some people made the most of the wet weather. they tried to skim board across the court. you can see some had more success than others but they all said it was a lot of fun. all the rain led to another problem for the eastern span of the bay bridge. leaks. and caltrans is responding. the rainy weather exposed the leaks. the concern is the water is dripping into what is supposed to be a water tight area and that could cause corrosion and lead to a shorter life span for the bridge. ktvu's tom vacar went inside the bridge with engineers today. how they plan to fix the problem tonight at 6:00 p.m. an inmate made it break for it but where it started made it trickier to catch him. ktvu's claudine wong is live. you spoke to witnesses and they

we received this picture today showing the location of a car that tumbled down a cliff over the weekend. it came to a stop right there on the rocks by the water at a beach. there were two people inside who were pulled out with the jaws of life on saturday night while rescuers dealt with the rain, surf and limited visibility. both were transferred to the hospital with minor to moterate injuries moderate injuries. three armed men robbed them about 2:45 p.m. today. the robbers got away with wallets, cash and cell phones. oakland has seen several hold ups in the past months. helped arrived for people who can't tuque someone about -- talk to someone about their

bridge. i am julie haener is here now for what we are working on for 6:00 p.m. >> a live look at the new bay bridge may be deceiving. it looks beautiful but up close we are seeing the damage caused by three straight days of rain. ktvu's tom vacar is on treasure island with more on how engineers are dealing with the crucial leak. >> reporter: here is what is important, you had to go through a turning obstacle course of steel to show you the pictures you are about to see. >> reporter: the water still remains from the storm but some water ended up inside the steel road decks held up by the cable. what is not clear -- >> they don't know where it is coming in. how quick it will take to resolve. >> reporter: we had to climb up there, to the top of the inside of the roadway of the bridge. >> very slow but it is something we are taking seriously.

>> reporter: he is caltrans bridge engineer. >> we are noticing the bolts, water coming down. >> reporter: you could barely see signs of leak. >> we see no signs of corrosion. we are taking this issue seriously. it takes time for corrosion to manifest. >> reporter: engineers say any water not properly addressed spells corrosion and rust trouble. >> this could have a -- an impact within 10 years or so. depending on the severity. there is a safety factor that is build into the bridge. with every bit of corrosion it eats into the safety factor. >> what do users say? >> i wouldn't say it will fall down. i would wait and see what the methods are they could use
