9:30 am
hello, everybody, i'm beth troutman, if you want great videos from the web, this is the show for you, "right this minute." panic as a boat starts taking on water -- >> and going down fast. >> how a scene that sounded so scary wound up with a miracle ending. an officer lifts a suspect out of a squad car after -- >> she refused to walk. >> why dragging her inside didn't go over big with the boss. surfers go in search of
9:31 am
waves that had never been surfed before. >> they didn't just find amazing surf. >> you know, she told me don't cross the river. >> see why risking life and limb was all part of the adventure for a new film. plus, who doesn't love an ipad mini? we've got the buzzword. and there's ice on the car but -- >> that little scraper doesn't quite cut it. >> why a mallet does a bang-up job. this is a case of now you see it, now you don't in a pretty scary way. this is off the coast of thailand. i'm talking about this boat. the boat named "aladdin." you can see the thing going down and going down fast.
9:32 am
>> apparently they were on some sort of four-day trip. you can see every single person jumping off of this thing trying to save themselves just diving into the water. and this thing went down in a matter of minutes. >> i see a lot of life jackets floating in the water and not on it. >> you do. but you also see where this video's coming from, right? it looks like another boat. well, apparently here to save the day peter pan. that's the name of a boat that was nearby and was able to rescue all 13 of these people. but not before some super dramatic moments. apparently there was a hole in the boat's hull. that started taking on water. and that's what brought this thing down and brought it down really, really fast. >> considering how fast this thing went down -- >> right. >> -- wouldn't have been surprised if someone actually got stuck somewhere trying to get out but nobody did which is amazing.
9:33 am
>> apparently "aladdin" was not a registered vessel and should not have been operating at this moment in time. and somebody could be in hot water now about this whole thing. got some video that probably is going to make you think a little bit. you see an officer pull his car in there and he's got a suspect detained in the back of the car. the man in the passenger's seat is a civilian ride-along. the officer puts on a pair of gloves and he goes into the back seat to deal with the suspect. the suspect in the back is sonya, she refused to walk. when you see officer scott van trees remove her, he gently picks her up and takes her out of the car and places her on the concrete. she's kind of hog-tied. he takes the shackles off and when it's time to bring her into the booking area, she refuses to get up, refuses to walk. the officer grabs her by the right arm and tries to get her to stand up and you see her collapse again. so he just drags her into the
9:34 am
booking area. >> she's suing now for police abuse? >> no, she's not suing. but the tampa police department saw this and felt that officer van trees didn't really handle the situation properly. they believe that he put the defendant in unnecessary risk regardless of the fact that she was injured or not. after she got into the booking area, the tampa fire department was called. they took her, checked her out and gave her an evaluation, took her to the hospital where she then jumped off the gurney, look, i'm not hurt i was faking it the whole time. >> the officer is in trouble? >> he was reprimanded. in this situation, two officers are supposed to lift the person up. she's been arrested 40 times before according to police and in this situation she was charged with possession of cocaine, trespassing and resisting arrest. >> she had the opportunity and every opportunity to walk into that building and she refused. get up and walk. the fire department had to come pick her up and take her to the
9:35 am
hospital. how much money are taxpayers out of because she was high on cocaine? excuse me, allegedly high on cocaine. talk being saved by the seat of your pants. or maybe the cuffs. this is in china and as you can see there, there's a man hanging there and he can't make it. he's half naked because he fell off a fourth floor balcony by accident but he was saved by his pants. his pants caught on the balcony and he was suspended there for 20 minutes while rescue workers came to get him out of the fix. >> how embarrassing. my goodness, how embarrassing. there you are. your vertical smile. shining down among the people below. >> yeah. >> and you're helpless. you can't even cover yourself. >> no. and everybody's down there. you know everybody has their phone out. want pictures of this. >> just like the person who shot this video. but can you imagine being up there for 20 minutes upside down just everything for everybody to
9:36 am
see. >> good thing he didn't wear shorts. if you wear shorts, he would be a goner. >> yeah, little did he know when he got up that morning and put on that specific pair of pants that those points would be responsible for his life. thank goodness he picked the thick ones. he got only a light injury to one of his legs, but other than that he was unharmed, but i guarantee his pride took a hit that day. it's almost time for us to give away an ipad mini. >> that's right in just a little bit we'll be giving you the friday buzzword and telling you how to enter and win. >> remember, you have to be 18 years or older and a u.s. resident to ter. >> t mini giveaway coming up. a couple of people minding their own 5business but there's always someone that will want to interfere, this first one is a surveillance video from a barber shop in texas, he wants his fair, the nice fade, you know, use the number two, the number one. just in the middle of it all
9:37 am
happening, look at the door because immediately through the door two good men with weapons in their hand pointing at the customers and the employees, they order everybody to the ground and as soon as everyone's on the ground facing down, they start going through their pockets taking whatever it is they can take and eventually a little while later they do -- they do get up. they walk out the door to see what they can see but at that point those guys are gone. police are still looking for those two suspects. another very scary situation in washington, d.c., at an atm. you know, some of us use the drive-through atm because it's easy. immediately someone else walks up and also using a weapon starts demanding the money from this poor person trying to just get some cash out of the atm and you see -- you see the suspect there hanging out for a little bit, probably pointing a gun at the person even though it's not clear in the video, demanding that they withdraw cash and it all goes, quote-unquote,
9:38 am
smoothly and the guy is able to get away, again, police are looking for this guy, but they are offering a $10,000 reward in this case. it's the photo seen across the web. >> that is a sheep. that sheep is mr. free. >> now hear the sweet story behind the famous mr. freeze. and a golf cart gets the stiff arm. but this happens -- >> over and over and over again. >> we'll clear up the mystery behind the golf-gate scandal. sofa... desk...
9:39 am
you know what? why don't you go get some frozen yogurt. i got this. you're so sweet. you got this, right? i do got this. from the shelf, and to your home. starting at $99.

starting at $99. you probably already know this but the big game is this sunday. >> if you're watching for the commercials we're here to help you out. >> go over to rightthisminute.com. >> and click on right there watch the commercials from the big game. >> and you can watch them as many times as you want. >> and have a great sunday, everybody. you know, the little wooden gate arms at a parking lot or a toll booth or something. every now and then those things get bumped, somebody accidentally crashes into it. this video from a neighborhood in sumter county, florida, is very popular neighborhood for golf carts. about 50,000 golf carts in that area. and here comes one lady. >> oh, boy. >> right, you think that would maybe happen once in a while but this video shows it happening over and over and over again. people not paying attention one
9:42 am
bit in their little golf cart. just crashing right through this gate. >> is it the people's fault or is it the fact that this sensor doesn't recognize the golf cart? >> definitely not a mechanical issue here. the gate is designed to let one car through at a time. when the gate goes up the golf carters feel they can zip through. not the case. kind of comes down right as they are passing through. >> they're not following the rules. >> no. very busy intersection for the golf carts. and the community is looking in to putting a stoplight in this area. >> where do they have to be this quickly? i don't know if it's a retirement community, kind of looks like it is, that's when you relax and take it in. you've got nothing to do. >> it's pretty funny to see how often it happens. what do you do when it's awfully cold outside and you got a little ice on your windshield, right? in poland a little bit of ice is a lot of ice and that little scraper doesn't quite cut it, so this guy gets out a mallet. the only way he's going to get into that car which appears to be sealed shut is to just whistwhichisel
9:43 am
it away. >> doing a little damage, though, ultimately once the ice is gone i feel like he's going to have a whole bunch of dings. >> you might see little divots or something. he doesn't appear to care. i think it's the funniest thing. oregon state university, beaver nation, has become sheep nation because this post. notice somebody snapped a picture spotted at my university just a goat in a backpack. that's not a goat, that is a sheep. that sheep is mr. freeze and mr. freeze has a very important story. >> he got really cold and he stopped eating so i had to take care of him for a few days but he's back with his mom. yeah. >> he's wearing a diaper. the sheep is wearing a diaper. >> and a sweater. >> he was in her backpack when she was getting coffee. he was hanging out. >> is this a service animal? >> no. this is kalen, she's a fourth-year animal science
9:44 am
student and she's a volunteer at the sheep barn at oregon state university. the reason why mr. freeze is in her backpack is he got so cold that he wasn't eating. he's only days old and he needed to eat so one of the professionals there said, do you know what, he needs to be taken home and cared for my hand so he'll stop suckling again. >> isn't it funny about him wearing a wool sweater? >> yep. >> a human wearing a skin sweater. this story has gone viral a tad more than a 1 million views. >> it is darn cute. >> and he looks comfortable in there. >> yeah. >> i guess this answers the question, ba ba black sheep have you any wool in no, sir, not at oregon state university. girls cracking some ice but -- >> keep watching. >> see how the ice cracks her. and two words, ipad mini. all you need for your chance to win is one word, friday's buzzword is next.
