within minutes of the seahawks win, fans set a mattress and other trash on far not far from pike place markets. you can see hundreds of people surrounding the flames. as for the game, from the very start it was all seattle. they scored on the second play and never looked back. the final score, 43-8. we have live team coverage. gasia mikaelian is at metlife stadium in new jersey, and ktvu's heather holmes watched the game with fans here in the bay area. >> our coverage begins with our sports director what. a performance bey seattle. >> i don't think the odds makers called it. it's hard to believe that denver actually wept in as the favorite. i think i speak for many a 49er fan that says don't even put peyton manning in the same sentence any more with joe montana. broadway joe got a little carried away with the coin

flip. first play from scrimmage, manny ramirez snapped it right past peyton manning. the seattle safety, two points, quickest score in super bowl history. 12 seconds. following the first of two peyton interceptions, the seahawks marshawn lynch and local product is in for the touchdown. second quarter, manning pressured, hit by cliff avril. malcolm smith will go 69 yards. 22-0 at halftime. they'd need the largest comeback ever to make a game of it. are you thinking comeback? not even. percy harvin injured most of the season, worth all his dough right there. 87 yards with the second half opening kickoff. it was never game for peyton manning and the denver broncos. his counterpart, quarterback russell wilson, had nothing new for the seahawks.

>> reporter: oh, julie, we saw an awful lot of pinnal orange leaving early but you can see we are well after the game and there are still a ton of seahawks fans inside metlife stadium cheering for the players. they are chanting, they are enjoying their big win tonight. but earlier, i say early in the fourth quarter, we saw an awful lot of broncos fans leaving the game because they had no reason to stay. >> reporter: how are you doing? >> awesome! go hawks! >> we got to go, because the broncos lost. i'm sad and happy. >> reporter: we found this group of niners fans leaving the super bowl early. the two men are best friends. they say the game would have had a different outcome if the niners were in it. >> got to meet my old high school friend and college friend. great experience. >> i think of the niners and what could have been, what should have been.

15-year-old son. erica smith called for peace and prayers as she stood outside the boys club where her teenage son was shot and killed. she is remembering her son as a beautiful boy, a student who loved math and brought him good grades. oakland police were asking for help in solving the double homicide. ktvu on what happened and also reaction from the victim's sister. >> reporter: sharda macon is flooded with emotion. she said denzel was only 15. >> i know it pains him to see us like this because i know he didn't mean for this to happen. >> reporter: denzel and a family friend were shot and killed outside the boys and girls club 10:45 saturday night. sharda got a call and rushed to the crime scene. >> i can hear my mom grieving.

i can hear her screaming. >> reporter: police blocked off the area for hours. sha da says her older brother was with denzel and the friend minutes before the shooting. he heard the gunshots and saw a red car speed away. police have no motive and no suspects. >> we're really concerned about their neighbors. >> reporter: a small memorial has formed on the blood-stained sidewalk outside the boys and girls club. sharda says her family is desperate to find denzel's killer before the gunman hurts another person. >> he's just a kid, a baby. i feel like he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. and unfortunately i guess it was his time. >> reporter: oakland police and crimestoppers are offering up to $20,000 to anyone with information that can lead to an arrest. the two deaths bring the city's number of homicides to 11 since the start of the year.

reporting in oakland, ktvu channel 2 news. a richmond man was found shot to death this morning outside a bar in pinole on san pablo avenue a few minutes after midnight. paramedics responded but declared the man dead at the scene. police say the victim was a 30- year-old man, but they haven't released his identity. no arrests have been made. a federal investigation into the death of a patient in a stairwell at san francisco general hospital finds both the hospital and the sheriff's department tore blame. inspectors found that hospital nurses failed to keep an around- the-clock watch on the 57-year- old as order by her doctor. the report called the deputy's search for her chaotic and poorly coordinated. a spokesman for the spalding family says this confirms neither the hospital nor the sheriff's department took her disappearance seriously. plans to move the golden state warriors to a new arena

in san francisco are being delayed. the team's plan to open a new arena by 2017 is now on hold at least a year. this comes just days after we learned that the estimated cost just to fix the piers where the arena would be built has doubled to $180 million. they need extensive repair work. continuing coverage of the super bowl xlviii, and the seattle seahawks' big victory over the denver broncos. there were watch parties all over the bay area including at the theater in alameda where people got a chance to see the big game on the big screen. >> heather holmes was there. heather tried something different to give us another perspective on the game. >> reporter: frank and julie, for the first time the historic alameda theater opened its doors for super bowl fans. i kind about 200 people when the game started. by the third quarter, a third of the people left. you know how the nfl mics up

that will easily get us some valley fog. so late tonight, early tomorrow morning in the north bay and inland valleys a shot for fog. we're checking temperatures in the morning. they are going to be down to 32 degrees in santa rosa, 33 in fairfield, 33 degrees in antioch. so overnight lows are going to be cooler than they have been. in these inland bay valleys we're looking for patchy valley fog. the weather system as it moves out tomorrow morning will leave a few clouds down in the monterey area but that's about it. the clouds are going to move south as that system moves south. as i mentioned before some really good news here in that weather system off the pacific, you see some showers here in the foothills, but watch the flow now. it is all starting to come out of the west. this develops as we head into the next 48 hours and should carry through the next couple of weeks. it is going to completely change the five-day forecast ace show it to you in a little

bit. plenty of moisture, plenty of opportunities for scattered showers in the bay area over the next few days. so a big change from what we have been seeing. when i come back we are going to track out the long-range models and look at the five-day forecast. we'll talk more about the places that valley fog will show up tomorrow. but much needed rain today, snow in the mountains. couldn't ask for more. people across america are mourning the death of actor philip seymour hoffman tonight. he was found with a needle in his arm in his manhattan apartment today. he apparently overdosed on heroin. reporter stefanie elam on the acclaimed actor's death and addiction. >> reporter: he was an actor that transformed into every character he played. it was hoffman's lead role in this film that won the actor an oscar. a sizable man, hoffman

convincingly transformed on screen into the author truman capote. a seminole experience for the actor. >> when i got "scent of a woman" when i was 24 years old, the director grabbed me and said, you got the part. >> reporter: hoffman continued to make a name for himself in the highly regarded "boogie nights," a period piece. the intense hoffman garnered three tony nominations as well as three others for best supporting actor. for ""charlie wilson's war"" as a nonconforming cia agent. >> since there's no other reason i should be here, let's assume i'm pretty good at. this. >> what did you hear? what did you see that convinced you so thoroughly? >> reporter: in real life hoffman was a man who struggled

with addiction. he told "60 minutes" he nearly died of substance abuse after he graduated from nyu. >> everything i could get my hands on, yeah. i liked it all. >> reporter: just last year hoffman revealed that he checked into a rehab facility last may for prescription drug and heroin use. a private unassuming man, hoffman will be remembered for his roles in more than 50 movies including the talented mr. rim and "the hunger games," roles that cemented hoffman as one of the best actors of his generation. >> it doesn't get any better than when you go to work, get a job as an actor, and with that happens you think that's it. when you're an actor and all of a sudden someone gives awe good job, you literally think you're more high than you'll be for the rest of your life. >> reporter: hoffman is survived by his longtime girlfriend and this athree young children. he was 46 years old. >> here in the bay area hoffman is well-known for his role in

the oakland a's film "moneyball." ahead tonight, the stunned reaction to his sudden death and a statement we received from the actor's family. untrue and disgraceful. that's how a spokesperson for actor and director woody allen is characterizing new allegations that he sexually abused his seven-year-old daughter who was adopted. the allegation first surfaced in 1992 when allen and actress mia farrow were going through an ugly separation and fighting over the custody of their three children. yesterday the "new york times" published a letter from 28-year- old dillon farrow where she described the alleged assaults in detail. allen was never charged and today his representative issued a statement that read in part, a thorough investigation was conducted. the experts concluded there was no credible evidence of molestation and that dillon farrow had likely been coached by her mother me a mia farrow.

centurylink field. there's a large crowd there waving flags, and basically celebrating this huge dominating performance by the seahawks. actually, seattle is known for having some very passionate fans. there are a lot of police on hand to hopefully keep things under control. we're not hearing about any arrests yet. we did see some pictures of a small fire but at least for now it looks like peaceful celebrations j. an estimated $4 million for a 30-second spot, super bowl commercials are high stakes. >> today it was a puppy that trotted across millions of screens. [ music ] >> usa today invited people to choose their favorite super bowl ad, and for the second consecutive year, anheuser- busch earned top honor, featuring a spot of a puppy who keeps escaping to visit his

friend, a clydesdale horse. they may be cute and provocative, but for tall hype do super bowl ads really work? a tucson research firm says no, but others say 80% of the super bowl ads don't increase sales. the firm reached its conclusion by interviewing 1,000 consumers before and after they were exposed tolt ads in the 2012-13 super bowl broadcast. ktvu.com has an extensive super bowl section including many of this year's commercials. look for the link on the front page. now to tonight's special report. when the super bowl comes to the bay area in two years hopefully we are going to see a closer game than what we saw today. the 49ers new stadium in santa clara is about 80% complete. the other day i got a chance to tour the stadium. it has some very interesting

features. the first thing you notice when you see the stadium is how big it is and how open it is. and there are workers everywhere. a crew of 900 people racing against the clock to get it done. project engineer jack hill gave us our tour, and it came right after he had just finished taking 49ers coaches on a similar tour. >> we had 12 of the coaches and assistants. they hadn't seen it for almost a year, and they were just blown he away. >> during the tour we walked under the stadium to the 49ers locker room, and it is huge. when it's done, it will include a dry sauna, a hydro therapy pool, and hot and cold plunges. it will even after barber's chair. then on game day, once the players are dressed, they'll walk down this hallway, and what's cool is that they'll be walking right past hundreds of fans at this hughes pi tal tee area on the right. then right after that, they turn the corner and there's the

field. at the moment it's just a dirt field. the grass is still growing at west coast turf in livingston in the central valley. this is video that they sent us showing the exact field where the grass will come from. it's a special type of bermuda grass, and at some point next month the plan is to cut the field into strips, roll up the glass, arched truck to the santa clara. so right now i'm down on what will be the field of the new 49ers stadium. this will be the end zone. but i want to show you just how close the stands are, just how intimate the field here is at this new stadium. look at this. there are the seats right there. now, there are some other things that fans will like. the average concourse at levi's stadium will be 63 feet wide. at candlestick they're only 19 feet wide. there will also be 30 escalators at levi's stadium compared to only six at candlestick. and 370 concession stands compared to 23-9d at candlestick. levi's stadium also has two

huge hi-def score boards that are 48 feet tall and 200 feet wide. to put in that perspective they're 10 times bigger than the scoreboard at candlestick. you will also notice the unusual configuration. three-quarters of the stadium is pretty much all seats but on the fourth side it's most al tower of just sweets. so right now i'm in the he will vies suite. this is actually a double suite. you can see how big it is. they still have a little work to do before it is complete but look at this. they are right on the 50-yard line. so when you come out here you have a great view of the game. a nearby suite is a little further along, and you can really get an idea of just how nice it is going to be. all of the wood is bamboo, including on the refrigerator, and there are also little features like tile above the sink. one of the things i found most interesting was when we got in an elevator and went all the way up to the roof. right now i'm standing on top

of the new 49ers stadium. this is going to be a green area with a garden. about 500 to 1,000 people will be able to come up here, and there will be glass here. they have got a beautiful view of the stadium. back below ground this is one of the massive kitchens. crews will partially prep the food before take it to the actual serving stations for final preparation. this is one of many giant freezers just for beer. a lot of beer. in fact, there are four of these freezers on this level alone. >> we want the beer to be cold and the fans to have a fresh beer. >> gotta have that fresh beer. >> gotta be cold, too. so not only beautiful but seems like the new stadium is going to have a lot of high-tech gadgets. >> it is going to be incredibly high-tech. they haven't announced it as yet but some of the things you may be able to do, use your phone for your ticket, use your phone to order food from your see. even use your phone to watch replays. let's just say it's going to be
