lots of 40s to near 50 degrees. we had that system which did produce some snow. it's in the central sierra. it will be out of here fast. you can see some of that up in the higher country. 37 ukiah. monterey 52. one some moves out pretty rapidly. there will be another low flirting with us on sunday. we will probably get some clouds but nothing else. a lot of upper 50s and lower 60s. here is sal. steve, good morning. traffic is doing pretty well to start off the morning as we look at the way to get into san francisco in case you are trying to go there right now. it should be a ten minute drive from the toll plaza to san francisco. notice you don't see any road

work here. we've been checking, the traffic is moving well. also looking at the commute on 580 westbound as you drive through it has been a nice drive. it's 4:30 let's go back to the desk. there is one confirmed injury in an early morning house fire. it started early this morning at a home just a few blocks from the new 49er stadium. janine de la vega is joining us live from santa clara to tell us how neighbors may have prevented a tragedy. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, brian. firefighters are still here on the scene in the middle of the street. you can see this house behind me. and in the distance there is still smoke rising from the roof. it is just completely gutted. they do have an aerial ladder up on the house to take pictures of the investigation. firefighters say they were

alerted about 1:20 this morning and when they arrived the garage and the second floor of this house was fully involved in the flames. there were four adults in the house that were sleeping we're told. and when the fire broke out but they were able to escape before the firefighters arrived. neighbors ended up evacuating because of the potential dangers. those who were up tried to help wake up the people inside before the firefighters arrived. >> we didn't go to the house. we were throwing rocks from the street. we were in our neighbors yard trying to find rocks that were big enough. the fire spread pretty fast. we didn't want to get too close. >> reporter: the fire crew to two alarms and took crews 40 minutes to get it under control. it is completely destroyed and there is also a vehicle in the driveway that was also damaged. no other homes though got any damage to them. firefighters were able to save

them. now a woman was renting a room in the house. we are told she sustained some burns but there were minor injuries. but she was taken to the hospital as a precaution. the cause of this fire is unknown but investigators are here. they tell me the fire did appear to start in the house. it didn't start outside in the car. we also know that this house was for sale. we are trying to find out a little bit more about the people who live there. we haven't been able to see where they are. we've just been told by firefighters that right now it is not red cross that is helping them that they are getting a lot of help from neighbors. janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. new this morning the investigation is under way into an officer involved shooting in vacaville. our ktvu camera was on the scene just moments after this morning's gunfire. investigators say the suspect was wounded during a shootout with officers after he

allegedly rammed the two patrol cars. the suspect is now in the hospital. his condition is not known. the police officers were not hurt. police have issued a public warning about a recent rash of home burglary. the most recent happened yesterday afternoon. this follows several similar home burglaries across the city of san bruno. including four in a six hour period. police now urging everyone to make sure to lock doors and windows and immediately report any suspicious activity. time is 4:34. investigators in the south bay hope someone can help them identify the person accused of stealing from the vta. tara moriarty is in san jose this morning with the costly theft. tara. >> reporter: that is right. we are here where sheriffs deputies were able to use surveillance cameras to see who was responsible for this crime. they believe this man wearing a blue jacket, khaki pants, and a

black shirt stole more than $10,000 worth of copper wire yesterday around 3:00 in the morning. sheriffs investigators want you to take a good look at these pictures to see if you recognize him. they have also released an image of his car seen just before the theft happened. if you have any information you are asked to contact the sheriffs office. this is a pretty desolate area. it is quiet. not a lot of folks around here. it is easy to see how someone could have gotten away with something like this. >> thank you. time is 4:35. the highway patrol is investigating the cause of a deadly crash on highway 85 in san jose overnight. two cars collided and one overturned around 11:30 last night. the chp says one person who was taken to a hospital died from injuries suffered in the crash. investigators are look into the possibility that a drunk driver

caused the crash. san francisco police say two people were wounded in a shooting in the city's portray owe hill neighborhood. investigators say it appears the two victims suffered several gunshot wounds. they were taken to san francisco general hospital. i want to show you what it looked like driving on highway 50 yesterday afternoon. a little better than late lay. -- lately. it is a welcome site for skiers, snow borders and the resorts which have been trying to keep the slopes covered with man-made snow. the sierra tahoe resort says it's only had 68 inches this winter. that compares to 480-inches in

a normal year. despite the new snow, the states snow pack is at the lowest level since 1960. experts say there is little chance that melting snow this spring will help relieve the drought. yesterday's survey shows california's snow pack is just 12% of average. >> this is the driest on record. we are quite a bit below that level. >> the snow survey measures the amount of water contained in the snow. one shows the water content was just 1.4 inches. it needs to be 1 inches to -- it needs to be 18 inches to bring us back to where we need to be. investigators say a woman spent 15 years being sexually abused and held prisoner at the home of a family member in north richmond. the defendant is 52-year-old

raul. he is accused of holding her captive and assaulting her two to three times a week. >> the psychological abuse and the physical abuse, the sexual abuse kept her in a mentality that she is still considered to be just a child. >> police say the victim like jaycee dugard never attended school and imprisoned in a backyard shed. he is expected to spend 22 years in prison. sentencing is set for february 11th. this morning: search continues for a patient whole walked out of san francisco general hospital. police say 34-year-old valerie gates was wearing a bandage around her neck when she left the hospital after surgery last night. she was said to be wearing a green jacket and burgundy participants. gates is homeless and spent a lot of time in san francisco's

tenderloin area. a tragedy last october led to a security overhaul at sf general. a 57-year-old patient was found dead in a hospital stairwell 1 days after she was reported missing. happening today final preparations are under way for sunday's super bowl at new jersey's met life stadium. many fans here in the bay area are looking ahead to 2016 when we host the super bowl. this morning members of the bay area super bowl host committee are in new york city for an important meeting. the focus of today's meet willing be security and logistics of handling the huge super bowl crowds. >> watching how the nfl and new york handles the super bowl component will be huge for us. >> many are thrilled the super bowl will be played in the new home of the 49ers santa clara. and it will be the golden anniversary of the big game.

channel 2 morning news. toyota has issued an order to its dealerships to stop selling some of the top brands. it comes as the company tries to replace seats. toyota says there has been no reports of fire or injuries and customers are saying they are still confident their vehicles are safe. >> i think it is great. >> at this point there is no recall. until word on how long the stop sell order will remain in place. yahoo says some of the customers e-mail accounts may have been hit by customers. yahoo has 81 million effected users. it is resetting the pass words of the accounts that was broken

into. the attackers used a third party data base to get customers user names and pass words. the online gaming company says it hopes to save $35 million a year with the move. most of the cuts will come from its management and administrative staff at the san francisco headquarters. and they are buying natural motion for $527 million. in the north bay 61 severely malnourished dogs are getting the care they need to prepare them for new homes. the humane society spayed and neutered some of the dogs. they were rescued from a private breeder in redding. veterinarians say the dogs were kept in small cages and sheds. many suffered ear infections, lice, and severe dental

disease. >> looking into an animals eyes and knowing they are so thankful for what you can offer them. >> today about a dozen of the dogs will board a plane and fly to a dog rescue group based in los angeles. max wade has started his life at san quentin prison. he was sentenced to life in prison for trying to kill a pickup truck driver back until 2012. he was also found guilty of stealing a $200,000 lamborghini from a car dealership a year ago. wade was also investigated for the murder of a tiburon woman but there is not evidence to charge him or anyone else in that case. the obama administration is seeking the death penalty against the lone survivor in the boston marathon bombing. they planted two bombs near the finish line. three people were killed.

more than 260 others were injured. prose cessors cite -- prosecutors cite several factors in seeking the death penalty. now one of those wounded in the boston bombings was 12-year-old aaron hern of martinez. she says she has no energy left to feel anything about tsarnaev. instead she is focusing all of her attention on her family. as you get ready to file your taxes this year, if you have questions, the irs may not be the best place to call for answers. that is because unlike other government agencies the irs has suffered budget cuts. the agency could not answer 20 million of the 108 million calls they received. even irs audits are down to less than 1% of individual filers which has resulted in a loss of revenue.
