. we're live in the south bay where police are investigating the attempted murder of a hotel guest in a top floor suite. police in the south bay have launched an investigation after a female guest was stabbed in a room in a well-known hotel. she was found by another guest. the embassy suites where she spoke with police a short time ago. i'm standing across the street

from the embassy suites hotel next to interfate state 680. the police remain on the scene a patrol car across from the lobby. the main crime scene is on the ninth floor. and investigators say a 30-year- old woman, the only person registered to a hotel room was stabbed several times this evening. several millipedeis patrol cars have been outside. investigators say the woman made her way from the ninth floor to a highway on a third floor -- hallway on a third floor where she was found by another guest who called for help. >> the victim was on the third floor of the hotel. we located her and determined the crime scene was on the

ninth floor. we found evidence that indicated a violent disturbance. >> the hotel lobby remains open. the victim was not part of any events. they have reopened a -- the floors. i checked with police in the last 15 minutes. the victim is still alive but she has significant injuries, she's at a local hospital. they don't believe this was a random attack. they don't believe the public is at risk. now to our coverage of the strong winds in the bay area, and those winds have left some without power for a second night. the strongest winds have passed but the warning remain. bill martin is tracking the

in the north bay. in the east bay the current number is 1500, san francisco only has four and the peninsula two. and 11 customers in the south bay are without power. >> and a red flag warning for the north bay, the winds are very strong, not as strong tonight as last night. i'm finding gusts up to 40 miles an hour right now. the red flag warning until 5:00 tomorrow afternoon. the winds sustained at 28 miles an hour out of the north. as you look in the valley much less wind on the southern end of the bay. on the north end it is very, very windy. when i come back we'll roll the computer model for the wind forecast. when the winds die down it gets cold and a chance of rain in

the 5-day forecast. the winds that ripped through the bay area had firefighters scrambling in napa area. 300-acres burned. the fire started 9:45 when the winds were howling. officials say it's 70% contained. evacuation orders for homes were lifted at 6:00. a downed power line likely sparked the fire. >> in sonoma fire burned 2500 acres. it's started 2:00 this morning. the flames are threatening power plants in the area. this fire is 10% contained. tonight the work to clear all the downed trees and one that became a spectacle today. family and friends of a san jose woman gathered tonight to

remember her. the vigil for andrea was held outside her home in santa clara county. the sheriff department said a deputy was cornered and fired at the woman when she came at the deputy with the knife. >> i don't believe that, she's only 5-foot tall, she's 61. she has ms. she could barely move. the sheriff department sent this picture of the knife and identified the deputy as jennifer gal attribute. the ins -- gallant. the incident lasted 44 seconds. the family said the woman was shot in the head. california released two months of jobless numbers today. the number show california unemployment rate fell to 8.7% in september and unchanged in

october. the state lost 2900 jobs in september ending growth. but bounced back in october. the bay area had some of the lowest numbers in the state, you can see from the map, jobless rates fell below the state average. north korea officially acknowledged it has detained a u.s. citizen but did not kate if it's meryl new man from palo altoment a traveling companion said he was taken off a plane. the swedish embassy is requesting visits. >> been in regular contact with the state department, but we don't have any new information.

a rough morning commute for bart mass years -- passengers. no trains were running. a computer upgrade interfered with the ability to track the trains. >> we could run the trains without knowing where the trains are, how far apart they are. workers reverted back to the old nonupgraded system. were were operating by 7:15, but not until after the peak of the morning commute that service was fully restored. this is just the latest in a series of problems for bart. it's taking a toll on the image. many riders have had enough. the trains may be back on schedule now, but bart is in a lot of trouble. >> if there was an alternative i would be on to alternative. >> many are ready to hop off

yes. i think it was one that was unfriendly to any nonchristian white. university officials say they will begin adding more programs aimed at religious tolerance. the incidents are included in the hate crime case but don't believe it will lead to additional charges. >> john burrows says he's involved in a case of alleged police brutality in san francisco. the incident last friday was caught on video. he plans to sue the police department on behalf of the family of deparis williams. paris said police officer attacked him and three of the neighbors after they tried to stop williams from riding his bike on the sidewalk. caught on camera. an attack against a pedestrian.
