it's situation. take a look. it's at the gas station. it all started after deputies were head on a lie-speed chase town 98th avenue before the vehicle lost control and took out two gas bumps. some residents say that initial crash woke them up. >> that's when i woke up my family and said let's go. it blew up another additional second time and that's when theman hole went up -- the manhole went up. >> reporter: investigators say the deputies pulled the suv over at 98th and d streets as part of the dui task force. when the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver sped off, driving a mile down 98th before he lost control and ran into the gas pump. >> the irony of the situation, the deputy who initially has to

do the stop as part of the avoid campaign now has to save this driver from his burning vehicle. >> the fire chief says the attendant at the gas station hit off the switch to prevent more burning. the people who were evacuated were allowed to return home. as for the driver, he was taken to a nearby hospital where he has a possible broken leg. the passenger will not face charge. i will tell you okay back out here live, fire crews are out here taking air quality checks to make sure there's no additional gas in the air. so far no issues whatsoever. they reopened the street within the last 45 minutes. things seem pretty safe here at this time. live in oakland, paul chambers, ktvu channel 2 news. solano county investigators are searching for four men in connection with a violent home invasion robbery. around 6:00 last night,

investigators say four masked men burst into a home on poplar road outside of vacaville. police say five people were inside the house. one was shot and injured. two others were beaten. the suspects are described as two white men and two african- american men, all about 6 feet tall. they were seen driving off in a late 1990s, silver camry. happening today -- arraignment scheduled for a san francisco woman accused of causing this crash, a crash that killed a 16-year-old. prosecutors say jenny zu was driving up to 80 miles an hour when she hit a minivan on pine street in september. the crash killed kevin san, a junior at lincoln school. seriously injured his mother and sister. zu faces manslaughter. if convicted, she could get up to seven years in prison. san francisco's city attorney has joined the investigation into the partial collapse of the house in the twin peaks area monday night. the home is owned by mel murphy who recently served on san

francisco's building inspection commission. the house was being renovated at the time. the chronicle says the city attorney has sent a letter to murphy indicating this case could end up in court. there is a new report calling for change in the chicken industry pause of a salmonella outbreak. tara moriarty is live in walnut creek with more on what this report is saying needs to happen. tara? >> reporter: well, the people who wrote this report, they would like inspectors to drop by chicken facilities unannounced to test. they would also like them to be more adamant about releasing some of these -- communicate the outbreaks to consumers through these public health alerts as soon as possible. these are some of the proposals outlined in the report. this most recent salmonella outbreak is linked to foster farms changen with about 4 --

chicken with 400 people getting sick in 23 states. the seven strains are particularly toxic. people have been hospitalized at tubl the rate expected a previous outbreak happened last year. it made 134 people sick in 13 states. one consumer we spoke to said the outbreak is scary. >> when i shop, i always buy something that has organic or -- i want something that i know is gonna be safe or they are free-range chingens. i'm hoping they will be safer. >> reporter: the report's author says when more than 500 people get sick from two outbreaks asoak social -- associated with chicken, it's clear those standards are not promoting public health. all of this comes as the usda is revamping how it deals with salmonella. our reporter is trying to get more information in washington, d.c. to try to get her take on

why she felt compelled to write this report. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. police in east palo alto are searching for a driver who hit a man in a crosswalk and then took off. it happened last night just after 6:30 on university avenue and running mead street. police say the man suffered broken bones and a possible head injuries. they are asking anyone who saw the crash to call them. vallejo is taking another step to remove blight in the city. the neighborhood law program first targeted abandons homes and squatters. now the city has sent letters notifying hotels to clean up, cracking down on drunkenness and prospy -- prostitution. some runners and people near christie field say that area is too dangerous. they say the paving work made

the surface smoother. 7:09. the california public utilities commission meets today about the future of a controversial pipeline in san carlos. the board will consider how long pg&e should be fined for allegedly delaying and misleading the commission about the safety of that 84-year-old pipeline which carries natural gas through the pipeline. the fines range from $6 million to $17 million. the commission will consider whether to allow crews to restore that pipeline to its maximum pressure. the cpcu is expected to approve a new area code for the bay area. the commission says all of the numbers for the 415 area code, they will be used up by october 2015. so a new 628 area code listen added. if you already have a 415 area code, you get to keep the

fire crews are cleaning up after a huge fire raced through a strip mall south of downtown los angeles late last night. investigators say the fire started inside the superdiscount store in hawthorne. it was really going. it did spread to other nearby stores and then the roof of one of those nearby stores collapsed. more than 100 firefighters worked to put out the flames. fortunately, there were no injuries. the cause of that fire remains under investigation. a south bay church has been ordered to pay damages in connection to a molestation case. a civil jury in san jose found the church on the hill was partly negligible even though they let the man go for inappropriate contact with children. he was still recommended to a

daycare center. and that's where he allegedly molested three girls. woodhouse, the daycare center and the church will pay more than a million dollars in damage, with the church responsible for 17%. he was sentenced to 30 years to life for abusing children at daycare programs. dozens of bay area volunteers are helping santa claus make christmas special for families of low income in san francisco. glide is gearing up for the annual toy giveaway. and they are sorting through all kinds of toys from stuffed animals to games to basketballs. >> my wife and i have donated to glide for six or seven years. we've got a little girl of our own now. we tell her how important christmas is. >> glad is hoping to pass out about 8,000 gooddy bags on

good morning. right now traffic is still busy and we're getting to the peak of the morning commute. so you will see some slow traffic. i want to mention right now as we go to the live pictures that the traffic is still slow on highway 4 but it is getting better through the construction zone. it's slower now, though, as you drive from 68 from benicia to walnut creek with most of that traffic slow traffic being in pleasant hill and walnut creek. also, the morning commute looks slow at the bay bridge toll plaza. this definitely looks like the peak at about 20 minutes' delay -- 20-minute delay and then another ten getting into the city. you're looking at a half-hour to get into the city. if you are driving in marin county, southbound 101 has begun to slow, not only in novato but also driving into san rafael. on the peninsula, 101 at 92 is slow across the bay. 880 is slow heading south. now let's go back to the desk. if you shop at target stores, you are gonna want to know this -- millions of credit card numbers used at the store chain have been stolen.

ktvu's janine de la vega is joining us live from san jose to tell us how to find out if you are at risk. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. well, this target behind me in the cambria neighborhood opens up in about a half-hour. we've been talking to people who shop here and they are dealing with the stress of holiday shopping. they don't want to have to think about identity theft or their account being drained. now, target officials say that up to 40 million accounts may have been compromised. if those have resolved the issue and is partnering with a third party forensic firm, customers who shopped from thanksgiving day all the way through december 15th are at risk. the information compromised includes customer names, credit or debit card numbers, the card's expiration date and the three-digit security code. >> i shop there all of the time. i just have to check on my

bank. make sure everything is okay. >> i'm disappointed it's so easy for somebody to be able to do that with a company like target. >> reporter: the seat cret service is investigating how the unauthorized access occurred. a silicon valley expert said it could have been a skimming device attached to a credit card reader. he says it's more likely computer hackers put malware on systems or someone cracked into target's central server. target says this does not affect online shoppers. target officials said, your trust is a top priority for target. we deeply regret the inconvenience this may cause. the privacy and protection of our best information is a matter we take very seriously and we've worked swiftly to resolve the incidents. but target says they still want customers to monitor their accounts for any fraudulent activity and remember, this is an issue -- this isn't just an

issue at targets here. it's happened nationwide at all targets. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> when you go out shopping, the experts recommend using a credit card instead of a debit card because there's less risk if the card is stolen. you should also, they say, check your accounts a lot. and especially after there's been a breach. they say you should also change your pain number regularly, especially if you think your information may have been compromised or stolen. a senate committee is calling for more security of the consumer data. this happened after it was revealed information brokers sell targeted lists including the victims of rape, seniors with dementia, people with hiv  and a.i.d.s. and also police officers, including their home addresses. senators on the committee say more investigation is needed into how those data brokers get their information and who they

are selling it to. the family of 13-year-old jahi mcmath is still praying for a miracle. last night they held a prayer vigil at paradise baptist church in oakland. she went into cardiac arrest after what was supposed to be routine surgery to take out her tonsils at oakland's children's hospital. doctors declared her brab dead but her family has taken -- brain dead but her family has taken legal action to keep her alive. >> i just want you to pray for her. >> family members filed a formal request to get the girl's medical records on tuesday but they've not received them. the hospital says it's policy not to release a medical record while that patient is in the hospital. a consumer advocacy group has called for an investigation into b.a.r.t.'s board meets in two hours to discuss the -- investigation. b.a.r.t.'s board meeting in two hours to discuss the investigation into the retiree

medical insurance programs. this problem comes as they continue to work on the family leave clause that b.a.r.t. management was mistakenly left in the signed contract. and the labor dispute between a.c. transit and the drivers may be coming to an end. ac transit says it's close to reaching an agreement. keep in mind, there were two othertive deals -- other tentative deals that were rejected by the rank and file. they are on a 60-day cooling off period. that will end on sunday. negotiations are expected to continue through the rest of the week. the big fire in big sur may be contained if the winds stay calm. the wildfire in big sur now 74% contained. it's burned more than 840 acres and destroyed 22 buildings

including a dozen homes. >> we've had very, very little rain. we have some other conditions such as sudden oak death in this part of the forest. >> the fire started on monday near a hiking trail that forced the evacuation of a hundred people. while the cause is still under investigation, officials are looking at the possibility it was started by an illegal camp fire. a community meeting is scheduled for 4:00 this afternoon. the bay area does not have a spare the air alert this morning. for the first time in a week and a half. the alert lasted a record 11 straight days because of cold, stagnant weather patterns. the wind changed overnight. that's pushing out a lot of the air pollution we've had lately. however, parts of the bay area remain under a wind advisory. happening today -- the bay area is saved, once again, by another young and adorable crime fighter.

northbound 85 slow after 17. 101 is a little slow. so definitely we have the slowdowns. they are just noes at -- not as deep as they normally are. it won't be a complete clear drive in the san jose. as we look at 101, it's slow before and after 280. it's slow as you pass the airport and head into sunnyvale. no problems by the way in the santa cruz mountains with a little bit of slow traffic coming down to los gatos. let's talk about the 237 commute. it is getting better now. even from the last time we saw it. but some bunching up here at zanker road. at the bay bridge toll plaza, we do have a back july that stretches to about 15 minutes. now let's go to steve. the mostly clear out there. the system has produced a little bit of snow up in the sierra. it will produce rain in southern california. we get the cleaner air. that's about it. we get the breeze, too. let's take a look at really bad rain numbers. we've been talking about the

calendar year that will be the driest ever. we should have -- usually december, this is the wettest month of the year. normally, oear 4 1/2 inches of rain -- over 4 1/2 inches of rain. so far, .39. that's 91% below average. july, that's the rain year through june, december. we should have over 9 inches of rain. we've had 2. bad. nothing on the 10, 15-day outlook, really bad. you can see some of the snow in the sierra, very light dusting or two or maybe an inch or two. southern california, looking for a little bit of rain. the key for us is that this system is ushering in cleaner air, thank you, thank you, finally, finally. also the breeze kicking in would be a cooler pattern today. windy at times. 30s an 40s -- 30s and 40s. by tonight, we'll see some pretty cold readings popping up. watch the rain beginning to worm. rain down there if you are heading there. also up in the sierra.

chief about how things can change. that's coming up at 8:30. 8:06. police in east palo alto, they are searching for a driver who hit a man in a crosswalk last night and then drove off. it happened about 6:30 on university avenue and runny mede street. police say the man suffered broken bones and a possible head injury. if you have any information, get in contact with the police. marin county officials think the bank robbery suspect wounded last week by a sheriff's deputy is the so- called cotton ball bandit. authorities say the suspect robbed a bank of the west in novato last wednesday. a sheriff's deputy then chased him into san rafael. investigators say the suspect got out of a car and flashed a gun at the deputy who then opened fire. authorities say the cotton ball bandit is 60-year-old christopher wooten of larkspur. he's in jail on more than $2 million bail. the sonoma county sheriff's department launched an internal investigation to find out if

anything could have been done to prevent the death of a woman. now, 70-year-old renee bunch was found dead at her guerneville home sunday afternoon, two days after she called 911 complaining of breathing prok bleing. two deputies who responded to the call friday morning broke the window out of her trailer but they left a note instead of going inside. those deputies say they didn't see anyone, they thought the trailer was empty. well, vallejo is taking another step to try to remove blight in the city. the law program first targeted abandoned homes and squatters. now it's reporting that the city is sending letters notifying hotels that they need to clean up. complaints are growing about a popular pathway at crissy field. that area offers some of the most scenic views in the city. runners and people jogging with their pets say the marina

boulevard path has become too dangerous. they say while paving work this spring made the surface much smoother, they also say there are few safety markings on the road to guide people and distract tourists from making the area unsafe. the california public utility commission meets today and talk about the future of a controversial pipeline in sap carlos. they will consider how much it should fine pg&e for allegedly misleading the commission about the safety of the 84-year-old line which carries natural gas through the city. proechals for fines range for almost $6 million to more than $17 million. the commission is also tu to consider whether to allow the utility to restore the pressure on that line to the maximum level. also at this morning's meeting, the cpuc is expected to approve a new area code for the bay area. the commission says all of the numbers for the 415 area he code will be used by october

2015. they are adding another 628 area code. if you will have a 415 aria keed, you get to keep the number. this will be assigned to new numbers in san francisco in parts of marin county. the future of a music festival in napa is now on deadline. a new group of local investors has stepped forward with a proposal to bring back the bottle rock music festival. but the investors have been given one month to settle the huge debt left by the original organizers of the festival which took place earlier this year. a deal would set the stage for the next bottle rock music festival at the napa valley expo in 2014. and the san jose high school band who was the victim of an armed robber is expected to receive a generous donation. the bin goep site is donating $5,000 to the marching band. that's roughly the same amount that was stolen last week. the band has already received $15,000 in other donations.

a new report is calling for change within the chicken industry. the authors of the report say the usda should be held more accountable. they want inspectors to make unexpected unannounced visitors to -- visits to the processing centers. consumer reports recently tested more than 300 store brought chicken breasts and found bacteria in almost everyone. >> what this demonstrates, we just haven't gotten it right yet and that we do need to

rethink the way that we try to address salmonella contamination in the food supply. the most recent salmonella linked to foster farms chicken has sickened 400 people in 23 states since october. a diplomatic dispute between the united states and india creating tensions between two long-time allies. that's because india's console general in new york was arrested and strip-searched accused of submitting false documents to get a visa for a housekeeper. the marshal said theyed the same procedures they did -- they followed the same procedures they do with all arrests. >> she's not an ordinary citizen. she's a diplomatic with immunity and should never have been treated this way. >> the government of india has responded. they are taking down security barriers outside of the american embassy in new delhi. former nba star dennis

rodman is flying to north korea. he's helping to train the national basketball team there and he is seeing his friend, north korean leader, kim jung un. here's dennis rodman being swamped by reporters during a stop in beijing. his visit comes days after un's uncle was executed, accusing of overplotting to overflow the north korea government. this is dennis rodman's third visit to that country. a former firefighter for the u.s. forest services is facing arson and murder charges in connection with a massive wildfire in shasta county. he pleaded not guilty yesterday to setting the 8,000-acre clover fire. he was arrested on tuesday. the fire claimed the life the 56-year-old brian stanley henry last summer. he was found dead in his burned- up motor home. the palo alto fire department is gonna undergo some major changes.

the daily news reports, the city expects a dozen firefighters to leave that department in the next year and a half. many of those departing firefighters work in leadership positions. now, typically, there are only two -- two to four retirements each year. the department has already increased its overtime budget by 56% in an an effort to train firefighters to take over. >> a budget with bipartisan support is headed to the white house to get president obama's signature. the senate approved the spending plan by a 64-36 vote yesterday. the house overwhelmingly approved it last week. now, it restores 63 billion in across the board sequester cuts. there are new fees on airlines, new pension requirements for future federal employees and a 1% reduction in cost of living adjustments to working age military retirees. well, today, a city panel in palo alto will review a request from tesla motors. the company wants to put up two

big signs outside of its showroom on el camino real. palo alto right now has a rule banning many signs of the size because of concerns they will be eyesores. tesla claims the new signs will actually improve the look the of the area. metering lights will start to operate along highway 101 in southern marin county by 2015. transportation officials from several agencies have been trying to figure out a way to unclog busy freeway traffic. now they've decided phasing in the lights at the end of freeway onramps may be the best answer. the first phase calls for meters on 10 northbound highway 101 ramps between sausalito and sir francis drake boulevard. 8:18. let's head out to sal castanedo who is watching the roads. how are things looking, sal? >> things are improving. right now, we are looking at the commute on the westbound bay bridge and just as we suspected as we get closer to

good on the san mateo bridge. i do want to mention something that the chp is responding to. stanley boulevard at murietta boulevard, there is a school bus crash. very minor injuries. the chp always investigates school bus crashes. again, this is stanley boulevard near eta boulevard. 580 is now slow coming out of san leandro all the way out to lakeshore. but i would still use it instead of 880 which is backed up all the way down to 238 because of earlier problems. it's 8:32. let's go back to the desk. federal officials investigating a major security breach at target stores nationwide. this could affect you if you shop there recently and used a credit or debit card. janine de la vega joining us live from san jose and you just talked to a customer who thinks she may have been a victim. >> reporter: yeah. she stopped at this -- shopped

at this target in the cambria neighborhood during that period. she says three days ago, somebody tried to use her credit card number. now, target says it wants people to monitor their card activity. target says up to 40 million card accounts may have been affected by this data breach. the information involved, names, debit card numbers, the expiration date and the three- digit security code. secret service is investigating how this could have happened. target is targeting with a third-party firm could on duct an investigation. credit card companies have been notified of the incident. >> i did shop on black friday. i just found out that someone tried to spend $600 in nevada. i wonder if that's related at all. that could be -- that would be interesting to find out we got

an alert. they called and they knew that it was not like us to go to nevada and spend that kind of money. >> reporter: target officials put out a statement which says your trust is a top priority for target and we deemly -- deeply regret the inconvenience this may have caused. the privacy and protection of our guest information is a matert that we take very seriously and we've worked swiftly to resolve the incident. target says this appears to have only affected those who shopped in a store not online. officials say customers can still use their cards to shop at target because the unauthorized access happened during that period that i talked about which is november 27th through december 15th. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega. >> when you go shopping, use a credit card instead of a debit card because there's less risk if it's stolen. also, they say check your accounts often. especially after there's been a

breach. and change your pin number regularly, especially if you suspect maybe your information has been compromised or stolen. the family of 13-year-old jahi mcmath, the young girl declared brain dead in oakland, still praying for a miracle. last night, there was a prayer vigil at paradise baptist church in oakland. now, jahi went into cardiac arrest last week at oakland children's hospital. doctors declared her brain dead but her family has taken legal action to make sure she stays on life support. >> i just want you all to pray for her. she's a sweet girl. she's a big part of my heart. >> the family filed a formal request to get her medical records on tuesday. but they haven't received them yet. the hospital's chief of pediatrics says it's a policy not to release a patient's entire medical record while that patient is still in the hospital. a consumer advocacy group is calling for an investigation.

we've just received new information about the wildfire in big sur. there you see one of the firefighters using a flare gun to set backfires and that effort appears to be working. containment is now 79%. the size of the fire has grown to 917 acres. this morning. >> we've had very, very little rain. we have other conditions such as sudden oak death in this part of the forest. >> the fire started on monday and did force some evacuations. the cause is under investigation. but officials are looking into the possibility that the fire was started by an illegal camp fire. a community meeting is set for 4:00 this afternoon. well, the bay area does not have a spare the air lay leart this -- spare the air alert today. the record lasted 11 days

appearances throughout the city -- [no audio] >> reporter: she was diagnosed with leukemia. she will be nighting crime at various -- fighting crime at various location. this event is not about her. she completed an essay about a superhero can save the city of vallejo. it's about how the people can regain their strength and power to fight evil. we spoke to the principal here and this is definitely a good day for her as well as the school community. >> monica is a fabulous student. very energetic. she's excited about education and most importantly she wants to be a teacher when she grows up. >> reporter: organizers with the group, vallejo together as well as solano cancer kids, they set up the events and are encouraging people to come see her and wear superhero costumes as well.

all right. there's a live look at your numbers this morning. the dow is down about 13 points. they had a record day yesterday. doesn't look like that today. there is a new report out from the national association of realers saying home sales fell. still predicting the year will be the strongest since 2007. 8:43. let's bring you up to date on some of the other top stories we're following for you -- target stores says 40 million customers may be effected after credit and debit card accounts were compromised or stolen in a security breach that happened just as shoppers flooded stores for black friday. if you used your cards to shop between november 27th and december 15th, you may possibly

be at risk. there's also a new report out calling for changes within the chicken industry. consumer reports recently tested more than 30 store bought chicken breasts. they say bacteria was found in almost every one of them. an early-morning fire at an oakland gas station forced the evacuation of dozens of people. that fire followed a high-speed chase and activity on the roads. ktvu's paul chambers, you've been on the story since 4:30 this morning. what's the latest. what's happening out there? >> good morning, dave. within the last 10, 15 minutes, the vehicle was taken away. but the cleanup has begun. it will probably be a few hours before the gas station is reopened. they also have to repair two of the gas pumps. this all started after male county sheriff deputies were led on a high-speed chase before the vehicle lost control and took out two gas pumps. some residents say the initial crash woke them up. >> that's when i woke up my family and said let's go.

grab what you need. let's go. we high tailed it out of the house. it blew up again. and that's when the ground went up. >> reporter: that all happened just before 2:30 this morning. deputies say pulled the suv over at 98thant b street in east. -- 98th and b street in east koekd as part of the -- oakland as part of the dui task force. then the driver sped off and he lost control and struck two gas pumps. beaving him -- leaving him pinned behind the wheel. >> the irony of the situation, the deputy who has to do the stop as part of the avoid campaign has to now safe this driver from his burning vehicle. >> reporter: the fire chief says the gas attendant quickly hit the shutoff to prevent damages. the fire was burning. that was burning, that was the gas still inside the line

itself which burned for about two hours. crews used foam to burn it out. as for the driver taken to the hospital with a possible broken leg. once he's released, sheriff deputies say he will face dui- related charges. there was a passenger inside. he was not arrested. back out here live, you can see they are cleaning up. area we're told that everyone is taken care of. they will have to come back out here to repair the gas line itself. as of right now, the gas station is closed while they are repairing everything else. live in oakland, paul chambers, ktvu channel 2 news. new this morning, changes could be coming to a scrap metal plant in the peninsula. after two recent fires. ktvu's tara moriarty is live for us in redwood city to tell us what the fire chief is saying about the plant. >> reporter: we're here with the fire marshal and you know, there have been two fires in just two months at sims metal. obviously some changes may be in the future. joining me live is jim with

redwood city fire. this is not what folks want, especially with all of the smoke that a lot of the residents in the south bay had on tuesday. >> right. >> reporter: what is being done? i know a lot had been done after the last fire in november. >> well, what we're doing, we're working with sims. they've been very cooperative. their program has been outstanding, believe it or not. recycling centers are a has artous -- hazardous operation. with their program, they are do gonna do with it larger distances to the piles that are segregation and just look at other ways of mitigating such incidents, maybe additional fire protection systems. our fire codes are based on hazardous operations or life- safety issues. this process is just like the one in san francisco. last week they had a fire up there at a recycling center. so we're working to pinpoint

those exact processes that we need to identify. i know they reformulated their strategies. are they gonna have to make sure they are sticking to that? is there anything different as opposed to the last time the fire happened? >> no. they've been sticking to the program. we're just identifying addish nal safety measures to get -- additional safety measures to mitigate this. >> reporter: the fire is still under investigation. once we have the final report, we'll pass along the cause to you. live from redwood city, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. so far no one from the bay area has claimed their share of a $648 million megamillions jackpot. one of the two winning tickets was purchased at jennifer's twists in san jose. the storeowner there, happy. he's getting a million dollars for selling the ticket. he plans to buy a house for his family. the lottery winner has a year to claim the top prize. the person in georgia who bought the other winning

can, the murrieta boulevard and stanley. there's been a school bus crash. the injuries are minor which if you are a parent, you want to hear that but there are some minor injuries. we're not sure if any of the school children were injured because there were two other cars involved in this crash. again, minor injuries but a good area to stay avoid. stanley at murietta, in the center part of livermore. westbound 24, moderately heavy traffic. if you get to the bay bridge if you are going that far, westbound bay bridge is light. let's go to steve. >> thank you, sal. mostly sunny. a few clouds around associated with the system that's moving in and has moved in. >> starting to accelerate. it's produced light snow. the best thing for us, it's definitely cleared out the some of the haze and the air quality is much better. everything is moving rapidly to southern california. sierra nevada and then for some, not for us, but mostly

it's a crime that happens a

lot during the holidays, people stealing christmas gifts delivered to porches. >> there she is. >> makes -- that makes me so mad. >> one family posted a video they took as the woman took the package off the porch. she lives in willow glen. the package had $60 worth of toys that were christmas gifts for the kids. police have watched the clips and they are hoping to track down the suspect. this is not just happening in san jose. a woman in fremont says it happened to her. tiffany lee sent us this video of a woman stealing two packages from her front porch on tuesday. then running off. and santa clara police also released this photo. they say it shows a man stealing a package from someone's pore. it happened two weeks ago near rutledge police in cabrillo avenue. the man drove away in a dark-

colored two-door vehicle. the b.a.r.t. board meets in a few minutes to discuss the latest glitch in the contract. the union contract has conflicting information about the retiree medical insurance program. that problem comes as they are still trying to work out another contract problem. that one involves the family leave clause that b.a.r.t. management says was mistakenly left in the signed contract. the labor dispute between a.c. transit and the drivers may be coming to an end. a.c. transit says it's close to reaching a tentative agreement. but keep in mind, there were two other tent tiff deals earlier this year. both ended up being rejected. right now the two side are under a 60-day cooling off period. that will end on sunday. negotiations are expected to continue for the rest of the week. this morning the news media will get a look at the fix from the boek be bolts on the bay bridge span. that job began this summer

after engineers learned critical bolts broke as they were being tightened. you will remember the bolt problem nearly derailed the labor day opening. but it did open on schedule. let's check in with sal. been feeling like thursday. >> stanley boulevard at murrieta, a school bus crash. there weror injuries -- there were minor injuries. chp is working to notify parents. mine injuries -- minor injuries, again. want to emphasize that. the traffic is light coming up to the toll plaza with no major problems. san francisco is light approaching the 880 split. lots of sunshine here. but cooler and breezy. the air quality is finally good. don't have to worry about any spare-the-air days. a little breezy to windy and warmer into saturday.
