the bay area tracking the impacts of the wet weather and the changes it will bring to the drought conditions. a look at where things stand right now. we've been watching tracker two all day. it's lit up with green. that's rain falling. it's been heaviest in the north bay. the heaviest rain. napa has rain. heavy rain or moderate rain in the hayward area. in santa rosa up to an inch of rain. and this is the bulls-eye the north bay section for the heaviest rain for saturday and sunday. there's the san mateo brim, nasty afternoon commute as the rain really came, one, two, three, 4:00. this is just sort of the rest between storms. the next system three times as

powerful, four times as powerful as today. more rain in the forecast. as for the storm we're getting right now, it is causing a variety of problems. in the south bay the combination of wind and rain could bring down large tree branches, some residents called in professional tree trimmers to get limbs cut down before they can cause dam. >> a leaky pipe has been fixed after leaking water in the wart center. it came from a drain above at street level. muni called engineers to stop the leak. david stephenson is live where crews are working to keep the power lines up. >> i'm near the intersection of 17th and folsom street, it is known for flooding during heavy

rain. now it's a steady drizzle but the fear is the street will be full of pools once the rain is heavier. there's another concern, the trees. pg&e dispatched tree trimming crews to cutback branches close to power lines. it's part of the year round vegetation management program but the fear is rain and wind will knock branches into power lines. pg&e is preparing command centers and beefing up staffing levels as the rain bears down to bay area. >> we have a meteorology department that helps in the planning process in determining the resources we need. >> and public works crews were on the streets of san francisco delivering sandbags. the development has plenty of bags available and asking

residents to call 311 over the weekend to report downed trees and power lines. >> sal joins us with the traffic. >> it's not good as you might imagine. we've had triple the number of incidents today because of the wet weather. that's the variable. i want to show you the roads. driving on them probably wouldn't be a good idea, if you have to go you have to go. this drive time has trippled getting up to vela he. -- valeo. this would normally take 20 minutes. this is taking 30 minutes or so, on the bridge another 25, we're looking at the better part of an hour to get into san francisco. we've had a lot of crashes, pleasanton has a tree down on

the allegations that warner once threatened a woman who was pregnant with his child. in this restraining order out of solano county a woman said i hope the kid dies. it paints a picture of someone who did not want to be responsible for a child. according to a former girlfriend of accused child killer ryan warner he said if i find out you're cheating on me i'll bust your teeth out with a pipe. i've been on the run many times. >> we found this in a note from two now eight. the person got a restraining order. he said i hope you and it die in the process. no one answered the door at warner's former address. he's now in napa county jail acrossed of killing his current

girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter, kayleigh slusher. the officers found the girl dead. they admitted to keeping the body in a suitcase and later a freezer. the grandmother called them concerned the girl's mother was using drugs. but officers said they found nothing wrong at the time. >> we're not identifying that former girlfriend in the 2008 restraining order. we've tried to reach out to her. warner will be back in dallas/fort worth later -- court later this month. the body of kayleigh slusher was found in a napa apartment last saturday. authorities believe she was killed a couple that's earlier. sara kreuger and ryan warner were arrested on sunday. an autopsy was performed on

monday and the couple were charged with her murder the following day. weapons and drugs, that's what police found in an oakland home. police discovered them near 31st and west street. police have released few details. there's no word of arrests or if officers were carrying out a search warrant or probation search. cal/osha is investigating an accident there killed two workers at a san francisco granite company. the two employees were working with granite slabs when one of the slabs fell on top of them. one worker died at the scene and the other at the hospital. a spike in flu deaths reported. the new trend doctors are noticing in the spread.

. a live look at storm tracker two. we're on storm watch as a storm waters over the bay area. bill will join us in four minutes. mark and john are live in the north bay where the water supply is critically low. >> a spike in flu deads, and more deaths in the bay area. santa clara county confirmed 14

flu related deaths. rob spoke with public health officials. >> this is the vaccine that's ideal for most people. >> at this clinic in san francisco doctors have seen more flu cases this year land last and the -- than last. the california department of public health says 202 other people have died from the flu, the vast majority from the h1n1 that does not include 41 cases under investigation, but it's double the 106 cases last year. that's a lot compared to last year. >> thomas is an epidemiologist for the health department. he believes fewer people died last year because the strain was a virus more people have built up immunities to.

you have a large pool of people who are susceptible. that's probably one of the reasons we're seeing a lot of cases now. >> the death toll includes 39 people from the bay area and four children under 4 years old. scientist will see if the current strain is more virulent. the number may have peaked three weeks ago. >> it looks like it has plateaued out but january was the up swing for us. >> vaccination is the best medicine but some resist. >> never had a problem, i don't think i will get one. we're not out the woods yet. flu season has at least another seven weeks to go. >> california first death from the whooping cough since 2010. it was an infant from riverside county. reports of whooping cough

started increasing last year. 83% of the patients in 2013 were children. it's cyclical that peaks every 3 to 5 years. the best way to keep babies from dying is vaccinated pregnant women. ross-williams pleaded not guilty to 4 charges including drug clashes computer hacking. he was arrested last year. police in pacifica are warning about a telephone scam targeting businesses. a caller is pretending to be with pg&e and says they are overdue on a utility bill and must pay. pg&e is aware of the scam be their employees do not ask for person, bank or credit card

and the creeks and could block flows. so far the ground has been dry so long the creeks are flashy, going from low to high running water, flow in the russian river expected to increase 100 times. it's been so dry it will likely stay below flood stage. people encouraged to avoid driving through standing water and listen for emergency broadcast. this storm could turn dangerous for anyone too close to rising water. >> raining all over the bay area, and the great news there's more on the way. >> we have mark, the meteorologist on the weekend. he's in the hedlands, we expect to see the heaviest rainfall,

five, six, 7 inches. >> the rainfall rates have been picking up. so far a steady rainfall, the bigger issue has been the wind. i measure the wind speed, we have a gust a few minutes ago 22 miles an hour, the number continues to go up, 14, 15 miles an hour. this is the welcome pattern. last night i saw a tweet from the national weather service in sacramento. they had a picture of a bucket. i have a rock in the buck tote hold it down. this is a 5-gallon bucket. this is the lack of rainfall in california over two years, i have a coffee mug, this respects the -- represents the rainfall we've had. we have a long way to go and this is just the beginning of the rainfall we need. >> we're going to get rain for

sure, we have a long way to go. mark thanks for your help. for us we have the showers in the bay area. what's happening in the north bay and the hedlands where mark was. all that moisture hits the hills and squeezes out more rain. let's say redwood city gets 3 inches of rain. they will double and triple that that the costal hills. here's the impressive thing. the moisture plume is impressive. can't show it enough. you get a line like that, you get the big rain. here's the upside. this will end, if we had four, five days of this in a row, we would have big river flooding problems. right now a bunch of rain, especially in the north bay, it will end as we go toward the end of the weekend. we remember times when it doesn't end. scattered showers, we are

getting a break. computer models saturday morning. raining pretty hard. saturday morning will be wet. then you go saturday midday. see the yellows, north bay. 1500 square miles. it's a big drainage basin. saturday at 8:00. more rain. if you're in san jose, you are getting rain saturday morning, most of that saturday storm, everyone will get rain. the big rain will be from san francisco up nord. that 6 to 7 inches possible. the temperature, these are the forecast highs. they are indicative of how tropical the air mass is. it's not a cold storm. the snow level is high. the snow that comes down will have a high water contact. again, the drought we saw mark
