hour. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." we have been live at this scene, an officer-involved shooting in oakland since 4:30 this morning. a chp officer shot a suspect. ktvu's alex savidge has been on the scene throughout the morning. he's gonna have an update for us in just a couple of minutes. thanks for joining us. i'm pam cook in for tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. steve, you know our forecast? >> i better, dave. [laughter] >> we have some patchy fog but it it looks like it's already retreating or running into resistance. cool, mild, mostly sunny, hazy skies. more records possible today. some of this warm air is really just sending some of this fog down the deck. it's very patchy. we do have some dense fog.

more than we saw yesterday. a few high clouds scooting by. overall, high pressure will win out. 20s, 30s, 40s. 37 half moon bay. 33 concord. and 38 up at sonoma airport. a lot of high clouds, mainly in southern california. for us, mostly sunny. above-average day on these temperatures. we'll see some records, upper 60, low 70s, except by the coast where it will be cooler. very mild to warm. here's sal. >> all right. we have a motorcycle crash in oakland on the transition ramp from 580 to the bridge. you can see oakland fire, chp and other emergency vehicles have the two left lanes of that ramp blocked. newschopper2 is now going to show us the backup on 580. this is going to add at least ten minutes to your drive time, maybe more depending upon where you are in this line. there's 580. 580 is backed up from highway 24, at least, as you can see tilting up. it looks like there's one more

emergency vehicle on the way trying to get to the backup. again, 580, not the best way too get to the bay bridge. get yourself on 80 westbound or 880 northbound as alternates. you will thank yourself for doing that. let's move along. a look at the alternates, again, here for you, as i -- let me get rid of this. let me see if i can move the map over here. you can see that 880 is not bad. it's a good way to get around the problem coming around here. let's go to a picture at the bay bridge toll plaza. because of the crash, it's lighter than usual. if you are come -- this is about a ten-minute delay into the toll plaza. another ten into the city. 7:03. back to the desk. right now, police are investigating an officer- involved shooting in oakland. alex savidge has been on that scene since 4:30 this morning. alex you have more on what caused chp officers to open fire. >> reporter: well, good morning. we're waiting for more information from oakland police. that department will be investigating this shooting because it happened within the

city limits. even though this was the chp pursuit. at least one officer opened fire on the driver of a car who refused to pull over early this morning. you can see here several streets blocked off in this neighborhood near east 15th street and 57th avenue. the chp is not saying what condition that driver is in, but from newschopper2 you can see what appears to be a body under a tarp. this chase started just before 3:00. near 580 and high street in oakland. according to an officer, the chp tried to stop the man's car because it didn't have any plates on it. the driver wouldn't pull over and then led two officers on a short case through the streets of oakland. this pursuit ended when that driver turned down a dead-end street, stopped his car and jumped out. that's when at least one officer opened fire. the chp won't say if the driver had a weapon of any kind. but we're told no officers were murt during all of this. an alameda shooting team will be investigating here along

with a chp shooting team. we've seen an oakland police spokesperson arrive at the scene. we're waiting for an update on this shooting involving a chp officer. this will likely be a lengthy investigation that will last several hours throughout the morning. live this morning in oakland, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> alex, thank you. 7:04. new this morning. dozens of people homeless after an early-morning fire in san jose. now, this was first reported at about 2:00 this morning at this apartment building on cadillac drive. no word of injuries yet but the flames caused a lot of damage to several units. right now, still not clear how the fire started. the red cross is there, helping the people who were forced out of their homes. this morning, caltrain is investigating a deadly accident that killed one person and seriously injured another. now, that happened yesterday evening north of the santa clara station. caltrain says the men were hit by a san francisco-bound train traveling at least 50 miles per

hour. one man died. the other was taken to valley medical center with serious injuries. witnesses say the survivor was lying on the tracks at the time of the collision. the man killed appeared to be leaning over the tracks in the path of the oncoming train. >> we need to understand what went on between the two victims and whether there was something more that needs to be investigated, and that's one of the things that we'll be able to talk with the second victim about it when he comes out of surgery. >> caltrain is reviewing video of the incident to try to piece together exactly what happened. this is caltrain's first deadly incident of the year. last year there were 13 fatalities on caltrain tracks. of those, seven were determined to be suicide. one was an accident. the rest are still under investigation. students are returning to class today at delmar high school in san jose following the death of a student. on friday morning, 14-year-old danica garcia was hit and killed by a vta light rail

train and died the at hospital. friends say she was riding her bike to school and most likely tried to beat the train. grief counselors will be there on campus today to talk to students. today, san francisco's municipal transportation agency will decide if commuter shuttle buses can use muni bus stops. ktvu's tara moriarty is live in now to tell us who will be speaking for and against this controversial idea. tara? >> reporter: you know, the idea isn't really controversy but it's the cost that both sides are trying to haggle out here at city hall. that will happen later today. each time a bus operator from a tech company like google again has to use the bus stop, it costs. oems argue that -- opponents argue that muni should get more money to help maintain the bus stops. tech crunch gave a copy of a

memo offers suggestion to shuttle drive riders to attend the meetings. if the shuttle program exist, says -- >> reporter: folks are starting to come alive at city hall. we are trying to get a reaction to see what folks think, if they think one dollar is enough or not. the meeting happens at 1:00. i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. nine claims have been filed now against the city of cloverdale stemming from last summer's deadly crosswalk accident. the children of 68-year-old maria ponsay have all filed claims saying the city didn't do enough to fix dangerous conditions at the crosswalk on south cloverdale. two boys were hit at that same

crosswalk on halloween. now, the claims will be considered by the city council tomorrow. earlier this month, the city installed a $60,000 flashing light system. it's for use on both sides of the sidewalk. people calling for safer streets will rally outside of san francisco's city hall today. 21 pedestrians and four cyclists were killed in crashes on san francisco streets last year. the san francisco bike coalition and walk san francisco are pushing the city to adopt a plane aimed at making the streets safer. after the noon rally, members plan to voice their concerns at the municipal transportation agency meeting. you will get a chance today to say how you feel about raises the tolls at the golden gate bridge. public hearings are started. the golden gate district says the toll hikes are needed to handle a growing deficit. if you use fastrack, it's a $7 toll by 2010. and anle 2k-8 toll for cars without fastrack.

welcome back. 7:13. well, tonight, members of the marin municipal water district will respond to california's official drought declaration. marin county is suffering after its driest year on record. the water district officials may call for a 20% voluntary cut back on water use. governor brown made that same

request statewide on friday when he formally declared a drought. the city of santa cruz already has mandatory water restrictions. people are required to blow or sweep their driveways and sidewalks instead of hosing them down. irrigation is only allowed before 10:00 p.m. and after 5:00 p.m. restaurants may only serve water if you ask for it. if water restrictions are ignored, fines may be imposed. there's a warning for your first offense. up to $500 for repeated waste in santa cruz. reports that the iranian navy has sent warships on a mission. they left on a three-month voyage. two years ago it planned to put warships in international waters off the u.s. coast within the next few years. security concerns for the olympics. police in russia distributed a flier, this one here as a woman

ever for wind craft. the company started producing pennants, towels, as soon as the game was over. it quickly started double production at the end of the nfc championship game. the company expects very big sales because this super bowl is based on the largest population center of the country. you can watch the super bowl right here on ktvu, sunday, february 2nd. the nfl may soon kick the extra point after touchdowns to the curb. commissioner roger goodell believes it slows down the game since pro kickers, they hardly ever miss. five out of 1200 extra points were missed in all of last season. well, goodell is considering a plan where a team would automatically get seven points for a touchdown. a team would only get six points if it goes for a two- point conversion and they fail. it would take 24 of the nfl's 32 teams to approve making that

change. 7:17. let's check in with sal for a look at traffic this morning. we have that big problem in oakland that we've been talking about. still, 580, two lanes blocked with this motorcycle and someone seriously injured. there's 580 approaching the macarthur maze getting down to the crash. i want to mention that 580 is backed up from before highway 24 and as our newschopper2 tilts down to see the crash, they are making some progress on 580 westbound. just kind of waiting for to to come around -- for it to come around. the chp issued a sig-alert for the crash that involved the motorcyclist. as we get to the crash here, it looks like the medics have left. looks like maybe oakland fire may be pulling out soon. these lanes are going to open up in just a few moments. but the damage is done. let's take a look at the bay bridge. cars aren't getting through -- cars are getting through. traffic is artificially

lighter. speaking of 880, southbound is slow from about a street heading on down to union city, slow again passing the dumbarton bridge. san mateo and dumbarton bridge, not all that bid. a bob ross painting here. it's a beautiful start to the morning. if you thought yesterday was nice, it was. it was record-setting warm and probably today. san francisco tied a record high. kentfield set one. oakland downtown, tell me something i don't know. another record high for downtown oakland. they will probably set another one today. the one that stand out is livermore. that broke the old mark of 70 way back in 1919. mountain view, 71. napa airport 71 were records. today it will be closer. 73 in downtown napa. that would be a record. livermore would fall three shy. san francisco, a little bit more fog, i think they will style still be mild to warm.

oakland, 68. the record is 67. that's probably a done deal. san jose, 70. that will be close. san francisco starting off 52. we'll have a lot of high clouds over us. a beautiful sunrise. we'll go 66. temperatures way above average. we should be 67 to 72. everyone is way above that. a few high clouds scooting in. a little bit of fog. it's a dry week. the cloud/rain forecast. it's a wall. just an everest of high pressure. 20s, 30s, 40s for us to 52 in san francisco. brutally cold throughout the great lakes. these are the current temperatures. windchills are 20, 25 below. it will even get colder thursday night and friday from that system dropping down which will reinforce the arctic blast. the snow is beginning 6 to 12 inches in parts of the northeast. it will end up with sunshine. a lot of 20s up into lake county. a couple of reports coming in. about 24 to 27 degrees. a little system right there. maybe enhancing some of that fog a wee bit. mostly sunny, fog near the coast, parts of the city.

thank you. a suspect is in custody after allegedly breaking into a san jose strip mall early this morning and hiding from police in an elevator shaft. ktvu's janine de la vega was the first reporter there as this story was developing. janine, you are back now to tell us how he was captured and what's happening out there right now. >> reporter: well, police are wrapping up their investigation here at this strip mall on hills dey. you are looking at -- hillsdale. you are looking at rope climbing equipment and the rope climbing equipment that you just saw was used by the suspect. i guess he accessioned the dispensary from the -- accessed the dispensary from the roof to steal all of these items now being taken into ed. let's go to video that we shot of the suspect being taken out of the building in handcuffs at about 6:00 this morning.

we are told he was found crouched in an elevator shaft of a dance studio in the strip mall. there are numerous businesses in the building but the burglary began and the marijuana collected and the alarm triggered. officers arrived and spotted what they thought were two suspects on the roof. they set up a perimeter and brought in a ladder so they could climb on the roof. they used k-9s and did a search inside which did alert them to one suspect hiding in the shaft. >> that was the hard part. we needed to force open the elevators and convince him to come down. it was apparently a small, cramped space. he was there for quite a while. at least 3 hours. >> police say it appears the suspect was hopping from business to business inside. they found broken glass and the stolen aisle tells from the dispensary. at this point, they didn't find any weapons yesterday. police say after their search

they believe the suspect did act alone. he's being booked into the county jail. back out to the live pictures. you are looking at more of the evidence of the marijuana, some edibles, other items, other paraphernalia taken from the hayes dispensary. i spoke to the owner. he said his business has been broken into several times. he said this was the worst and he was surprised that the suspect took the time to use ropes and climb up on the roof just to get into his collectives. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> 7:34. there was an earthquake just hours ago in sonoma county. a 3.6 magnitude quake hit about five miles northwest of the guysers in a geothermal area near healdsburg. so far no word of any damage. another major winter storm is roaring across parts of the country. want to show you video from

chicago where the snow began falling last night. you can see already a lot of snow on the roads. it's expected to bring several inches of snow and freezing temperatures. the city has highed more -- has hired more snow crews. back here in the bay area, thousands of flights have been canceled across the country and dozens right here. that number is expected to grow. ktvu's brian flores out at sfo with what passengers need to know. brian? >> reporter: hi, pam. we've seen these numbers grow this morning. i got the latest numbers from sfo, about 28 departing flights and 20 arriving flights. total of 48 flights affected from this winter storm that's affecting the midwest as you just saw and is making its way to the east coast. some cities being effected include washington dullus and reagan airports, newark, international, philadelphia, boston and the hardest hit airport in terms of cancellations, new york's

j.f.k. and la guardia. the winter storm plans to bring 4 to 8 inches of snow. whiffle and wind gusts will make travel very difficult this morning. this morning as well we've seen several passengers. some say they weren't notified until they got to the ticket counter this morning. >> they moved my flights 24 hours back and so i asked if there was any chance i could get back earlier and they told me that they could try to book me for a red eye flight. that will be canceled as well. some forecasters say this could be the most snow for them this winter so far. according to sfo, many east coast airports remain open and are ready to clear out snow. the airlines are taking this preemptive approach just in case the weather turns worse than predicted. forecasters are predicting snow. we've seen flights canceled there. we've checked in with oakland

and mineta san jose. it appears most of those flights. as is the case if you are headed to the airport, double check your flight status. we're live at sfo, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. after last week's blast of freezing weather in ohio it is now short on propane. the state's governor is issuing a state of emergency. that declaration should speed up deliveries by allowing trucks to be on the road for more hours and for more days in a row. people in ohio who rely on propane for heat say they haven't seen a shortage like this for 23 years. >> concerned now because we don't know when we're getting it. we don't know if we're getting it. all of the propane companies are kind of in the same boat. >> michigan's governor has declared a state of emergency because of a propane shortage. the state of emergency will continue until the supply returns to normal. 7:37. just about 90 minutes from now, a former employee with the san francisco human rights commission is due in court.

66-year-old lawrence brinken is charged with possession and distribution of child pornography. he was arrested in june following an investigation led by the los angeles police department. brinken is also a gay rights advocate. later this morning -- throughout this morning, oakland police are looking for suspects after a disturbing discovery. swan put up fliers showing a swastika on libby shaft's forehead. they were plastered all over montclair over the weekend. she's of jewish decent. she believes there's political and personal motives behind it. >> i believe the attack was personal. and it was about my recent announcement to run for mayor. >> fliers popped up in fruitvale and showed swastika on noel's forehead.

police want to warn people about a man pretending to be from the water department. a 78-year-old petaluma woman said a man claiming to be with the water department asked her to turn to turn on the faucet. because of a problem with the water line. as she did that, an accomplice entered her house and stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry. >> it's really scary. we have a little baby at home. we work and you -- you worry about what's going on in your neighborhood. i thought this was a close-knit neighborhood where everybody was watching out for eacher. police say you should call the agency they are supposed to be representing to see if they are legitimate. police describe the suspect as a white male about 40 years old. he's-66, 220 to 245 pound and clean shaven. he was wearing an orange and green vest with reflective tape on it. anyone with information is asked to call petaluma police.

new this morning an announcement that president obama will meet with pope francis at the vatican in rome in march during a trip to europe. the white house says president obama and i'm quoting looks forward to discussing with pope francis their shared commitment to fighting poverty and growing in equality. president obama will meet with the pope on march 27th. well, new jersey governor chris christie will be inaugurated for his second term this morning. what was planned as a day of celebration is overshadowed by multiple investigations of his administration. first were the revelations that members of the staff ordered traffic tieups. the mayor says he threatened to withhold sandy relief funds if she didn't support a development project supported by the governor. >> any suggestion that the sandy funds were tried to the approval of any projects in new

jersey is completely false. >> in an interview, governor christie said he's sure that he will learn things from this whole experience which he describes as awful. he also seemed to indicate that he's still considering a run for the white house. says he's more ready now than he was four years ago when he refused to run despite pressures from republican party leaders. the 49ers will have their final news conference of the season as they get ready for next year and their new home in santa clara. yesterday, hundreds of fans turned out at the team headquarters saying thank you for a great year even if they didn't end up going to the super bowl. some of the players stopped to sign a few autographs. despite -- despite the major injury, navarro bowman plans to go to a meeting tonight, a meet and greet at the sun valley mall in concord. now, try not to look at this. this is a horrible injury. his publicist told the examiner

little bit. they've come down a bit as well. there are good earnings to talk about this morning. johnson & johnson, delta up. verizon also recovering, but the stock market is down. authorities in new york city are trying to figure out what caused a driver of a cement crash to crash into a three-story home. impact caused the building to partially collapsed, killed the driver. no one was inside the home at the time. four other people were hurt when the truck slammed into their car before slamming into that house. federal investigators are looking into an animal feed plant explosion that killed two people. it happened yesterday at a plant in omaha, nebraska. the blast was so powerful that the second and third floor collapsed on top of the first floor. almost a dozen workers were trapped under that debris. ten were taken to the hospital. 19 more people managed to

police searching for a gunman who shot a student at a university near philadelphia. it happened last night. the student was sitting in a parking lot at widener university. officials say this appears to be a random shooting. the student is in critical but stable condition. other students were told to stay inside until 6:00 this morning. classes will be held today. park rangers say a fisherman who drowned at point reyes national seashore was trying to retrieve a cooler that had been pulled out to sea by a wave. witnesses told rangers that the fisherman went into the water to get it. the coroner has not released his identity. but park rangers say the fisherman was a regular. keep out that's the warning following a sewage spill at old mill creek. the city's public works department says about 200 gallens of sewage leaked into

the early-morning officer- involved shooting in oakland. we've been reporting this since 4:30. alex savidge is there and alex, you just received some new information. >> reporter: well, good morning, dave, yes. oakland police just confirmed that the man who was shot by two chp officers this morning did die at the scene. we understand the man was armed. the driver of an suv armed when he jumped out of the suv and ran from officers here following a pursuit. it ended here in this oakland neighborhood right on this dead- end street that you are looking at that veers off to the left. that's east 15th at 57th avenue. two chp officers tried to stop a silver bmw suv because it didn't have any license plates on it. the driver wouldn't pull over and then led two others 0 on a short chase. that pursuit ended when the driver turned down this dead- end street, slammed into two parked cars, then jumped out of

that car and police say that driver was holding a weapon at the time. that's when those chp officers opened fire hitting the driver. >> immediately after the vehicle was struck, the chp officers administered cpr until mel personnel could arrive on. scene. when mel personnel arrived on the scene, they did pronounce the driver -- >> reporter: the man who was shot and killed by those officers has not been identified. oakland police are in charge of this investigation and their investigators say the man was driving what turned out to be a stolen suv. no officers hurt during all of this, during the pursuit and the shooting that followed and now there will be a lengthy investigation on several fronts. there will be an investigation team from the alameda county district attorney's office looking into this shooting. there will be an investigative team from the chp trying to piece together exactly what

happened here again. the man shot and killed by two chp officers has not been identified here and investigators will be out here for several more hours. live this morning, in oakland, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. also new this morning, dozens people are homeless after an early-morning fire in san jose. this was first reported at about 2:00 this morning at an apartment complex on cadillac drive. now, there are no reports of injuries. but the flames did cause major damage to several units at the apartment complex. still not clear how the fire was started. the red cross still on the scene helping people who are forced out of their home. 8:05. caltrain still investigating how two men are hit by a train. this happened north of the santa clara station. caltrain said the man were hit by a san francisco train going at least 50 miles an hour. one man was killed. the other taken to valley medical center with serious injuries. beens -- witnesses say the

survivor was laying down at the time of the collision. the man killed was leaning over the tracks inspect path of that obcoming train. >> we -- oncoming train. >> we need to understand if there was something else going on between the victims and whether something else needs to be investigated. that's something we'll be able to talk to the second victim about when he comes out of surgery. >> caltrain is examining the video trying to figure out what happened. this is caltrain's first deadly incident of the new year. last year there were 13 fatalities on caltrain tracks. of those seven were determined to be a suicide. one was an accident. the rest are still being investigated. grief counselors are expected on the campus of delmar high school after the death of a student on train tracks. on friday morning, 14-year-old danica tyler garcia was hit and killed by a vta light rail train. she tied at the hospital.

departing flights and 20 arriving flights because, as you mentioned, this huge east coast winter blast that's affecting the area. the areas most affected according to sfo, including dullus and reagan airports, newark international, philadelphia, boston and the hardest hit airport in terms of cancellations are j.f.k. and la guardia. the problem is a winter storm that plans on bringing in at least four to 8 inches of snow. this morning as well we've seen several passengers here in terminal 2 at sfo sitting around. not knowing exactly what to do next because flights were canceled. some were not notified until they got to the ticket counter. now they are left wondering how they will get home to families. >> there's nothing we can do. we have to wait. >> unfortunately, i wasn't notified ahead of time for the change. i gotta figure out where to

stay for the night and it's just inconvenient. last minute. >> reporter: some forecasters say this could be the most snow for the east coast this winter so far. but according to sfo, many of the east coast airports remain open and ready to clear out snow. but it's the airports taking this preemptive approach just in case the weather turn worse than expected. expects are expected snow in charlotte, north carolina. we've seen canceling as there. we have checked with mineta, san jose and sfo, it looks like those flights have left on time. if you are headed to the airport this morning, especially if you are headed to the east coast, double check your flight status. we're live here at sfo, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. well, the storm expected to dump several inches of snow in our nation's capital. the federal government closed offices for the day. the white house is canceling events as well. kyla campbell joins us from washington with a look at the

conditions and explain the impact. we can see it on you, kyla. >> reporter: this all started with some flurries, about 90 minutes ago. since then, the wind has picked up and the snow has intensified. as you said, it's enough the white house canceled the daily news conference and president obama canceling an event he was supposed to host at the white house. here the roads are wet. they do appear drivable. there are very few people on the road. that's because congress was already on recess and the federal government closed the offices for the day because of this winter weather. many of those febl employees are working from home today. you might remember the last winter storm we had last month. it looks like this mid to late morning. but by early afternoon, it warmed up. the sun came out. everything melted away. that's not expected today. the washington, d.c. area is expecting up to 8 inches of snow. the temperatures will drop overnight into the single digits when we get up for work

popped up in the fruitvale district. those fliers showed swastikas on noel gaos's forehead. they appeared after he proposed a curfew for the teenagers. police warning everybody about a scam involving a man pretending to be from the water department. the 78-year-old petaluma department said a plan claiming to be from the water department asked her to turn on the faucet in her back yard because of a problem with a water line. when she did that, an accomplice got into her house and stole thousands of dollars of jewelry. residents say it makes them nervous. >> it's really scary. we have a baby at home. we work. you worry about what's going on in your neighborhood. i thought this was a close-knit neighborhood. >> police say before you let anybody into your house, call the particular agency, they are supposed to be representing and make sure they are legitimate. police describe this suspect as

a white man about 40 years old. he's about 6'6" between 220, 45 pounds and clean shaven. he was wearing an orange and green vest with a reflective tape on it. 23 you have any information about this man, call petaluma police. the latest numbers from bay area public health agencies show the flu outbreak is still spreading. a vallejo woman is joining experts to urge people to get their flu shots. nikki smith came close to dying when the h1n1 flu and flu combined threatened to shut down other lungs. she has this advice for everyone in the bay area. >> i would just sell anyone who has not had the flu shot, go get it. because it is so not worth what happens if you get this flu. >> nikki smith said she will never smoke another cigarette

morning at an apartment complex on cadillac drive. no one was hurt. still not clear, though, how the fire started. a burglary suspect now in custody after an early-morning search at a san jose strip mall. police say the suspect broke into several businesses including a pot club. investigators say the suspect used ropes to get into those businesses through the roof. one man is dead after an officer-involved shooting early today in oakland. it happened before 3:00 near 57th avenue and 15th street. alex savidge has been on the story since early today since 4:30. oakland police are taking over the investigation. alex? >> reporter: that's right, dave. they are in charge of this investigation. we've got an update a sheert time ago. investigators say the driver who who led the chp on a pursuit was armed when he jumped out of his suv here in this neighborhood at the end of the pursuit. that's when the two officers shot and killed the man.

you can see here. this is still an active investigation. they could be out here for quite sometime. that chase came to an end on the left-sand side -- left-hand side. the oakland police department is in charge here of this investigation because it did happen within city limits although it involves chp officers. this pursuit started just before 3:00 this morning near 580 and high street in oakland. that's where the chp tried to stop this silver bmw suv because it didn't have any plates on it. but the driver wouldn't pull over and then led those two officers on a short chase that lasted only a few minutes. the pursuit ended when the driver turned down this dead- end street and slammed into a couple of parked cars and then jumped out. investigators say this man was holding a gun as he ran from the suv and that's when those two officers opened fire. did the driver point a weapon

at the officers? >> it's still too early in the investigation to provide you those details. this is an officer-involved shooting. we have multiple agencies involved in the investigation. we're not able to go into certain details. >> reporter: the man who was shot and killed by the chp officers has not been identified. he was driving a stolen suv. no officers were hurt. i want to bring you back to a live picture. kind of interesting here. one of the investigators is up here on what is an oakland fire department ladder truck. it appears as though he may be trying to get an aerial view of this scene from this morning, the shooting scene probably taking photos here. this is part of what will be a lengthy investigation. we're told by the oakland police department, the chp and the alameda county district attorney's office and they should be out here for several more hours today. we're live this morning in oakland, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news.

welcome back. 8:54. keep out signs are posted around a mill valley creek after this sewage spill. it happened yesterday morning at old mill creek near cascade drive and molino avenue. about 200 gallons of sewage leaked into the water when a line became blocked. water samples are being monitored. people are being advised to stay away from the creek for now. the lack of snow trying uns economy in the sierra. the three-day weekend usually a big moneymaker for the ski resorts and local businesses. this past weekend, the warm weather kept people away. businesses say the holiday crowds this past weekend barely bigger than a regular monday. >> it's not even close to what we need it to be.
