frightening moments for fans just as they were leaving today's raiders game. a woman falls off the third level of the coliseum injurying at least one person. good evening i'm heather holmes. >> and i'm ken wayne. it happen just as hundreds of thousands of fans were leaving the stadium. deborah villalon has been at the coliseum since the start, the woman apparently did not

fall but she jumped. >> reporter: she jumped. she likely would have been killed instantly if not for a good samaritan. a veteran who leaped to break her fall. an ambulance called. >> we're going on the air, just as this was going on. >> reporter: what they witnessed was a young woman on the upper edge ledge plunged some 50 feet to the pavement below. she had climbed up there distraught in a tarp area closed off to fans. fans who spotted her tried to stop her. >> i yelled at her. please don't do it. please don't do it. about 10 times and she jumped.

>> one brave man tried to stop her. he jumped with her. >> reporter: he was knocked down and injured breaking her fall. >> it's happened before. yeah we've had them happen here before. >> reporter: falls from the deck have happened throughout the years. but tonight's incident involving two strangers was sad all the way around. >> our hearts reach out to both the people the woman who jumped and the man who very heroically tried to help her. and you always just wonder why. why would you do that? >> reporter: the unidentified good samaritan told investigators he had paused with a friend with a flag pole and the al davis flame when all of this happened and she jumped to save the woman. he is hospitalized but in

stable condition. and he told investigators he didn't think about what he did. he just did it. an opposite sides of the world, president obama and hussein hurani prayed. but there's sharp criticism from israel and those in power in washington, d.c. there were hand shapes all around when the landmark deal. in exchange the west eases about $7 billion worth of the

can wait until the more serious ones are taken care of. around the east bay branches are still breaking down trees. >> those are big limbs that came down. >> reporter: sonia callahan still has a huge mess in her backyard after a neighbor's tree fell into her house. >> i was thankful that we got this away from the house. we can get the tarps down and we're good to go. >> reporter: a ton of trees to clean up. as crews slowly chip away at the problem. alex sadvidge. those fierce winds that helped fuel a fire in sonoma county subsided giving firefighters a chance on containing that blaze. the mccain fire started friday in the geo terminal. 3,300acres have burned so far. 1,700 firefighters are still on the scene.

those crews have the fire about 65% contained right now. one geo thermal plant cooling tower was destroyed and about one dozen homes still threatened. tomorrow is the first winder spare the -- winter spare the air alert. pollution is expected to rise to an unhealthy level because of a cold still weather patterns. a second offense can result in a $500 ticket. people with no other form of heat are exempt. the new lundburg survey finds prices are up. aaa says the price hike will likely be short lived and is likely due to refinery issues. gas in san francisco is

averaging $3.66, oakland 3.56 and san jose $3.53. while those prices are high, they are still lower than last year. another number going up, the is amount of money people are going to spend during the holidays. shoppers will be looking for deals and that chains such as wal-mart, tart and kohl's have already lowered their profit outlooks to compensate for holiday discounts. a navy pilot received a hero's welcome today as he returned home from service in afghanistan. hundreds of people lined the streets to welcome home lieutenant nathan scott as he returned to his danville family home. scott says he was surprised by all the fanfare. he thanks the crowd. and wants everybody to remember the troops still on the ground

new video tonight that shows the end of a police chase in oakland. as you can see here the driver of a car hit a fire hydrant sending water shooting up 30 feet into the air. this chase started around 7:00 tonight and ended up here at 18th and wood streets. police say the chase began after the car was used in a robbery in the lake merit area. no one was arrested. an east bay community is mourning the loss of a long

time coach and teacher. we learned today that the man killed on interstate 680 yesterday morning was 76-year- old john web. he was trying to help direct traffic after a crash on the busy interstate. ktvu's eric rasmussen talked to web cease colleagues about the man they called unselfish -- web's colleagues about the man they called unselfish. >> reporter: after a crash on 680 saturday morning the highway patrol says web got out of the corvette he was riding in to try to direct traffic away from the wreck. >> that was him. getting out of the car to help somebody. that's the way he was on campus. >> reporter: former and current john f. kennedy football high school coach is peter michaletos and damewood talked to us about web.

announced two rhodes scholars are from california. miles untereiner will study at stanford and zarko perovic from uc berkeley. since this program started two years ago, five graduates have been released and landed jobs in the high tech industry. this month the program began a new session in los angeles. founders of the program believe that when inmates are released they need the tools. california is the worse run state in the union for the third year in a row. the website looks at a number of factors to calculate all 50 states. california took a big hit with the housing crisis.

california placed at the bottom due to debt per capita the 20th highest. and the second highest unemployment rate but a bit of good news. california has the 11th highest per capita income the best run state according to the survey is north dakota. organizers of the reno air races say they must race half a million dollars or possibly cancer next year's event. the championship races have had problems since 2011 when a plane crashed into box seats killing 10 spectators and the pilot. executives remain optimistic that they can reach their cash goal and hold the races next september. aircraft maker boeing is looking for a new location to build its new 777 jets and california may be a possibility. the company began soliciting bids from about a dozen locations to build the new 777x plane. long beach is among the dozen cities competing for the deal. boeing says it hopes to make a final decision on a new

location by early next year. a new survey by meteorologists could play a survey again. the american neurological society asks if they believe in global warming. 50% said yes. the search for the dead continues in the philippines more than two weeks after typhoon hiayan hit. the death toll has climbed to 5,200 people with many others still missing. more than 4.4 million people are said to be displaced by the disaster. efforts to help the victims of the typhoon continue today across the bay area. cara liu tells us a benefit concert was held tonight in

it's a this [ bleep ] plane police boarded a spirit plane to remove an unruly passenger who claimed to have a bomb on board. they say the passenger started arguing immediately. the patient was take ton a psychiatric hospital to be evaluated. police say he could face federal charges. pope francis put some relics on public display for the very first time. during mass he brought out a bronze box with tiny bone fragments who were thought to be those of the first pope, saint francis. many scholars dispute the fact that they belong to saint francis. the king of pop's former doctor conrad murray said

[ male announcer ] that's great, big world friendly. ♪ happening now a 61-year-old veteran from stockton is being called a hero after he tried to catch a woman who sheriff's deputies say jumpeded from the third deck at the oakland coliseum. the woman jumped about 15 minutes after the game ended. the good samaritan was also knocked down injured breaking her fall. the woman who fell some 50 feet was knocked unconscious. she's in the hospital tonight

arrested a volunteer. the boys and girls club says it's received an outpouring of support since that safe was stolen. a santa rosa teen is in critical condition tonight at oakland's children's hospital. after he was found laying unconscious with a head injury. the 15-year-old was found bleeding at montgomery high school in santa rosa. it's unknown how he was hurt if he was a victim of a crime or hurt in an accident. however they do say that he was at school several weeks ago when his friend was injured doing some pakur moves. this week marks 12 years since a young east bay woman lost her life on her birthday and left a legacy that keeps on giving. it was on thanksgiving that carrie gordon was killed. the woman was killed by a

speeding van that crossed into her lane when she was going to work. in the months that followed her legacy was born. >> when carrie passed away we starletted getting money from our patrons. i don't know the total amount but it was in the thousands. we were thinking okay what should we do with this money. >> reporter: her parents formed the karen gordon scholarship for two recipients. this year christie scott will receive one to help pay for nursing school. her dad says she would have loved knowing that she could help people even though she is gone. happening now, troubles may lie ahead for millions of travelers. the storm started in the southwest late last week and is already blamed for the deaths of eight people. today much of new mexico, texas and parts of oklahoma were placed under national weather service winter storm warnings until tomorrow. in oklahoma city a driver with a dash cam was behind an suv that lost control. take a look. that suv spins out, rolls over,

landing in a ditch. now fortunately no one was hurt in that crash. volunteers stood curb side collecting turkeys and other donations. the foundation hopes to collect 1,000 turkeys so it can meet the goal of serving 4,000 meals on thanksgiving day. >> it is important for us because we have to share our good with others. that's exactly what we're doing. >> st. anthony's is accepting turkeys through thanksgiving. organizers say they also need nonparishable food and toiletries. this year has been tough with fewer donations and an even greater need. >> you may notice some changes at the grocery store when you go shopping this week for thanksgiving dinner. a new federal labeling policy went into effect yesterday. that requires packages of meat to include labels listing the

we are wrapping up a very nice weekend out there. lots of sunshine, the winds have backed off and with

decreasing winds. temperatures dropping rapidly over the past few hours. here is a look at the current numbers out there. it is 48 degrees in mountain view. san jose 50. look at that number coming out of napa already in the upper 30s. 39degrees. they'll be back down to sub freezing first thing tomorrow morning under mostly cloudy skies. we've been talking about a storm. you can see all the rainfall and ice covering a good portion of the south. you can see this storm covering the area a couple of days ago. here's the forecast model tomorrow with increasing rain coverage still across the south. then we'll take this into tuesday because a very busy travel week and lots of rainfall to the east. here's a snowfall pattern. this again is on tuesday. gradually the coverage backs up by wednesday morning and into the afternoon hoursful we'll keep an eye on the travel forecast over the next few days. for tonight we do have this clear and cool.

tomorrow patchy morning frost. san francisco still in the clear in the forecast for tomorrow. temperatures in the 40s on track to reach lower 60s once again with hazy sunshine by 3:00. then next week a sun cloud mix. we're still tracking the chance of a few showers with the forecast models really backing off on those chances. what's happening is a stable air pushing into the region acting like a cap or lid on the atmosphere. as a result we have a haze. this pattern does not change too much. as a result for tomorrow night we have that winter spare the air alert in place for monday night. overnight lows, first thing tomorrow morning. san francisco 46. you definitely want to bundle up once again. patchy fog could be forming around the delta region tomorrow. this area of low pressure to the north of hawaii will be marching close tore the coast on thursday. but for tomorrow hazy sunshine, a dry weather pattern with that fog really developing in the central valley. this system approaches but the

main track will be heading toward southern california. that will be on thursday for thanksgiving. most of november has been dry but we're watching that system as we head into thursday and here's the forecast model shaping up like this. should be coming up but i can show you the main action remains offshore to the west about 200-miles to the west. forecast highs for tomorrow showing you 60s for santa rosa, san francisco and hayward. half-moon bay right around 60 degrees. here's a look ahead with your partly sunny skies. will break out thursday thanksgiving forecast for tomorrow. for thursday more days out. as you can see that chance of a shower. i will say the shower chances really coming down for thanksgiving with partly cloudy skies by the afternoon hours. with your weekend always in view. day six and day seven should be dry. just patchy morning fog.

but heather and ken we will have to keep it on the model. >> thank you, mark. >> we'll be watching it. new research suggests sugary drinks are linked to a certain form of cancer in women. scientists followed 23,000 women and found those who drank more than four servings of soda and other sweetened drinks had a 78% greater risk of developing estrogen dependent type one indometreal cancer. the risk is higher after menopause. family and friends of seattle seahawkses running back marshawn lynch and jackson handed out food bags of food. they distributed the food on a first come first serve basis.
