mornings on 2 this saturday. i'm claudine wong. >> i'm john, let's look at the weather with rosemary. good morning to you. a nice day in store. i'll have a check in with the air quality in your area coming up. it's freezing in some of the inland locations. i'll have a look at the fog in the bay and inside. there's a slight chance of a few scattered showers. i'll line up that futurecast model for you coming up. health officials have confirmed the first death in the swine flu that's, now, under way. a woman died december 23rd from the h1n1 flu. the swine flu has been reported including a 61-year-old woman in sacramento county. health officials say there's still time to get a flu shot. it causes deaths nationwide

mostly in patients over 65. they recommend flu shots for everyone six months of age or older. it includes the h1n1 flu and it takes six weeks for full protection to take effect. they'll be given from 11 to 2 p.m., and flu clinics will be held there every saturday until january 25th. 16 deaths are being blamed for a powerful winter storm. the heaviest snow fell in the town of boxford north of boston. 18 inches fell in boston and upstate new york. new york central park had 6 inches of snow. >> it's slick out there. it's hard to drive out there. the wind, the ice. there's still blowing of snow. that will affect visibility. if you do not need to travel today, please stay home.

>> the storm system is expected to bring the coldest air in two decades to the midwest and great plains. they're expected to face temperatures of 0 and below in the coming days. if you're flying today it may be a good idea to check the status of your flight because it is good to check thousands of flights. hundreds of flights have been cancelled at sfo and that number could climb throughout the day. the team received a warm send off to wisconsin. the trip, others plan to go to local bars to watch the game. they've been getting ready for the crowds the past few days. and sunday it's game could be one of the coldest games ever played. they're expected to be minus 2 degrees when they kick off with the windchill near minus 20 degrees. they're expected to drop as the night goes on. packers will give fans hand warmers. they're hands will stay warm for hours and they'll give out coffee and hot chocolate. you can watch the game on channel 2. it starts at 1:40 p.m. and we'll be live in lambo immediately after the game. a road trip to the championship, you can catch it this morning right after mornings on 2. one more hurdle to go before the ongoing bart labor dispute will be officially over. they ratified the new contract

with 37% voting yes, and 27% voting more. they approved that revised contract. the deal allows workers to take bereavement leave for more family members and allows reimbursement options to workers. they'll move the girl out of oakland on tuesday, the girl's family says there are issues to be worked out the exchange of paperwork for the removal of jahai. >> they'll give her to the coroner and then the coroner, if we fill out certain paperwork, then we're free to transport jahai. >> now, there's head movement.

now, you can go in and talk to her and she'll move. she doesn't respond -- she does respond to touch. a judge ruled that they could take her off life support on tuesday there is a hearing on tuesday and they could ask the judge to extend the order. there's a story we first reported on yesterday's morning news. a man who was struck and killed in daily city had been driving and stolen vehicle with a gun inside. he crashed a gmc into the center divider and then a civic slammed into him. he became combative with people trying to help. he tried to run away and he was hit by vehicles and a small caliber gun and bb gun was in that suv. a man was killed in santa rosa, a wooden alter caught

tuesday into wednesday and a slight possibility of a few scattered showers. temperatures will be a lot cooler in the afternoon, but with the clouds the overnight lows come up a few degrees. i will show you the futurecast model on the possibility of a few showers coming our way coming up. a seven-year-old girl who was kidnapped outside of her antioch home is back home with the family this morning. the man was arrested outside of police headquarters. we have where the suspect was caught. alex? >> reporter: it was an alert witness who spotted the accused get away car here in the arena. it was an undercover police officer on the look-out who moved in and we're not using the name of the victim because it's unclear exactly what happened to her after she was taken. 43-year-old davis douglas is behind bars after accused of

kidnapping this girl. he followed the victim and her mother home from a nearby wal- mart around 8:00 last night. douglas grabbed the girl threatened her mother with a rifle and then drove off. an amber alert was issued for his and toyota camry and several hours later a woman saw a car that was parked and she told us she saw a man inside of that car. she had a bad feeling and began to honk her horn and that's what alerted an undercover police officer who was driving by. >> i'm blessed to help somebody else. i'm thankful that i was there, and i think everything happens for a reason. there was a reason i was there and there was a reason why i didn't go to that man's window. he had a gun and he could have shot me. >> the accused kidnapper, in this case, has a criminal

history, but is not a registered sex offender. it comes on the heels of an attempted kidnapping a day earlier and it happened at the same wal-mart store where this victim was shopping with their mother. in this case, store surveillance video was key for identifying the accused kidnapper and go iting a description of the get away car. . time now 7:12, big concerns for the sierra, what was discovered during yesterday's snow survey and whether officials think the region will recover. >> a security breach having major impact this morning. what it means for those receiving government assistance. >> taking a look right now, this is the toll plaza that's actually a picture leading into

. good morning to you, giving you a live look, the hazy skies, the sunrise 7:25 this morning. unseasonably mild weather continues for today. they are cleaning up the fire in san francisco. repairs were made in front of the building. someone splashed gasoline on the steps and set it on fire. a security camera across the street showed the front of the building going up in flames. they're examining security video. no one has claimed responsibility and no one has

been arrested. 56-year-old skier was killed after colliding with a snowboarder and being knocked into a tree. it happened on december 21st. she was not wearing a helmet. she was born in boston. many are worried about the lack of snow here. they show us the numbers, and what it would take to get us back to normal. >> snow shoes, typically a staple of the january snow survey, but this year, hiking boots would do. there's just not that much snow. >> still i see. >> frank with the department of water resources measured the snow. >> at several points in this field, noting depth and water content. >> take it and divide it by 12.

>> the snow pack is just 20% plaintiff normal for january, and it reflects the fact that we've had minimal storm activity this year over the entire sierra, the snow pack is 19% of average. the numbers tell you the story, but you know you're in trouble at the january snow survey if you're without a jacket and no gloves and no snow shoes on a bright warm sunny day. rocks and snow stumps, compare this to last year when there was four feet of snow in this very same spot yet it was a bad snow pack year. we had a great december last year and then things shut off. >> the scant snow that's on the ground now will likely soak into the soil before it goes into run off and depleted reservoirs. 20% of normal in january, can

surveillance programs. he's calling on phone companies and internet providers to stop the nasa from examining records. he wants people to join in on the class action lawsuit. the nasa programs are legal, they have determined. he's expected to run for the white house in 2016 a this could be a tactic for support. the first order business must be to extend emergency benefits to americans. >> we don't want to abandon our fellow americans when times are tough. we keep the faith with them until they start this new job. >> it was cool that they left for the holiday without passing extension for the holidays. a bipartisan group is looking at an extension of unemployment benefits. the republicans say they'll pass the measure if they're offsetting spending cuts. >> the president and first lady

. on thursday, the chinese crew used a helicopter to use dozens of passengers. now, it appears that ship has become trapped in the ice as well and is unable to move. they have plenty of dismiss, and they hope to break through once that weather improves. they could have more aircraft to help fight wildfires. there will be 22 military aircraft to help battle wildfires. most of them are expected to be deployed west where a prolonged drought could make a prolonged fire season this year. compare that to 44 tankers back in 2002. they're challenging gun laws in san francisco and sunnyvale will be heard separately. they want to combine the cases

through the morning hours. right now, it's 20% and it looks like the best possibility will come over parts of the north bay and stay north of i80, but we're several days out and we could wish for more. let's just do that and hope it comes our way. that again coming in tuesday night, perhaps lasting nor wednesday morning. right now 32 degrees in santa rosa. you're looking at 45 in oakland and for the afternoon temperatures warming into the low to mid-60s. temperatures will be warmer in most areas than what we had yesterday. some of us may break a record as we continue with this near record warmth. the bay area record, it's always in view, sunny and then the clouds move in monday, temperatures are dropping off, upper 50s in the forecast on tuesday and midweek wednesday. i'll have a look at your current temperatures coming up.

the golden state warriors are the hottest team in the nba. >> they've got it, we've got it and the warriors win! they won 101-100. they knocked out the world champion miami heat. they rallied from a 15-point deficit to notch their eighth street victory. the last time they won 9 games in a row was 1991. the hockey team added fans and touches to their ice. they invited families to paint the ice. they created a huge icy mural which makes it hard to follow the puck. they played the bulls on the decorated ice. >> that is superfancy. >> from the warrants of the bay area. how 49er fans are preparing to

. how they were able to be bring this girl back to safety. welcome back. it is saturday january 4th. >> she was smashed from her mother last night. within hours the police recovered this 7-year-old girl and arrested her alleged and duck tore. the scary episode ended in arena. >> police believe the accused kidnapper may have tried to abduct another child just yesterday. that was an unsuccessful attempt. this little girl was rescued by an undercover police officer who was spotted here in antioch. we're not using the name of this victim. it's unclear what took place after she was taken. this morning 43-year-old david douglas is behind bars accused of kidnapping the little girl. police say he followed the victim and her mother back home from a nearby wal-mart.

this was at 8:00 last night. investigators say douglas grabbed the girl and threatened her mother with a rifle and drove off. an amber alert was issued for a and toyota camry and several hours a woman spotted a car parked near the antioch marina. she could see someone inside and had a bad feeling. >> i walked around the car, but my sister said be careful because the guy has a gun. i was going to knock on the window and i saw another car pull up. >> last night's abduction comes on the heels of an attempted kidnapping just a day earlier and it happened at that same wal-mart store where last night's victim had been shopping with her mother. police believe douglas was behind those crimes, store surveillance in connection with both of those cases is key with respect to the kidnapper and

getting a description of the car he was driving in. the accused kidnap in this case does have a criminal history, but is not a registered sex offender. . >> here's a look at some of the top stories we're following for you this morning. they have confirmed the death of a swine flu in the area. a woman died december 23rd from complications from the swine flu. two other swine flu deaths have been reported in california. blizzard conditions brought 16 deaths. right now there are 15 flights that have been cancelled at sfo that number could climb throughout the day. the family planned to move the 13-year-old out of oakland children's hospital on tuesday.

some paperwork must be finalized before jahi can be moved. they could take her off life support next tuesday. a family in hawaii is prepared to say good-bye to a three-year-old girl who was at the dentist for root canal daughter. she was to get four root canals. she was not monitored properly and she went into cardiac arrest and slipped into a coma. they moved her to hospice, but her condition continues to get worse. >> i made the decision to ask them to increase the combination of drugs that she's on to put her in a more restful state. >> the family's attorneys said they should have been checking the oxygen levels, records said she wasn't checked for 26 minutes which led to extensive

brain damage. two are on administrative leave after they shot a suspect. there was an argument on the 1800 block of cape horn drive. one had a knife and refused to put it down. >> the office her no other choice, but to discharge her firearm in the direction of the suspect. >> the man's identity has not been released. he's expected to survive. they're on standard leave pending an investigation into that shooting. police have released the name of what homicide victim. sanchez of san jose was found face down in san jose thursday morning. sanchez was and to the hospital, but died a short time later. investigators do not think the shooting was gang-related. >> we know the name of a person who was hit and killed by a

dump truck. a man was killed and a man seriously hurt. the truck driver told investigators he did not seal the couple. the intersection is one of the most dangerous in the city because it's so congested. a man is recovering after being hit by a car in the lower nobody hill avenue. that happened. they hit the man in the crosswalk. they're cooperating with police and the victim is expected to recover. that happened just one block from where another man was hit by a car and seriously hurt on thursday night. >> flashing lights have got up at a dangerous crosswalk. here's video of the intersection before the improvements were made. family members call for new safety measures. two cousins age 12 and 13 were hit by a driver halloween

. good morning to you, giving you a live look into jack london square. patches of fog around the bay area this morning. 62 degrees for oakland. a south florida home is buzzing, did you get that. buzzing with activity after workers found those guys, 100,000 honey bees living in the wall. those bees have been living inside her house for about 8 years. now, she says she's tried to get rid of them with foam and insect killer. the heavy has grown inside and they're coming into the house and stinging people. >> i don't know if it's two hives, one, the queen and the dutch he he is and everything. >> she's been patient. they removed parts of the wall and the honey comb that was

underneath it. they say that honey comb is gone, the bees should leave as well and she's not going to see them go. >> the supervisor is raising questions about insurance policies after a young girl was killed by a driver for uber. he's accused of hitting and selling sofia and injuring her mother and brother. he is a driver for uber but he was not given a ride at the time of the crash. uber is insured for $1 million per incident, but it goes into effect once he has accepted a ride request. >> a driver that's out on the street that's waiting to called into the system. they're not just talking and waiting for a phone call. >> he was raising for a fare at the time of the crash. they are required to insure

drivers with or without fares. 49-year-old ordained minister was riding in a ford expedition when a crash happened. she died at the scene. the driver of the vehicle a decon said another car caused the accident. they have been unable to locate that other car. hollywood is mourning the date of a bay area man responsible for oscar winning films. one flew over the coo-coo's name am day us and likeliness of beans. he received one of the highest honors from the motion picture academy for his consistently high quality of motion picture production. they're asking for the public's help for the missing teenager. 16-year-old was last seen

between midnight and 5:00 a.m. he's considered at risk because he has a medical condition. he is 6 feet tall and 6-foot and he may be wearing shoes with zip ties instead of shoelaces. the event will be held january 16th from 5 to 9 p.m. at the bar in more gain hill. he disappeared in march on her way to school. she has been hardener murder but her body has never been recovered. the cotton bowl bandit has been arrested. they filed an amended complaint to include ten other bank robberies. he was seen on surveillance video wearing a hat with a

riding in a ford expedition when it crashed and rolled over. she died at the scene. a deacon from another car hit the expedition causing the accident. the investigators have been unable to locate that other car. a suspected robber is facing new charges. christopher wooden was shot and arrested last month after a bank robbery and chase in nevada. they include ten other bankruptcies. investigators say that's called the cotton ball bandit he was seen on surveillance video wearing a hat with cotton ball on top. a van creating supplies for the diablo family market. their van was stolen from elk grove road. the biggest loss is the children's craft tables.

douglas is behind bars, accused of kidnapping the girl from outside of her home. police say he followed the victim and her mother back from a nearby wal-mart around 8:00. investigators say douglas grabbed the girl, threatened her mother with a rifle, then drove off. police pulled surveillance video from the wal-mart store and got the license plates on that getaway car and an amber alert was issued for a tan toyota camry. several hours later, a woman spotted a car with a similar description parked near the antioch marina. police moved in, found the girl and arrested douglas. now, investigators believe that he may have tried to abduct another child just a day earlier. that happened at the same wal- mart store. >> this individual who has been identified is a person we have in custody this evening, approached her daughter and also approached her and noted he worked for social services and asked the daughter to come

with him. >> reporter: investigators say after that failed abduction attempt, douglas grew more bold, ultimately using a gun last night to take the 7-year- old girl. antioch's police chief tells ktvu the accused kidnapper in the case does a criminal history, but he is not a registered sex offender. police say surveillance video from the wal-mart store was instrumental in this case, helping police figure out the license plates and the description of the car they were looking for with the girl inside. live this morning in antioch, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2news. police in fairfield are investigating a deadly shooting in a residential neighborhood. it happened around 8:00 last night at parkway gardens on san lucas drive. police have not released information about the circumstances of the shooting or the victim. anyone with information is asked to contact fairfield police. san francisco police have made an arrest in the murder of a tourist back in 2010. san francisco chronicle reports

21-year-old devonta laws was taken into custody on thursday, suspected of being accessory to a shooting death. six other suspects have been charged with murder in the same case. police believe they were in the same western edition gang. relatives of jahi mcmath say they will move the girl out of children's hospital oakland by tuesday. the girl's family says there are still several issues to be worked out, such as exchange of paperwork between the hospital and the undisclosed facility that will care for jahi. a judge announced yesterday that mcmath's family and children's hospital have worked on a set of procedures for the transfer. >> the hospital will give jahi to the coroner. then the coroner will give to us after we fill out the paperwork. then we are free to transport jahi. >> went to the top, now it's head movement and you can go in there and talk to her and she'll move. she definitely responds to touch. >> earlier this week, a judge ruled that children's hospital

. a chinese crew involved in a rescue in antarctica may need help, too. on thursday, the crew used a helicopter to rescue dozens of passengers from a stranded russian ship. now the chinese ship is stuck and can't move. the captain says the ship has plenty of supplies and hopes to break free once the better gets better. a provision in a new defense bill calls for the forest service to receive 22 military aircraft to help battle wildfires. most of those planes are expected to deploy here to the west, where a prolonged drought could make for a very long fire season this year. the forest service does need those new planes. it only had eight last year, compared to 44 tankers in 2002. two national rifle association lawsuits challenging gun laws in san francisco and sunnyvale will be heard separately. the cities wanted to combine

behind bars. welcome back to mornings on 2. i'm claudine wong. >> i'm john sasaki in for mike mibach. she was snatched from her mother last night, but within hours, antioch police recovered the 7-year-old girl and arrested her alleged abductor. alex savidge joins us live from the antioch marina where the scary episode ended. >> reporter: good morning. police say the man they have in custody may have tried to abduct another girl just a day earlier also here in antioch. last night, he grew more bold, snatching the 7-year-old girl at gunpoint right in front of her mother. ultimately, she was found inside a car with the accused kidnapper here in the parking lot of the antioch marina. now, we are no longer using the victim's name, because it's unclear what may have happened to her while she was missing. this morning, 43-year-old david douglas is behind bars, accused of kidnapping the little girl from right outside of her home last night. police say he followed the victim and her mother home from a nearby wal-mart, where they went for a shopping trip.

this happened at about 8:00. investigators say douglas grabbed the girl, threatened her mother with a rifle, then drove off with her. police pulled surveillance video from the store and they were able to get license plates on that getaway car. an amber alert was issued for a tan toyota camry. several hours later, a woman spotted a car with that similar description parked at the antioch marina. she says she saw someone inside the car and thought things didn't seem right. >> saw someone laying in the back seat, so what we did was i got out the car and i walked around the car, but my sister said be careful because the guy has a gun. i was going to knock on the window. then i saw another car pull up. >> reporter: now, police think douglas was also behind an attempted abduction that happened on thursday at that same wal-mart store where the girl and her mother had been shopping last night before they were followed. police say surveillance video from that store was instrumental in this case, helping police figure out the

license plates and the description of the car they were looking for. antioch's police chief tells ktvu the accused kidnapper, who is behind bars, does have a criminal history, but is not a registered sex offender. live this morning in antioch, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2news. two santa fe police officers are on administrative leave this morning, after one shot a man. police responded to a call about an argument between two men on the 1800 block of kay port drive yesterday afternoon. when officers arrived, one of the men had a knife and refused to put it down. >> the officer had no other choice, but to go ahead and discharge her firearm in the direction of the suspect. >> the man, whose identity has not been released, was taken to the hospital. he is expected to survive. the officer who opened fire, as well as the other officer on the scene are now on standard leave, pending an investigation. san jose police released the name of the city's first homicide victim of 2014. 36-year-old juan rios sanchez of san jose was found face-down

in the driveway of a duplex in east san jose early thursday morning. he been shot at least once. sanchez was rushed to the hospital, but died a short time later. investigators say they don't think the shooting was gang related. we now know the identity of the person who was hit and killed by a dump truck in san rafael yesterday afternoon. 64-year-old olga rodriguez was hit and killed and a man was seriously hurt after they were hit in the crosswalks. the driver told investigators he didn't see the couple. police say the intersection is one of the most dangerous in the city because it is so congested. in san francisco, a man is recovering after being hit by a car in the city's lower knot hill neighborhood. it happened about 10:30 yesterday morning on bush and hyde streets. police say an suv making a left turn hit the man in a crosswalk. the driver stopped and is cooperating with police. it happened just one block from where another man was hit by a car and seriously injured thursday night. flashing lights have gone up at a dangerous crosswalk where a 68-year-old woman was killed last year. this is video of the intersection in clover dale before improvements were made.

family members called for the improvements after a driver struck the woman near the fairgrounds. two cousins were also hit by a driver halloween night in the same crosswalk. they spent weeks in the hospital, undergoing multiple surgeries. this morning, volunteers will rebuild a memorial for a teenager shot and killed by sheriffs deputy in santa rosa. investigators say a wooden altar honoring andy lopez accidentally caught fire from a burning candle. there was speculation the fire had been intentionally set. last october, lopez was in the field, walking with a replica assault rifle when a deputy shot and killed him. investigators say the deputy mistook the fake gun for a real weapon. health officials have confirmed the first death from the swine flu in the bay area as the flu season is now under way. the santa clara county health department says a 41-year-old woman died december 23rd from complications of the h1n1 virus. two other swine flu deaths have been reported statewide, including a 61-year-old woman in sacramento county.

. a live view there in and over south san francisco, portions of the bay this morning reporting patchy thick fog. a look at today's top stories, kidnapping suspect david douglas is behind bars this morning, accused of abducting a 7-year-old girl from outside her home in antioch. the police chief sent out a later praising his department for tracking down douglas and returning the girl to her family. he had the pleasure of telling the parents their daughter was safe and the suspect in custody. a powerful winter storm has brought blizzard conditions to the northeast and midwest, killing 15. travelers are stranded across the country. 24 flights have been canceled at sfo, but officials warn the number could climb throughout the day. health officials confirmed the first death from swine flu in the bay area. santa clara county health

department says a 41-year-old woman died december 223 from complications from the swine flu. two other swine flu deaths have been reported, including a 61- year-old woman in sacramento county. the family of jahi mcmath plans to move the 13-year-old girl out of oakland children's hospital by tuesday. both sides have agreed to a set of procedures. some paperwork must be finalized before the brain-dead girl can be transferred to a long-term care facility. earlier this week, a judge ruled children's hospital could take jahi off life support this coming tuesday. well, just about an hour ago, we learned that a 3-year- old girl in hawaii in a coma since going to the dentist has died. finley boyle's mother took her daughter to get four root canals. during the procedure, finley was given an overdose of sedatives and was not monitored properly. she did go into cardiac arrest and slipped into the coma. finley's mother says they moved her to hospice, but her condition got worse. >> i mean, they increased the

combination of drugs she's on to put her into a more restful state. >> again, we have now learned that she has passed away. the family attorney says the doctor's office should have been checking finley's oxygen levels every 5 minutes, but says records show that she was not checked for 26 minutes, which led to the extensive brain damage. more than 4000 people gathered on an australian beach today to protest a new shark policy. last month, the western australian government announced that fishermen could catch and kill any large great white tiger or bull sharks. interested fishermen will need to apply for a license. the lines will be placed less than a mile offshore and any shark caught will be shot and disposed of at sea. this comes after seven fatal shark attacks in three years, but protesters say it will upset the ocean's ecosystem. police say 16-year-old samuel brisk was last seen between midnight and 5:00 a.m.

dollars per incident, but the coverage only goes into effect once a driver has accepted a ride request. >> a driver out on the street waiting to be called into the system, they are not just parking their car and waiting for a phone call. >> the san francisco examiner reports the driver was waiting for a fare at the time of the crash. taxi companies are required to insure drivers when they are even without fares. the chp is looking for anyone who witnessed a deadly highway crash in oakland on new year's day. 49-year-old ordained minister bobby baker was riding in a ford expedition when it crashed and rolled over on interstate 580. she died at the scene. the driver of the vehicle says another car hit the expedition, causing the accident. investigators have been unable to locate the other car. a suspected serial bank robber in marin county known as the cotton ball bandit faces new charges. he was shot, then arrested last month after a bank robbery and chase in novato. yesterday, the da filed amended
