this viewer photo shows crews recovering a car that ran off the highway with four people inside. it plunged 50 feet down the embankment this afternoon. two women suffered major injuries. it shut down the north bound lanes for 3 hours. >> in oakland crews responded to a two car crash at the highway 24 interchange about 2:00 p.m. this afternoon. one person had to be taken to the hospital and the wet weather is blamed for a string of power outages, including one that shut down a high school. classes at silver creek high schol had -- school had to be chanceled. >> we have live -- canceled. >> we have live team coverage. ktvu's allie rasmus is tracking the problems but we begin with mark tamayo monitoring the changing conditions. >> the burst we had earlier

this afternoon. pushing through the bay area. it is moving to the south and east. closer to modesto and fresno. here is what moved through the bay area today. the latest right now still scattered showers out there as you can see in the north bay to the north. not a lot to show you for san francisco and oakland. fog developing. we have more activity around 101. wet pavement from 101. as far as the storm totals, impressive. 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. this afternoon. san francisco 1.26.

oakland 1.24. morgan hill we are adding to the rainfall now. coming up, where the rain could fall tomorrow morning increasing winds, coming up. the storm caused a number of problems. ktvu's allie rasmus is in the east bay. just received new information on a power outage. >> that's right. one of the trouble spots is on the peninsula. we learned from pg&e there are 2,000 customers without power. they have been without power since 5:20 p.m. and they are sending a crew to fix the problem. but elsewhere in the bay area work crews were kept busy by the rain storm. >> reporter: leaves and winter rain. a soggy combination that clogged drains. further south they worked to

fix a similar problem in san leandro. this afternoon the chp shut down both directions of the highway so pg&e could repair power lines tangled in a red wood tree. across the bay area people bundled up. >> it has been a while. happy to have it. we need it. >> supposed to rain. >> reporter: as the rain came down drivers moved at a fast clip. the weather can create dangerous driving conditions. >> i ride further back from the cars. don't cut lanes. and put on extra gear. >> reporter: this is a picture showing the driving conditions at highway 101. drivers slowing down to plow through water. the driving conditions today

in north korea with no explanation for why. this is the 85-year-old. we were told he was on a plane ready to leave from north korea when authorities took him into custody. ktvu's robert handa is live where he talked to his friends and made contact with his travel partner. >> reporter: there is a lot of anxiety where the man lives. people here are still trying to find out what happened totheir friend -- to their friend. >> reporter: a retirement community. he has lived here with his wife since 2011. in september he took a trip to north korea. >> reporter: was he excited? >> yeah. he had been in the military in korea. >> reporter: what was the intent of the trip? >> to have a vacation. >> reporter: he was traveling with another man but the two

were removed from a return flight october 26. he came home later alone. >> bob didn't say anything other than they pulled him off the plane. and no explanation. >> reporter: still to this point no explanation? >> no explanation. >> reporter: we reached out to him but he would only say there has to be a terrible misunderstanding. i hope threens will see this as a -- north korea will see this as a humanitarian issue and allow him to return soon. his wife, their children and grandchildren are not talking publicly. >> health wise he had to get some pills and it was worked out she would mail them someplace. where? nobody knows. >> reporter: the pills are

blood pressure medications. the state department updated a travel advisory, siting north korea is detaining u.s. citizens. robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. >> another u.s. citizen has been held in north korea for over a year. he was detained for doing missionary work. in 2010 jimmy carter helped win the release of a man who was arrested for illegally entering north korea. and a year earlier bill clinton traveled to north korea to free two american journalists. both who was held for four months. only on 2 deputies are searching 7 locations in foresheets as part of a drug -- four cities as part of a drug bust. eric rasmussen is live to explain why it didn't come as a big surprise to some neighbors. >> reporter: a man who works in

this office park thought he smelled marijuana a month ago. he was right. deputies confirmed they found hundreds of marijuana plants in several rooms in the back of this office behind me. >> reporter: our camera was on scene as deputies were sealing off the entrance to the office. as they brought out bags of marijuana plants here investigators confirm similar searches were playing out at six other locations, homes and businesses. the search warrants all part of the same case. police say it is a six week investigation that started with a tip. >> on these types of cases it is important to get documents and make sure we have the right suspects. you know, so once we present the case to the district attorney there is a solid case against them. >> reporter: police say they have nameps of suspects but haven't made -- names of

suspects but haven't made any arrests. they said they subleased their office to a catering company. >> reporter: deputies and investigators cleared out of here in the last 30 minutes. the next step is to go through all of the evidence and drugs that were gathered at the locations today as they determine how to build their case. live, eric rasmussen, ktvu channel 2 news. one armed robbery suspect is in custody and another on the loose. police say officers chased the suspects down 83 avenue at 11:00 a.m. this morning. one was running through the cafeteria of aspire college preparatory charter school. s.w.a.t. teams searched the school and the neighborhood but the man got away. parents were told to pick up their children. >> pick chem up.

something happened in the area -- pick them up. something happened in the area. >> police say the second suspect took a man hostage at an apartments complex. s.w.a.t. surrounded the building as the suspect tried to sneak out. the man was caught and the hostage was released. teacher is recovering after investigators say he was attacked by a student in a classroom. police say a student stabbed the teacher several times before another student stopped the attack. the suspect fled the scene and the school went into lock down. >> took off his shirt to stop the blood. by the time i got there there were teachers, the principal and everything. >> police say they found a person of interest in the attack. officers are continuing to search for the weapon involved

in the stabbing. the teacher was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. the city of cupertino gave the go ahead for apple's new headquarters. they approved the office building last night. it is duped the space -- dubbed the space shape and approved the tax break by 15%. that could add up to $2 million for the city this year. that building is set to open in 2016. only on 2, someone is using poison to kill trees on her property. >> i felt at risk. >> why investigators think they know who it is but haven't made any arrests. >> plus i talked about the storm that soaked us today. coming up a look at more showers and stronger winds headed our way.

new developments in a deadly shooting outside a san francisco nightclub this weekend. police say they are looking for this man. 23-year-old michael green. investigators say the victim and her friend were involved in a minor fender bender as they were leaving a parking lot sunday. police believe it was green who shot and killed the 23-year-old and wounded her friend the 21- year-old. anyone with information about green's whereabouts call 911. a show of support in san francisco today for a family involved in a crash. today the san francisco asian peace officers association presented him with a check for $8,061. two months ago his son kevin san was killed when a suv

slammed into the vehicle he was in. his mother is still in the hospital and the mother will be used to pay for her medical expenses. >> we care for the community and this was something we had to do. >> the driver of the other vehicle, jennie zhu was arrested, booked and posted bail. police say she was going 80 miles per hour moments before the crash. new at 6:00 p.m. this grove is a battle field for a neighborhood and unfortunately the trees are the casualties. the disputes between homeowners, one dispute led to someone poisoning trees. ktvu's john sasaki talked to the police who are now getting involved. >> reporter: she loves her home. >> i live in a gorgeous small house. >> reporter: four of her

favorite things are trees that are now under attack. >> reporter: the trees are three trees on city property and this tree she planted 18 years ago. she found poison in the soil so she called police. the camera caught only one neighbor. he lives above and ubtrucked by the trees -- obstructed by the trees. >> we are doing a story about the tree dispute. >> i don't know anything about it. >> reporter: officials say he asked them to cut down the trees. in an e-mail he said to the city the trees were real monsters and every year they steal more of the view. >> i think it is clear something is going on here. the trees are dying. >> the investigation has been turned over to the city

today. >> mark tamayo is tracking the storm now that is moving out of the bay area. >> the rain moved out of town but we have moisture in play. clouds and possibility of scattered showers out there. you can see this is the loop over the past three hours. the main action to the central valley and we have snow to talk about in the sierra. above 7,000 feet where we have more snow reported there. a mixture of wet snow there for that part of the sierra. a closer look. lingering activity across the region. nothing too major but enough to wet the roadways around santa rosa. 101. west college avenue. to the south. san francisco and oakland. a few light showers around sfo. the bulk of the activity focused in the south bay, morgan hill and gilroy area.
