firefighters have had problems at that boarded up building. a major change at the number two country's drugstore chain. the reaction to cvs cutting off cigarettes and other tobacco products. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." two pedestrian accidents in san francisco in less than 24 hours. we're live at the scene of the latest one, a hit and run that left a man in critical condition. coming up, we'll have a live report on what investigators are doing in the hopes of catching the the driver who sped off. i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. mostly clear right now. but low clouds already

the 50s. here's sal. we have a problems. stevens creek offramp. i circleled it here. those ramps are closed because of power lines down on stevens creek. chp has issued a slet. it's causing slow traffic in the area. it's normally slow there anyway, it may be adding to the congestion. those people can't get off and they have to go down one more or up one more. cannot use stevens creek offramp from 880 north and south because of power lines that are down. they don't want any traffic on that section. they closed off the freeway offramps to that location. i want to show you 237, stop- and-go traffic getting into the valley. the best freeway to get in will probably be 85 or 280. 101, 237 are slow. when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, you will see a backup there. it's backed up for a 25, 30- minute delay before you get into san francisco.

time 7:03. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. we begin with another major pedestrian crash in san francisco. it's the second in the city in less than 24 hours. the latest happened around 2:30 at van ness avenue and grove street right near city hall. ktvu's alex savidge is at the scene where police have been searching for the hit-and-run driver for hours. good morning, alex. >> reporter: well, good morning to you. the investigation has wrapped up here at the scene of this crash. now officers are on the lookout for a dark-colored suv that hit a man who was in this crosswalk early this morning trying to cross van ness. it's unclear at this point if the pedestrian had a green light at the time of the accident. the suv was up coming south on van ness and the driver kept on going after this crash. police are not sure exactly how fast the suv was going. the man who was hit has critical injuries and is at san francisco general hospital. the crash happened before 2:30 this morning. it's right outside of city hall. the victim in this case, a man in his 50s flew through the air

landed in the middle of the intersection. at the time he was carrying a bag full of recyclables. bottles, cans strewn across the street. the san francisco police department's major accident investigation team came out here and gathered evidence but they've seen cleared this since. van ness is back open to traffic in both directions. right now, police don't have a whole lot of information to go on as they search for this hit- and-run driver. they don't have an exact make and model on that suv. all they are saying, it's a dark-colored suv. but one tactic they will be using as we bring you back out live, investigators potentially are gonna be going through some of the surveillance video from cameras mounted on city hall as well as other buildings in this area trying to see if any of those cameras captured more images of this suv. again, involved in an early- morning hit-and-run crash near city hall that left a man in his 50s with life-threatening injuries. we're live this morning in san francisco, alex savidge, ktvu

channel 2 news. >> thank you. 7:05. people living near san francisco's lake merced area are concerned this morning about pedestrian safety. 78-year-old isaac barenzon was hit and killed while trying to cross sunset boulevard yesterday morning. three people in the car suffered non-life-threatening injuries. police cannot say if speed was a factor in the crash. investigators in vallejo say one person was killed in a highway crash during a police chase. now, it happened last night on the interstate 880 connector to 780. police officers involved in a weapons chase started chasing the car on vallejo city streets. that chase then moved onto the freeway and that's where the cash crashed into a tree. the driver a man in his twegets was pronounced dead. a teenaged passenger was not seriously hurt. we have new information from hayward on an officer- involved shooting last night

that left a 62-year-old woman dead. police arrived at an apartment complex on foothill last night doing a welfare check on the woman. police say she made several 911 calls saying she was depressed. when they arrived, the woman was holding the handgun. she refused to put it down. that's when police opened fire. coming up at 7:30, we'll get a live report from the neighborhood where all of this happened, wile bring you reaction from the police and from the neighbors. 7:07. firefighters are still cleaning up this morning after a huge fire at an abandoned grocery store in oakland. it started just before 9:00 last night on international boulevard and burned for several hours. you can see the massive flames and firefighters say this is not the first fire at this boarded up building. >> no one was here upon our arrival. call came in through 911.

>> firefighters say previous fires were started by homeless people who broke into the building. they say no one was inside when they arrived last night. the cause of the fire is under investigation. meanwhile, the cause of another fire that injured one firefighter early this morning is also under investigation. it started just after 4:15 in an apartment building on santa clara avenue near grand street in alameda. the people inside were evacuated and crews contained the fire about 25 minutes later. the firefighter was taken to the hospital. his injuries are not life- threatening. 7:08. new this morning, the nation's second biggest drugstore announced it's stopping the sell of cigarettes and more tobacco-related products. brian flores is in the newsroom telling us the impact this will have on the company and you're getting reaction from viewers. >> reporter: cvs company president larry merlot says

ending the sell of these products is the right thing to to to help those on their path to better health. they will stop selling these products by october 1st. through a press release, the company estimates it will lose 2 billion in revenue on an annual basis from shoppers. some analysts say this move to benefit in the long run allowing them to strike deals with insurance companies and hospitals. we posted whether you will continue to shop there or not on took and twitter. we got a lot of reaction. one says, good cvs. never liked to smoke anyway. jason says it's not going to stop people from smoking. you are only hurting yourselves. in the meantime, president obama has released a statement saying as one of the largest retails in america, cvs sets a

made to the couple's apartment in the weeks before the child's death. >> what did they enencounter when they went out there before, what did they see. >> the mayor indicated a grand jury could eventually look into this. climate change is on the mind of the obama administration. today it will announce a creation of seven regional hubs to help royal communities deal with climate change. these hubs will distribute information to farmers and ranchers about weather-related irons like droughts, floods and fires. in addition to the seven regional hubs, there will also be three subhubs. one subhub will be in davis here in northern california. it will focus on specialty crops. the seven hubs will be in iowa, new hampshire, north carolina,

good morning. welcome back. 7:15. a former swim coach from marinwood accused of sexting with a minor is pleading guilty. yesterday, 38-year-old jason ward of san rafael admitted to one count of sending lewd material to a minor. now, he won't be going to jail but he will have to register as a sex offender. the girl was 17 years old when she reported the allegations last march. she says the sexting started four years ago when she was on the marinwood water devils swim

team. 7:15. new this morning, the united nations is calling on the vatican to immediately remove from the church all priests suspected of child abuse. there was a report released accusing the vatican of hiding the sexual abuse of tens of thousands of children. the report was also harshly critical of the vatican's position on homosexuality, contraception and abortion. the vatican responded by saying it's committed to protecting children from abuse and accused the u.n. of trying to interfere with church teaches -- teachings. another cheating scandal in the u.s. military. now the navy is investigating cheating allegations against the trainers at a school for naval nuclear power reactor operators. the navy says at least 30 sailors are accused of cheating on tests that they have to pass to become instructors. this follows another investigation into cheating by meles of the air force --

park near mineta san jose international airport are angry about landscaping changes near their buildings. crews have started to cut down the redwood trees. the city says about 85 trees are being cut down. the property owner says those trees are to go to help modernize the property and they plan to replace the redwoods with different trees. but some of the tenants worry the new trees won't be good for wildlife there. >> there was a falcon up in one of the red roads right here. a falcon -- redwoods right here. it's gone now. >> some tenants say they plan to petition to protest the removal of those trees. tesla is gaining ground in the rankings of best-liked cars. they are in fifth place after ranking 11th last year and that's despite the fire chars

terror attack. frills say while russian security seems to be adequate inside sochi, there is a possibility for an attack in the area outside of the venues. the reporters arriving to cover the winter olympics in sochi, they confirm a lot of the hotels are not ready to receive guests. here's a photo. this was tweeted out by a cnn reporter. he said that of the 11 hotel rooms they reserved, this was the only one that was ready. look at this. it was a shamble. and here's a photo tweeted out by another journalist. i'm sorry to show you this at breakfast time. she said when she arrived, her hotel had no water. she was told when the water came back on, she couldn't drink it or use it to wash her face. she saw why when the water was restored. this is what the drinking water looked like. a big party in seattle celebrating the super bowl champion seahawks. about 500,000 people may go to the victory party in downtown

seattle. it starts at 11:00 this morning and then there's a big rally afterwards at the centurylink field, the home of the seahawks. the seattle school superintendent even reversed an earlier decision. he will let kids skip school so they can go to the victory celebration if their principal says it's okay. 7:27. a second oakland raiders cheerlead leader is suing the team. sara g she's identified as. she's joined the class-action suit followed by a woman identified as lacy. they were paid $125 a game or $1250 for the season. they say that's well below the state's minimum wage of $8 an hour. the raiders have declined climate. the white house is recommending a set of guidelines for businesses attacked by hackers. the obama administration sold a

clouds will come in. we get a little bit of sun in the morning and then look for mostly cloudy to cloudy conditions later on. 20s for clearlake, napa airport, st. helena, forestville to name a few. there were a lot this morning. it was cold. napa airport still 29. 30s, 40s, temperatures coming up because some of the cloud cover is coming in especially along the san mateo coast. you can see leading edge is there. it's knocking on the door, as we say. it's right there. it will be in tonight with rain. it looks pretty good. maybe .5 to over an inch of rain is coming up and over of the, warm source colliding with -- coming up and over, the warm source colliding with the air. that's good for us. this will turn to snow in the sierra. probably again in cobb mountain. sun, clouds. clouds will move in fast. cold, rain later. it will be a cool day. highs in the 50s.

here's sal. we have a look at some of the traffic being held up by various things. let's go to highway 24 first. there was a stalled vehicle right near the la fayette b.a.r.t. station. that's been cleared. but traffic is still recovering from 680 as you head up to the oakland side of the world. it will be about a 15-minute drive which is longer than normal. by the way, b.a.r.t. is on time in case you are wondering about that. the system is reporting no issues. bay bridge toll plaza, that's a 40-minute delay if you can count the time crossing the brick. kind of a long one. nothing unusual. plan on waiting there a little bit. unless you are in the carpool lane, it will be quite a while. we have the san jose commute, we have a problem at stevens creek boulevard offramp to 880. power lines are down on a nearby road. ktvu's janine de la vega is live on the scene to explain what happened. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning. i'm standing on stevens creek boulevard right now which is closed northbound and southbound. you can see that big rig over there. we believe it's one of the big

rigs involved. apparently following another one and it caught some power lines. it completely took down traffic signals here. it also took down some power lines. so this is definitely causing a big tieup on the freeway because we understand that the northbound and southbound lanes of -- northbound and southbound on and offramps are closed to stevens creek on 880. to get more information about exactly what happened and on what the impact is, it looks like you have a lot of cleanup to do is the sergeant with the san jose police department. >> we're learned about the wires being live and at that point, the electrics are making -- electricians are making sure they are disabled. the major concern, there's a lot of traffic that will need to come through the intersection. the wires took down the traffic signals for traffic coming off the freeway and traffic going back and forth on stevens creek. it will take a while before we sort it out. >> reporter: any sort of time

estimate at all? >> not right now. i think it will be a while. >> reporter: as far as -- it looks like power is still on in the area. i see these traffic lights at stevens creek in monroe are working. is this isolated as far as power being out in the area? >> reporter: i believe so. i think it's isolated at the intersection. but a lot of glass in the street and a big mess. how many people here are on scene? chp, caltrans? it's a joint effort? >> yeah, there's electricians from caltrans, pg&e, fire crews are here. chp is working to keep traffic off the freeway coming onto stevens creek. a lot of san jose pd units. >> thank you so much. >> reporter: we were coming here on 880 in the southbound lanes and the backup started at bascom avenue. it's no doubt increasing. this is a very popular exit, stevens creek, it's near the valley fair mall. but again, avoid stevens creek,

both directions are closed from monroe to desalva on the other side of the ramp here. we'll continue to update you on the situation. as you heard, it will be several hours before they have this all cleaned up. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 7:36. the investigation continues into last night's deadly police shooting of a 62-year-old woman in hayward. ktvu's tara moriarty joints us from hayward police headquarters with the new information about what the woman had in her hand that may have lead to this deadly confrontation. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. police are in a meeting right now. we think it may be to discuss what happened last night. according to the police report, officers responded to her apartment. she waved a gun threateningly and they said for her to put the weapon down several times. she did not. that's when one of the officers feared for his own life and shot her. she was rushed to eden valley

medical center and died. neighbors heard five gunshots around 7:15 last night. initially the woman called 911 and said she was depretsed. pleasanton police calls and asked for a welfare check. two officers responded to the 21000 block of foothill boulevard to the apartments. >> there was five relatively loud gunshots. consecutive gunshots in a row. >> what did you do? >> well, i was in the room at the time. i immediately ran to the other room until, you know, i thought everything was safe. >> reporter: neighbors tell ktvu that the woman had recently moved into the apartment with her grown son. she's not been identified yet and neither has the officer who shot her. we know she's been with the department in hayward for one year. meantime, hayward police are investigating the shooting with the alameda county district attorney's office.

we're hoping that they will give us an update and help us know the identity of the woman involved. we're live in hayward, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 7:37. a police chase in san francisco led to gunfire and a massive manhunt. it all began around noon yesterday when police tried to pull over the driver of a stolen car in the potrero hill neighborhood. the driver led police on a chase before smashing into several cars in the dog patch neighborhood. police say an officer opened fire after the driver tried to ram a police car. >> while he was ramming back and forth to get through. he actually turned around and looked and turned the car at the officer and backed out. the officer fired upon him fearing for his own safety. >> safety. >> the suspect managed to run from police. he's still on the run. it's unclear whether he was hit by gunfire. charges may be filed against the man whose car crashed into a 7-eleven in hayward. it happened on jackson near

sycamore avenue around 9:30. windows were shattered, several displays and sheafls were damaged -- shelves were damaged. that driver was taken to the hospital for treatment. a store employee said he smelled chock on the -- alcohol on the driver. >> sitting at home watching tv, too much noise like someone crashed. so i came outside and i see someone, you know, like a car going in the store. i was shocked. >> because it was late at night, the 7-eleven was not crowded. no other injuries are reported. 7:39. there are storm warnings posted from kansas to southern maine. boston could receive up to an inch of snow per hour this morning. some parts of massachusetts could get a foot of snow by the end of the day. across the country, 120 million americans live in the path of this storm. several governors have also declared states of emergency. a deadly pileup shut down a section of the pennsylvania turnpike early this morning. the driver of a big rig lost

control on the slick road and went right through the barrier. he slammed into three other tractor-trailers and a car on the other side. one person in one of the big rigs was killed. another was injured. california citrus growers are reeling from the effects of december's deep freeze. central california growers say the cold temperatures may wipe out a quarter of california's $2 billion citrus industry. one farmer in san luis obispo county says he lost 5% of his crop. it's even worse for growers in the central valley. >> they walked through the orchards and it looks like it was hit by an entire fire. >> you and i may feel the pain at the sumpt market. expect higher prices for lemons, lettuce and avocados and orange and mandarin oranges. police say street robberies

rose almost 15% in 2013 compared to the year before. there were also 169 more car break-ins in 2013 over last year. that's a 70% increase. the warning from police comes after a recent home invasion where a couple in their 80s was robbed at gunpoint. police held a community meeting to reassure residents and they said solving this case is their top priority. san francisco supervisors have introduced a controversial soda tax that would impose a 2- cent per ounce tax on sugary drinks, including sodas, energy drinks and sports drinks. supporters say the drinks would make the drinks too exexpensive forcing people to choose healthier alternatives. but opponents say it would only raise the cost of living in an already expensive city. >> it's being applied unfairly

some areas will get more rain than they have had in the last year. a cold morning. 50s on the temperatures the here's sal. suddenly, this wednesday is not going well on the roads. i want to show you the problem in san jose. the power lines are down at stevens creek offramp from 880. you can't get off there. that's causing a huge traffic jam on 880 southbound. a lot of people use that offramp. now it's backing up to an area it normally wouldn't. 280 is slow. it always is. there's a new problem just off the benicia bridge. sig-alert issued, southbound 680 at pacheco. two lanes are blocked there. and traffic is backing up across the benicia bridge. the alternate route for you could be to use the carquinez bridge and then use highway 4 eastbound to get around that problem. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza. it's improved a little bit. about a 15-minute wait before you get on the bridge. highway 4, westbound getting better. it's still slow out of antioch. back to the desk.

a pd pedestrian is in the hospital fighting for his life. he's the latest victim in a rash of pedestrian car crashes in san francisco. alex savidge is at van ness and grove where police have been looking for the hit-and-run driver. >> reporter: good morning to you. san francisco police are on the lookout for a dark-colored suv who hit this man as he was trying to cross van ness. police say the pedestrian was in this crosswalk, although it's unclear if he had a green light at the time. the suv was coming south on van ness. driver just kept on going after that crash. police are not sure how fast this suv was going. the man would was hit is nis his 50s -- was hit is in his 50s. the crash was before 2:30 right outside of city hall. the victim was thrown through the air and landed right in the middle of the intersection. at the time, he was carrying a bag full of recyclables. there were bottles and cans

strewn across the street. san francisco police department's major accident investigation team was called out here to gather evidence at the scene. their work has since wrapped up. right now, police don't have a whole lot of information to go on here about the driver they are looking for or the make or model of that suv. but as we come back out here to a live picture, city hall could play a key role in this investigation. police told me they may try to pull surveillance video from some of the cameras mounted on city hall as well as other buildings in the area too try to see if they -- to try to see if they show this early-morning crash and police are hoping to get a better idea of this bet suv they are searching for -- of this suv they are searching for. the driver took off and left this man with life-threatening injuries. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. near lake merced, more concerns about pedestrian safety. yesterday morning, 78-year-old

isaac borenzon was hit and killed by by a car while he was crossing sunset. three people in the car were hurt. the police investigation continues. we have more about the recent rise in pedestrian deaths in san francisco. 60% of major pedestrian crashes happened in just 6% of the city. last year, 21 pedestrians were hit and killed. that's the most since 2007. four bicyclists were killed. that's the most since 2001. and san francisco is developing an initiative to reduce the number of pedestrian deaths to zero by the year 2020. pedestrian safety is one of the many issues facing the municipal transportation agency. the board met yesterday identifying problems in the next two years. they want to improve pedestrian safety at 4 intersections. they also want -- 24ent spws -- 24 intersections. muni wants to replace the aging fleet of light rail calls and

they want to increase all transit service by 10% over the next two years. 8:06. this morning, firefighters are still cleaning up after a huge fire at an abandoned grocery store in oakland. it started just before 9:00 last night on international boulevard and it burned for several hours. you can see the massive flames. firefighters say this is not the first fire at this boarded up building. >> no one was here upon our arrival. the call came in through 911. someone was passing by and saw smoke coming out of the building. >> firefighters say previous fires have been started by homeless people who broke into the building but they say no one was inside when they arrived last night and the cause of the fire is under investigation. the cause of another fire that injured one firefighter early this morning is also under investigation. this fire started after 4:15 in an apartment building on santa clara avenue near grand street in alameda. the people inside were

evacuated and crews contained the fire about 25 minutes later. the firefighter was taken to the hospital but his injuries are not life-threatening. investigators say one person was killed in a highway crash during a police chase in vallejo. it happened last night on the interstate 80 connector to 780. police officers involved in a weapons case started chasing the car on vallejo city streets. that chase then moved onto the freeway where the car crashed into a tree. the driver, a man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene. a teenaged passenger was not seriously hurt. your time 8:08. san francisco supervisors passed a ban the box law. that means employers and landlords in the city cannot ask a prospective worker or tenant about their criminal history. not right away. this is the extension of a 2006 city ordinance that did not allow employers to ask about

criminal convictions in the first stage of a criminal process. there are exceptions, for law enforcement and child care jobs. 8:08. cvs drugstores around the country announcing they will no longer sell cigarettes or tobacco-related products. ktvu's brian flores is live in the newsroom talking about the impact this is gonna have and you are getting a lot of reaction from our viewers. >> reporter: company president larry merlot says ending the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products is the right thing to do. they announced they will stop sellth the products -- selling the products at its stores by october 1st. the company estimates it will lose about $2 billion in revenue on an annual basis from tobacco shoppers. however, some analysts say the move to benefit cvs in the long one, allowing it to strike deals with hospitals and insurance companies.

guess the best thing would be to wait if you have that luxury. let's talk about the commute here on live pictures. this is a look at westbound bay bridge 15-minute delay at the toll plaza. ten minutes across into san francisco. interstate 280 and 880 slow in san jose because of earlier problems. one is a problem with power lines town on stevens creek boulevard. this is a big issue. let's go live to ktvu's janine de la vega who tells us what happened. were they any closer -- are they any closer to opening the road? >> reporter: it doesn't appear so. the big rigs that caused this accident just left the area, but there's still a big mess out here. a lot of shattered glass and stevens creek is closed here at monroe. so is the north and southbound on and offramps to stevens creek. those are closed. police just don't want anyone out here right now because there's no traffic signals and again they don't want anyone here until they open the road

back up. at around 6:30, a care vau van of -- caravan of eight big rigs traveling portal classrooms, when they passed to the 880 ramp, they hit a power line. it took town the power strins and a street sign. they say two traffic lights came down as well. it came crashing down in front of run of the big rigs. the wires were live. >> we weren't expecting any trouble because all of the other trucks exactly the same height as this one went through the intersection no problem. all of a sudden, there was a loud crash and the telephone pole and the lights came out into the intersection and made a big mess. and we had to stop here. >> these are temperature traffic signals while the construction is going on. it just happens to be where it

caught it at the low point of it. >> reporter: well, the driver that you heard from was in the lead car and he says that there was another car checking the height and claims that all of the big rigs were the same height but there's construction going on at this intersection. it's unknown if the wires were hanging lower than normal, since they were temporary. the stevens creek exits are closed onramps are affected. northbound and southbound. if you are trying to get to the valley fair mall or santana, you have to find another way on the city streets again, because police say it could be several hours before they open things back up. they are waiting for electricians right now to put in new traffic lights and back out here live, you can see they are sweeping up a lot of the debris. they just moved the broken traffic lights out of the way. but there's caltrans crews out here. there was pg&e crews out here earlier. a lot of wires down here on the sidewalk and on the ground. and such a busy intersection

gun threateningly in her apartment on foothill boulevard. they repeatedly asked her to put it down, they didn't listen. >> when the officers arrived, there made contact with the person and subsequently a shooting occurred. >> reporter: neighbors say that they heard five gunshots and police say one officer, fearing for his life, shot the woman. she later died at the hospital. neighbors tell ktvu that the woman had recently moved into the apartment with her grown soon. she's not been identified yet. neither has the officer who shot her. we know he's been with the department for at least a year. we're live in hayward, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. a police chase in san francisco yesterday led to officers opening fire and a matsive manhunt -- massive manhunt. it started around noon when police tried to pull over a stolen car in potrero hill. the driver led chase.

someone, you know, like a car going in the store. i was shocked. >> because at the time of day, there were not many people in the store. no one inside was injured. a warning from palo alto police about an increase in crime. police say street robberies rose almost 15% in 2013 compared to the year before. there were also 169 more car break-ins in 2013 than the previous year. a 70% increase. the warning from police comes after a recent home invasion where a couple in theirle 80s -- in their 80s was robbed at gunpoint. police held a community meeting to reassure residents and said solving this case is a top priority. zlar county supervisors voted to -- santa clara supervisors voted to penalize a fire department if their emergency response times don't get better. supervisors voted to put $700,000 earmarked for the fire department in a trust fund

stocks -- the modest recovery yesterday is not really carrying over in wall street. time warn eamp stock was down 2%. it's turned around and is up after the company reported a 12% drop in quarterly profits.

cvs's stock, i was curious to see how it was doing, that stock is down over 1.5% because they could lose $2 billion by making that change. dave will have more on that story in a moment. the dow dropped as much as 105 points in the first hour of trading. it's come back a little bit. it's down 19. the nasdaq is down 30. s&p down 6. well, it could be more difficult to find a radio shack store soon. the wall street journal reports the company plans to shut down about 500 of its stores in the next few months. radio shack had said it planned to restructure some of its business. it ran a big ad during the super bowl. it's not commenting on the newspaper's report. radio shack has 4300 stores around the country. let's bring you up to date on some of the other top stories we're following for you -- the cvs pharmacy chain announced it will stop setting gets and other tobacco products. by october 1st, tobacco sales will be phase the out at all

7600 locations. that decision could cost cvs $2 billion a year. oakland firefighters still investigating a huge fire at an abandoned grocery store. it broke out about 9:00 last night on international boulevard and burned for several hours. firefighters say homeless people have started fire asia vacant building in the past. no one was inside when firefighters arrived. no one of a vehicle that hit and critically injured a pedestrian. the victim was was a man in his 50s. he was in the crosswalk when he was hit about 2:30 at van ness avenue and grove street. investigators say that driver hit the pedestrian, then kept going. never stopped. it is 8:46. the san jose city council has agreed to extend a temporary ordinance allowing wild pigs to be trapped and killed. the year-long extension comes

after neighbors complained about wild hogs coming into their yards ander tearing up their property. the ordinance has been in effect for three months but no animals have been captured yet. one homeowner said she took these pictures of the pigs outside of her home last week. pigs have also been running loose in san ramon. licensed and approved trappers have gone out there. they've had absolutely no luck. these animals are smarter than one would think. city council members say the program needs more time and they will ask the department of fish and game to help come up with a permanent solution. wildlife officials say the drought conditions has likely contributed to more pigs looking for food in populated areas. 8:47. the white house now taking action today on the issue of climate change. pam cook is here to talk about who is gonna benefit pam and how california will play a role. >> it's part of the president's climate action plan. it's tee signed to help

an eye on a problem in the south bay. >> we've been looking at that problem that janine has been out. that would be the problem on stevens creek boulevard. still closed, by the way. stevens creek is closed from 880 northbound and southbound. i'm not allowing any traffic on stevens creek near the freeway. let's take a look at 880 northbound as you drive past the coliseum. you will see some slow traffic there as well. we're also looking at the bay bridge toll plaza, westbound. that's about a 15 to 20-minute wait before you actually make it onto the bridge. i also do want to mention 580 of santa rita still clearing a crash there. this has been a busy morning around the bay. we still have slow traffic on the all ta month pass -- altamonte pass. let's go to steve. rain and snow forecast for tonight and tomorrow. things get going by tonight and

a mosque in manteca has been vandalized again. the second time in three months. on sen tips were spray painted on the sign outside of the slauk center of manteca last week and also on the ground of the mosque. in addition, trips of raw bacon were found in the parking lot, an apparent insult ailed at the fact that muslims don't eat

pork. the council on the relations wants the fbi to investigate this as a hate crime. late last year, someone prayed no allah, only god, on the sign outside of the mosque. a news conference is set for noon in which a group of senior citizens evicted from their homes will ask the district attorney's office to file criminal charges against their landlords. the tenants accuse the landlords of illegal ellis act evictions. the ellis act is a california law that allows property owners to kick out tenants if the owners decide to sell off the apartments rather than use them as rentables. students at uc davis have a tasteny -- have a tiftty new class to go to on campus. it's designed to coffee. students learn how to brew, roast and grind coffee into a perfect cup. there's a one-hour lecture every week. they have two hours of lab time and up get a grade on who brews the best cup of coffee with the
