see the smog rose mare has been talking about -- rosemary has been talking about all morning long. hospital curve, the top portion of your screen, looks like it's picked up again. no delays to report. finally 280 near san jose, we have traffic looking good in both directions. 7:02. let's go back to the desk. >> thank you tara. and there's a new battle over o 13-year-old jahi mcmath the girl who is brain dead after tonsil surgery. the family's new plan is to keep her on life support, and the hospital is for now preventing that plan from happening. >> reporter: that's right. the family of jahi mcmath wants her moved. she is here this morning at oakland's children's hospital. still on life support and the court has said she'll stay on life support monday at 5. the family says they have a care facility to move her to and the fight to have that happen

continues. >> sir, do you have children. >> you don't want to answer. i think you do have children. >> you can see the interaction between jahi mcmath's uncle, and they found a care facility about 50 miles from here that has agreed to take jahi. they won't tell us which facility but a group of catholic doctors helped them find it and the family's insurance has agreed to cover in part that cost. there are two procedures that need to happen before she can be moved. >> a traik tube is where you put a tube in here. i had one when i was a child. you can see the scar. it's a hole that's cut in the windpipe and a piece of plastic is inserted. a gastric tube goes into the stomach wall and into the stomach. >> the judge did not authorize or order surgical procedures or transfer to another facility. >> reporter: so this morning, the fight continues, it's still unclear if those procedures will be performed and who would do it. it's still unclear if the

courts would need to step in again. remember, this is a very time sensitive battle. the courts have set monday at 5:00 p.m. for the time when life support can be turned off. live in oakland. claudine wong ktvu channel 2 news. a nonprofit organization meanwhile is using jahi mcmath's story to raise money for its own cause. consumer watchdog recently sent out an e-mail asking people to donate a to help protect families like jahi's from medical neglect. a spokesperson from the hospital responded by saying the organization is taking advantage of jahi mcmath's situation and the allegations made in the e-mail are misguided and incorrect. time is 7:05. and friend and family of a missing bay area navy veteran are asking for your help to bring him home safe. the group called finding will, plans to hold a search for derek williams cell today. he was last seen at san francisco general hospital on

december 17th. his friends say they noticed a change in his behavior just before he checked in at sf general. he's 6 feet tall, weighs about 200 pounds. he has blue eyes and brown hair. we'll have more at 7:45. been a month since a sacramento couple went missing. 64-year-old van and his wife shantra has not been sen since thanksgiving. their boat was found running with freshly caught fish and several life jackets on board. the sheriff's department says it's likely they drowned and their son thinks more could have been done to find their parents. >> like this would happen in the future, you know, i think they should invest in the right equipment and the right sonar to help out. >> we have used all of our sonar methods, we have used them weekly. we agree with them that the first week is a very crucial time.

the conditions at the time were working against us. >> crews spent several day walking the banks and searching the waters, but there was no sign of the couple. investigators say they have no reason to suspect foul play as well. there was a mysterious odor coming from behind the oakland coliseum late last night. pg and e received several calls about a smell of natural gas. crews could not locate the source of the smell or any gas leaks and there were no gas readings. eventually the smell dissipated after a few hours. fremont police are looking for witnesses to a crash involving an alameda fire suv. the fire department tweeted out this video of the after math of the crash last night. this is on dakota road. police say the fire vehicle had its emergency lights on when it collided with another car. the battalion chief behind the wheel and the driver of the other car were taken to the hospital and released.

the intersection was blocked for several hours during the investigation. nexflix says it took less than an hour to fix a video streaming problem in north and south america. the company says it started having problems shortly after 7 last night our time. customers in parts of the u.s., canada and latin america received a message saying whoops, something went wrong when they tried to stream the videos. nexflix tweeted everything was working just before 8:00 p.m. several federal lawmakers want to hold companies accountable when their customers financial information is stolen. new jersey senator robert mendez is calling for financial penalties on stores that put profits above their customers. he's asking the federal trade commission if they can pose fines after hackers stole credit and debit card information from 40 million customers. >> we have gone through three major data breaches in the consumers credit cards. it seems to me at this point what we need is to have the

ability to levy fines and penalties. menendez says when a data breach occurred at tj max and marshals stores in 2006, the fcc was not able to fine the store's parent company as part of a settlement agreement. it's 7:08. amtrak passengers may be forced to pick up the tab for meals and wine, now served for free on long distance trips. >> two white wine selections, two red wine selections. >> the practice of offering the freebies has earned a spot on senator tom corbin's waste book because amtrak is subsidized by tax dollars. the amtrak inspector general says the rail agency lost $72 million in food last year. >> we're $999 million in losses in a dozen years and unfortunately those losses

continue to mount. >> amtrak says on the web site, food is included in a price in the ticket. the inspector general recommends that amtrak start charging for the food. there could be more golden gate transit buses rolling through sonoma county. they tell the press democrat they're considering new or additional service to growth areas including windsor and east santa rosa. ridership on golden gate transit increased 3% every month in the past year. a new study says alameda county has the highest population growth in the state this past year. new numbers show the county's population went up almost 2% between july of 2012 and july of this year. alameda county officials say homes are more affordable than in san jose and san francisco, and the family is close to jobs. contra costa ranked and san francisco ranked 8. the bay area is home to two of the richest areas.

welcome back to mornings on 2. time now 7:14. damage to the ecosystem caused by this year's rim fire by yosemite national park may cost around $800 million. the report by earth economics for the san francisco public utilities commission says trees provide a useful function by absorb absorb carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. it has also reduced the value of nearby property. a two hour standoff with an armed man came to a peaceful end in san jose.

police used what they call a noise distraction device. the man surrendered and was later taken into custody. they were called to the home on north 14th street after the man threatened a family member with a weapon. no one else was hurt. new this morning, a suicide car bomber attacked a convoy of international troops in afghanistan. we have just received the first pictures from the scene. nato says the bombing killed 3 service members and injured 6 afghans. however, nato has not yet released the names of the three killed or the nationalities. the taliban is claiming responsibility for the attack, which occurred half a mile from a coalition base in kabul. this incident is an example of rye analysts are saying the u.s. needs to worry about growing terror threats in the coming year. cnn is reporting that the u.s. recently intercepted messages among senior al-qaeda operatives in yemen about future attacks.

while the intercepts don't indicate specific targets, they are described as active  plotting. >> plotting attacks against the united states in multiple locations including trying to conduct attacks against the u.s. homeland, especially by taking down aircraft. >> with previous al-qaeda leaders such as osama bin laden gone, they have much more awe tonemy and freedom to -- atonmy. antiwar activist cindy sheehan is running for governor of california. she is the member of the peace and freedom party. two republicans have declared their candidacy. governor jerry brown has not officially said he plans to run for reelection, but it is widely expected that he will. a new poll shows oakland mayor gene juan is favored to win the election. he received 32% support.

and second joe tuman with 22%. third is oakland council woman lib by schaef, received 16% and the other 0% favored someone else or was undecided. president obama took time off if from his hawaii vacation to sign a bipartisan budget deal and a military spending deal. the budget deal will fund the government through 2015 and ease some of the sequestration cuts it gives military a 1% pay raise and cracks down on sexual assault and gives more protection to victims. federal unemployment benefits end tomorrow for more than 1 million americans. that's when a program signed into law five years ago is set to expire. an additional 850,000 workers will lose state unemployment

benefits over the next three months. a bipartisan proposal for a short-term extension could be debated when congress returns to work next month. well, we don't see this a lot, but happening now, let's go live to space. 300 miles above the earth, in fact, were members of the international space station crew were making their third space walk in about a week. this time, two russian cosmonauts are installing cameras, and checking on the progress of experiments being conducted on the exterior. last saturday and tuesday, two americans conducted space walks to remove and replace a vital cooling pump that failed. that project has already proved to be a success. >> a nice clear picture. it's 7:18. we'll hopefully get a clear picture of traffic. apparently an accident in the east bay. we have a car crash on eastbound 980 westbound, this is two lanes of traffic blocked. let's look at our maps. a tow truck has arrived. they're clearing everything at the shoulder. this map shows two crashes. actually there's only one. sometimes the accident gets reported twice to the chp.

at the bay bridge toll plaza. we have a gorgeous sunrise starting, the bulk of traffic passed through an hour ago. many people having time off because of the holidays and in the south bay, 280 at the 880 split in san jose. traffic on the bottom of the screen, northbound 280 as you make your drive toward santa clara. it's 7:18. i know you have been talking about the atmosphere the air days. this sunrise almost looks fake. >> isn't it beautiful. >> the official sunrise at 7:25. and plenty of high clouds in the forecast. we have a weak system sweeping across the area, not going to bring us any rain. but we'll drive our temperatures down just a little bit, and going to shake things up a bit and improve our air quality slightly. another spare the air day for today. i want to give you just a comparison here. the a air quality index dropping just a bit. and i think tomorrow we'll see a slight improvement over today. that is good news. the inner east bay in the

7:23. in pennsylvania, shoppers looking for post christmas bargains got quite a surprise when a deer decided to join them. the deer walked through the front door of a dick's sporting goods store. the deer slipped on the floor and a customer tackled it to the ground before it did damage. but customers say it did add a bit of excitement toe their shopping experience. >> a deer would want to walk into a store that didn't have rifles and sporting good equipment. >> he could have walked into any store but he picked dick's. >> the deer was removed from the store by the gaming commission. this morning, the annual christmas bird count is underway in san francisco. it's been a 31 year tradition for the golden gate awe gate. making this week the perfect time for the count.

bird watchers will head to 17 spots in san francisco from dawn to dusk to catch glimpses of more than 100 bird species. we're finding out more about a gilroy man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend on christmas day. police arrested 21-year-old ernesto rodriguez yesterday morning in connection with the killing of 21-year-old alma ortega. she had a restraining order against rodriguez. rodriguez attacked ortega with a box cutter. >> determining the current status of their relationship, the past status of their relationship, the past cases where law enforcement had contact. that is what our investigators are out doing as we speak. >> orr it testifying yankee's friends say she had just -- ortega's friends say she had just graduated from dental assistant school. anticipation is building for the last hunger fight game

another transit strike in the bay area following the two b.a.r.t. strikes earlier this year. janine de la vega live in oakland with what's at stake and what drivers are saying this morning. >> reporter: brian, we're here at the mcarthur b.a.r.t. station, and waiting to talk to drivers as they come here to pick up passengers. they're voting on a tentative agreement. if voted down, a possible strike may happen. now, these workers are part of the amalgamated transit union which represents bus drivers and mechanics. they have been fighting for better wages, health care benefits, scheduling and break time. some union workers say the agreement before them is not different than the ones from before. it increases medical payments from $0 to $120. one driver already voted this morning, and said he compromised and voted yes. >> am i satisfied with it, no,

i think we could have done better, but we serve the public and i think that we can best serve the public by being on the job, and the things that we do go through, the public knows what we go through and so as we serve them, they will in turn serve us by putting pressure on ac transit to do right. >> reporter: ktvu spoke with several members of the union about how they felt and some did el tell us they plan on voting no, and the president says she's confident the agreement will pass. as you saw they are continuing to roll for the 180,000 daily passengers. voting will take place until 7:00 p.m. they're hoping to have results before midnight. reporting live from oakland, janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. meantime, it will cost you more to ride b.a.r.t. in the new year. starting january 1st, fares will go up 5.2%. that's an average increase of 19-cents for a one way trip.

it will use the money for train cars, improvements at its hayward maintenance yard and a new train control system. police in palo alto are investigating a shooting that sent two men to the hospital. it happened shortly before 9:00 last night. no arrests have been made. anyone with information is asked to call police. it is 7:34. a fundraiser is planned outside the raiders game this sunday for a young woman hit by a stray bullet two weeks ago. 19-year-old dominique romero was watching television at her home when a bullet came through the wall and lodged into her spine. she could be paralyzed from the waist down. she has been moved out of intensive care. no visitors are allowed except for her immediate family. donations will be collected outside the coliseum to help cover medical costs. with the new year days away, richmond police plan to crack down on a dangerous tradition, police will be out in full force to catch people who shoot their guns into the

air to celebrate. their shot spotter system can pinpoint within 25 meters. police say there were more than a hundred shooting incidents in six hours last new year's eve. so what does it sound like here on new year's eve. oh, it sounds like beirut, afghanistan. >> when you fire off guns, people can be hurt. property can be damaged. it's an arrestable offense. >> police say they will show up to homes where they detect gunfire. government watchdog groups call it a dirty little secret for local elected offices. it's taxpayer funded medical coverage for life. the bay area news group says local taxpayers spent more than a million and a half dollars last year for former part-time elected officials and in some cases their dependents. palo alto spent more than $115,000 last year followed by san rafael and the west contra costa unified school district. some of the people have not been in office in 30 years, but

supporters of the benefit say it's a perk for part-time elected leaders who receive a meager salary. if you had trouble signing up for health care on the covered california web site you have until today to get it done. the web site and phone, changes have been over loaded. health officials are encouraging people to try to submit applications online or try to get through to a call center. they say the deadline could be extended further if it becomes clear that people are continuing to have trouble. new this morning, a snowboarder with ties to the bay area has died in one of the first deadly avalanches of the season. 29-year-old michael kazange was at the jackson hole mountain resort when he set off an avalanche yesterday. his friend who was a doctor tried to save his life. they say he was at a high risk area. michael split time living in the bay area and jackson wyoming and has friends and family in the area. meantime michael's brother released a statement overnight,

which in part said "he loved his family, his cal bears, his skying body and san francisco ." he said his parents were lucky enough to spend christmas with him the day before he was killed. after almost a week without lights or heat. power is slowly being restored in parts of the midwest, northeast and canada. thousands of people from the great plains to maine and eastern canada have been without power since last saturday due to an ice storm. yesterday, more snow slowed down progress in maine. in michigan, utility crews have been working double shifts to get the power back on. but in canada, some people say the crews still have not shown up. and snow and ice is likely to blame for a pile up in pennsylvania that shut down a major highway. about 3 dozen people were hurt yesterday when 35 cars crashed about 50 miles west of philadelphia. the westbound lanes were shut down for several hours. a similar pile up happened on

the freeway in eastern pennsylvania. and snow caused a small plane to slide off an airport runway in massachusetts. it happened yesterday afternoon as the plane was landing at lawrence municipal airport after a flight from florida. the pilot and a passenger both walked away, though, without any serious injuries. well, warmer weather across the bay area is drawing people to the coast, but the coast guard warns don't turn your back to the ocean. hot o spot over the past few days has been ocean beach in san francisco. plenty of people played this the water, but the coast guard is cautioning people about sneaker waves because they could come up fast and grab you under water. >> you don't necessarily see them on the surface. it could be a rip current, an undertow. >> the coast guard says there was a high number of drownings this time last year. they say there has been a number of incidents this month where people needed rescuing and sneaker waves may have been a factor. 7:39. someone in a calaveras county town of san andres has a

lottery ticket worth $8 million. it's the talk of the town. the winning lottery ticket was pulled on christmas day. no winner has come forward. the ticket was sold at treats general store, which received $40,000 for selling the ticket. the owner says he plans to split half the winnings with his employees. >> that's sweet. i didn't know. i'm shocked. i was surprised. >> i was stoked. i was not expecting that at all. many people are speculating the winner might not know they've hit the jackpot because of the busy holiday time. and the person with a winning mega-millions lottery ticket bought in san jose has not come forward. one of the two winning tickets were sold at jenny's gift shop in san jose. it is common for big prize winners to delay come forward until after getting advice on how to handle the new winnings. the two winners will split $648 million. >> is that all?

stock markets up this morning, but turn around just down slightly right now, and light trading as the year winds down. the market moved ahead yesterday after encouraging signs in the job market. a report suggests japan's economy is also improving taking a live look at the big board, the dow currently down 3. the nasdaq is down 9. s&p down 1. ups expects to have all the packages promised by christmas at their final destinations by tonight. it's offering refunds on ofunds -- on shipping costs in my cases. they are working with customers who have not received their packages yet. many retailers including macies and the north face are reconsidering if they will guarantee on time holiday delivers next year. amazon's latest announcement

about the prime time service may be mistimed. a record number of people signed up for its free two day shipping program, the week before christmas. and that's the key week to qualify for guaranteed christmas delivery. amazon says 1 million people joined the prime program and says there are now 20 million prime members. apple is going back to a federal judge to ask again for a sales ban on some samsung products. apple already won a lawsuit against samsung for using apple technology in the older devices. but the judge did not tell samsung to stop selling them. apple is renewing its request for the ban after a federal appeals court ruling. apple says technology from samsung's older phones and tablets finds its way into newer products as well. time now 7:45. and we have new information about the search for a missing

military veteran in san francisco. pam cook live in the news room and why his friends are concerned. >> we spoke to his friends this morning of derek william cell. they say they noticed a big pattern change in his life shortly before he disappeared. he checked into san francisco general hospital with the help of his friends. he was last seen on december 17 december 17th when he checked out a couple of days later. he's described as 6 feet tall. weighs 200 pounds. there's a picture of him on your screen. he has blue eyes and brown hair. now, the group called finding will, plans to hold a search today. now, they're posting fliers around san francisco. they're walking the streets, talking to people who may have seen him. and this group of offends, they're not new to this type -- of friend, they're not new to this type of work. they're military professionals who have worked together at disaster responses before. now, we have a photographer in the area where friends will be searching today. we hope to have comments from his friends in the next hour of mornings on 2. i'm also going to have more on the community

garbage bags over his bedroom windows to keep it dark. two people have been killed after a small plane crashed into the front yard of a home in fresno. it happened late last night near the fresno airport. a man and a 9-year-old boy were the two people killed in the crash. no one inside the home where the plane went down was injured. authorities believe the plane may have hit a tree. the crash is under investigation. it was a computer glitch that had people getting their hands on airline tickets for an amazing price. word spread fast about cross country tickets on delta airlines, for as low as $25. the wrong prices were available for just two hours yesterday morning, but the best part, delta says it will honor those super low prices. no word yet on how many low price tickets were sold. interesting problem here, san francisco could soon face a shortage of chefs. the city has the most restaurants per resident of any

alcohol level three times the legal limit. both he and his daughter suffered minor injuries. reyes faces dui. hit-and-run and child endangerment charges. meantime, law enforcement agencies across the bay area will be out in full force tonight looking for drunk drivers. officer say with an increase in holiday parties across the bay area, they want to make sure the roads are safe. officers say if you do plan to party tonight or this weekend, designate a sober driver. a san francisco judge will hear arguments on monday about whether or not to keep city college of san francisco open. hundreds of teachers and students gathered outside the courtroom yesterday as the judge began hearing arguments on two separate lawsuits. they're looking to block the decision to take away the school's accreditation next july. one teacher's union says the accrediting commission is bias. >> the commission according to the state of california is that

about whether or not the family will be able to move jahi mcmath. because before she could move, the family says she would need medical procedures performed and they need the hospital to make that happen. >> two things are needed and they're needed to meet the guidelines of the facility as well as the guidelines for this care. and one of those is a trach tube. right now she's on a tube down into her lungs. this is a more permanent tube and would be safer for her than having this continually being in her lungs through her mouth. the others what we requested from the court earlier which is a g tube or gastric tube. it would provide her with nutrition. and we requested that the hospital allow that to occur or fa still at a time that to occur. -- facilitate that to occur. >> reporter: the hospital has and maintains that following the complications from the december 9th surgery, jahi mcmath is brain dead. because the hospital has taken the stance, it has made the determination that it should not perform the procedures

requested. the judge did not authorize or order any surgical procedures for transfer to another facility the children's hospital does not believe performing surgical procedures on the body of a deceased person is an appropriate medical practice. >> reporter: and to add to that uncertainty is the deadline set by the court. they have ruled that life support can be turned off by the hospital on monday at 5:00 p.m. so if the hospital continues to refuse to perform these procedures to get her transferred, it's still unclear what the family's next step would be. live in oakland. claudine wong ktvu channel 2 news. meantime, a nonprofit organization is using jahi mcmath's story to raise money for its own cause. consumer watchdog recently sent out an e-mail asking people to donate to help protect families like jahi mcmath's from medical neglect. a spokesperson responded by saying the organization is taking advantage of jahi's situation and the allegation as made in the e-mail are

misguided and incorrect. it is 8:05. new this morning, police in el cerrito say they need help to find a man suspected of snatching a woman's purse. this is the man police are looking for. they say he followed a woman last friday afternoon and grabbed her purse. but the woman fought back. police say the woman pulled out a pot she had just purchased and hit the man with it. but he was still able to run off. there was a mysterious odor coming from behind the oakland coliseum late last night. pg&e received several calls about a strong smell of natural gas. the oakland fire department responded but crews could not locate the source of the smell or gas leaks. it dissipated after a few hours. fremont police are looking for witnesses to a crash involving an alameda county fire suv. the fire department tweeted out this video of the after math of the crash last night. this is on dakota road.

a homeless man accused in a deadly christmas stabbing in a santa rosa is scheduled to be arraigned in court. it happened outside the downtown public library near 3rd and east streets.

police arrested a 26-year-old man nearby. they say he had blood on his hands as well as on his clothes. the victim is identified as 22- year-old nicholas bloom who is also homeless. police are still investigating a motive. a 4-year-old boy in clayton is recovering after being rescued from a backyard swimming pool on christmas. the boy's family found him floating in a pool on inverness way wednesday night. the boy is expected to survive. the home where he was found is near a fire station that closed early this year due to budget cuts. despite the closure, a mobile command unit was able to respond within minutes. an increase in the number of people who ride their bikes nationwide is causing some cities to consider registering bicycles much like drivers register their cars. the goal is to raise money for fixes. the not everyone is on board

in oakland with what could happen if the unions rank and file reject the deal. >> reporter: brian, it is possible that a strike could happen. and that's something the ac transit passengers do not want. we're here at the mcarthur b.a.r.t. station. right where there is an ac transit bus stop and we have been talking to drivers about how they voted this morning, and we're getting a mixed reaction. now, these workers are part of the local 192 which represents more than 1600ac transit bus drivers and mechanics. they have been fighting for better wages, health care benefits, scheduling and break time. they already rejected two other tentative agreements, some union workers tell ktvu the new deal before them is not much different than the others. the agreement offers a 9.5% raise over 3 years and increase in medical benefit payments from the current $0 to $120 a month. we spoke to drivers last night and this morning about how they're voting. >> if a no vote passes, then,

o heat. power is slowly being restored in parts of the midwest, northeast and canada. thousands of people from the great plains to maine and eastern canada that have been without power since last saturday due to an ice storm. yesterday more snow slowed down progress in maine. in michigan, utility crews have been working double shifts to get the power back on. but in canada, some people say crews still haven't shone up. the truce are still down. the power lines are still down. nobody has been to our street to fix anything. >> these crews left their families prior to christmas, haven't been home but are here to help bring power back to michigan. >> in michigan, more than a half million customers were in the dark. that number has been released to about 65,000. many people say they have been surviving the bitter cold and dark by using generators and candles. there's a problem. police in michigan say the ice

time now is 8:44. let's get you updateed on top stories. many homes and businesses in walnut creek and lafayette are in the dark right now. the power outage is affecting 11560 customers. the utility tells us it's trying to locate the cause of the problem and so far there's no estimated time on when power will be fully restored. ac transit bus drivers and mechanics are voting on whether to approve a labor contract. it raises salaries 9 1/2 percent over three years, and union members tell us they will vote against the proposal because it increases worker contributions for health insurance. workers say that wipes out any salary increase. there's a new battle over 13-year-old jahi mcmath, the oakland girl who was declared brain dead after complications from tonsil surgery. claudine wong is at children's hospital in oakland where a plan to transfer the girl to a long-term care facility is causing new tension.

claudine. >> this case has been very difficult, emotional and this morning takes another turn. jahi mcmath is still here at oakland o children's hospital, still on life support, but the hospital still maintains that she is brain dead and should be taken off that life support. the family, however, says they want her to continue being kept on that support and they say they found a care facility willing to do that. first they have to get her there, and the battle to make that happen is now heating up. >> sir, do you have children? do you have children? >> i'm not going to answer you. >> you don't want to answer? >> reporter: and as you can see from that interaction last night between jahi's uncle, the family attorney and a hospital spokespersons, they did find a care facility 50 miles from here that has agreed to take jahi. they won't tell us which facility but they tell us a group of catholic doctors helped them find it and say the family's insurance has agreed to cover in part the cost of

her care. but there's a catch. there are two procedures that need to happen before she can be moved. >> trach is a tube you put in here. i had one when i was a child. you can see the scar. it's a hole that's cut here in your windpipe and a piece of plastic is inserted. a gastric tube goes into the stomach wall. >> the judge did not authorize surgical procedures for transfer to another facility. >> reporter: this morning, the fight and the uncertainty continues. it's still unclear if the procedures will be performed and who will do it. it is possible that the family would have to go back to the courts because remember, the judge had an independent doctor take a look at the jahi and made the determination that life support could be turned off on monday at 5:00 p.m. if anything is going to change the hospitals position may be that a court must order them to do so. at this point, we wait to see what the family's next move

will be. live in oakland. claudine wong ktvu channel 2 news. 8:47. happening now, family friends and volunteers are gathering in san francisco to continue their search for a missing military veteran. as pam cook reporting from the news room, many of the people searching have a lot of experience in this kind of rock. >> it's very interesting, the group searching for the man known as will is made up of experienced veterans and search and rescue volunteers. derek williams cell was last seen on december 17th when he checked himself out of san francisco general hospital. his friends helped him check in a couple of days earlier after they noticed changes in his behavior. will and many of the people now searching for him are part of a disaster response team that was formed after the earthquake in haiti. his father has flown in from nebraska. he's particularly concerned about will's frame of mind. he says that he's afraid his son has been deeply affected by not only his time in the military but also at the
