home on palo alto avenue at 10:30 a.m. this morning. they were confronted by three men. one of them had a gun and forced the couple to lie down on the floor. the suspects made off with wallets, cash and other items. the victims were not injured. the get away car is a beige or white susan. fire crews are -- sedan. fire crews are looking for hot spots, a fire broke out in san jose. two fire trucks with five firefighters arrived on the scene an hour ago. >> the california highway patrol chosed the on ramp while they put the fire out. -- closed the on ramp while they put the fire out. our chief meteorologist bill martin joins us with a red flag warning. >> the red flag warning was for

tom vacar, ktvu channel 2 news. the testing of bolts on the eastern span of the bay bridge continues. new video taken today shows the bolts are being stretched by forces exceeding 500-tons. they are also in bags of salt water to speed up corrosion. they say so far every bolt its test. testing will continue. life in prison with the possibility of patrol. that was the sentence today for a teenager accused in a string of crimes. max suede was convicted of attempted murder in october for firing shots at a 18-year-old man in 2012. prosecutors said who was 17 at the time was jealous of the other teen. the shooting investigation led police to uncover a stolen lamborghini that belonged to a celebrity chef that he stole. he was sentenced to life in prison and 21 years and 4

months for attempted murder. he could be released in 18 years. new at 5:00 p.m. police have released surveillance video of a hit and run. they want your help in finding the suspect. a camera on a passing bus recorded a dark suv accelerating into a man while he was crossing the street. mese say the driver got out -- police say the driver got out, checked on the man and drove off. it accident happened last friday. the victim has been released from the hospital. the suspect is white, in his 4thss, balding and weighing 200 pounds. -- 40s, balding and weighting 200 pounds. authorities said last night's shooting a home may have been accidental but the boy died from a self inflected gun shot wound. police say the boy found the

gun at home. he was a 6th grader in antioch. grief counselors were on hand today offer support. police are looking for two dangerous men who robbed a hospital employee. this happened before midnight last night inside the parking garage. the suspects were armed with a knife and a bat. the suspects got into a silver toyota suv and drove away. the victim was not injured. the count down is on for mavericks surf competition. now just hours away and the waves are getting bigger by the moment. ktvu's robert handa is live tonight. >> reporter: we are having a good time and the people involved are scrambling in the final hours. but what will make the preppations more difficult, the -- preparations more difficult, the waves may be bigger than

expected. it doesn't take an expert to see how big they are getting. the top surfers are saying the conditions are building up and he believes the surf tomorrow will easily exceed the 40-foot waves that were predicted. >> we are going to see, my guess, 50-foot waves, pushing into 60-foot. typical mavericks. big wave is 40-foot. so this will be out of our comfort zone. >> we may see bigger than 50 feet. which will put good strain on the water patrol. >> reporter: the harbor patrol says they are ready. they will close off the beach to avoid a repeat of 2010 which was the last time the waves were that big and knocked down spectators spectators and they are warning boaters. >> one thing if you are out there and it appears calm, the way in and the way out we could

some frightening moments for people trying to get out of a burning building in san francisco. it started in a building along the 1400 block of stevensen street. a firefighter fellten feet from a loft -- fell about 10 feet from a loft. all of the 20 people inside made it out safely. the main stairway was on fire. he heard his neighbors yelling. >> opened my eyes to thinking it was a bad dream but it was the reality. not being able to breathe and trying to get out of the

we continue to follow breaking news in oakland. it was a 14-year-old boy who opened fire on a his 17-year- old sister killing her this afternoon. ktvu's katieuitous is live. -- katy is live at the scene. >> reporter: much of what we are learning about what led up to the shooting is coming from family. what we have confirmed from police as you mentioned the victim is a 17-year-old woman.

the suspect a 14-year-old -- 14- year-old. the family says the two are brother and sister, however police are not confirming their relationship just saying they are relatives. police tell me the victim was shot one time. they are not confirming any other details. we spoke with the victim's cousin. >> we did want know what was happening -- we didn't know what was happening. >> reporter: police say the shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. in china town in an apartment complex. it all happened within the apartment where the family lives. however police not confirming what led up to the shooting.

process what happened. and also trying to support the younger brother who is now in custody while still mourning the loss of the 17-year-old victim. she is a young mother. she leaves behind a daughter and family tell us the 14-year- old brother is the suspect. police will only tell us the victims are a 17-year-old and a 14-year-old relative as the suspect. the shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. at an apartment. family said it was possibly a dispute about laundry. we spoke with the grandmother of the victim and she tells us she trying to mourn her loss and still support her grandson. >> it
