coming in later on. temperatures 30s, 40s, and r50s. 37 novato. 47 san jose. 39 walnut creek. yet 50 in san francisco. so slowly increasing clouds today. possibility of rain by this evening tonight. certainly for the north bay. far less amounts as you go south. this will definitely be more of a north bay event. it looks like everybody will be in on that. 30s and 40s and 50s. and increasing clouds throughout the day. san francisco it will cloud up pretty fast. it will not be very warm today. a lot of upper 50s and 60s. there is our system beginning to inch its way closer. the low is moving farther north. there is a lot of cloud cover over here. fog, sun. tomorrow it looks like a better bet. highs today 50s and 60s. here is sal.

steve, for the most part we have a decent commute. over night we have one big problem. i do want to mention that traffic starting off on the east shore freeway does look good and its dry. remember steve mentioned if it does rain tomorrow, you really need to give yourself extra time. if it does rain for the morning commute tomorrow it will be a big deal for the traffic. it will be a lot of slow traffic. it always happens that way. there is no reason to believe it would be otherwise. this is a look at the the bay bridge toll plaza and the traffic looks good. i want to put it on the map here. interstate 880 a deadly collision. breaking news out of oakland where all but one lane of southbound 880 is open. paul chambers is there with more on what chp says might have caused the car to flip on to the other side of the freeway. paul. >> reporter: that is correct. i want to show you the traffic. its down to one lane here. it is slow going in this area. we are up on the highway. i will tell you this is a

pretty interesting track. let's show you right now. the car is basically unrecognizable. we were told just before 1:00 this morning that the bmw is almost unrecognizable. it was drying northbound. chp says it was a high rate of speed. probably 100 miles an hour. it rear ended a big rig also going northbound. and flipped end over end on the southbound lane where it collided with a honda crv. the person in the crv and the person in the bmw both died in this accident. this is what chp had to say. >> the bmw rear ends the big rig and goes end over end. jumps the center divide wall here and goes head on into a honda crv. >> reporter: we are told once again that both cars the big rig and the bmw were driving northbound and that is when the bmw collided, flipped over and hit the southbound car. we are told there is another car involved in that accident

but that person is okay. the driver of the big rig was also okay. the driver of the big rig said to be in his 40s. the driver of the crv in their 70s. they say its too soon to say if alcohol was a factor. they almost continue the investigation and let us know. all we know is it was a high speed race that when the bmw hit the big rig and that is when it happened. the freeway should be shut down like this for another hour or so. we'll stay on top of this. live in oakland i'm paul chamber ktvu channel 2 news. we have new information on the severe weather that swept across the midwest. at least six people are dead in illinois after dozens of tornadoes touched down. reporter andrew spencer has more on the damage and video of one of the deadly twisters. >> reporter: this town of 10,000 people was among the hardest hit as the storms

ripped through washington, illinois. >> a lot of people have a pile of rubble. i don't have anything. its gone. i don't know where it went. >> reporter: taken away by this tornado. the man recording this video prays it engulfs houses not far from his. illinois emergency management says in two communities the storms destroyed 70 homes. rescuers worked sunday to reach people trapped under the rubble. hiding in their basements. >> it did sound like a freight train. i looked over in my backwoods. i saw debris coming over me. >> reporter: broadcast in illinois the news anchors had to cut their coverage short and evacuate. >> we may need to take shelter ourselves. >> we do. >> we need to go off the air. we will be back when we can. >> reporter: in indiana the wind flipped a car into the patio area of this starbucks and blew out the windows of the building. the high winds from st. louis to wisconsin to ohio knocked out power to hundreds of homes

and businesses. for the numerous people who have lost their homes, the focus now will be on recovering what they can and rebuilding. i'm andrew spencer reporting. >> that severe weather in the midwest caused major delays for bay area travelers. early this morning the last of the delayed flights landed at sfo were told everything is back on schedule. people arrives described dark skies and horizontal rain as they were taking off. oakland and san jose international airports are not reporting any delays. for more information on that severe weather in the midwest go to ktvu.com and click on the images tab. time is 4:35. police in santa rosa are asking for the public's help as they investigate a stabbing. the victim 18 years old. alex savidge is joining us live from police headquarters with what we have learned about the suspects. good morning.

>> reporter: good morning, to you. santa rosa police found this 18- year-old victim down in the street last night with several stab wounds and this morning investigators are working hard to try to track down a group of young men who attacked him. it was around 8:00 last night when this all happened. it happened on gardener avenue in the roseland area of santa rosa. the victim was found right behind lawrence cook middle school. the young man was rushed to the hospital although police are telling us his wounds are not considered life threatening. this teenager told police he was attacked by a group of seven or eight people. possible gang members that asked about his affiliation. >> he reported that seven or eight subjects jumped him and challenged him about his gang affiliation and proceeded to punch, kick, and stab him multiple times. >> reporter: the group then drove off in an older model

silver honda odyssey. the young men are described as hispanic all in their late teens or early 20s and a sergeant here with the santa rosa police department told me the department's gang crimes team is investigating this assault and searching for the people who left a teenager hospitalized. live this morning at santa rosa alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. this morning the new fourth bore of the caldecott tunnel is getting its first real test. thousands are heading through the new bore for the first time. this is the first workday commute for the bore. its designed to speed up traffic for the more than 160,000 people who travel through the tunnel every day. there are now four lanes of traffic open. bart management could meet with union leaders as early as today to discuss the expensive mistake in the tentative contract agreement. that mission take involving family leave could cost the

transit agency up to $44 million over the next four years. union leaders point out management has already signed off on the deal. the two sides hope to work out an agreement before the bart board meets to vote on the tentative agreement thursday morning. both sides see little chance of any strike. a state safety committee meets in san francisco today to take another look at a response. that panel is expected to grill members of the state public utilities commission. regulatory group in charge of overseeing pg&e. committee members claim there have been very few safety improvements since the 2010 fire and explosion in san bruno that killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes. tonight the palo alto city council is expected to vote on a camera system that police officers with wear. the cameras will be worn by a select group of officers for accountability and training. the contract will also upgrade

cameras in police cars and fire trucks. the city council is expected to approve the system. tonight the city of palo alto is set to consider expanding the out door smoking ban in the city. right now its illegal to smoke in parks or 25 feet of public entrances. the new rules would ban smoking outdoors, downtown on university avenue and side streets as well. its designed to cut down on secondhand smoke and litter caused by cigarette butts. if you were planning to visit the coit tower in san francisco you will have to wait a few months. it will close today for a five month renovation project. it will under go expensive repairs inside and outside. the $1.7 million is the largest restoration in the towers history. it is set to reopen in mid april. nasa will plan to launch a new mission to mars. it is the first dedicated to

studying the upper atmosphere of mars. scientists and engineers at cal helped design the flight software and build the instruments aboard the spacecraft. they want to know what caused climate change in mars. >> the environment at one point in time in mars was able to support microbial life. but if you look at the mars today its cold, its dry, and we want to know what happened. >> scientists say knowing what changed the martian atmosphere could help them figure out what is changing in the atmosphere on earth and control those changes. coming up new information about a drunk driving case involving a san francisco firefighter. the alleged cover up being investigated by the da's office. and its being called the biggest conference of the year. why 120,000 people are expected to pack the moscone center in san francisco today. we have a deadly crash in

this morning investigators are combing through the wreckage of am deadly plane crash. 50 people were killed when a boeing 757 crashed. it is can'ted to take weeks to identify some of the victims. investigators are looking into whether the airlines financial problems were a factor in the crash. international aid has started to arrive in parts of the philippines after a

devastating typhoon there. many people in remote villages still waiting for food and water ten days after that disaster. more than 5,000 people were killed or declared missing after that storm. the country's energy secretary has pledged to restore power but not until christmas eve. events benefiting the relief effort have been held across the bay area and donations are pouring in. at the church in san rafael they prayed for typhoon victims. some say they have been unable to reach loved ones in the philippines. >> my uncle lost his house. my one one can we didn't hear from for three days. luckily they all survived. >> all of the donations will be shipped to the philippines in the next few days. the john f. kennedy library and museum is launching a new website. the website is called an idea

couple 50s. sacramento is cool at 42. there is your little bit of sun you all get a break and then we will see increasing clouds. it will billion one of the gray day -- it will be one of those gray days. there is rain dragging across tuesday afternoon. and into early wednesday. things looking pretty good here. fog, sun, clouds. there will be more rain to the north. morning sun, fog, afternoon clouds. increasing so it will really start to filter in here. 50s and 60s. i mean the warmest temps will be out toward vacaville and livermore. cloudy with rain on tuesday and turning cooler with showers. clearing on thursday.

and friday looks like wind kicks in. sunny and warmer. but the lows will be tricky depending on wind protected areas. a puppy adopted from the spca this month has become an internet sensation. she writes the blog mamas gone city an has been post -- and has been posting pictures of her child and the puppy sleeping together. the photos have gone viral across the country. they have even ganged their own hash tag. theo part of a litter of 11 puppies at the santa cruz spca. coming up changes to a high school mascot in vallejo. the new tensions being brought up by the mascot name and while many are calling it offensive. and new questions surrounding pryor. what happened on the field that has both the fans and coaches excited. and we have that deadly accident on 880.

the departure is scheduled for sometime around 7:30. repair crews will dry dock the tankers so they can clean off any marine growth. and then it will make its way to texas where it will be recycled. it will be the 45th ship to leave the fleet. the image shows kevin after he was shot to death in 2009. the boy's father said he listened about the image earlier this week and now asking google to take it down out of respect for his son. >> when i see this image the death is really fresh and it brings me back to a lot of memories. >> one technology analyst say it is not very likely that the image will be removed as google typically denies removal

request. we asked google for a comment on the satellite image but have yet to get a response. a high school in vallejo could soon change the name of its mascot. they have been called the apaches for years. the name has long been a source of tension. the mascot can be offensive to native americans. others say it honors the tribe. on wednesday the school board will discuss changing the name. no word to what may replace the mascot. there are new questions about whether or not terrell pryor will have his job back after he recovers from his knee injury. that is because matt had a celebratory victory against -- raiders won with a final of 28- 23. meantime the 49ers also on the road in new orleans. it was a heartbreaking loss. they led by three points late in the fourth quarter but 2349 fourth drew brees was drilled for a big loss. but brooks was hit for a penalty for going high on the
