now at 6. on storm watch as intense rain prompts a flash flood warning for parts of the bay area. flash flood warnings in the weather center. conditions are changing by the minute. i'll show you what you can expect tonight and the coming days. a federal announcement marking a major victory for same sex couples. the decision that changes the way the government sees same

sex marriages. a flash flood warning in effect right now as heavy rain bears down on the north bay and tonight residents are being told to be on alert. good evening i'm heather homes. >> and i'm ken wayne. we begin with flash flood warning. it's in effect in parts of the county. you can see it from our radar images. it received quite a bit of rain. >> that's not the only problem. take a look at the damage when a tree took down a utility poll, wires and a fence. this wet weather is making for slick and dangerous driving conditions. our crews saw several accidents today. >> we have live coverage. >> we began with our meteorologist mark. >> that's right. in fact the heaviest rain has been focused in the northern

half of the bay area. over the past hour or so activity beginning to back off a bit and lift up to the north. the big story was earlier today in terms of rain fall to report. this just from 4:00 p.m. friday to this afternoon and look at the numbers really adding up in santa rosea, napa, fairfield, boulder creek. just over the hill look at san jose completely different story. only a few hundred of an inch in san jose. the big totals. look at mount over 9 inches of rain over the past 24 hours. lake sonoma over 4 nyes. in terms of flash flood warning in place still for parts of sonoma county. the small area closer to the western portions of the park.

that is in place until 7307 tonight but that could probably be reissued at least a chance with more rain in the forecast. here's a closer inspection a live storm tracker. you'll notice the rain fall. heaviest activity is towards portions of sonoma and lake counties. hidden valley lake. san francisco and oakland not as much coverage on to show you. the activity changes a bit for tonight into tomorrow. a lot more on that forecast. break down the timing of significant rainfall in the bay area weather patterns. a flash flood warning is still in effect there. katie? >> ken, this is honestly the lightest rain we've been in all day but it has been coming down. you can see how swollen the

creek is with the fresh rain. we are on the park way which is closed because of flooding on the roadway earlier today. almost everyone is dealing with bad driving conditions we spoke with a business owner who is dealing with water gushing into her building. we helped handyman collin fill sand bags because he was in a hurry. >> it's a mess. they have an inch of water in the back room. >> his friend jim on fourth street flooded over night. >> you can learn to do when your business is going under water. >> here's why. >> i think they did some hillside retaining stuff and in doing that it kind of puddle into river flow so it comes directly into here. >> rain run off blasts the building's foundation and draining system. >> i can figure out this isn't working. it's just a big bucket of

water. maybe they used to have a pump but it's just a big hole of water now. >> instead of pumping iron, tony is headed to home depot to purchase a new pump which is where we found them running low. not i am you know to a leaking roof but despite the flooding and poor driving conditions, people are keeping this storm in perspective. >> we need it. fill nose lakes so we can go boating. >> beyond boating, reservoirs still need storm after storm like this one to reach non drought levels. live from the park, katie,ktvu channel 2 news. a mudslide in northern sonoma county took out a road and house. a large chunk. it collapsed forcing closure of

the road. fire crews evacuated residents in that house. no one was hurt. now to the east bay where people are seeing their fair share of problems. live in the creek with the conditions out there right now. >> we've been driving all over the east bay monitoring rain conditions. we want to give you a look. things are moving pretty smoothly but they have been taking a beating responding to accidents fanned this am rain doesn't let up by monday they are going to be worried. most people are playing it safe on the highway slowing down olive salad slick roads across the east bay. >> roads are slick definitely. >> this morning an incident turned over this suv on interstate 880 in richmond. you might run into some i am patient drivers. >> someone is honking at me for

going slow. my little car has done some skidding so i have to be careful. >> you are seeing few customers. >> we just have to watch it and i guess have sand bags really. so far we do not. >> donna johnson may soon change her mind. she lives near where the morgan fire scorched 3,000 acres in september. she's waiting to see how the rain effects her home. >> if the water starts coming um we'll have to take a look. >> she's not concerned now but firefighters want people to stay out of the channels across the county. they know how dangerous the water can be when it drains to rising creeks and the storm is already at work. >> places where there is little creeks are raging today. >> now in just the last hour the area responded to 52

accidents so far today, well above their daily average sole asking drivers to slow down and turn olive salad headlights. live in the creek,k tsu channel 2 news. traffic has been slow and dangerous on bay area roads. here's a live look where you can see traffic is very slow. all those headlights are heading westbound towards the city. much worse in other parts of the area where a number of thank accidents and collisions all over the bay area. people flying out can expect delays stretching until mild night tonight. the airport tells us 60 flights were canceled because of the weather. there are 38 delays right now. as always, travelers are being advised to check with airlines. we are hearing from an awful a lot of people how this

we have new details on of a body on highway 101. the highway patrol says it was a pedestrian walking across the lane where he ran directly into the path of an on coming car after 11 last night. the driver stopped at the season. lanes were closed. the victim has not been i had and it's not clear why he was on the highway. concerned residents took part in the mayor's annual gang prevention supplement. the goal is to find ways to prevent activity and which neighborhoods need help. the problems start early when unhappy young teens get

wounded in the diamond neighborhood. now at 6 a land mark announcement recognizing same sex marriage in all 50 states. news of the announcement spread quickly among san francisco's gay community. many feel the decision is overdue. >> a rainy day in san francisco's district may have been brightened by news from the federal government. >> if they are going to recognize gay marriage at the federal level, it's about time and i'm happy to see it. >> u.s. attorney general eric holder announced the government will ensure the same sex marriages receive the same as opposite sex marriages in legal proceeding. >> it's a step forward in our nation. >> mark leno applauds the move. they cannot be able to testify in the court and will be is allowed the same visitation

that development over the past few days. chance of showers. sunday all this action gradually spreads to the south so the key to the forecast for you are tomorrow. here it is for tonight best chance of rain fall am will be in the north bay. over night this action begins to spread to the south at 8 and by late morning into the afternoon hours we could have increasing rain fall rates between 1 and 3 and finally more rain fall expected for the south bay. rain fall forecast continues to really add up in the north bay. 2 to 4-inches central of the bay. three quarters of an inch and santa cruz mountains could have amounts of two inches for sunday. kind of a warm system so 60s out there for mountain view and san jose. here is a look ahead. your five day forecast and there's that rain cloud for
