also this morning we are looking at interstate 880 the traffic here is not all that bad. the traffic looks good past the coliseum. the roads are dry so you will not see a lot of that slow traffic we've had in the last few days. we have breaking news in san francisco where a stretch remains closed due to another deadly pedestrian crash. tara moriarty is joining us from the scene where an investigation is now under way. tara. >> reporter: that is right. between pacific and jackson is closed in the southbound direction. if you take a look behind me here you can see they have it roped off and the accident investigators are here on scene trying to figure out exactly what happened. this could remain closed until 5:30. this is the fourth deadly crash involving a pedestrian since the new year. police say at 1:00 this morning the driver of a silver compact hit a man. we are not sure if he was in

the crosswalk. but you can see the force of the impact it must have been pretty great because the windshield has heavy damage. it is possible that the driver carried the victim on his hood for a block before stopping. he did stop and he is being interviewed at northern station. about a month ago a 38-year-old ago was truck and killed by a driver after he ran into the street crossing several lanes of traffic following an argument. then last week an elderly man was struck and killed on sunset boulevard by an elderly woman. the next morning another person killed on vanness. last year there was a record of 21 pedestrian-car crashes. live from san francisco i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. police in san jose are investigates the city's sixth homicide of the year.

that happened just before 1:30 this morning at santa clara and first street. when police arrived they found a man with at least one stab wound. he was rushed to the hospital. he did not survive. police believe the stabbing happened after a fight at a nearby bar. >> the preliminary information we have is the argument did start in the club and pilled out on to the street. >> police have made one arrest. ktvu channel 2 reporter janine de la vega is headed to the scene. she will have a live report coming up in our next half hour. time is 4:33. a state-wide amber alert remains in investigation after police investigate a possible carjacking but big questions surround a shoplifter, a man, and a 13-year-old girl. it was taken just moments before he left a safeway store near highway 13. witnesses say the man had a knife when he jumped into a

parked vehicle and took off with a man and teenager inside. >> we also have information reported to us by witnesses that the occupants of that vehicle did not know the suspect. >> so far no missing person report has been filed by family or friends of the two possible victims but investigators are stale treating this -- are still treating this case as a strange abduction. he is about 5'7" tall and weighs about 165 pounds and last seen wearing a green shirt with a blue jacket. they could also be in the car with this california license plate. police say the plate is likely mounted on ascidian. the families of nine boys are filing lawsuits against a bay area elementary schoolteacher. he physically, emotion mallly, and sexually abused them.

martin is facing 125 felony mull station charges. now the families are also suing the mt. diablo school district and a dozen current and former district employees. the boys who are not being identified attended wood time school. the lawsuits accused district workers of failing to report earlier warnings of abuse by the teacher. there is new developments on the disappearance of a morgan hill teenager. a grand jury has indicted torres in the murder of sierra lamar. her body has never been found but her dna was found in torres' car. >> any kind of progress would be welcomed. we have been waiting for two years now. it's been frustrating for the

family. >> prosecutors say the indictment eliminates the need for a preliminary hearing so the case will proceed to trial. time is 4:35. at least two dozen san francisco firefighters are being subpoenaed to testify before a criminal grand jury. this video is from june 29th. it shows an allegedly drunk firefighter hitting a motorcyclist with his truck and then leaving the scene. according to the san francisco chronicle, the grand jury is investigating whether other firefighters tried to help cover up what happened. the firefighter involved registered a blood alcohol level of .13% after the accident. motorcyclist suffered broken bones and a puncture lung. san francisco police are searching for two suspects from an overnight chase that ended in south san francisco. it began around 10:00 last night when police spotted a silver suv at is is plue avenue and hoff street. the driver of the suv led police on a chase down highway

101 that ended when the suv crashed into another car near highway 380. police took the driver into custody and are searching for two passengers who ran from police. police say they found multiple guns in the suv. tonight the public gets a chance to weigh in on proposed to increases on the golden gate bridge. there are four options under consideration. one raises the to by a dollar followed by a series of increases. all the proposals raise the to to about $6.50 to $8 by 2018. graco is recalling more than 3.7 million children's car seats. toddlers can be trapped in the seat by buckles that may not unlatch the way they are supposed to. the recall covers 11 ford facing models made between 2009 and last year. graco says food or drinks can make the red button on the harness buckle difficult to

use. happening today attorney general kamala harris is coming to san francisco to announce she is running for a second term. harris is scheduled to take that step at san francisco department of elections and city hall at 11:00 this morning. she is the first woman to be elected attorney general in california and so far faces no opposition. harris took office in 2010 after serving two terms at san francisco district attorney. thousands of same sex couples are celebrating a historic an verse riff. it has been ten years since marriage licenses were handed out. 4,000 couples were married before the passage of prop 8. a special ceremony will be held at san francisco city hall tonight at 5:00 to mark the milestone. san francisco mayor ed lee and gavin newsom are scheduled to speak. family members, friends, and classmates of cal football player ted agu will gather tonight for a candle light

vigil. he died last week during a team work out outside cal's memorial stadium. the popular athlete had been selected to the second team all pac 12 just last fall. his fra fernty brothers are organizing this week's vigil. candles and special wristbands will be available to the first 1,000 people. the south is bracing for an ice storm. at least five deaths have been blamed on the weather including a crash in texas where icy conditions caused an ambulance driver to lose control. >> there is no way you can deal with ice. i don't care what yankees say you can't drive until ice.

souvenir shopping. pop up stores carry all of the olympic merchandise. hats along the most popular items. there are versions that look like the three olympic mascots. there are also traditional russian fur hats and stocking caps but the most popular item of all are the mitt tapes that include the flags of each participating countries. the gold coin it weighs more than $6.5 pounds. something you won't see much of in sochi is the apple logo. olympic workers are swooping in on reporters using apple laptop. they are putting tape over the famous symbol of the apple. that is because the south korean company bought the rights to be the official electronics sponsor. version galactic says this is the year it offers special space flights. it has already sold 680 tickets

the east coast. a lot of cloud cover. the rain line is up to the north. the recent rain usually for those of you that remember 60s and 70s. we would get rain and then a couple weeks of dry weather and that valley fog would set up shop and it wouldn't budge for a couple weeks. we don't see that anymore. so patchy fog developing. but with the higher clouds that will really prevent it. you need clear skies and calm conditions. you almost need some patchy fog. a lot of clouds continue top stream over. mostly cloudy day for the north bay. it looks pretty weak but we will continue this into wednesday. maybe thursday morning as well. but i think that is about the southern extent on it. 40s on the temps or very low 50s. oakland at 51 degrees. temperatures near average this time of year. with the cloud cover streaming into the north it might be a little cooler there. speaking of cooler it continues to be brutally cold. the big news continues to be the system that came out of texas and oklahoma and now move into the deep south sure looks

like rain turning to freezing rain and snow. this will head to the northeast tonight and tomorrow night. another whopper of the system there. ukiah 43. tahoe 43. cloud cover responsible for a lot of that. heavy duty rain up near crescent city. i've seen projections for the next five days for a foot of rain there. it has plenty of moisture with it. if we can get this to sag south a little bit. it doesn't look like it will come this far south until maybe sunday. next week is looking very interesting and promising for a cold rain. we'll see next tuesday and wednesday. fog, sun, clouds. clouds to the north. some sun to the south. and a little mix of fog in there. 50s and 60s. kind of a near average for this time of year. maybe a little above toward morgan hill. mostly cloudy thursday. a little light rain up north. friday looks good to warm. i might be a little heavy on that high. it will be in the upper 60s.

the board voted yesterday to ask for a 10% reduction in water starting immediately. the crickets manager of watt -- the districts manager of water operation says the storm has helped but it will take five more big storms to make sure reservoirs are in good shape come september. in washington, d.c. they introduced a drought relief bill to counter ones passed. it will grant $300 million in emergency aid and require federal agencies to do all they can to boost water supplies. the house bill focuses on lifting environmental restrictions to allow more water to be pumped from the delta. president obama is scheduled to visit fresno an friday to discuss federal efforts to respond to the drought. the ground is drying out the trees and branches are still dropping around the bay area creating a safety hazard. a massive branch from this 40- foot tree fell yesterday morning. city workers say they can't keep up with calls for service and budget cuts have forced the

department to make stafng cuts. they say there are just five arborists available in san francisco to monitor 105,000 trees on the sidewalks alone. >> so it means we are not able to do proactive pruning hardly at all. we are basically responding to requests and because of that trees are not getting inspected as regularly. >> in 2011 the city began transferring responsibility for maintaining some of the trees to homeowners. the hope now is to put a parcel tax proposal before voters this year and put city workers back in charge of all street trees. continuing coverage of a channel 2 investigation that is prompting one state assemblyman to try to change california law. our investigation exposed a loophole allowing drivers to dodge tolls using a new car dealer plaquer. that cost california millions of dollars in uncollected tolls. now they plan to pass a bill to
