in the sierra nevada, again, if you are heading up there, weather advisory until 8:00, here's sal. steve, good morning, we are looking at a commute that's just moderate, we have some slow traffic now to report at the bay bridge toll plaza. it is backed up beyond the 880 overcrossing, we're looking at a ten minutetobacco on the bridge. we're looking at 20, almost 30 minutes now into san francisco, and people are up and out early this morning. little bit wet, not raining right now at the toll plaza. this is a look at the bridge, same thing goes, the roads are wet, the weather will be moving through as you just heard, but you'll still see puddles here and there, nothing major though, and you can see traffic looks good. the peninsula traffic is looking good. 6:30, let's go back to the desk. all right, back to our developing news now, san jose police have taken a man into custody after surrounding a house, we are out there live

this morning, this is vernice avenue in san jose. the man was holed up there for hours. it started last night at 6:00 after an anonymous calling told police that a wanted man was in the house. police were able to make contact with the man, and he said he was stuck. now within the last hour, officers entered the house and found the man was stuck in the crawl space underneath the house. they did take him into custody. the officers still out there on the scene, talking about what happened and what's going on right now. it's not clear what the man was wanted for at this point, but our reporter is on the scene as well, she'll have an update at 6:30. happening now, still flag problem in the san mateo county hills. this could be tied to the big weekend storm. alex savage is joining us live. big tree crashed down live on skyline boulevard. >> reporter: highway 84 will be blocked for several more hours throughout the morning here in

the woodside area after a tree, a large tree actually came down here and took down some power license early this morning, pge has cut the power to those lines we're told so the power is not running through them anymore. but now crews need safely remove this tree somehow. let me show you the scene from earlier today, it's pretty dark out here right now. this tree is blocking highway 84 near skyline boulevard, and this is about a quarter mile or so from alice's restaurant, if you're familiar with this area. sheriff's department got this cull ebbed 3:30 this morning. the ground here in this area is heavily saturated. and that seems to be why this tree just gave way this morning. there were other trees that came down in the weekend's storm. pge is out here, they're surveying the damage in the area, at this point, we haven't been given any number on how many people lost power because of the fact that the power

lines were taken out by the tree, but we have a call into pge this morning to get an estimate on the number of people without power. but we are told again, it'll be several hours, possibly three hours before highway 84 will be l reopen in that area. we're live in san mateo county, alex savage, ktvu news. big storm ended, at least for now, but there are a lot of problems to deal with this morning. we are in the county where until late last night, there was of a flash flood warning, tara. >> reporter: we're here along the creek where the water is gushing. mill valley got about a four of rain with nearly 20-inches. we're here off miller avenue in the downtown area, and just down the street, unslain closed in front of the high school because of street flooding. chp wants to remind you to slow down on the slick roads. yesterday, a 60-foot landslide

collapse collapsed from the road above and crashed into a newly built study. firefighters were keeping it from moving more. >> it's scary, same time it's more water in the rose voice >> we want the rain, yeah, just not the flooding. >> reporter: the 2:00 a.m. club, the owners brought out sandbags to help scave off the high waters that comes every year when the rain and tide push storm drains past their limit. meanwhile, it may have contributed to a deadly car crash yesterday morning. jeep plunged 50 feet down an embankment, driver was found dead by rescue crews. it is drive now and the -- now and the flash flood warning has been called off. we're live in mill valley, ktvu, channel 2 news. in the men time, two men were rescue after being stranded in the county. they took out a small boat into the dangerous waters, but then, they couldn't get out. jogger heard them screaming for

help. firefighterrings used ropes and life jackets to get them. neither man was hurt. sandbags are piled up in truckee as people pace themselves for possible flooding. the river may overflow and flood the streets. some business owners say they're not worried, at least not yet. one woman says she's lived in truckee for 15 years and never seen a flood. power back on this morning, that's after yesterday's storm knocked out the lights to more than 5,000 customers. one of our photographers thought video yesterday morning watch transformer shorting out in the rain. that happened in san francisco at fulton near golden gate park. this morning, pge is reporting two minor outages in the bay area. we're continuing to monitor the conditions, whenever you're not by a television, get weather

updates on our weather app on ktvu.com and follow us on facebook and twitter. all right pam, time now 6:08, the reason rain expose another potentially big problem with a span of the bay bridge. the bridge is leaking. caltrans says rain water is dripping into the steel structure on the suspension stretch of the span which is supposed to be water tight. engineers are trying to pinpoint source of the leaks which are raising concerns of corrosion. >> the concern is that water is getting into the rail and it's kind of then dripping down some of the bolts that connect the barrier rail to the road. >> the engineers say they are confident they can fix that problem. caltrans says the plans preparis the holding a 10:00 news conference this morning. heyward police say the victim of a home invasion robbery killed one intruder and wounded another. it happened yesterday evening at a home on western boulevard.

police say a man told them that he shot a man and woman who had invaded his home. officers found the man's body inside the home, but say the woman escaped. and is believed to have sought treatment for several gunshot wounds at eden valley hospital. it's not clear if the intruder's had guns. last week's death of a 78- year-old pedestrian now has one traffic safety group calling for drastic change on san francisco's sunset boulevard. police have already identified the street in the sunset district as one of the most dangerous in the city. critics say there are very few stop signs and traffic lights on the busy six-lane road. now one safety group is proposing eliminating the third lane to discouragedded so- called freeway mental. it's possible your next flight might land at the wrong airport. last month, this south airlines flight was supposed to land at branson international airport missouri. instead, it landed at a smaller airport, seven miles away.

breach. the names of all the affect companies, that hasn't been released yet. and we don't know how many shoppers have been effected. hackers have also penetrated data bases of three big medical device makers. that's according to san francisco chronical. the attackers struck medtronic, st. jude medical with manufacturing plants and boston scientific, they have offices in freemont, san jose, and santa clara. it's not clear what they wanted or what they got away with. the u.s. embassy in guyana issues a warning about a threat information on the flights taking off today from that south american county heading here to the u.s. now americans in guyana are being advised not to fly on caribbean airlines and make other travel plans until at least wednesday. u.s. lawmakers expresses frustration today that russia

ten minutes into the san francisco, half hour drive time into the city. we're also looking now at interstate 880, it's getting busier here in oakland as you pass the coliseum, 6:1, let's go to steve. things are winding down, more cloudy conditions or fog being reported. storm track heading north, not before it set up shop in the north bay, not so much elsewhere. further south though, things were actually more cloudy and windy than rainy. february is off to a good start here, and there's signs that maybe more rain in the old seven, 15 day outlook, we're done with this pattern, kentfield 11 and three quarters, napa had seven and three quarters. for some, it was okay, for others it was just crazy.

some of the over rain totals -- for some it was good, the rain total which has been abysmal getting better, but santa rosa over nine inches of rain. san francisco 40%. oakland airport, 33%, and san jose 28%. we could use more, but at least we made a dent here. 50s on the temps, very mild. and all that will moisture in the air, not much of a breeze yet, might be some of the wet. gives us that fog up in the sierra, more rain than snow, there was an advisory out until 8:00 this morning, the storm tracker that rain lines heading north, maybe the lake county, lake tuesday into wednesday. 50s for some, 30s up in the

welcome back to the morning news whereby 6:24 is the time, company is recalling about 8.7 million pounds of meat. it is the second recall for rancho feeding corporation in less than a month. the u.s. department of agriculture food safety inspection service says the meat may have been processed from diseased and unsound animals. the recall applies to meat produced between january 2013 and january 2014. so far no reported of cases of people getting sick. another new study shows nearly three out of four young people in the u.s. consume some form of caffeine. the report released by the government analysis of national health surveys claims most of that caffeine is from soda, coffee, and tea. researchers say the rate of consumption didn't budge much

over the ten year study, but it is the first to study recent national trends in caffeine used among children and young adults. speaking of caffeine, 6:25, people are lining up outside of a new coffee house in los angeles. looks like a regular starbucks until you closely and see it's called dumb starbucks. the coffee is free. although it's really not that good. and no one seems to know who's really behind it. some of the customers have their own ideas about that. >> that's the story they're tell people, really, it's a reality show. and i think there's a camera in that expresso machine. >> that's an idea. they just answered a help wanted ad. and there's a flier that says it's a real coffee house, but its calling itself parody art to get around trademark laws. starbucks says this is not one of their stores, they are investigating the matter. today a state senator will introduce legislation that

alex savage joins us live from the valley where big tree has come down on skyline boulevard. >> highway 84 will be blocked in both directions for the next couple of hours in the woodside area, that is because of this large tree that came crashing down early this morning, it fell from here on the right side of the road, that's where it uprooted, and you can see probably it took down some of these power lines here. that run alongside the road and the tree fell, blocking both lanes of the road as well. pge has cut power no those lines, but now crews need to figure out the best way to safely remove this tree. the mystery blocking highway 84 near skyline boulevard. and this is about a quarter mile or so from alex's restaurant. the sheriff's department got this call about the downed tree at about 3:30 this morning, of course this weekend, several days of drenching rain left the ground and this area saturated, that's probably this tree just gave way. the sheriff's department says

there were several other trees that fell throughout the weekend. now pge crews are surveying the dak, again, it'll take several more hours, at least two more hours to get highway 84 reopened in the area. it's a fairly well-traveled thorough faye for these people. live in san mateo county, channel 2 news. 6:34 this morning, bay area crews are busy cleaning up after that big storm. a lot of crews worked all night removing mud, rocks, and other debris from the road, our news crew saw one oakland crew working in a downpour at a winding stretch of fish ranch road. >> cold. wet. dark. so yeah, hopefully they'll send us more people out here. >> well, they're dedicated. those city workers are closely watching the soaked hillsides which as you know, often collapse after a lot of heavy rain. the weekend storm is

filling up the russian river which is an important gauge to the north bay's water my -- supply. it was expected to crest later today as water makes its way down from the hills. yesterday, it was gushing at 9,000 cubic feet per second. the samoa in a agency says the water in the river will be enough to sustain formers and ranchers for the next few months, but says trs not enough end to the water conservation efforts. now less than two weeks ago, this is what the russian river looked like. it was so low you could walk daughters or sons. at that time, it was at the lowest level for january in more than 50 years. well the north bay was the hardest hit by the weekend storms, more than a foot of rain was reported during the four-day downpour some pots. the wet weather caused flooding, landslides, and some traffic accidents. coming up at 6:45, live all right from mill valley with more on the damage caused.

time now 6:35, also developing news from san jose, police finally is captured a wanted man after spending almost 11 hours trying to get him to surrender. we are joined leif from san jose, how did the officers finally capture him? >> reporter: dave, the man claimed that he was trapped in the crawl space, understood beneath the house. you could see officers are still here, they're just packing up right now. now this man, most likely face charges of evade police, he's, transported to the jail and being bock booked. police evacuated eight to ten homes near story and white roads as a i have isty measures. officers came after an anonymous caller said a wanted man is staying at a home there. police confirmed a felony warrant and evacuated two people from the house. police say the man was known to carry weapons and has a violent past.

the officers negotiated and after nearly 11 and a half hours, he finally gave up. >> they did find him in the crawl space. whether he was stuck or not, we don't know. but they convinced i want to come out as of about five minutes ago, he was taken into custody. >> reporter: police stay took so long because it was unknown if he had weapons on him. police tell the house was his relative's home. at this point, everyone is safe. crime tape should be taken down soon and people evacuated can return to their homes. five san jose we can ktvu channel 2 news. also this morning, heyward police are trying to piece together the circumstancing that led up to an apparent home invasion robbery that killed one intruder. now brian flores is in heyward this morning with what we know so far, brian. >> reporter: good morning, lots of unanswered questions in the this apparent home invasion rob lay it happened yesterday. according to police, someone tried to rob a home on the

21,000 block of western but also reporting that the victim apparently shot and kilted one of those intruders. i want to go to video yesterday from the scene. again happened shortly after 5:30. it was raining during that time as well. police say after they received a car of this robbery, when they arrived, they found one man dead inside nap man according to police was one of the suspects, and he had been shot to death. the victim, apparently told police that other robbers had fled the scene. now about 20 minutes after that, police got another call of somebody dropping off woman at a nearby hospital. also suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. it's believed according to police that this woman was part of the robbery, it is unclear this morning her condition. it's also unclear whether the the victim was targeted in this case, how the victim was doing, whether the robbers were able to get away with anything, or even if the suspects knew the victim. we do have calls into heyward police this morning to hopefully have some of those questions answered this morning. we're reporting live here in
