the bay area is beginning to dry out after light rain this morning. we'll tell you just how much rain we received and where a winter weather warn something already in effect. a major fbi raid at a south bay tattoo parlor. what investigators uncovered and how many people were involved. parents in the south bay speaking out after a school counselor was arrested for selling marijuana. the trouble that two students got into that led to the counsel lir's arrest -- counselor's arrest.

it was a morning of wet roads and cloudy skies as the bay area woke up to some much- needed rain. luckily, there were no major collisions because of the slick highways but chp did respond to several minor accidents. drivers say with the first rain in a while, you have to be extra cautious. >> always leave several seconds in front of you because there's lot of grease on the roads that will be lifting up the pavement. hopefully, everyone can get to work safely. >> today's rain comes after nearly two months of bone-dry weather that triggered a drought emergency. mark tamayo is here with how much the bay area received overnight and this morning. mark? >> this system really got a lot of attention this week based on the change in the weather pattern. we were never expecting significant rainfall. unfortunately, the numbers came in below the forecasted totals. up in the north bay, a few

hundredsths up, folks .300. an energetic push behind the system triggered some heavier rainfall, at least moderate downfalls out toward san jose, .10 in gilroy, .09. right now, the bay area for the most part in the clear of the snowshowers. still falling in the sierra. that winter storm warning in place. as far as some of the local reports, you can see all of the reports up in the sierra from earlier today. early this morning. in fact, we'll take around the donner area, in fact, tahoe city at 6:10 this morning reporting 6 inches of additional snowfall. here is a look at the local doppler sweep. we're dry for the moment but there is a weather system offshore. there's one element aleast part of the system that could be approaching our shore line. coming up in ten minutes we'll talk about this and the next chance of a few showers in our local forecast because we could be attracting a few showers before the day ends. we'll also break down the

weekend forecast. maybe a slight chance for a sprinkle for one part of your weekend. >> coming up in ten minutes, we'll show you the conditions in the sierra if you are thinking about making a trip. within the last hour, we have learned that federal prosecutors have learned to seek the death penalty in the sole surviving suspect in the bost marathon bombing. three people were killed and more than 260 others were wounded in the bombing. dzhokhar tsarnaev has bled not guilty -- pled not guilty. a massive drug bust in san rafael and people are in custody. alex savidge is live with more.

>> reporter: it all centers around this tattoo shop behind me. just a block away from the san jose state university campus. right now, fbi agents are still inside the second floor business gathering evidence after raiding this place early their morning and seizing meth and weapons. finn agents -- fbi's gents went in with drug dogs to search this shop in downtown san jose. investigators found a significant amount of meth along with guns and knives. this was one of several locations raided. an fbi agent took as many as 20 people into custody. investigators say they are all gang members who helped run this drug operation. >> it may noting the solution but i would -- may not be the solution but i would like to consider it a dent in gang activity in the south bay. >> reporter: no one as the business when agents raided the police. those who work nearby were surprised to find out what they

found inside. >> that was so az magging to me. one because the trafficking in and out of the building wasn't -- it wasn't that bad. i have never seen a lot of the attention. i never seen anything. >> reporter: the fbi says this investigation has been going on for several years. and today's bust was carried out in concert with san jose police and other local law enforcement agencies. federal agents say this was a good-sized drug operation run out of an unassuming tattoo shop. this case is far from closed. >> we'll continue to bring that fight to the bad guys. >> reporter: and all of the people arrested today had been indicted before the raids this morning meaning the likelihood of even more time behind bars. we're live this morning -- live this afternoon, i should say, in san jose, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, alex. breaking news in the south bay. firefighters are at the scene of a mobile home fire. this is on los encinos avenue

in san jose. the fire is under control. but at least two people have been hurt. a resident and a firefighter were taken to the hospital. we don't know their conditions. again, this is the fire at a mobile home on losencinos avenue in san jose. livermore police arrested a sex offender on charges of sexually abusing a 6-year-old girl. jesus vega junior was charged in engaging in more than three sex acts with a child under the age of 14. police say he was also convicted in 1989 of sexually abusing a child and served eight years in prison. and in oakland, a $5,000 reward is being offered to find a man who police say inappropriately touched a 6- year-old girl. investigators say it happened in a girls' bathroom last friday during an after-school program at think college now on international boulevard. police say the girl ran away

and reported the incident to an adult. prosecutors are expected to decide if a 14-year-old suspect accusedded of killing his older sister should be charged as an adult. the teenager surrendered to police yesterday, six days after his 17-year-old sister was shot and killed. investigators say the boy had been in hiding but did not tell police where. in an exclusive interview, ktvu talked to the young suspect's lawyer just hours after the boy turned himself in. >> what was his demeanor? >> well, as you can imagine, very emotional. you are having to say, you know, your last goodbyes if you will, which is obviously something that his sister did not get a chance to do. >> the attorney also disputes the family's initial reports that the boy shot and killed his sister because she bleached his clothes while doing the laundry. it's a whirlwind of events as the first lady visits the bay area today. ktvu's sal castanedo is in san francisco where preparations

are underway and joins us live with what the first lady's plans are during her trip here. good afternoon, sal. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. as you might imagine, whenever the first lady does come somewhere, security is gather tight. we've seen federal and local law enforcement coming in, we've seen police dogs. the first lady will arrive early this afternoon as part of a scheduled two-day fund- raising trip for the democratic party. we saw workers getting ready early at this restaurant in the jackson square area. this is the first stop for ms. obama where she will attend the women's round table. police have cleared out the streets for security and her arrival will likely cause traffic issues in the financial district. some people we told are happy she's coming. >> come by at 1:30 and hopefully she her. sheeles's -- she's a beautiful person. >> >> we think the world of her.

like that. 20-year-old edward diaz was a tutor and mentor at the after- school program called think together that's operated on the middle school campus. san jose unified district officials say two students were caught with marijuana on campus tuesday afternoon and when they were questioned, they said a staff member gave it to them. police were called immediately to investigate and determine that diaz sold the children the drugs. he was arrested and has been fired from his job at the after- school program. >> students' safety and health is always of utmost importance. they acted immediately and professionally in this case. they called 911 immediately and the san jose pd responded and it's my understanding that the individual admitted to selling the drugs to the kids immediately. >> reporter: the students were suspended. parents were alerted by e-mail last night about the incident and were told that they could contact if they had concerns. diaz had worked part time with

the children since last september. officials from the think together program say diaz passed a department of justice background and didn't have a dollar past. the program contracts with the school district. a spokeswoman said she wasn't sure how this incident would affect their relationship with the program or if it would lead to severing ties. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, janine. a 17-year-old bay area girl never got the heart transplant she needed to live. now 2 investigates looks into allegations that she and others might not be getting fair consideration. >> they tell me well, we decided that we're not gonna give jasmine a heart nor can she have the device because of her disability, her intellectual disability. >> jasmine smith had mental disabilities since she was a baby and is that what doctors -- and is that why doctors did

not give her a new heart? tonight at 10:00, 2 investigates reveals who does and does not get on transplant lists and why some doctors admit they choose not to help some patients with disabilities. again, that's tonight at 10:00. palo alto police are searching for a bicycle riding purse snatcher who struck twice within 15 minute, the first incident happened at 6:30 on the 400 block of university avenue. a woman was dining at an outdoor table of a restaurant when a man walked up and grabbed her purse from under the table. he ran off, jumped on a bike and ran away. 15 minutes later, a woman waiting on a bus stop a few blocks away says a man on a bicycle tried to take her bag off her shoulder. she struggled with the man and she was able to hold onto her purse. the fbi honored a local organization that's been battling sexual abuse and sexual assault for more than four decades. the special agent in charge of san francisco presented the

director's award to bay area women against rape. the award was specifically for the work to stop human trafficking. >> this award has -- it's been so much for us. it's boosted our morale. to have somebody say thank you and recognize it, we appreciate it. thank you. >> they were started in 1971 as the result of a child being sexually assaulted and has been working to help women, children and men who are victims of sexual assault. it's what resorts in the sierra have been waiting for. snow. in fact, right now, a winter storm warning is in effect in the lake tahoe area. kevin oliver is there and joins us from kingvale to show us some of the conditions. it looks pretty snowy. >> reporter: there's a lot of snow on the ground, not quite as much as people would like to see. if you take a look, people would have to scrape off snow off their cars and front

stoops. they didn't necessarily have to dig out because it wasn't that much snow in the kingvale area, about three or four inches. but the higher up you go, the ski resorts, they got more snow there. there were chain controls along the pass earlier today. the snow just let up about an hour ago. when that happened, caltrans dropped some of the chain controls, the roads leading up here are clear and as long as it stays this way, they should be clear for skiers and snowboarders this weekend. but as you know, everyone up here in the sierra is looking for even more snow and hoping that there is more storms on the way. reporting live from the sierra, kevin oliver, now back to you. >> thank you. joining us live from kingvale. and just take a look at the latest caltrans reports. right now, chain controls posted not on 80 but on 50 with still some snow falling in the mountains. back here in the bay area, we just have some lingering clouds

after we had scattered light rain showers. you can see the bulk of the action heading to the south and also to our east, in fact, i saw video of moderate to heavy rainfall in fresno earlier this morning. you can pick out the snowfall reports and still some scattered showers but the intensity will be backing off over the next few hours. back here in the bay area, there's lingering clouds. the live doppler sweep is trying to detect rainfall, nothing to show you right now but that could be changing later on tonight. current temperatures. today is going to be cooler than yesterday. that will translate to some lower 60s out there for afternoon highs. you can see santa rosa one of the warmer spots at 64. san francisco, 55. san jose, 59. livermore in the upper 50s at 57 degrees. so for tonight, of course, we had just the chance of some rain showers developing. tomorrow, there's a slight chance basically early into the morning hours. the weekend forecast, most of the weekend should be dry except by sunday. there is a slight chance of a shower with the system.

as far as the sierra, this was the scene looking out towards sugar bowl good news there. details on the winter storm warning in place until 7:00 this evening. snow levels right around 5500 feet. snow totals by the end of the storm, the highest peaks could be picking up amounts approaching 18 inches. most areas on the order of about 6, 10 inches and they could shil have lingering snowshowers into early tomorrow morning. we'll take this into the short- term. you will see some clouds right now. as we put this into motion, look at this activity offshore. there is a weather system. it will be bumping up right near the shoreline close enough that we do bring in some rain chances, at least a chance of some scattered showers. that will be tonight 8:00 and then throughout the evening hours. 10:00 up until midnight and then overnight, the system quickly clears out leaving us with clear skies. the cooling trend will continue. talking about the weather

system. here's the front that moved across the state earlier this morning. this guy developing offshore. it marches closer to our shore line. that's what we're tracking for this evening. now into the second half of the weekend, there's another system, you can see tomorrow and then into saturday we put this into motion for you saturday and then into sunday. look what happens as this activity begins to approach our coastline. this forecast model keeps it just offshore but cloest enough to warrant that slight chance of a shower for the second half of the weekend. forecast highs this afternoon, mainly in the upper 50s, lower 60s for afternoon highs. san jose, 60 degrees. santa rosa, 64 and here is a look ahead to your five-day forecast with your weekend always in view. a bit of a breeze kicks in for friday. saturday cool and sunny out there and then on sunday for the second half of the weekend, we bring in the cloud cover. the baby rain clouds reflect the slight chance and cool and brie zri into next week. no significant storms. this system caught a lot of

breaking news out of san jose where two people have been injured in a house fire. robert handa is on the scene now and joins us live for an update. good afternoon, robert. >> reporter: good afternoon. we are here at the west winds mobile home park in san jose

where firefighters just put out a two-alarm fire just about 20 minutes ago. this is a fire that could have fatal consequences. we'll give you a look at the scene here. officials tell me they got the call just after 11:00 a.m. at this double wide mobile home that was fully involved in flames. i'm told firefighter rescued a woman from the home as well as a dog. the woman was unresponsive at the time but i'm told paramedics were able to restore vital scenes but i'm also told she was still in what appeared to be very serious condition when she was taken to the hospital. the dog is also still being treated. you can see the firefighters have been working on this for quite a while. they were able to keep it from spreading. it took them about an hour or so to bring the fire under control. we're told one firefighter did suffer some minor injuries and we also have been told that the dog that was rescued from this scene is also still being treated. at this point, we understand that the cause has not been determined and right now they have cordoned off this area because if the woman who was
