and millions could be in need. with every major disaster comes relief efforts and donations, a wave of support that eventually fades. but donor chuck burkett says he isn't seeing that yet. >> actually i feel there's momentum building. >> reporter: the organizers of this event agree as heading into the second week of this disaster the aid is still

pouring in. in san rafael. >> our website, ktvu.com, posted a way you can help the victims of the typhoon. scroll down and click on weblinks. tomorrow marks the 25th anniversary of the mass murder/suicide at jonestown guy anthat was led by gay area cult leader jim jones. 900 people most from the bay area died after drinking kool- aid spiked with cyanide. jones died of a gunshot wound, apparently self inflicted. congressman was shot and killed on a trip to investigate the cult. until the september 11th attacks, this was the greatest single loss of american civilians lives from a deliberate act. tonight we will examine the terrible day and its legacy. oakland police released the identity of a man killed in an overnight motorcycle crash. 33-year-old scott stucker died when his vehicle went through

the intersection of vanilla avenue and 51st street west of broadway and slammed into his motorcycle. the other drive was not hurt. police did not say whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. they continue to investigate. the walnut cree city council this week will take up controversial parking changes. they'll discuss a plan that includes requiring drivers to feed parking meters on sundays, extending enforcement time to 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and increasing meter rates from $1 to $2 an hour. downtown businesses are particularly worried about charging for parking on sundays, saying it could drive away customers. a biology professor from the university of nevada is suing the forest service to try to block logging. they sue the agency is allowing logging illegally under the guys of reducing wildfire threats that don't actually exist. he says his analysis proves there is low fire risk in the high altitude old growth forest

near south lake tahoe. >> of course, fire danger is something we talk about here in the bay area. we have gone a really long time without any rain. meteorologist mark ibanez says that may be changing. >> the good news, because of fire danger, it's hard to believe we're in the middle of november and still talking about fire danger out there. we have not had that soaking rain yet. that will be changing over the next few days. right now a few high clouds paying under the circumstances a visit on live storm tracker 2. look on the left portion of your screen. that is development out there. that will be setting up our next storm that will be moving into northern california. it will impact the bay area forecast. right now on live storm tracker 2, the multiple doppler sweeps showing you nothing. we are in the clear right now. this will be busy as early as tomorrow night, but especially by tuesday up in the north bay. you can see some of the current numbers are in the 50s. in san jose, 57 degrees. walnut creek 52. santa rosa 52 degrees. forecast, we'll get to that in a little bit.

you get the idea most neighborhoods right now are in the low to mid-50s out there. concord currently as we mentioned 55 degrees. the forecast for tomorrow, much here for the concord forecast and into the monday forecast, we'll have this waking up tomorrow morning at 6:00, partly cloudy skies. clouds will continue to be on the increase on track to reach the upper 50s by 12:00. by 3:00 tomorrow afternoon. the bay area will cool down, it has started and will continue as we head into your monday. for tonight, we'll have increasing high clouds for the most part. in fact, here is our live camera looking out toward, i believe coming up for you, it is san francisco. that comes up for you right now. there we go looking out toward the bay bridge in san francisco. nice shot of the full moon. we still have a few clie clouds but not blocking a view of the full moon just yet. tomorrow more cloud cover, increasing throughout the day. 50s and 60s for afternoon highs. warmest locations around 61 to 62 degrees. tuesday and wednesday the rainfall makes a comeback.

>> people recovering after being hurt last night at the usc stanford football game. as you see here, thousands of fans rushed the field at los angeles memorial coliseum, following the trojans 20-17 upset over the number four ranked cardinals. officials say five people were injured during the game, although it's not clear how and another five were hurt when the crowd ran on to the field. all of the injured were taken to the hospital for evaluation. another allegation has surfaced tonight of a coach bullying a student athlete at rutgers university. this time it involves the football team. the father of freshman defensive back jevon tyree says the coach suffered him after he suffered an injury.

>> jevon says he actually spit in his face. the coach said he has a lisp. i said if you have a lisp, you shouldn't be that close to someone you're arguing with. he then said to jevon, i should head butt you. >> all of this comes after rutgers fired basketball coach mike rice in april when video surfaced of him bullying his players. the university says the incidentinvolving tyree was investigated and the coach apologized. tyree says he plans to transferto a different school next year. cancer survivors may find themselves at risk of premature heart disease because of the cancer treatment. the university of minnesota tracked young cancer survivors and found premature heart disease was more likely among the cancer survivors. for those who survive leukemia the risk was 9% higher. the study suggests doctors manage heart disease risk while

some bay area homeowners recently got a bill that made their jaws drop. flood insurance premiums that suddenly went through the roof because of changes made by the government. ktvu is live on bethel island where several people are trying to figure out what to do now. eric? >> the owners of this home had their premium go up about 500%. they are nine feet below sea level. there's a levy right over here. but the only thing that has changed is how the government

calculates how much homeowners have to pay. the price of a little peace and quiet. >> an old pig farm in 1961. >> reporter: just went way up for mike and sandy parsons. >> i just got this a few days ago. >> what did you think when you saw that bill. >> typo. that's what our insurance agent said, too. it must be a typo. >> reporter: but it wasn't. the flood insurance premium on this 1,500 square foot house on bethel island went from 2100 to $12,600 a year. >> that's for no contents, just the structure. >> reporter: their policy and millions of others through fema's national flood insurance program just got a major overhaul in congress. devastating storms, including hurricane katrina, caused the program to go $24 billion in debt. now a new law to make the program sustainable is coming at a huge cost. on bethel island, the parsons say some of their neighbors have seen their rates go even

higher. >> $40,000 one resident out here. another resident i heard $25,000. >> it cut holes in the garage. >> reporter: meanwhile this couple has made changes. they're told might lower their rate. >> this is the second load of dirt that we've gotten, and i think we have a couple more coming. >> but the reality is, they may have to leave this house they just bought and remodeled a year ago. >> i will not continue to live here if there's no resolution to pay that much money in flood insurance a year. it's not sensible to me. >> reporter: now, fema says that rates have been changed to reflect true flood risks. however, there are some in congress working and pushing to at least delay some of these hikes in some cases. live on bethel island, ktvu channel 2 news. >> more details now on that bill. the homeowner flood insurance afford ability act would delay premium increases up to four years. congresswoman maxine waters of los angeles authored the bill

saying fema's poor implementation of the bill caused unreasonable premium increases. the san francisco chronicle reports 51,000 bay area landowners rely on federal flood insurance. the pediatric unit at keizer hospital in hayward is no more. today was the unit's last day of operation. patients there are being transferred to oakland. the 20-bed facility averaged fewer than four patients a day. nurses who oppose the closure say it will make getting treatment more difficult for children in fremont and hayward. >> communities know that this isgoing to impact them. they pay high premiums. we're going to keep fighting this every day. >> special ped at distributing care will be offered -- pediatric care will be offered -- other news, which is that is a tentative agreement has been reached between the californianurses association and the university of california. the four-year agreement affects close to 1,200 nurses working

at u.c. medical and student health facilities. the contract is still subject to approval by cna. the nurse's union released a statement today saying, quote, it is indeed heartening to see them matching cna's good faith efforts to reach compromises both financially sustainable and honor the nurse's valuable contributions to health clinics. the growing use of tele medicine is helping kids see their doctors without missing a day of school. >> how are you doing, sweetie? >> good. >> your asthma was misbehaving last week? >> yeah. >> that picture a little girl goes to the hospital frequently for asthma and often needs a face-to-face visit with her doctor. in this case, she's doing her follow-up appointment through a tele medicine program at school. >> i think it's pretty cool. it's convenient. i actually like it, especially for me who has a child that's always in and out of the doctor's office. >> the american tele medicine

association says 10 million people were served by virtual house calls over the last year. that number is expected to double as health care reform kicks into high gear next year and doctors are handling more patients. in washington, d.c. the backlash over the affordable care act and the federal website failures continues to cause anger and debate. fresh from house passage of a bill to fix cancelled insurance policies, congressman paul ryan spoke from iowa today to condemn the health care law. >> this law is doing real harm to real people. this law is taking people and disrupting their lives. millions of people are getting cancellation notices. families are seeing their premiums go up. >> house minority leader nancy pelosi admitted the rollout of the federal website was, quote, terrible, but says the problems will be fixed. >> we must remain calm when we talk about the health of our country. affordable care act, as i call it, i always called it,

affordable care act is right up there with social security, medicare, affordable care for all americans is a right, not a privilege. >> president obama met with insurance executives friday in hopes of getting their support to renew policies that were cancelled. the state website covered california will have a planned outage this coming weekend. enrollment will be unavailable from late friday, november 22nd, until monday morning, november 25th. the outage is to perform an upgrade that will benefit small businesses. information pages and the rate calculator will still be accessible. israel's prime minister is warning against iran's potential deal with the u.s. to freeze its nuclear program. he says what's a dream deal for iran is a nightmare for the rest of the world. >> in this case, to reduce the sanctions let out a lot of pressure and iran is practically giving away nothing. it's making a minor concession, which they can reverse in weeks, and you endanger the

now expects numerous offers from interested parties. there are reports the company expects an offer of at least $400 million. some san francisco children today got a chance to learn how to mind their manners. sheila keith teaches etiquette. today some youngsters between the ages of 5 and 8 learned how to behave at the thanksgiving dinner table. she says she's often hired by silicon valley firms to help employees learn how to behave in face-to-face situations. >> i basically think we have a lost generation of etiquette, because the cell phones came in, email came in, no one writes letters anymore. no one makes a phone call. well not on a land line. >> key says social skills are extremely important in business and learning how to be a good host or guest can be the difference between success and failure. coit tower renovations will begin tomorrow and is expected to last five months.

>> a navy ship hit by a malfunctioning drone is back in san diego for repairs. the drone was being used to test the radar tracking system of the uss chancellorville when it suddenly veered out of control and hit the ship. two sail ors also -- sailors also suffered minor burns. scientists at u.c. berkeley are gearing up for tomorrow's nasa mission to mars, set to launch the maven spacecraft to study the red planet. they hemmed build instruments aboard the unmanned craft and designed the flight software. maven stands for mars atmosphere and volatile evolution. the $671 million will help scientists study climb matter change on both planets. >> what a cool project that is. i don't think i've said these words in a couple of months. get out your umbrella. our meteorologist joins us with rain for this week. >> for the past couple of months i've been standing here thinking what will i talk about tonight? i finally have new material.
