>> he's played extremely well. he has my vote. i told him the other day he is having the kind of year that a áf any player would want to have. >> navarro has the vote for me for mvp. it's paying off for him because he's always a hard working guy. it shows on sunday. >> reporter: with amad brooks and navarro bowman. three of the best line backers you will find and feast your eyes on some of those stats 49er fans. this guy is the real deal as they say. and as you mentioned not just physically gifted, but a very heady player and none more evident than in that play that marked the victory against the atlanta falcons. i want to ask you about the guy who helps make it all roll and that's coach harbaugh. nothing but victory. nothing but postseason his since arrival here in san

francisco. if you had to play under a great guy like him you would play under bill walsh. but how do you play under a guy that eats, sleeps and breathes football? >> i love it. the team kind of takes on the personality of the coach. and this is a fiery head coach. and so that's why you have such a fiery offense and defense i mean even the special teams plays really hard. so it would be fun to play for this guy. i mean some of the things he says you know. and you know the players got to sit in the locker room and just shake their head. but it's fun, it's fun to play for a guy like that. that really knows football, puts you in the best position to succeed. but yet he's got a little humorous side to him. >> you mentioned that too. that's a perfect set up for a little collection if you will of his pearls of wisdom. he's really losened up and take a listen to some of the comments he has made leading up
10:02 pm
to the game against the packers. >> i heard him say that you would not hit a man with glasses. >> i have some scars. sometimes i will have you over for bar-be-que and show you my scars. i do it sometimes for my neighbors. >> sometimes i'm superstitious. >> grinding the meat. >> feels like you go to the dentist chair and 3-1/2 hours of getting a root canal done. >> happy as i can be. happy as i can be. >> i was and still am happier than a pig in slop. >> remind you right now that nelson mandela, high five. >> the man just flat out oozes fashion for the game of football and obviously his players are responding to that as the niners under his watch go to the play offs for the

third consecutive time but if you're a 49er fan you're thinking just hour luck. aaron rogers is healthy again. he had one regular season game against the bears you saw how that turned out against the packers. and now they're getting ready to head to the frozen tundra. we'll talk about it. mourning the loss of a 6- year-old killed by a drunk driver. >> i'm ken wayne we're looking into the insurance and liability issues surrounding her death. then signs of trouble in the sierra. what the state's annual snow pack survey reveals. and the first flu death in the area. expert advice on precautions you should take whether you're young or old.

rogers gets out. touchdown, cobb. touchdown randall cobb. an emotional return to the field last week for aaron rogers in the packers victory that didn't get them into the play offs at 8-8. we can talk all day about the 49ers. why they're now 12-4. packers, they got to go travel to green bay to -- through the 49ers. there's a lot of unfairness in that but that's the way the nfl works. and through the week it's been getting colder and colder at lambeau field. testimony to that how about at last report they are about 7,000 unsold seats for packer fans in green bay. and we now how rabid they are and you know how they are. >> it's chilly if packer fans don't even want to go. it will make a difference. it will make a difference in
10:06 pm
even how you think. you can feel your face shrink, and your eyes water. it's tough, it's tough. >> it will be no better come sunday. howie and the gang will be out there. and you can talk about some of the great moments remember. you're too young but bart star, the quarterback sneak and that famous ice bowl game packers and cowboys. maybe we'll be in store with a great moment or two. because i've thought maybe the 49ers and i'm trying not to be debby downer here about the weather. but you know they like smash mouth football. frank gore has been stymie a little bit in the last few games. maybe he'll be able to run the football. where as the packers relying on pass routs and aaron rogers arm. maybe they'll be at a disadvantage. >> i think the fact that the 49ers basically are a better team. they have a better running game, they're ranked higher. i think that the defense -- >> they're deeper and more
10:07 pm
balanced. >> the 49er defense is better. i think all in all the 49ers are a better team and should come out with a win. aaron rogers is great. >> he would definitely have to be the x factor and 49er fans thought maybe they wouldn't have to deal with this guy in the postseason again because he's capable of explosive things on the field. and he proved that against the chicago bears after he shook off the rust a little bit last week. and he wracked up what 318 yards passing. you see him taking the field ever confident and a guy a lot of 49er fans will hold a grudge against they didn't draft him right out of cal state. >> if you would ask anybody back then the 49ers made the right choice with the information they had. now that aaron rogers sat on the bench behind bret favre and developed his skills he's the
10:08 pm
best that there is. down the field it's incredible how he can put it right on a dot. >> and make it happen. he certainly had the admiration of his peers let's take a little listen about the thoughts and comments with regard to aaron rogers. >> every team is different. play offs compared to week one. you can definitely take some stuff from that game but teams are trying to figure out their identity. we have different players playing. doing different things on offense. >> he can run if he has to. he can definitely put a slant on that ball. >> when you look at our rushing attack and passing attack we're pretty balanced now. that's something we had not had around here in the past. >> well, i mean aaron rogers is clearly our best player. he's franchise quarterback. he runs our offense at a very, very high level. so everybody has great confidence in him.
10:09 pm
when he's on the field it's different. that's very obvious. >> the player comes in at execution. the players can run the ball better. >> that's the problem execution in sub freezing weather is never easy. but you know the 49ers have had a rookie out of the fcc that's made a big impact on their defense that would be the young safety eric reed and the packers they had a problem with their running game and they've got a guy out of the fcc too from bama eddy lacy who's made an impact and could again in his first career play off game. >> just another weapon for aaron rogers to turn to. he's got a great receiver. he's a great quarterback. and when he needs to he turns around and turns it to eddy lacy. that's the threat that the 49ers are awesome against the run. i think they'll neutralize him and they'll make aaron rogers beat him. he will find out he had not done it in three runs so we'll find out on sunday. >> that's a little scary to try to beat a team four consecutive
10:10 pm
timeless. -- times. but here's the thoughts on eddy lacy. >> he is a great runner. has great vision. the ability to break tackles and make yards after contact. goes straight to the end zone. there's days he tries to run the ball. eddy lacy, he's picked up throughout the course of the season. has become one of the better running backs. young running backs in this league. he's been running really hard. >> we spent a little time talking about aaron rogers but i think collin kaepernick deserves attention. the guy has led the 49ers to six consecutive victories heading into the postseason. arguably you can say he had his best game ever against the green bay packers in last year's play offs and then opening things up this year. we'll talk to collin in demand next as we continue.
10:11 pm
10:12 pm
it's great from the owner all the way down this is a class group. >> we wanted to know, we want a big ring. had to surprise you a little bit with that. you like the mustache. >> i did. that was a big mustache. what year was that? >> that was at stanford stadium 1985 after you guys dismantled the dolphins and you said you want a big ring. >> that was hilarious. eddy dean was great with the big rings. he gave us a big ring. >> we will continue with this soap opera five super bowls. had to pull that one out of the deep library. >> yes you did. >> 1985. but you know the 49ers would like to go back to the bowl for the seven time get that sixth super bowl. i know a lot of people are
10:13 pm
still stinging and collin kaepernick his first bowl season. how would you assess how he did and is he the guy that can get that ring number six. >> i thought he did well. the other teams get coached too. the other coaches watched all the kaepernick film and they tried to figure out a way to stop him. they did stop him from running but they really could not stop him from throwing. he kind of leveled off in the middle and got better and better and better every week. and now these last six games he's been playing really well. this winning streak his quarterback rating is over 106. so thrown one interception. >> 10 touchdown pass, one interception that's a nice ratio. >> so i think he got a -- say he's playing really well. he is going to get better and better because he's an exceptional athlete. >> he certainly has all the
10:14 pm
physical gifts and another thing we cannot forget about collin kaepernick. you talk about aaron rogers having the experience of having played in the bay. where collin kaepernick went to school nevada reno he played in some extremely cold weather games. not only that if you look at it statistically we don't have time to go through it now. google it, he had his best games in his college career in the coldest weather games including that big upset in overtime against boise state 2010. >> i didn't know that but that's good to know and i feel better about the game now. >> that's part of my job. but doesn't matter what we have to say. i would like to hear what his peers and teammates have to say about collin kaepernick and leadership for the 49ers as quarterback. >> it's easy just to give up. sometimes you go to adversity. and kind of let yourself off but he didn't do that. we didn't give up on him he didn't give up on us. he didn't give up on himself most of all. >> it's great to have the
10:15 pm
support of your teammates especially your defense. when they say we have you covered you can really go out and just try to make plays. you don't have to worry about something is not quite right or something doesn't work because i mean our defense is great. they do a lot of great things for us. >> all right, collin kaepernick back at it in the postseason. he's been thrown into some stuff in his brief career already at the super bowl last year against baltimore. and now imparting on another trip to the postseason. the pressure doesn't get any higher. >> i think he can answer it. he went through that last year and he said today, in his interviews that you know going through the play offs he thinks that helped get him ready for that big stage. i'm comfortable with that. >> i wonder if he'll be ready for that weather. like i said, you know reno can -- >> chilly there too. >> can reap some lows and here are some comments with some of the players according to some
10:16 pm
of those cold winter games like it will be on sunday. >> i think we live in it. we're around it. i don't think you ever get used to it. i think some of you guys have lived here all your lives and you don't get used to being negative five or whatever it is. >> i don't think my dream was to play in freezing weather. but to be in the play offs and have this opportunity, yes it's part of the dream. >> it helps but, i think everybody is going to be cold. it's not going to be any different for either team regardless of where they're coming from. they're still going to be cold and so are we. >> yeah everybody is going to be cold. i'm going to be cold watching it in this nice warm studio. >> we'll be sitting here with sweatshirts on. >> i don't feel a bit guilty about it. but as we assess it. your thoughts about what it will take for the 49ers to get out on the road, a lot of guys who have never experienced cold to this degree. what is it going to take to come back with a victory. >> i think pretty much what all the analysts say. in the play offs you have to
10:17 pm
run the ball. you have to stop the run. and particularly against green bay. you have to keep aaron rogers off the field. when he's on the field you have to pressure him. if hay do that i think they'll come home and have an extended play off series here. >> all right, well i look forward to working with you come sunday. >> sound good. >> in our cozy studio by the fire. in the meantime thanks for watching everybody. it is a road trip to the championship and it
