>> one surfer tells us about wiping out and we have more on the shooting that may been sparked by the laundry argument and more. the waves are pounding there, good afternoon, everyone, i am mike nemack in for tori campbell, good afternoon, everyone, we give you a welcome as the wrap up that final week of competition, alex savidge has been there a long time and how is it going out there. >> reporter: hey, it is great out here. we have been here all day and because of that the fans are

finding this out first hand, they are not allowed anywhere near the viewing part. this is where they are, they are taking in the action from the parking lot of the hotel there and have the action there on the big screen, thousands in fact filling up that parking lot. there was a little glitch when they started, they were not working but only out for a short period of time. 24 of the world's best surfers are here riding the waves, some of them 20 feet tall we are told and the fans were here early staking out a good spot to watch the action. some here in the crowd say it is nerve-racking to watch these daredevil surfers taking on the large of the waves. >> my heart is racing really fast, it is exhilarating. >> my first time for the competition, i have got front,

row and center and first wave went down and was waiting for that to make a stop. >> i like to see the people, so personally like to be closer but i understand the danger. >> once again this year the harbor patrol is not allowing fans to watch the competition anywhere near the water. the beach and the bluffs near the point are off limits, these are powerful waves that do pose a huge challenge to the competitors they admit as much, already we watched one wipe out in spectacular fashion, that man was mark of hawaii and earlier we talked to him about how he overcomes the fear. >> you cannot let your emotions rule and you have to overcome it. in a way it is like overcoming a challenge, like how far do you want to push yourself.

the waves pose a danger to bay area beaches and not the only danger affecting us today, ktvi meteorologist rosemary orosco is here now with your forecast. >> yes, mike, this has been building for the last couple of days. it peaks today. for the rest of us that means it could be dangerous. it is not only areas at pillar point where we are seeing very hard surf although that is where it is at its largest, again we have been talking about it for days now, the possibility of a few waves reaching 40 feet. the rest of us 10 to 20 feet so some of the large of the breaking waves along our beaches could be 10 to 20 feet, if i slide along a bit the surf advisory for the entire coastline and as far as on land we have got that red flag warning for today. so the high surf advisory until

at him. again this is mario, the police and his family want you to turn him in. gunfire erupted between him and his sister yesterday afternoon, they share that apartment with them, they say he was angry because she bleached his clothes and now they want him to surrender. >> we have serious concern because we have a 14-year-old who is armed and dangerous, we have for the recovered a weapon from the scene and so we believe he may still be in possession of the weapon, in this case a handgun. >> his family says they don't know where he got the gun, meanwhile they grieve for their daughter, a 10,000 dollar reward is being offered for any

revealed the exact events leading up to the deadly shooting. the funeral for him will be held there next wednesday morning. the service begins at 10:00 a.m., a public viewing will be held the night before the funeral at the chapel of the chimes on mission boulevard in hayward from 7:00 to 9:00 tuesday night. the public is invited to attend both services. marin police are sending out a warning to students after an assault near campus, they said last night a masked man abducted another man near a parking lot there and he was later found there where he was sexually assaulted, he was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, they put out a description of the attacker, african american man, 6'0," 220 pounds and was wearing a black sweater, black ski mask and black gloves. a former san francisco

scary moments in san francisco when scaffolding attached to a home collapsed seriously injuring three workers, they suffered compound leg fractures when the fell about 25 feet. it feel near market street.

>> there were three workers standing on this platform working on the roof and their combined weight and they had some rolls of tar paper exceeded what the platform could hold and it collapsed at its highest point back there. >> and they said their workers were not considered life- threatening and we are told the homeowner did not have permits for the work. continuing coverage on the flu outbreak, they announced two more flu deaths, they claimed the lives of a man and a woman this week, that brings the total number of deaths this week in santa clara to county. the number has risen there to 30, santa clara has that. the officials said the vast majority had underlying conditions that put them at

risk. police are investigate in a marijuana growing operation that was discovered when the fire broke out there and crews went to put it out. once inside they said they discovered a sophisticated pot growing operation which the captain said is a dangerous situation for firefighters. >> normally we try to turn the power off so there is not a hazard for them and so when they by pass the meter that can become problematic for us. >> no one was home and so far no arrests have been made, that fire caused 150,000 dollars in damage, officials say at least 35 grow house marijuana fires have been reported then. today that home there burned to the ground just after 5:00 a.m. it had been vacant for just about a year and it also damaged the home next door. the woman who lived there got

out safely. the investigation is underway and they say transients who have been seen near the home may have been to blame. she was caught wearing stolen pajamas, that is what they are saying about a woman suspected of burglarizing her neighbor's home. she was arrested wednesday. she is suspected of breaking interest a neighbor's home last month there. electronics, tools, furniture and clothing were all taken and police say the victims install nd the camera there after that and later they recognized her and she was arrested and later booked into the jail there. they caught on video a driver getting out to check on a man and then driving away.

video from a passing bus shows them stopping and then suddenly lunging forward and hitting the 40-year-old, this happened there and it is what happened next that shocked witnesses even more. >> he got out and walked over to the slick and then somebody asked him if the victim is okay, he said well he is breathing and then got back in and left. >> the victim is recovering at home and the driver is described as a white man, 6'2," bald and weighing 222 pounds. the river is its lowest in years and residents there are carefully watching their water restrictions and officials say it could get worse, they say it has to rain that much just to match the rainfall totals of 1977, one of the last big
