always something we had a minor crash. and slowing already on westbound 580 as you go over the hill. let's go back to the desk. we start with breaking news this morning. fire crews are responding to two fires reported within minutes and blocks of each other. the first was reported at 3:30 this morning. we do have a news crew on the way to the scene. we will bring you more details as soon as they become available. santa rosa police are investigating a possible homicide after a man was found dead inside a home last night. alex savidge is joining us now with what brought police to

that home. >> reporter: someone inside that home placed a 911 call just before 9:00 last night. and that triggered a huge response. we will give you a live look at the scene. it is still an active crime scene. this is where they discovered a man's body inside last night. let me show you some video of the scene. it appears he was the victim of a gunshot. investigators treating this as a homicide. investigator also did just tell me it is possible that this case could involve gang activity. this house is on the 1200 block of mar bell court. according to one report this would be santa rosa's third homicide in the past three weeks. this scene is also just a block away from where a teenager was stabbed back in november.

attacked near the back of the middle school. still an active crime scene investigation. investigators with santa roe sal violent crime. investigator just told me a short time ago they are still searching for the person responsible. live in santa rosa alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. one person has been killed. that happened around 1:30 this morning. the cause of the crash is being investigated. health officials strongly urging people to get a flu vaccine with nine deaths now reported in the bay area from the h1n1 virus. yesterday alone we learned of four more deadly cases of h1n1 in sonoma, san mateo, and in santa clara county.

at santa rosa memorial hospital more than a dozen people are showing up every shift with flu symptoms. doctors say they really don't know why the infection hit some people harder than others causing pneumonia, respiratory distress, and even organ failure. >> its fever, chills, i mean really shaking type chills where uncontrol blue shaking. shaking-- uncontrol blue shaking. the uc berkeley they are trying to stop the spread of the flu. >> when people come back, they bring their germs with them. students will be arriving from

flu from the northeast where it has been cold and dry and they will a housing setting where they will be hugging and shaking hands and sharing cups and influenza. >> the flu vaccine this year does cover the h1n1 strain. it takes about two weeks for the vaccine to become effective. now peak activity for the flu is usually early february. also this morning the defense for a 16-year-old boy accused of setting another teenager on fire will ask the judge to send the case to juvenile court. on november 4th richard thomas set flashman on fire. police say thomas said he did it because he is homophobic. right now thomas is being charged as an adult for aggravated mayhem and felony assault. classmates of brain dead oakland teenager on life support jahi mcmath are showing support for their friend.

the principal sent us these pictures of jahi mcmath's classmates. the students wore t-shirts that read team j j -- team jahi. her family believes the ventilator and feeding tube are keeping her alive. firefighters say lint in a dry may have sparked a fire that destroyed a san jose town home. eight people were displaced by the fire which started at about 6:00 last night at a townhouse off trinidad drive. one neighbor captured the cell phone video of the huge fire. >> its scary. its about five houses down and to think it started from a drier machine and possibly the lint. it is so scary. >> three people were inside the home where the fire started. but were not hurt. one firefighter was treated for a stress restress related injury. the san jose fire department may lose $2 million

in funding because of inadequate response times to medical emergencies. santa clara county says in the past 14 months crews have responded within eight minutes only 88% of the time. county supervisors could penalize san jose by pulling a $2.1 million funding. 4:36 is the time. people in contra costa county are being warned about a sheriffs department imposter. the suspect calls people claiming to be lieutenant jackson of the warrant unit. he tells them they are being fined for a traffic violation or for failing to appear for jury duty. but he says they have to pay by phone or face arrest. deputies want you to know this is a scam. there is no one by that name nor is there a warrant unit. people living in san leandro and martinez are the latest to

come forward. the principal of continuation high school plans to meet with police today after an 18-year-old student was shot at a bus stop near the school. the student was able to walk to the school for help and rushed to the hospital. now police locked down the campus while they searched for a suspect. no arrests have been made and the shooting has left many students worried. >> i can't believe it is now on our campus. it is hard for me to wonder why its happening. >> the school for the principal says he has asked for a bigger police presence near the campus. the san jose historical landmark commission is nominating the century 21 theater as a potential city landmark. the domes were built in 1964. property owners want to demolish the feeder and develop the property. but a preservation group has gatt ered more than 4 gosh

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. we have new information in the investigation of an attempted kidnapping in oakland. police have created this sketch of the suspect. he is described as african american in his 20s. he is about 5'7" to 5'8" tall and weighs 180 pounds. during the new years night attack he wore a gray hooded parka. the victim says he smelled like

cigarettes. the 19-year-old woman told investigators that the suspect grabbed her as she walked on 17th street near jackson not far from lake merit. and he was also carrying a gun. as he was dragging her she fell to the ground and that is when she was able to escape. 2 investigates unusual details about an ann too much man that is accused of kidnapping a man. david douglas attempted to but unsuccessful in kidnapping three other children the day before. other records show douglas was struggling with his family and stepfather requested a restraining order against douglas two months ago. douglas told us he did have a falling out with his family. >> my mom and i had a falling out so i've been living out of my car in the marina. >> the restraining order request was denied. douglas says he has been trying to get psychological help.

it forced people living in more than a dozen homes. >> they thought the whole house was going to go up. the flames were so close and by looking at the picture you can see it it will up that whole area and it was pretty scary. >> now the fire also forced nearby schools to close down for the day. firefighters are still investigating the cause of that fire. homeland security says inspectors stopped an agricultural threat from passing through sfo. the government released these images of a stink bug. five of the pests were discovered last week on a shipment of fresh basil from mexico. >> they eat plants. they devastate crops. they propagate. they all start to multiply and of course grow and eventually invade our crops. >> they are rare and

thank you, sal. good morning, everybody. i have a pretty good forecast for tomorrow. a lot different than last sunday that is for sure. 55 it looks like game time temp. they do have rain there today. excuse me this is saturday if you are traveling. for us it looks like a beautiful day once we get cranked up here. a little bit of patchy fog. high pressure comes in for one day. we will have a system moving in tomorrow. it will be the last one for awhile. sunshine and a little warmer today. highs low to mid 50s. system coming in tomorrow will give us cloud cover. there will be drizzle on the coast. it will be cooler. highs will go back into the upper 50s. plenty here the jet stream takes aim. coming down out of the northwest. overall high pressure is a fair our weather friend today. 30s and 40s and 50s.

teenager along 23rd street corridor who he recognized from last year. they started talking and she gave him information that led to a prostitution ring in hayward. >> we went to the hotel and able to identify the two male suspects that kidnapped her. >> the girl identified 23-year- old ronnie mack brown. the girl is now in protective custody of social services. a six hour police standoff in gilroy finally ended with the surrender of a robbery suspect. that started at yesterday morning. a man suspected of an armed robbery until vacaville refused to leave his room. three women and three children were also in that room. police evacuated motel guests as negotiators spent six hours convincing the man to surrender. another suspect could not be

located. the children are now in protective custody. now 4:55. a santa clara county judge has granted another delay for a man accused of kidnapping and killing sierra lamar. suspect appeared in court yesterday afternoon. he was arrested in may of 2012 after sierra went missing. that was 20 months ago and torres still has not entered a plea. yesterday his defense attorney was granted another delay until march for more study of the evidence. thousands more international documents are scheduled to be released today in the new jersey traffic scandal that governor chris christie says has embarrassed and humiliated him. he fired a top aid for orchestrating a four-day traffic jam. the mayor did not support christie's reelection bid. in an e-mail the now fired aid writes quote time for traffic problem this is in fort lee.
