fire on busy streets in front of a popular shopping mall. ktvu's alex savidge will tell us what police are saying about the investigation coming up in a live report. good morning. i'm tori campbell. >> good morning. >> good morning. >> i'm dave clark. let's talk about weather and traffic. steve, a holiday forecast. how does it look? >> pretty good for us. there is a few high clouds up there. maybe some patchy fog. it's colder. 37 santa rosa. it was 39 half moon bay. 40 concord. not far away a lot of upper 30s around san jose and also parts of the east bay including livermore. a little bit of rain for those of you watching out from eureka north. that's about all the system will do is give light rain farther to the north. for us, it will be mostly sunny. one more weak system late tuesday into early wednesday. after that, things look like they will go back to big-time dry and sunny and warmer weather. today, mostly sunny, colder morning lows. patch or two of fog. a few high clouds. a lot of 60s.

normal highs this time of year. about 60, 64 in most locations will fall close to that there might be warmer locations in morgan hill and gilroy. here's sal. we're looking at the commute. one of the things we've noticed obviously it's loiter. there are -- lighter. there are a lot of people out there. it's not something that is gonna show you down. there are no major problems here as you drive at the bay bridge toll plaza. westbound as you drive, you can see there's very light delay about ten minutes between the toll plaza and san francisco. some of these drive times are amazing. lone tree way to loveridge, three minutes, speeds 66. 680 to highway 24, a five- minute drive time don't get used to that. the traffic is light. back to the desk. thank you, sal. this morning, san francisco police are searching for the gunman responsible for a shooting right in the heart of the city's shopping district. alex savidge is live outside of

the westfield shopping center with market police with information police want every shopper to know. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. police want people to know this was not a random shooting. this 19-year-old shot several tilts. after being hit, he stumbled down the stairs that lead to the powell street b.a.r.t. station. the wounded teen was at the bottom of the stairs. the station had to be temporarily shut down for a half-hour. the shooting was 7 -- was after 7:00 last night here on market street. the sidewalk was blocked off by san francisco police so they could gather evidence. many people ducked inside the westfield shopping center trying to escape the gunfire. one man we talked with this morning said he heard the shooting. he saw quite a few people running to get away. he says it's fortunate no innocent bystanders were hit. >> very fortunate here. very fortunate. you know, it's kind of inconvenient, you know, for some gunshots to go off in this

type of area. surprising for something to go on like this down here especially with tourists and things like that. >> reporter: the teenaged victim in this case underwent surgery last night. police say he's still alive after being seriously wounded. police believe this was a target the shooting although they have not said what may have prompted the gunman to open fire. police are going through surveillance video from this area. there are quite a few cameras here in the busy downtown district here. although, so far, none of the video that police have looked at gives a clear look at the shooter they are still searching for. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, alex. 7:04. last night's shooting outside of the westfield shopper center forced the closure of the powell street station for the second night in a row. on saturday, a muni train ran over and killed a homeless man who police say was trying to retrieve his backpack from the tracks.

the deadly accident caused delays for some riders heading to the new year parade. a plane out of ethiopia was hijacked by the copilot and diverted to switzerland. the pim was bound for rome -- the pilot was bound for rome. but the pilot took over the plane while the pilot was in the bathroom. once the plane landed in switzerland, the copilot asked for asylum. he said he was in danger in ethiopia. all 202 passengers and crew members are safe. 7:05. another protest is planned today over the shooting death of a bare teen by a sonoma county sheriff's deputy. a group is demanding the sonoma county district attorney and the santa rosa police department release the findings of their investigation into the shooting death of andy lopez. the 13-year-old was shot while carrying a replica gun that deputy gehaus said looked like

a real rifle. the march is at 1:30 this afternoon at the old courthouse. the district attorney said she's not completed her investigation. some residents in the san pablo hills say the city has done nothing to fix problems caused by a landslide there three years ago. brian flores joining us live there this morning. and brian, you are talking -- you are hearing from both sides on this controversial issue. >> reporter: i am, dave. we're live in the san pablo hills. some residents say they are leaving in fear and frustration because they don't know when the next landslide will be. many of the residents still dealing with the aftermath of the landslide three years ago. huge tarp and sandbag cover the area that was affected. many residents say the city has done nothing to shore up the landing to shore up their names. we were there three years ago when the heavy rains and what residents say was a faulty drainage system caused homes to be damaged. four homes are on widen street.

three on hillcrest road. some residents tell the contra costa times that they blame the city for not fixing the drainage system. to this day, it remains a threat that more landslides could happen. some residents have sued the city to try to get this fixed. one resident says there's a lot of fienter pointing on -- finger-pointing going on. >> they had to remove a lot of soil. they have covered it with plastic so it probably won't occur again but there's still expenses involved. >> reporter: now, the city is not commenting, also telling the paper that it can't because of the current litigation against the city by the residents. however, back when the landslides happened that geo tech nal cal expert determined no city work contributed to the landslide. in the meantime, there are some temperature fixes. if we take it back out here live, concluding this this system coming from the hill, apparently this system dps back

to the 1950s. we've reached out to the law firm that's representing the city. we've not heard back from them but we hope to later on this morning. brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:08. martinez police are asking anyone with information about a possible murder to come forward. 53-year-old christie lee southwitch was arrested. police say they were investigating a suspicious death at a home and that led him to her. she was booked on murder charges. police have not released any information about the victim. a salinas man who works at a golf club owned by clint eastwood has been arrested on suspicion of embezzling thousands of dollars. 48-year-old nick bentley morgan was arrested saturday afternoon. he had been working as the manager at the takama golf club. authorities say he's accused stealing more than $43,000.

so far there's been no comment from the golf club. the new all-electronic toll system is bringing in millions of dollars in unpaid fips. that's according to -- fines. that's according to the chronicle. while they missed out on $1.7 million in revenue, it made $2.9 million in fines. drivers who don't have fastrack have a month to pay their fine before they were hit with a $25 penalty. after that, the fine goes up to $70. 7:09. there's a report apple looked around silicon valley when it recently considered expanding its product line. the chief has spent the last few months looking for deals. the paper says that includes a meeting with tesla's founder elon musk. tesla and apple are not answering questions about the

white man shot down an african- american teenager but was not convicted of first-degree murder. on saturday, a jury convicted michael dunn of three counts of second-degree attempted murder. but the jury deadlocked on the charge of first-degree murder. after an argument over loud music, dunn opened fire in an suv filled with teenager and killed 17-year-old jordan davis. >> justice! >> these protesters demonstrated in oakland last night saying the situation is too similar to the shooting for trayvon martin. in that case, george zimmerman was cleared of murder charges, partly because of florida's controversial stand-your-ground law. it is 7:14. a napa woman has collected 3500

signatures in her petition drive to create a new three strikes law. it comes in response to last month's tragic killing of 3- year-old kayleigh slusher. the organizer is pushing for a new law requiring that authorities intervene if police are called to a home more than three times to investigate allegations of child abuse. court records show police made nine trips in the past nine months to that apartment kayleigh shared with her mother and her mother's perfect. rodney eric son is retiring in june and will be replaced. the trustees have not identified the person they plan to introduce today as the new president. 7:15. a mine rescue in south africa, well, it's taken a surprising

turn. some of those trapped miners, they are now in police custody. yesterday, emergency crews in johannesburg came to the rescue of 11 miners trapped by debris in an abandoned mineshaft. well, police arrested them a short time later saying they were involved in their legal mining operations. they say other miners working illegally at that site, they refused to come out of the shaft because they feared they will be arrested. the ground has been shaking in oklahoma. the us geological survey says there have been four earthquakes near oklahoma city including one that was a 3.8. that's after a swarm that started on friday. now, we might consider those kind of small but people in oklahoma say the whole idea of earthquakes is pretty unnerving. >> if i'm experiencing eight of these in one day, then when does it, like, erupt and become something that's absolutely hoernl that takes my --

very well on 880 there are no major problems as you drive past the coliseum. the morning commute is looking good on westbound bay bridge coming up to the toll plaza. it's about a ten-minute drive into san francisco. maybe less than that. and no major problems. if you are on 580 westbound, that traffic looks good even on the altamont pass. there is truck slowing but it's not major. mostly clear. high clouds up there. napa airport, 36. a little north wind at 8 miles an hour puts the windchill at 30. there is a puff of a breeze there except for a few high clouds, it looks like a pretty ho-hum day. 30s on some of the temperatures. there's 36 at napa and livermore, 38. houston has been flirting with -- half moon bay has opinion flirting with 37. if it feels colder, it is. the system that came by left behind cooler air. a little bit more in the way of cloud cover to the north and very, very light rain. not much here but there is a little bit.

a mobile home in redding that was filled with more than 60 pounds of explosive material has been burned to the ground. sheriff's deputies lit the house on fire yesterday with a remote ignited flame. 46 nearby homes had to be evacuated for the operation. the exploesives were discovered about a week ago when a blast injured the man living there. deputies say the man claims the explosives were used for model rockets. no arrests have been made. police in arizona are questioning a possible suspect in a deadly shooting inside a walmart store. it happened late yesterday in the phoenix suburb the chandler. -- dash of chandler. police say one man pulled out a gun and shot another customer during a fight inside the store. the wounded man tied several hours later in the hospital.

homicide of the year. janine de la vega just talked with police and you are back now to tell us what you just found out, janine. >> reporter: dave, detectives are still interviewing witnesses at this hour. they are still trying to sort this out. they have not made any arrests yet but here's what we know so far. this all started at 3:00 yesterday afternoon. police say a fight broke out at the flea market on capital. it spilled out on the streets and police say at some point, a man was stabbed at least once and hit by a car, that driver sped off. investigators say there were multiple vehicles involved and many witnesses. detectives are still trying to figure out how many people are responsible for this crime. >> it's a minimum of one suspect but it could be multiple suspects as the investigation unravels here. but again, we're asking as we normally do that if anybody was in the area left the scene witnessed anything that they

please contact the homicide unit. >> reporter: police also interviewed at kaiser santa teresa hospital. both came in with injuries. one of them had been stabbed. another was hit possibly by a car. officers have determined that the two were involved in the melee yesterday. police have a lot of witness statements to sift to before releasing any suspect or vehicle descriptions. they need to go through surveillance video to see if it can provide clues as to what happened. as far as the victim's identity, it's not been released but we're being told the victim was in his 30s. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. san jose police are searching for suspects in a double shooting yesterday afternoon. it happened near burdette drive in east san jose. when police got there, they found a man and woman were both shot at least one time. both are expected to survive. it's still not clear what led up to the gunfire.

fairfield police are searching for clues after a 16- year-old girl was shot to death over the weekend. tara moriarty is live in the neighborhood this morning to let us know how neighbors are reacting to this tragic news. good morning, tara. >> reporter: well, good morning. we did speak with a neighbor earlier this morning and he told us that naomi rojas was with her best friend, a guy, when she was killed. police are not releasing a lot of information about this case. we do know that the community around here has been deeply affected by her death. [in spanish] >> reporter: rojas's friends came out here last night, they were lighting candles and praying on the tracks where it happened. she was found shot to death 4:00 saturday morning killed behind the railroad tracks behind the apartment building on feengs drive. police -- phoenix drive.

her at a party and took pictures. media outlets reported those photos went viral. but a paper is disputing that claim. the reporter's decision to did against the subpoena and protect the confidentiality of their source earned them an award from the society of professional journalists. oakland police say it may take a few days before we find out the name of the person found badly burned in the oakland hills. a body was found near redwood regional park. police that the body was that of an adult woman. but they don't know anything else. a man told ktvu he saw an orange glow but he thought it was kids causing trouble. he did not want to be identified but said he was shocked when a friend told him about the body. >> and that's when it just clicked. i'm like oh, my god, you know,

i saw that. police say the coroner is now trying to determine the name of that woman. 7:36 there is a warning about cactus sold at specialty stores around the state. including the bay area. the plants which are sold to -- to be eaten were sold in concord, sacramento, stockton and woodland. they are contaminated with a pesticide that's been banned since 1989 because it causes permanent damage. it was sold between february 6th through february 12th. people who bought it should get rid of it or return it to the store. muni starts to work on its spending plan for the next two years. the board will hold the first public hearing on muni's brightest picture. the board will consider muni rides to shutting off parking meters on sunday.

7:44. shocking new claim from a pennsylvania woman charged with killing a man she met on craigslist. she's claiming to be responsible for killing at least 22 other people as part of her involvement in a satanic cult. 19-year-old amanda barber made that claim during a jailhouse interview on friday night. she said she would lure her victims, become their friend, and then kill them. she says she stopped counting after 22 murders. pennsylvania police are working with the fbi to investigate those claims. prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for both barber and her husband in the killing

well, good morning. it's 8:00. welcome back to "mornings on 2." these are live pictures. a continuing investigation in san francisco into a shooting in the heart of the busy district. we're looking at the westfield shopping center. that's where a young man was shot and they are searching for the gunman. alex savidge has been on this. he'll have more details in his live report in a couple of minutes. it's monday morning, february 17th. i'm dave clark. good morning. i'm tori campbell a quick look at weather and traffic. steve, any rain in the forecast? >> late tuesday, early wednesday. it does not look like much, though. we have a few high clouds. a little bit of fog has decided to join the party coming in. more coastal than the inland fog. still upper 30s. sfo, 51. half moon bay, 50. some of the fog coming in. hint of a breeze has definitely

and no no major problems on -- no mikor problems on the contra costa freeways. they all look good. back to the desk. we are learning there's new information this morning -- in fact, we're learning that a chp officer has died after an accident in fresno county. there are unconfirmed reports that a second officer may have been killed as well. it happened just before 6:00 on southbound highway 99 at bethel avenue. the initial report was that the driver of a white pickup truck fell asleep and hit the center divide. it was facing the wrong way in the lanes with its lights off and other cars hit it. the reports say when the chp responded their car overturned and crashed. parts of the highway near the site are closed. we will continue to follow the story and bring you more details as we get them. time is 8:02. san francisco police are searching for the gunman responsible for a shooting in the heart of the shopping

district. alex savidge is live outside of the westfield shopping center on market street with the latest information on the shooting victim. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning. police do believe the victim in this case was targeted. a 19-year-old young man who was shot several times right here in the middle of busy market street. it happened just outside of the westfield shopping center last night. police are going over surveillance video trying at this point to identify the shooter. they've not done so yet. it was after 7:00 last night when the gunfire broke out. the street was passed with -- was packed with shoppers. many people ducked inside the west feefld shopping center to get away from the gunfire. police blocked off the sidewalk to gather evidence. we're told the wounded teenager stumbled down the stairs that lead to the powell street b.a.r.t. station that prompted authorities to temporary shut the station down for a time. one person who was down here said he heard the shooting and said he saw people running to

get away. >> most people were scattering everywhere. it wasn't cool. it wasn't cool at all. >> make you nervous? >> yeah, i was nervous. i was scared. i was paranoid. i was glad it wasn't me. >> the teenaged victim underwent surgery last night. police say he's still alive at this point although he suffered very serious injuries in this shooting. police have not said what may have prompted the gunman to open fire on this man but again they do believe the victim was targeted. police say it's extremely fortunate no innocent bystanders were hit with bullets flying here in the middle of this busy shopping district in san francisco. we're live this morning in san francisco, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. 8:04. last night's shooting forced the closure of muni's powell street station for the second night in a ray. on saturday, a muni train ran over and killed a homeless man who police say was trying to retrieve his backpack from the tracks. the deadly accident caused

delays for some riders heading to the chinese new year's parade. 8:04. it's been three years now since a major landslide in san pablo threatened seven homes. some residents say their homes are still in danger and it's the city's fault. ktvu's brian flores is in san pablo now and brian, you are getting reaction from both sides. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. one resident that we spoke with didn't want to be on camera but he told me off camera he's frustrated and still living in fear because he doesn't know when the next landslide will take place. if we take a look behind me you can see a huge tarp covered by sandbags. it's been here for quite sometime. some residents want to know when a more permanent fix will take place. ktvu was there three years' when heavy rains and what residents say was an apparently city run faulty drain system eng daneered seven homes. four of the homes are on wymeen. three are down the slope. some residents tell the contra

costa times even after three years nothing has been done to permanently fix the problem and that they blame the city for not maintaining and ficking the drainage system. and that remains a threat that more landslides could happen. they say the old system cblthed to the landslide -- contributed to the landslide. but the city says that's not the case when the experts said they were not contributing -- a contributing factor to the landslide. one resident who we spoke with not involved said there's a lot of finger-pointing going on. >> they had to remove a lot of system and put in drinnage systems now -- drainage systems now and have covered it with plastic so it probably won't occur but there's still expenses involved. >> reporter: now, the city also told the contra costa times that it can't comment because the current litigation by the residents against the city at the time the city hoped for relief funds from the state and federal government but those

shooting death of andy lopez. the 13-year-old was shot while carrying a replica rifle that deputy eric gelhaus says looked like a real ak-47 assault rifle. the march is set to take place at the old square in santa rosa at 1:30 this afternoon. the district attorney said she's not completed her investigation. police in martinez want the public to help in solving a possible murder. 53-year-old christie lee southrich was arrested yesterday. now, police say they are investigating a suspicious death at a home zalia avenue and they say that led hem to south -- led them to southrich and she was booked on murder charges. san leandro police have issued a warning to the public about two burglars posing as utility workers. nine days ago, they stole several items from a home while pretending to check for water problems. police are concerned there

could be more victims. so far investigators only have a vague description of the two burglars. they are a man and a woman in their 20s, spotted driving a dark colored pickup truck. a salinas man has been arrested for embezzling thousands of dollars from clint eastwood's golf club. authorities say morton is suspected of forgery and stealing more than 33,000. so far, there have been no comments from the be -- from the club. there is a new online database listing fines for senior care homes all over northern california. this is the first time the general public has been able to see how these home club facilities are rated. five of the ten with the most fines are here in the bay area. the highest bay area offender, jai residential home in

overnight on an ethiopian airplanes plane heading to rome. authorities say the lead pilot stepped away to use the bathroom. that's when the copilot locked him out of the cockpit. the man in his early 30s through the plane to geneva switerland. he told the control tower he wanted asylum there. the control tower workers did not guarantee him asylum before he finally landed the plane and surrendered to police at geneva international airport. the 200 passengers and crew on the plane were not hurt and passengers were not even aware that the plane had been hijacked. officials say the pilot or rather the copilot will be charged with taking hostages and could face up to 20 years in prison. live in washington, kyla campbell, ktvu channel 2 news. 8:16. a woman from napa has collected 3500 signatures in her petition drive to create a new three strikes law for child abuse. this is in response to last

8:17. let's bring sal back. it's a federal holiday. not a lot of cars on the road. how does traffic look? >> traffic looks okay. the chp usually does extra enforcement for these long holiday weekends. one of the things i've noticed when we get crashes they tend to be more serious. people are driving faster because the roads are wide open. let's take a look at what we have now with the bay bridge. it's wide open for you. a ten-minute drive into san francisco with no major problems into the city. interstate 880 oakland that looks good and there are no major problems. i will show you the maps just to show you how the road sensors look green on 880 to 580 on highway had 13. clear cold. now we get the combination of the low and higher clouds. very little rain up to the

extreme north. less than a couple of/100ths. livermore was -- of 1/100ths. livermore was in there. low clouds came in. a little bit of a breeze has picked up for some. that's allowed temperatures. 8:00 hour we start to rebound. a little bit of a westerly or northwesterly breeze in place. even though these higher clouds are coming in, not that big of a deal they will still be machine to the south -- mostly sunny to the south. partly cloudy to the north. you can see some of the gray right there. that will keep temperatures in the 50s for parts of the coast or very low 60s. one more system and then that will be late tuesday into wednesday. it looks really warm after that quiet if our forecast models are right. i think they are. mostly sunny. 60s on the temperatures today. upper 50s very low 60s and because of that kind of a westerly breeze. these are right about where we should be this time of year, believe it or not. 60, 64. most locations will be pretty close. farther away warmer. closer to the coast, except for santa cruz, upper 50s, low 60s.

a mobile home in redding filled with more than 60 pounds of explosives burnt to the ground. sheriff's deputies used remote controls to set it on fire. 46 nearby homes were evacuated. the explosives were found about a week ago. a man was hurt by an explosion there. so far no arrests have been made. check out this bright, pink door. this is on grandma linda's ice cream shop in sonoma. some people are seeing red about this. the owners of the building say the color was approved by the design review commission. part of the exterior is painted bright pink after the color was approved by the design review commission. but some people say the commission was not following its own guidelines and that the color takes away from the historical value of that building. they plan to appeal the color at a city council meeting on march 3rd. a construction site in los

the only unfortunate part is days where the roads are wide open. we tend to have more serious crashes because speeds are up. chp does added enforcement on holiday weekends just to make sure you are following the rules. bay bridge toll plaza, very light. about 10-minute or less drive into san francisco. as you look at the east bay, the traffic here looks good on 5le 0 and on 8 -- and on 880. but then on the peninsula, 101 and 280 looks good. 101 looks good to the airport. back to the desk. breaking news out of fresno county. two chp officers are dead after an early-morning multivehicle accident. the names of both officers, they are men. they've not been released as of yet. we're just getting this video in. we'll get to it in a moment. but this incident happened before 6:00 this morning on southbound highway 99 at bethel avenue near kingsburg. again, video is jusm coming in.

it has just happened. the chp says the driver of a white pickup truck fell asleep hit the center divide. it was facing the wrong way in the lanes with its lights off when other cars hit it. and as the chp responded, their car hit the others and flipped over. parts of highway 99 in fresno county near that site they are blocked off for an investigation. it will probably stay that way for most of the day. this is a still-developing story in fresno county. we'll keep an eye on it and bring you more details as we get them in. time is 8:32. police in san jose, they are trying to track down who stabbed and killed a man and then ran him over. detectives are investigating this as homicide -- the homicide -- the seven ngt th hges of the year in -- homicide of the year in san jose. janine de la vega is there with more. >> reporter: no arrests yet in

this case. police are still trying to figure out how many people are involved in this homicide. they say there were a lot of witnesses to an argument that escalated into a stabbing and then into a hit and run. police say that a fight broke out at 3:00 yesterday afternoon at the flea market on capital near snell. those involved were kicked out by security. but the confrontation continued onto the street. police say at some point, a man was stabbed at least once and then hit by a car. the driver of that car then sped off. everyone in a scene like this, you have multiple witnesses calling in regarding various types of vehicles, people involved. descriptions of people that were involved. so again, investigators have been working through the -- through the evening and are still working early this morning to figure out what happened. the victim's identity has not been releed -- released. a flea market vendor said he knew the victim.

>> nobody deserves that. you get run over and i heard he was pretty well torn up. he wasn't a big by. a little guy. he's not a threat to anybody. he's a good guy. >> reporter: police also interviewed two people at kaiser santa teresa hospital. both came in with injuries. one of them was stabbed. another was hit. possibly by a car. they've determined that the two were involved in this case. police have a lot of witness statements to sift through before releasing any suspect or vehicle descriptions. they need to go through surveillance video to see if that can provide any more clues as to how this all happened. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. san jose police are searching for suspects in a double shooting. it happened yesterday afternoon near burdette drive and south king road in east san jose. police found a man and a woman who had been shot at least once. both victims are expected to

survive. it's unclear what led up to the gunfire. more information about a burned body found saturday night in the oakland hills. it was found near the entrance of redwood regional park. it was an adult woman according to police. but they are not able to know anything else. now, a man driving home along skyline boulevard told ktvu he saw the fire and a car parked near it. he didn't want to be identified but he said he thought it was kids playing around until the following morning when a friend told him about that body. >> that's when it just clicked. i'm like oh, my god. i saw that. >> police say the coroner is investigating trying to determine the name of that woman. police in fresno say a man watched helplessly as his wife and four children died in a fiery car crash. the chp says the man was driving behind his wife's car saturday night when the driver of a minivan ran a stop sign and hit her. the car burst into flames.

the family was trapped inside. police say the man smashed the car windows but could not rescue his family. the driver of the minivan as ware ast -- was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries. fair field police who are investigating the shooting of a 16-year-old girl are asking the public for help. ktvu's tara moriarty is live in fairfield and was able to get an update from one of the officers on patrol. good morning tara. >> reporter: we caught up with him about a half-hour ago. police say they have solid leads in this case. that's positive news. he believes that more information should be forthcoming this morning. the killing happened behind me right behind this apartment complex near the railroad tracks. almost three years since this major landslide happened there. but some people in that neighborhood say their homes are still in danger. the contra costa times reports several people in the area say the city still has not fixed a bad drainage system and more landslides are possible. and san francisco police still searching for the gunman responsible for a shooting last night right in the heart of the city's shopping district. alex savidge is live outside of the westfield shopping center on west market street. you have the latest information on the shooting victim. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning to you, dave. police do not believe this was a random act. they say the victim in this case was clearly targeted. a 19-year-old man who was shot several times last night right in the middle of busy market street. after the teen was hit. he stumbled down these stairs that lead to the powell street b.a.r.t. station and that prompted the closure of that station for a short time. the street was packed when the

shooting hammed after 7:00. many people ducked into the west field shopping center to escape the gunfire. police blocked off the sidewalk in this area as they gathered evidence. one man who was nearby at the time told us he heard several gunshots and he told us he was thankful no innocent bystanders were hit. >> very fortunate here. very fortunate, you know, it's kind of inconvenient, you know, for some gunshots to go off in this area. >> this is surprising for something to go on like this down here especially with a bunch of tourists and things like that, you know. >> reporter: the teenaged victim in this case underwent surgery last night at the hospital and police say he is still alive. we don't know his current condition. police haven't said what may have prompted the gunman to open fire but again, they do believe the shooter in this case was targeting this teenager. bebring you back out here to a live picture in san francisco, you can see here is the

from heroin overdoses is way up this year. there's a new version of heroin that's becoming more common. authorities say more than 80 people have died in recent weeks because many drug dealers are lacing heroin with a powerful prescription drug. fentanilyl. the heroin found in phillip hoffman's apartment did not contain the additive. more additives are turning to heroin because of crackdowns on prescription drugs. rosy open donnell is revealing that she had weight loss surgery to improve herself after suffering a serious heart attack in 2012. she lost 40 pounds. during a keynote speech for the american heart association in detroit, o'donnell said she had the surgery to save her life after suffering a heart attack and said she wants to get the
