finally this car crashes into a ditch. when police get up to the car, they discovered the driver was 11 years old. >> he wasn't under the influence. he couldn't see over the wheel. >> actually, they called his mom and she said she's been learning to drive for the last six months and she's been allowing him to drive for the last six months. the mom only bought the car about a month ago and now he's in the custody of the center for juvenile offenders. >> we know cats get stuck in some precarious places in cat is no different, stuck 50 feet up on a roof near downtown los angeles. a dangerous place to be, even if

you got noon lives. if you got a cat 50 feet in the air, who do you care? the specialized mobile animal rescue team. they come in with creative ways to rescue this cat because the fire department couldn't do it. they brought up the ladder and it spoobd the cat and the cat ran away. they were setting up a dual technical raised system. they've got their harnesses and ropes. not one rescuer but two head down to this narrow little rooftop, that you can also see is quite steep. eventually they use the little animal rescue tools. >> animal grabber. >> the animal grabber. and that are able to just loop it around the little cat. you hear just a little squeak from him and he's done. he's rescued, out of the gutter and back to safety.

no any longer 50 feet up in the air. listen to the cheers as they rescue this little kitty. >> a couple of guys up to no good. >> it's clearly obvious these guys have something going on with them that's not exactly normal. >> the story behind the strange scene. and two youtube channels team up to make one slick video. >> now you can see the true precision. >> the trick shot shooting shot in slow we're following breaking news, a bart train that was stuck inside the oakland hills tunnel has been pushed to the rockridge station. the train from orinda became stuck in the oakland hills because of a brake issue. those people were stuck inside
9:39 am
the tunnel for quite some time and now that train has arrived at the rockridge station. the people who were inside that train are on the platform. the previous -- previously the fire department and the police had oakland station had removed everyone from the platform so these are the people that were inside the tunnel. oakland fire department and medic units are treating some people who are complaining of smoke inhalation, but it looks like everyone is still there on the platform. again, bart service on the pittsburgh line has been stopped due to this issue. earlier we also saw fire crews waiting on the orinda side just in case the train came up on that end. this morning it looks like -- i just got handed that 10 patients are being treated per the oakland fire department for various medical issues resulting from this train that became stuck inside the tunnel, the oakland hills tunnel, after a brake issue. what happened was the train -- one of the wheels looked -- locked up essentially and spewing smoke and some of the
9:40 am
smoke came into the train. several people on social media said they had smoke inside their car. others were saying that rescue trains were on the way. we found out as much from the authorities as we did from twitter and social media. and, by the way, if you do have any sort of social media photos or pictures or information, please tweet us@ktvu or you can find me on twitter. i'm also monotarring my twitter feed now. so what you're looking at is the pictures of those stuck in the train. they have now been made out to come out to the platform at the rougeridge station. this all started when a train had medical issues inside the tunnel. one of the things that we know is that oakland and orinda fire sent several fire units to both sides of the tunnel and oakland firefighters did, indeed, board those trains on what they call a rescue train to eventually get this train that was stuck down to the orinda station. we still have some more information here that i'm
9:41 am
reading. i just want to let you know that some people were reporting that the conductor on the train was saying that there was several medical emergencies on the train. you can see here for yourself that the medic units are attending the people who are on that train. it is unclear what the other people are dog. i think they're just going to wait around. and bart has told people to find other ways of getting around for the time being. again, just to recap. a stuck bart train is now out of the tunnel. the train has been pushed or somehow moved to the rockridge station, and that's where the people are right now. the system is not running. let's go to a bart spokesperson. who is on the phone. can you just recap what happened and any other details i may have left out? good morning. >> sure. at 8:15 we had a train where the parking brake became engaged, and that caused light smoke and this train was in between orinda and rockridge, and the white smoke caused
9:42 am
people to not feel well so we got the orinda station completely shut down. we have ems at both the orinda station tabbed rockridge station and we sent empty trains from both sides, one from the orinda side and one from the rockridge side to make sure the passengers have the assistance that they needed. i'm told the train that was disabled is moving on its own power and moving towards rockridge so it sounds like the passenger also be let off at rockridge where we have ems waiting for us there. all trains on the pittsburgh line are completely stopped because of this log jam. we have also had a lot of passengers, and i'm at orinda. there are hundreds of passengers standing around me just waiting to be able to get back on to a train. the priority here, of course, is to get the services needed for those that are not feeling well, get the train out of the way, and then start in the service recovery mode. we very much apologize for the ongoing service problems that
9:43 am
our passengers have been experiencing this entire year. >> you can't see this obviously, but i'm looking at picture from our news chopper 2 of the train, and it apparently has made its way to the rockridge bart station. and the people who are on that train are now on the platform. how long do you suppose -- obviously they're going to treat the people who are injured, and i do see some medics out there. how long do you suppose this is going to jam the system and the people who are stranded, would it be best for them to find another way to get around? >> it fends. if we are able to move that disabled train completely out of the way, we'll finally be able to start moving trains through the berkeley tunnel which is key to getting restoration in progress. the problem with the orinda and rockridge station is we need to keep the platforms clear, we can't open them up just for safety reasons so that the ems can have the access they need. and so the people that are stuck at auto rinda will likely
9:44 am
be stuck there for some time until everything is completely cleared, safe, we have all of our passengers, the aid that they need. so hang tight. i know it is frustrating. it is the middle of the week. it hasn't been a fun ride at least this past ride, but we're working at it. we is service personnel deployed. we're really trying to get this up and going and safety first. >> and that is bart's spokes woman. thank you. as you can see, the train has made it out of the tunnel and people were stuck on it for quite some time. it was a brake issue and some of the smoke from the smoking brakes, if you will, came into the passenger compartment, made some people feel ill. from what we know, 10 people have been treated by the oakland fire department and we have reports that the injuries are not life-threatening, but people have been -- some people have been treated. the rest of the people at the bart station, it looks like they have been allowed to get off that platform. so when news chopper 2 first pulled up, it was a platform full of people and now it looks like the fire department and a handful after people and there
9:45 am
are people who are inside the train. let's go live to ktvu reporter brian floor whose is at the bart station. brian, what can you tell us? >> reporter: i want to set the scene first. you can see several oakland fire department crews here waiting for the passengers to get off board. we have spoken to some of them. they say it was very scary experience, a lot of them suffering from smoke inhalation. we saw an oakland fire department person wheel a stretcher out just behind the staircase there so we're not sure if they're taking one of the victims there. i do want to talk to samantha who was on this train a moment ago x you describe the scene and what happened this morning? >> it was pretty hectic, a lot of non-communication from bart and you got to see the community come together on bart and take care of each other. there were doctors that took care of the medical needs and other people trying to make light and joke around. >> reporter: describe the smoke and the point where the train stopped. i understand it was a pretty
9:46 am
hard stop. >> yes, it was a hard stop. people got a little jostled, and then there was a lot of smoke. it was gray, not black, but still a lot of smoke, and people were having a really hard time believing, -- breathing, and then the power went out for a couple seconds. without the communication of the operator, it was really hard. >> reporter: we have heard that quite auto bit from other passenger whose say it wasn't like a half an announcement from bart telling you what is going on and the situation. talk to us about how some of the people came together helping some of the people who i guess suffered from smoke inhalation. >> reporter: they made an announcement for doctors and nurses, and before that there was kind of an announcement within the bart people saying, hey, is there a doctor or a nurse? can you help? and they would rush over and stop helping. there was one lady who couldn't speak english and we found somebody who could and there were a lot of people just with the people on bart.
9:47 am
>> reporter: thank you very much. we have seen a lot of passengers shaken up. obviously being stuck in the tunnel without electricity for a short period of time and also seeing the smoke as well a very frightening experience for many bart passengers. from what we understand, a lot of them are just moving forward a lot of oakland fire department officials are still here. we'll keep you updated and have a live report as well on the ktvu news here live from rockridge, brian flores. no and ktvu will continue to follow this breaking news and bring you important updates live on the air. you also get updates on ktvu.com as well as on twitter and facebook. we'll have a complete live update on this story coming up as brian mentioned at noon. for now, we'll go back to you.
