for everyone. i am tori campbell. we are following where a student was shot near a school. we will have that in just a moment. we begin with a massive warehouse fire that is burning all morning long in the south bay. >> they are getting the upper hand against the massive fire in san jose. it jumped to five alarms after being reported this morning. we will hear from our reporter. we will hear the latest on the fire with janine de la vega.

>> the smoke is still rising from the warehouse. fire is caked and they are dumping water on the here. it is still burning inside. >> >> reporter: that was a sound earlier this horning. it gone at 5:40 in a 120,000-foot commercial warehouse that contained multiple businesses. >> they believe the fire started in a tile and roof company and it started spreading and quickly grew to five alarms. plumbing, sheet rom and hay company. >> they had to attack the flames from outside. they used aerial ladders to douse all the flames. it was surreal and frightening site for those nearby. >> within 20, 30 feet. you can feel the heat and you

keep hearing buildings that are buckling. and the chemicals. and igniting and stuff like that. >> it is embers and stuff flying in the air on top of cars. >> fire officials believe it kale from propane tanks and possibly from a transformer that blew. the fire affected the lights at julian street and the homes in the surrounding area. >> firefighters were able to knock down the fire. they have been unable to determine what caused the fire to ignite. >> it will be under investigation. >> i know we are all out asking questions for any witnesses that will be able to come forth. >> as far as actually knowing. we won't know until we get crews inside. >> fire officials are worried about the integrity of the warehouse. >> so, they are unsure how the building is going to hold up.

>> making sure all the hot spots are out and this fire does not spark up again. >> as far as the fire situation goes, it is 1600 people that are still without electricity right now. and the fire department is working with pg&e and this area, they are telling people to avoid the area. they are going to be here on scene conducting the investigation and making sure this fire is completely extinguished for the next couple of hours. >> janine de la vega. thank you. there is a situation where a student is shot in oakland. we are joined now with that situation. here is paul chambers. >> reporter: we are on fontaine street and i can tell you it happened at 10:00 in the morning. this is what it looked like

this morning. police say after 10:00, heavy police presence was outside the school. we are told the student either got shot on the bus or as he was getting off the bus. it was a few feet away from the school. >> either way, police say the high school student was struck. and ran on to campus and asked for help. >> someone from the school oakland ped the young man where he is expected to survive. >> for the students and the staff. they were put on lock down for a short period of time. >> they tell me. there are three different schools within the campus and # security officers that work the school. >> although it happened outside the school. it is to make sure all the students are safe. > >> that concerns us. we have to look after them and we have to take care of the school and make sure that

students are safe. > >> reporter: as of right now, they don't have a motive and we will stay on top of this as it develops. >> paul chambers. channel 2 nows. a man accused of kidnapping a 7-year-old girl is charged with sex crimes. he made his first appearance and he is charged with committing a lewd act object a child. kidnapping with a deadly weapon along with three counts of kidnapping. those attempts happened the day before he was able to kidnap the #-year-old girl. he is charged with possession of child pornography. he is being held on more than # million dollars bail. in just about an hour and a half, torres will be in court. he was arrested after

you can see how close we are to the fire. it as devastating scene at the warehouse and they did a remarkable job from keeping it spread out into the community. >> one of the schools in the neighborhood that should down for the day. >> all because of the fire which took place only a block away. >> most of the damage was confined to the area. and closed off. and one teacher and so early in the morning. >> that would have been a way worse situation. the good thing the school is fine and everybody got out safe. >> fire officials say five homes were partially damaged.
