appears two factors contributed to the shooting the apartment's unusual circular layout and the two entrances to the bathroom. police say maes shot sergeant smith on tuesday as they conducted a probation search into a dublin apartment. a new search for a 14-year- old teen accused of shooting and killing his 17-year-old sister. cristina rendon spoke to the boy's father, who is worried that the teen may be in danger. >> reporter: family of mario toliver gathered for a calming prayer. they are turning to faith to quiet rumors why the 14-year- old allegedly shot and killed his sister 17-year-old justice toliver. their father says it was a tragic mistake. >> it doesn't have anything to do with no colonials or none of that, just kids augusting. >> reporter: mario toliver, sr. says his worst fear is that his son will end up dead and the pavor has a

target, and michael's. >> when you start is to get enough of these, then you start to see changes. >> reporter: experts say credit cards with chips imbedded is one of them, already used in europe. >> what that does, it make it's a lot tougher to then reuse that data. can you still potentially collect it, but you can't associate it necessarily with a person. >> reporter: ironically target experimented with chip-based cards years ago, but they slowed down checkout and all of the parties retailer, bank, card processor couldn't agree on control. >> there are debates where certain transaction fees get paid to whom and how much? >> i'm glad they told me so i note what is going on. >> reporter: michael's customers that we talked to seemed resigned to yet another retailer slipped up. >> free money, if people are going to steal they will steal from the big corporation and i

. new details tonight about the shooting in maryland that turned a crowded mall into a scene of chaos and fear. police say the gunman walk into a skate shop and opened fire, killing two employees. one of those killed was 21-year- old brianna benolo. on her instagram account benolo describes herself as a mother and sister and says "live every day like today." the second victim was identified as 25-year-old tyler johnson. police have not yet released the name. gunman, but today said his bag held what they called crude attempts to make closive devices out of fireworks.

as scott tompson tells us those in the mall as the shootings happened described it as terrifying. >> i saw three people shot fall. everybody ducked to the ground and i heard more than ten shots are police are investigating the fatal shooting that left three dead in a columbia, maryland mall according to police a man carrying a shotgun walked to the skate shop and killed two employees a man and woman and then himself. >> we do not know what caused the shooting exempt incident. >> reporter: when the gunshots rang out, customers and employees scattered or took shelter wherever they could. >> so i grabbed at least a kid that i could see and ran into sears to keep them safe. >> everyone was scared. it was pretty chaotic at the time, you know? people running by the store and people ducking down on the floor, in the candy store. >> reporter: at least five other people were

i think that is probably what saved his life. >> reporter: the driver lost control of his car, hit the median, crossed into the oncoming lanes of traffic and struck the pge power box before slamming into the side of this the home. the car rolled and landed into the yard next door. the crash knocked out electricity to five homes. pge crews spent the day restoring power. hazmat crews had to clean up the oil that poured out of transformer and homeowners had a lot to clean up too. >> my garage door is gone and half of my things were crashed into their house. >> reporter: cause of the crash is under investigation, but a resident says the driver's brother came back this morning to apologize. >> he said that his brother swerved to miss a car and i guess he overcorrected. >> reporter: eight hours after the crash, this mother still hadn't even noticed what happened. >> she is on medication. she just got out of hot and she slept through the whole thing,

like the whole thing. she is still sleeping. >> reporter: there were a total of five people in the homes when the crash happened and no one was hurt. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. police a woman sitting at a bus stop in san francisco was struck by a suspected drunk driver of they say 45-year-old james bell of san francisco crashed into the woman at mission and 30th streets around 8:00 p.m. bell was arrested on suspicion of dui and hit-and-run. the 35-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with life- threatening injuries. a lack of doctors in some parts of nation has both physicians and lawmakers worried. as more baby-boomers age and the affordable care act brings more health care to people. >> you have malpractice insurance. a lot of doctors say i'm going to go to a hospital and the

. a shooting this morning in san francisco left a dog dead. police say they were forced to open fire. police say the shooting happened when the dog cornered an officer. as ktvu assists john sasaki explains the dog's owner is now facing trespassing charges. >> reporter: a peaceful morning on san francisco's potrero hill turned deadly. police were at the connecticut street building searching vacant parents, when opened one unit, the dog charged the officer. >> the officer retreated as best as que can and when the dog was on top of him he discharged his weapon. >> reporter: the dog's owner was arrested for trespassing. this is a photo of the dog, which was named psycho.
