setting the fires. joining us from san jose this morning, we will hear about any activity going on. >> these are the firefighters who responded and this morning they are getting much needed rest and so far no suspicious fires and that makes it two mornings in a row. people who live in the downtown area have gotten a message and there have been some arsons in a five-day period. numerous residents have gotten there to be on the lookout and a sketch of him has been circulated around which resembles a man caught on surveillance video either setting the fires where some have broken out.

news. a red flag warning for the east bay hills, and it comes after a brush fire broke out in fairfield but it was quickly contained. it is rare to have a red flag warning in the month of january but parts of the bay area could see wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour today. >> it is possible to see a fire today and we are asking everybody to be extremely careful during these times. >> they have planes ready for use in chico and they have also hired back some of the seasonal firefighters and alex savage is already out this morning and he will have much more on the fire threat coming up at 6:30. they are electing to clear

higher elevations. a fire broke out in fairfield but crews were able to get a handle on it. we of course would have had more rain but that would have eliminated the threat of a brush fire but caltrans has hired back some of its seasonal firefighters and 25 of them will be ready to go at least until we get some rain. >> until we see some significant rainfall, we have that mechanism in place to keeping our additional staffing available to us. so i do not see an end tonight this unless we get that rainfall. >> cal fire has several helicopters ready to go and they have other aircraft ready to fly if need be. this red flag warning remains

to and so far no suspicious fires in this area and that makes two areas in a row where the serial arsonist has not struck so far and that's a relief to the firefighters who work at fire station 8. people who live in the area who have been plagued with this are keeping their porch lights on and they are looking for a man they are calling a person of interest. a sketch has been circulating because he has been setting the fires and with so many people watching now, he is laying low. >> next time he goes out, he will wait for things to quiet down and i hope they get him. >> in all 13 fires have been confirmed arson. and that leaves some residents

. welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news, this morning we are getting a look at surveillance video from a shooting involving an off-duty police officer in the bay view district. this happened saturday morning on bay shore boulevard. police say the incident began after an off-duty female sergeant got into offender bender on 280 and the two pulled into a station to

exchange information and they got into an argument with the officer drawing her gun but police say she opened fire in self-defense. >> while they were in conversation, the suspect punched the female sergeant in the face. >> the sergeant has been placed on administrative leave and the man who was shot is charged with battery on a police officer. former florida police captain is accused of shooting and killing a man who was texting in front of him in a movie theater. it happened last night and witnesses say charged olson was texting his daughter. the former police captain started arguing with olson and pulled out a gun and shot him. olson was shot in the chest and died at the scene. >> i can't believe people bring a gun to a movie. i can't believe they would argue and fight and shoot one
