7:01 am
good morning welcome to mornings on 2. it is sunday december 29th i'm claudine wong. >> and i'm eric rasmussen. let's started with weather w ithrosemary orosco. >> this morning we're starting with dry conditions in the hills. that's prompting a fire advisory. most of us aren't feeling the wind but it sure is making a significant difference on some of our temperatures. some of us in the upper 20s, some of us in the upper 50s this morning. i'll take a look at what's happening outside your door and the temperatures expected for this afternoon, coming up. an investigation is underway on a hit-and-run. a man was walking on the fourth street onramp to interstate 80 when he was hit by an suv. it happened around 2:30 this
7:02 am
morning. the driver did stop and is cooperating with investigators. police do not believe alcohol was factor and they're still trying to figure out why that man was on the onramp. in morning the search is on for whoever killed and shot a woman outside the kabuki movie theater this morning in san francisco. shots rang out in the lower pacific neighborhood. the man was shot at least once and died at the hospital. the victim has not been identified. there's still no sign to a woman that's new to the bay area and is suffering from the early stages of alzheimer's. katie is at the scene. >> reporter: like you said it's where the canines lost her scent. if you look down the street this way there is a bus stop and police have notified ac transit that that woman is missing. now let me show you some video
7:03 am
of search crews gathering to search for harriett halbrook last night. but just a few hours ago they stopped the search. they say at this point they've exhausted their resources. halbrook went out to walk her dog. she lives here. here is a picture of the woman. she's 5'5" tall. holbrook has gray and white hair and may be wearing glasses. while she does have early stage alzheimer's, her family says she's never gone missing before. >> she does walk every day with her dog. around the immediate area, but she has been kind of expanding her environment. she still does not know alameda
7:04 am
all that well at all. >> reporter: holbrook was walking her chocolate lab named mocha. you're looking at the intersection where the canines tracked her scent to. at this point both have been missing overnight. so if you have seen either holbrook or her chocolate lab named mocha, call police. the family of mcmath is now seeking donations to help move her out of children's oakland hospital and on to a long term facility. prayer groups have gathered outside the hospital holding vigils for the 13-year-old girl who doctors say is brain dead following complications from tonsil surgery. a judge ruled doctors can take her off of life support tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. jahi's family has released a letting saying it never intended to cause an intense debate over life or death but
7:05 am
that jahi's mother stands by her convictions. >> thanks to everybody out there who's been sending their prayers and sending their cards and their letters, she reads every last one of them and that gives her strength to keep going even further. >> she's brain dead and has no chance of recovery and for anyone to talk about any hope is unrealistic and unfair to everyone. >> jahi's family is trying to raise 20, $20,000 on the group funding site go fund me. people have donated more than $13,000. a fundraiser is also planned at 3:00 today at the church of all faiths in oakland. it's located on 125th avenue. in a statement from mcmath's statement and attorney it reads in part, we believe that in this country a parent has the right to make decisions concerning the existence of their child not a doctor who looks only at lines on a paper.
7:06 am
we're working every minute to preserve our rights and jahi's existence goes on to say it is our fundamental constitutional right as it would be yours should this horror ever befall you. the raider nation is being asked today to help a 19-year- old woman who was paralyzed after being hit by a stray bullet. the anti crime group make oakland better has set up a tailgating display in today's game. the group is going to collect donations to help dominique romero. she is paralyzed from the waist down while she'll soon be discharged from the hospital she does face months of physical therapy. she was sitting at home watching television when a bullet hit her spine. >> we need help for after the fact. it's a 19-year-old girl and now
7:07 am
you think, what do you do. >> police have confirmed that romero's home was not the target. low humidity is causing high fire conditions. the red flag warning is going to be in effect until 10:00 a.m. when the winds are expected to die down. >> i should see green grass everywhere right now and it's still brown with the dry fuels and the gusty winds. and the drop in relative humidity. >> this year's fire season startedded early and ended late with calfire fighting 5,000 wildfires. that's 2,000 more than last year. the dry weather is also prompting calfire to increase its stats and fire engines in santa cruz county. there have been 31 wildfires reported in the first two months. so instead of retiring its summer engines, calfire has
7:08 am
decided to keep them on all summer long. a winter spare the air alert has been issued. the bay area quality has been banning the burning of wood fires indoor or outside. it's the 22nd spare the air alert for the winter season which runs from november 1st to february 28th. your time now is 7:08. if you're just waking up. still cool outside but we're talking about the spare the air alert. and rosemary these are the perfect days to have a fire so i know it's tough for a lot of people with this record string ban. >> it is chilly as we start in most places. not everybody is cold at this hour. let's take a live look outside and into san francisco this morning. the sunrise is upon us.

7:10 am
depending on where you are. if you are calm this morning. you're cold. if the winds are helping to stir some of that cold air temperatures are warming and when we get the down sloping winds those add the additional warm up. so this is where we do have the red flag warning. if i scoot in closer it lasts until 10:00 this morning. but as you can see it's for the hills. this is until 10:00 this morning. very dry out there. as they mentioned just a moment ago produces that fire weather concerns. ridge of high pressure still over the west. we do have a trough to the east of us. and we are right in between it. that's where they bring in those winds to the area. and they're expected to die out this morning. 66 in berkeley, upper 60s for oakland. if you're going to see the raiders play a great day. we have mid-60s in san francisco. 67 in hayward. down to the south bay how about you san jose checking in at 69.
