tv Right This Minute FOX February 8, 2014 10:30am-11:01am PST
10:30 am
hi, everybody. i'm beth troutman. you want great videos, this is the show for you, "right this minute." >> sky diver makes a jump, then looks around and goes -- the scary sight from a pilot's close call. >> he flew right underneath our formation. >> wow. >> a car clips a gas valve, so a worker rushes to shut it off. >> thinking, okay, it wasn't that big of an emergency, right? >> the video that will change your mind. a lioness wanders into enemy territory.
10:31 am
>> look where it ended up. >> how an elephant says not in my backyard. plus, want a new ipad mini? we have the buzzword to win. and words of wisdom from a 2-year-old. >> these are the family rules that are posted up in reese's family kitchen. >> meet the new york kid with the world class manners. a terrifying close call, thousands of feet in the air. this is in the skies of dallas, texas. the camera is on jeff kauffman jr. he's a sky diver. he belongs to a team called the free flying skyscrapers. everything is going just fine, everything looks beautiful. they start doing the formation. holding hands, doing their thing. and everything they're doing seems to be right, except jeff loses his shoe, he turns back around and look ahead. >> no, are you kidding me? >> yes, that was one heck of a
10:32 am
close encounter with the little plane. >> that's terrifying. >> how does that happen? don't they close air space around jumps like that? >> let's find out. we have jeff. so, yeah, the question, what happened? how did it happen? >> in terms of how that happened, it is really a bit of a puzzle. our drop zone is marked. so pilots flying through the area know that it is the drop zone and they know that sky divers are there. in this case, my guess is the pilot didn't plan his route and if he did, he just flew too close. and ultimately what he did is he flew underneath our formation. >> wow. >> what can happen in a situation like this? does a pilot even know what he did, do you think? do you know who the pilot is? is there a fine? >> in terms of us knowing who the pilot is, we weren't able to find out because none of our video got the number on his plane, but i don't think it was intentional. >> how close of a call was this? how far were you guys away from
10:33 am
him? >> i wasn't really terrified or scared at that moment because i knew it wasn't going to hit me. but i saw it was really, really close. i was wearing a go pro. if you are familiar with those cameras, they're a wide angle lens, so things appear to be a little further than they actually are. so that plane was closer to me than what the camera actually shows. i would say that it was definitely within 500 feet. >> any concern that this is a local pilot, and maybe he does it again, just still doesn't know his air space? >> yeah, that's definitely a concern because it is nothe first ti that it hapned on any drzo last time it is going to happen. i can tell you in the history of skydiving, no sky diver and airplane that wasn't associated with the drop zone has collided. it never happened. as you can imagine, the sky is giant, so the likelihood of that happening is extremely rare.
10:34 am
so that's probably one of the last things i'm worried about as far as safety hazard goes. a man in russia is going to be receiving an award for his bravery, but he was very, very close because not even being around to accept the thing. this is the guy here, his name is arsene, a worker at this gas station. watch this security footage. he was working the evening shift when this bmw pulls in. watch this bmw. it comes in and makes a bad turn, runs into the big tank, knocks the valve off and now you're seeing all this gas everywhere. could be propane, could be natural gas. regardless, it is flammable. now arsene is working. there is the bmw, has no idea what it just did. watch what he does. he runs over to this thing, and is able to shut the valve off. he explained how he did it. he covered up his nose and mouth and went over there and shut the
10:35 am
valve off. you're thinking, that wasn't that big of an emergency, right? after he closes the valve, watch this video here. watch this. >> oh! >> you're kidding. >> it is like a sea of flames. there is a whole entire lot that goes up. it would have been way worse if he didn't shut the valve off. >> sure. >> he did it just in the nick of time. >> do they know what ignited it? >> your guess is as good as mine. but the whole thing goes up. he was standing right here next to this thing, just moments before. a risky move for sure. no reports of any injuries, but you can see some of the damage left behind from all of that fire. the guy is being awarded for his bravery. tanzania on a safari. a lion would be the king of the jungle, right? >> safe assumption. >> not today. apparently a lioness gets into
10:36 am
an elephant's territory. the elephant not happy about it. so the elephant gives chase to the lioness and we discover who really is the scaredy cat. look where the lioness ended up. >> size is a factor here. and elephant is huge and can definitely do some serious stomping down on a lion. so do you blame the lion? >> they're vacationing in tanzania. they're from australia. they said the female lioness got into the wrong territory and the elephant just went a little bonkers, like you don't belong here. the el foephant got the lion upe tree, it used its trunk to try to grab her. the lion was, like, i think she looks good on me. >> to see them in action like that. just about time for the weekend "rtm" ipad mini giveaway.
10:37 am
>> we'll tell you how to enter to win and give you the buzzword. >> you have to be 18 or older and a u.s. resident to enter. >> stick around for the "rtm" mini ipad giveaway coming up. common knowledge that off roading has inherent risks built into it. nothing like knowing the risks than a firsthand experience. this guy is riding his polaris razor through the park in oklahoma. out there with a couple of other side by side off road vehicles. up on the nice berm, and just must be a ton of found have all the wide open space, not worried about stop signs and lanes and all that stuff. able to tear it up out there. >> whoa! >> nice. now he's picked up a good head of steam here. >> didn't quite pull that off like the old duke boys did.
10:38 am
nose first, over, back over front and lands on his side. looks like he's okay. his buddies come up quickly, wasn't seriously injured. said he had injuries to his wrist. but nothing serious. he was out on the dunes later that evening. i don't know what kind of damage the razor sustained. a bit of an experience. now he knows that yes, yes in fact, there are definite risks to off-roading. two pranksters pick up a passenger to pull a fast one. >> do you want to go to jail again? >> oh, no. >> but see what drives the prankee to do this. and see how karma slaps a girl with a one-two punch. >> oh!
10:39 am
10:40 am
10:41 am
when is a prank taken too far? maybe in this case -- >> this is the pickup line. >> sam and foosy tube, they have come together for a little prank. they'll drive you around for 30 bucks. pretty good deal given a cab ride would be pretty expensive in los angeles. and they got a taker. >> compassion cab. >> foosy tube and his car picks a guy up, douglas. >> i appreciate your service, man. >> i appreciate you picking me up, man. >> seems like a nice guy, right. >> a prank. i already feel bad. >> if you don't mind, i have to
10:42 am
do a quick errand, this will take three minutes tops. >> we're about to bring sam into the picture. >> don't talk to him much, okay? >> he told the passenger, don't talk to this guy, who is about to get in the car. >> how did it go? >> it was good, smooth. >> everything, i collected the money, gave him the dropoff, it is fine. >> it is in the trunk. >> it is perfectly fine. >> who's this? >> i told him -- i told him not to talk to you. >> you're doing this again? are you crazy? >> the guy in the back is, like -- >> this is the last time i'm working with you again. >> i'm glad it is. do you want to go to jail again? sam, do you want to go to jail again? >> i do want to go to jail? no. that's why -- >> when pranks go too far. right about here. >> you're right. the guy in the back seat, watch what he does. >> it's a prank. dude, dude, dude, dude. it's a prank. >> the back seat tries to choke
10:43 am
him out and hold him back. >> these guys are so lucky that that's all doug tried to do. >> hopefully they took him where he needed to go too. >> and they did it for free. >> would you even want that ride anymore? >> no. i would be like let me out of this car. time for a good old-fashioned double dose of people falling down. both of these videos from juken video. first from the ski slope. dude on a treacherous, insane slope here. guy knows what he's doing. even the most skilled of skiers, most experienced people, they will have their little mishaps. here is what happened to this guy. falls down. but notice what you see there, what do you notice? he loves to ski. he lost a ski. and he keeps falling down and falling down and falling down and falling down. and his ski manages to just
10:44 am
stick into the side of a mountain like a toothpick. >> gravity will get you. >> now what's he got to do. >> climb back up there to get it. >> watch this. he's, like, not going to need those. throws the poles away. and now he's on his hands and knees getting back up to this -- >> this angle gives you an idea of how steep that slope was when he has to start digging in with his fingers to get back up. >> problem solved. >> way to go. >> now, this next one, probably seemed like a good idea at first. but it wasn't. like new year's eve. you got a bunch of people partying, this dude has his leg up on the counter, he's going to dance. this girl has an idea, you're so funny if i tripped him. >> oh! >> she just -- on the floor. that was ultimate face plant. >> she's got a bottle of champagne, looks like it wasn't open. it opened when she hit the
10:45 am
ground. the base of the bottle hits the ground, champagne shoots up in the air, all over everybody. >> i think that's poetic justice. she was trying to make somebody else fall. >> yeah. looks like she's okay. her one friend comes over and checks on her. heck of a way to ring in the new year. >> oh, my god! >> a ghostly image stalks an old hotel. >> if that's not enough to convince you -- >> see the wine bottles rattling shelves and nerves. want a new ipad mini? we have the buzzword for your chance to win next. flare-up, i start to scratch.na the more i scratch, the worse it gets. nenew w gogoldld b bonond relief cream, rerelilieveveses 5 5 s symympt. gogoldld b bonond d rereala. i've got 3-alarm heartburn... fifireremaman n chchilili ? rolaids gives s yoyou u rard relief of heartburn anand d neneututraraliliz% more acid than tums. atattataboboy!y! rorolalaidids,s, t thahatw you spell relief.

10:48 am
interaction with the people? >> that's kind of like the whole term behind the surf eer thing, going and being a part of the community, experience the cultural side of it. >> what we discovered was full on genocide in the region, between the military and the local people that live there. that's where the trip got dangerous. >> one of your executive producers is ryan phillippe. tell me how he became involved in the project. >> we reached out to ryan on the first trip and told him about what we were trying to do as far as bring awareness to genocide in the region and also about the adventure. after hearing about it, and seeing some of the footage, he was on board. he loves surfing and wanted to be part of the cause. we have what is called the isolated ambassador. it is a simple video that basically they say their name and if they're an isolated ambassador for peace. >> hi, my name is ryan phillippe, i'm an actor, director and i'm an isolated ambassador for peace. >> is there a hash tag for that? >> #isolated.

10:50 am
document it. he said the ghost has expensive taste because it is always, like, pricey red wine bottles that the thing goes after. and patrons have theories as to who this could be. a guy named old peter. >> old pete? >> an elderly man that worked at the bar in the early 1990s and passed away. they think this could be old peter coming back. >> there are skeptics. people had go to the bar say this could be from the motor of a fridge that is close by. >> it would take a lot of energy for this ghost to pull some poltergeist stuff like this. >> you're saying old peter isn't strong enough? >> old peter maybe really likes his drink and is trying to get a bottle open to taste it, but can't -- >> maybe they have a rodent problem. >> is this a hoax or is it actually a ghost? leave us your thoughts, facebook.com/rightthisminute. time for us to giveaway an ipad mini. >> got to be 18 years old, must be u.s. resident and have the buzzword to enter. >> enter on our facebook page. if you're using a mobile phone or tablet, go to the first post
