about, yet. >> >> a very wet weekend across the bay area, nearing an end, but not without one last downpour. tonight, aces some celebrate the much-needed rainfall, others are on alert. good evening, i'm ken wayne >> and i'm heather holmes. we begin our storm watch coverage with look at our "stormtracker" 2 radar where you can see an awful lot of green. north bay got the most. mill valley received six inches of rain. >> we were almost dry days ago, this, the russian river, prompting some advisories in the north bay, a flash flood watch that was supposed to expire two hours ago has been extended until 9:00 tonight.? the sierra winter storm warning is in effect until 4:00 tomorrow morning. >> >> kristina and katie have been out in the elements, we begin are our meteorologist, mark

tomio with mosh more on the flash flood watch. >> rainfall totals adding up over the sequence of days across northern california. especially north bay. as you can see, remember we were talking about the system back on wednesday and thursday and rainfall totals in fact since thursday. they are adding up. santa rosa, over 6 inches. richmond, same deal and out toward concorde and san francisco adding up as well over three inches of rainfall. as you mentioned, the flash flood watch extended for parts of the north bay, for marine, sonoma county, rainfall has been picking up over the past hour. we see there u thaw on the radar and there you can see the coverage for san francisco and right around san raphael and richmond. here is the wider perspective, around sonoma county, light to moderate. all of the action has been moving out to the east.

out toward brentwood, livermore, one cell outside of livermore around livermore producing rainfall rates a third of an inch an hour as we come in tighting. take a closer inspection of all of the activity in this region. difficult travel on 580, right now, there is the radar loop, once moving rapidly across the bay. about an hour ago toward the golden gate bridge in the east bay and inland valleys and off shore, upstream, the final stage of our system. basically over the past few days, we have had a garden hose of moisture being directed toward the bay area. it will finally be on the move. the key impact of our forecast as we het into monday. from mark, we go to katie where the flash flood watch has been extended. >> reporter: the flood watch

has been extended. what i'm about to show you is exciting from a bay area stand point. this is the russian river. it's raging. it's an important bram for bay area water supply. we have video to show you how much the storm has increased the river's level and hopefully area reservoirs. >> mother nature delivers. >> >> reporter: this is our spot and so are the people that live along the russian river. >> it looks really cool under the bridge. >> reporter: rejoicing over rushing water. >> thank god. it's a welcome site, obviously to see the water. >> reporter: she, like brad cher wood with the water agency has been watching the river levels closely. >> >> reporter: he marvels at the

difference this water has made. john fowler showed us the river levels, then. it was flowing about 40 cubic feet per second, a mere trickle, but by today, 9,000 cubic feet per second. >> the most important picture we have seen yet. >> i don't think this is enough rain, yet. >> and she is right. >> this is what we hope is the beginning of a phenomenal february. unfortunately, the drought is still on. >> reporter: brad says we are still way behind. need several more storms and at least six inches to even reach the brought levels from 1977. but, for now, this storm brings some relief. >> happy fish, happy ranchers, happy water guys, bring it on. >> >> reporter: now, as the storm continues to bring rain, the russian river is expected to crest tomorrow. still a long way from flood

stage, which is 23 feet. we are at about eight feet currently. the reason we are seeing flooding across the north bay, i'm told that the ground is the dryest it has been in 120 years. so, simply the rain cannot saturate into the ground quick enough. we are seeing a lot of runoff across roadways and the flood watch if effect for some of the smaller streams and creeks here in the north bay. that goes until 9:00 tonight. ktvu channel "2 news." from the rising creeks and rivers to flooded roads to power outages, this storm is making its mark. kristina is in berkeley with the problems she found there, kristina? >> reporter: this neighborhood we are in has seen their own power outage. electricity has been restored. there are others across the bay area that feed a little more help. >> a big flash of power outages hit the bay area.

ktvu cameras captured this transformer blowing out in san francisco. adding to the list of areas where pg & e crews worked to restore electricity. >> it's -- water may be one man's hobby, but it's another one's headache in mill valley. >> this is a business killer. >> reporter: the 2:00 am club usually see as big sunday crowd instead of empty bar stools and sandbags out front. >> i think it has been an issue for decades. it's something when the tide coincides with the heavy rains, we get the flooding. >> reporter: water is collecting outside of a handful of businesses intread of

draining to a creek that is full. >> infrastcture is what it is. what are we going to do? it's nature. >> >> reporter: these business owners want the city to fix the issue for good so they can get back to work without worrying about the rain. >> as this continues, it will be taking a chunk out of my business. >> reporter: they are crossing their fingers electricity won't go out. the business owners say they stand to lose thousands today and tomorrow, they say it will be a waiting game to determine whether or not they will open. as far as electricity goes, cruises will be working to restore any elicoricety that has been out in affected areas. >>. rain has made for a slow and dangerous weekended on bay area roads. are you looking live at interstate 80 in berkeley. cars have been moving slower than usual. traffic heading west is moving slowly. want to take to you a map in

our traffic center. the red and yellow lines indicate where traffic is stopped or moving slowly. >> >> travelers at san francisco airport faced delayed as wind andrin were on the roadways. two planes landing simultaneously have been reduced to one landing at a time. a spokesman said as of an hour ago 91 flights had been canceled and most delays in the 60-90 minute range. one frustrated passenger we spoke with said miscommunication prevented him from making his life. >> extremely frustrating. i got a call, there wasn't a human being that called me. i couldn't reach them, when i did, they gave me the wrong information. >> reporter: oakland and san jose reports were not reporting any weather-related delays. >> >> in the sierra rain became

san jose police say they arrested a driver on charges of driving under the influence and manslaughter after a fatal accident. it happened at 3:35 this morning on brandon lane. only one vehicle was involved. the red one on the back of the tow truck. three people were inside, all of them taken to the hospital where one person was declared dead. police have not released the identity of those involved. >> >> san jose police say an officer shot and wounded a man accused of stealing a car. a man was carrying a shotgun outside of a home and demanding that someone inside give him the keys to a vehicle. after a short vehicle chase,

officers confronted the man on white road. that's where an officer fired his weapon and hit the man at least one. police describe the man's wounds as serious, but not life- threatening. >> >> oakland police are investigating a homicide on a 69-year-old woman. police say she died 10:50 saturday morning at a home on 103rd avenue near plymouth street. authorities have not released the victim's name or the cause of her death. >> >> turning back to our storm watch coverage. this weekend's rain has exposed a new problem on the new bay bridge. turns out it leaks. the large storm is sending rain into places on the $6.4 billion bridge where it shouldn't be, >> reporter: it was tough to see the road on the bay bridge this morning. over the weekend a problem underneath the road became very

visible to cal-tran's engineers. >> we have found some leaks. we are still determining how many. >> reporter: since friday, engineers have been working to pinpoint the source of the leak. they appear to be along the barrier well. >> the concern is that water is getting into the rail and it is dripping down on the bolts that connect the barrier well to the road deck. >> it has been having prims all along. it's not new. >> >> reporter: cal-tran officials came under fire earlier this year for problems with bolts in the new eastern span. >> drivers this morning wonder what may be wrong with the $6 billion project. >> everything will have issues at first. >> gordon said core corrosion shouldn't be a problem, it has

operation. >> >> it's amazing how quickly things can change. we still have the drought, but we are talking about flooding as well. still some rain in the forecast. another day of impressive rain totals for parts of the bay area. south bay kind of missing out on this. san jose not reporting much at all over the past 24 hours. these are 24-hour totals, santa rosa. san francisco, over an inch, trace amounts mountainview. but out toward boulder creek. 1.6. as far as the flash flood watch that is in place, right now, extended up in the north bay until 9:00 this evening. an update on live "stormtracker." you can you see what is happening. the final phase of this system pushing across northern california and across the bay area. rainfall rates have increased. up in the north bay, nothing too significant. at least nothing too extreme. it looks like the steadier rain

outside 0 the east of santa rose could. toward again allen. around the coast, half moon bay, san francisco's ocean beach, around the bay itself. look at the yellows and reds towards the east. there you go for south san francisco. and downtown, sliding the maps to the south, more rainshowers to record. right around san jose, rain developing there. toward livermore, moderate and heavier cells around discovery bay. you can pick out toward brentwood and discovery bay picking up the most intense rainfall at last check. for tonight, we have this, periods of rain. there is a chance of a thunderstorm, unstable air moving in with this piece of energy that could trigger a thunderstorm. here's our live camera, all of the cloud cover out there and raindrops have been moving into the picture. tomorrow, morning clouds --

we are going to gradually clear out the clouds. you have been hearing a lot about rivers with all of the moisture setting up. northern california extended back toward hawaii. we are getting hawaii's moisture. this is pretty much the same storm, setting up camp off shore. tonight, periods of rain, tomorrow, as i mentioned, the morning chance with the sun cloud mix into the afternoon hours. here is our forecast models. rainshowers out there, once again, the possibility of a thunderstorm, but look what happens tomorrow morning. just some clouds out there, the chance of a sprinkle or light shower and then into the afternoon hours, skies becoming

u.s. lawmakers expressed frustration today that russia is with holding information that could help protect americans there. russian authorities describe security efforts as a ring of steel around sochi. southern california congressman adam shift said the u.s. is not getting the kind of cooperation he would like from the russians, but acknowledged there is a cultural barrier. >> i think as a matter of russian pride, they don't want to share that. as a matter of disclosing their methods to us. they don't want to share, but it means we are less effective in protecting our people. >> >> mike mccall thinks there is a high probability there will be an attack outside of the so- called ring of steel and said such terrorists would treat such an attack as a victory. >> you are talking about an area of the world where suicide bombers go off all of the time. the eyes of the world are on the olympics and the extremists know this.

freeway. one of the spots affected by the rain, drivers slowing down due to the slick roads, our meteorologist has been working overtime to keeps up-to-date on the conditions of the storm. >> he joins us live. what is it looking like? >> reporter: we are tracking the final piece of the storm moving across the area. the flash flood watch still extended. want to keep you posted on that for the north bay. until 9:00, as you can see right now, live "stormtracker," you get and idea of the progression over the past three hours, rainfall has been picking up especially around ocean beach, pushing across san francisco. here's a closer inspection of the radar. rain coverage at napa, pushing the maps to the south, you can see basically covering san francisco bay toward half moon bay. all of the yellows and reds crooned to a reds core respond

to heavier rainfall. oakland, south san francisco, south bay, clouds, rainshowers nearby. it looks like all of the action to the south, east, toward the santa cruz mountains, rainfall has been picking up. we'll continue to track these and also an update on the winter storm warn in the sierras. that is coming up in 15 minutes. >> >> we want to go back to ktvu's katie eunis. the river is really flowing, today. >> reporter: we have monitored the river all day. let me show you the current water levels. it was at this line a few hours ago and then has receded slightly, however, as the water continues to come from the storm and trickle into the

river, water levels are expected to rise and crest mid- day tomorrow. the russian river is important for the north bay water supply. people are watching it very closely. we showed you different levels when the water trickled a a mere 40 cubic feet per second. today, it is gushing at 9,000 cubic feet per second and continues to rise until it crests tomorrow. officials say the water in the liver u river will be enough to sustain farmers and ranchers for the next few weeks, however, we need storm after storm, water conservation efforts are still important. we are still in a drought. i'm told the ground was the dryest it has been in 120 years before we had this storm. that's why we are seeing flooding in the north bay. the russian river has been modified greatly, so it no longer is a flood concern. it needs to reach 23 feet

marriage is not recognized. >> the federal government will not use state views as a basis to object to someone in a same sex marriage invoking this right. >> reporter: the supreme court ruled that federal benefits could not denied to legally married same sex couples, but the court let the door open for the states to determine who is to be married. 33 states have laws defining marriage between one man and one woman. another example of the lawlessness of the obama administration, going well beyond what any court has required. and it starts to push down liberal ideal logical dilemmas. >> >> reporter: on capital hill,

reaction was mixed. >> the attorney general said we are going to apply the same rules. >> it appears to be another example of the obama administration imposing its will on the states. >> reporter: the attorney general announced the department of justice will recognize gay, less biian couples in bankruptcy cases and in the rules governing federal inmates. >> >> hackers have reportedly broken into the networks of three medical device companies. all of the companies with ties to the bay area. possibly to steal trade secrets as well as personal information. the companies are medtronics, based in santa rosa. boston scientific, and saint jude's medical. a source called these attacks very thorough and said there are fines the hackers attack from china.

back to our storm watch coverage. we want to give awe live look at the conditions outside of our studio in oakland. we have a light drizzle. >> visibility is poor. let's check in with mark. are we going to need the umbrella tomorrow? >> early morning hours, a few showers across the bay area tonight. rainfall, then tomorrow things will be heading to the south. in the short term, we have more rain and even a chance of an isolated thunderstorm. all of the focus has been up in the north bay. look at this amazing picture, the russian river. and at last check. river stage was 7.8. last friday, it was 1.3 feet.

downstream up to 18.6 feet, from five feet earlier in the week. significant rise on the rivers, below flood stage. as far as the north bay, the flash flood watch posted until 9:00, all of the areas shaded from green, at least the possibility of more rain in the forecast for tonight. can you see in the short term, rain coverage moving across the bay area, a closer look at all of that action basically up to the north bay. it looks like a little break for parts of santa rosa. moving the maps to the south. waves of moisture pushing across the southern half of the region t has been relatively quiet in terms of accumulations. the whole event, it looks like heavier cells toward the san mateo bridge. all of the activity, yellows

and reds, still showing you more action. lingering rainshowers to the west of the bridge. there, you can pick out more coverage for the santa cruz mountains all and all of the areas approaching mountainview, as well. we have some activity toward woodside. as far as the rainfall numbers. san a rosa over nine inches of rain. san francisco 5.55 and oakland over four inches. this is for the season. this is since last july. these numbers still very low, but a nice improvement over the next three to five days across the bay area. for tonight, periods of rain, a chance of a thunderstorm out there. here is our live camera looking out toward a cloudy and wet basically over oakland, right now, with the rainshowers paying us a visit moving rapidly across the region. tomorrow, morning clouds, skies becoming partly cloudy. extended high clouds in the

distractions of the beach more interesting than his eventual finish eight strokes back. >> jimmy walker started the day with a six stroke lead, others took their shots. jordan speed finishes his round of 67, the leader in the clubhouse. dustin johnson started nine strokes back, but quickly made his move. now, a tough birdie putt on the 9th. this one goes, johnson would shoot a 66 and posted a 10 under par total for the tournament. so did jim renner. he made the putt and finished with a 67. he and johnson waited and jimmy walker closed the deal. walker breezing for his first nine holes. his approach on the 8th sets up a birdie. at this point, he was 14 under
