this changes everything. it certainly changes the grappling. without that right hand, he can't make a proper grip, and he can't defend him seven the same way. >> mike: it almost affects the grappling more, doesn't it, joe? >> joe: you can throw kicks and elbows. it certainly affects everything. the only thing it doesn't affect are kicks. hasn't seemed to affect his will yet. in the clinch position with henderson here almost at the midway point of the fight. the elbow. still right there ready to go toe to toe.

he was unable to hold on to it because of his hand probably. >> joe: right. meanwhile, benson the takedown. very strong in this round. josh still trying for the takedown. he's not going to be able to clap his hands together right now. henderson trying to overpower him here. >> mike: his right hand is real loose now, joe. >> joe: nice, short elbow. johnson still throwing that punch, though. they are screaming for the kick. this is an incredibly distracting thing. and benson is really taking over in this round. 90 seconds remain in the third.

caught in between the leg of benson. that's where he can sweep from. benson, the way he has his leg set up, now benson is full guard. good submission control here. he has the left arm trapped. josh is actually in a bad position here with the leg of benson wrapped behind the neck. his left arm is trapped and benson can pretty much freely punch him in the face here, throw elbows. elbowing his arm. keep in mind he's trying to set up a triangle, mike. in the sport of mixed martial arts in the ufc there's always a chance, broken hand, broken thumb or not, josh thomson could pull something off. >> mike: well, so long as he's on the ground here like this

he's controlling benson, he has a possibility to get a submission. now benson is getting up. this is going to be a problem for josh because he can't clasp his hands together properly. beautiful job. did he make it? yes. very nicely done but look at this. benson powering up. now josh trying to ride his back. can't do it. lands some short elbows. so unfortunate that such an injury occurs during a fight. we've seen it before, joe. are for josh thomson, so much is riding on tonight's matchup. >> joe: he especially for josh was set to fight anthony pettis before pettis was injured. nice knee to the side by benson. >> mike: under two left in the fourth.
