we have more of an onshore direction. low clouds have really filled in. 50s on the temperatures or 40s. much, much warmer this morning. you can see why. that low cloud deck continues to make a push from west to east. our system looks good tomorrow. tomorrow afternoon into thursday morning. possibility maybe of some thunderstorms. not only that but i think this could be a better system for us than the one we see on friday and saturday. we'll still get rain but the other one is looking like it wants to head towards southern california. .5 to 2 inches possible -- inches possible by thursday and friday. 50s by the coast. 60s, low, mid, upper a few low 70s inland. here's sal. another day in the life of the east bay. a lot of slow traffic everywhere. we have a crash now on 980 at the 580 interchange eastbound 980 or heading on 980 up

towards highway 24, make it easy for people to understand there. the traffic is going to be affected. i would avoid 980 at this point and try to use city streets to avoid the split as it has become an injury crash. i want to take a look at 880 southbound. they had a crash near hegenberger. it was in the left lane. they removed it. now traffic has recovered. there's the good news. at the bay bridge toll plaza, we have a backup. it's about a 25, 30-minute drive time between the maze and san francisco. 7:03. back to the desk. breaking news in san jose, where crews are working to control a trailer fire near several businesses. ktvu's janine de la vega is on the scene and just talked with one man whose business is right next to where the blaze began. good morning. >> reporter: as you can see behind me, firefighters have knocked down this fire at this portable building. but there's still some spot

hots that's smoldering. they are not actually calling it under control just yet. but i did speak to the owner of a drywall business. now, he owns that portable building. he told me he was just trying to help out a friend and left his friend -- let his friend live in the trailer. he was always concerned it might catch fire because he knows his friend smokes. he doesn't know if that was the cause of the fire. let's go to video we took earlier when we first arrived. you can see there are large plumes of smoke in the air. this is on 24th street near san antonio. this is industrial and residential neighborhood, the same neighborhood in downtown san jose where the arsonist was sitting in san jose a couple of months back. this started at 5:45 a.m. and the man inside that portable trailer said he was asleep and woke up to smoke just completely choking him. he was able to run out of the trailer. now he's being evaluated inside

an ambulance. he's refused to go to the hospital. again, this is behind a drywall business. but there was no threat to any other structure. here's what a fire captain told me about a possible cause of the fire. >> right now working on initial knockdown. i don't think we have it under control. they are still putting out some hot spots, trying to get it knocked down. we had a threat to a building backing up to it. it's a large commercial building. thats what the reason to go to a second alarm. we wanted to make sure we keep it under control and not have this spread to a neighboring building. >> reporter: the fire captain told us that they are still investigating the cause of the fire. again, an investigator needs to come out here and collect evidence, doing a interview with the -- do an interview with the gentleman sleeping inside the building. firefighters are gonna stay here and mop this up. but no threats at this point to any of the other buildings. the owner of the drywall business is feeling fortunate

that it did not harm his business. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, janine. in the mean file, investigators are look -- in the meantime, investigators are looking for clues in another deadly fire in san jose. it started early this morning at a backyard cottage in the city's buena vista neighborhood. police are now calling the cottage a crime scene. tara moriarty talked with neighbors and will share what they had to say about the man in a live report at 7:30. 7:06. in a couple of hours, a napa mother and her boyfriend charged with the killing of the woman's 3-year-old daughter, they are due in court. the body of kayleigh slusher was found in the apartment in napa on february 1st. police say the little girl's body was kept in a freezer and a suitcase for a few days. the mother and her boyfriend were later arrested. both are expected to enter a plea today in court. the woman accused of going on a deadly shooting rampage at

a tribal meeting. had sherry rhodes is accused of killing four people and injuring two others. she reportedly was suspended as the tribal woman for the tribe and was being investigated for $50,000. it was missing from the tribe. police say she started shooting opening fire when they tried to evict her at that meeting. now, if she's convicted, she faces the death penalty because there were several victims. 7:07. we're learning more about the innocent bystander hit and killed by a car that was street racing in fairfield. he's been identified as ron bracket of fairfield. he was engaged to be married and was the father to three children including a 7-week-old son. bracket was in his mazda when a car slammed into him sunday night. police say that car was racing a pickup truck. the truck kept going. police are still looking for that driver.

the driver of the car that hit bracket was hospitalized. 7:07. well, san francisco's poisonous meet ball threat appears to be spreading to a new neighborhood -- meatball threat appears to be spreading to a new neighborhood. alex savidge is live with more and police say the same meatballs were found in another neighborhood. >> reporter: good morning. people in the outer richmond are concerned about finding out about this and plan to keep a close watch on their pets. four suspicious meatballs were found on the sidewalk where we are this morning. we're close to fulton. this discovery was made on sunday night and police are now testing those meatballs found here to see if they are, in fact, poisonous. police say they do look similar to other meatballs that were found over in the twin peaks neighborhood this past weekend. in that case, more than 20 poisonous meatballs were found hidden in bushes and shrubs and

they had clearly been left behind with the intent to hurt pets. last july, hundreds of meatballs laced with poison were found in san francisco and one dog even died after eating the 345e9. one dog owner we talked to said this latest meatball discovery here in the outer richmond is gonna make him take precautions. >> i don't think the person likes dogs. other than that, i don't know what to say. the bummer part, you have to make sure you can see. >> reporter: police say all of these various meatball discoveries around the city are being investigated as one case and police do believe just one person is responsible. they would like anyone out there who knows any information on who is creating these poisonous meatballs to come forward. meantime, police are warning pet owners to keep their pets on a tight leash. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. in about an hour from now,

a rally will be held to santa clara county celebrating a tentative agreement for thousands of home care workers in the south bay. now, the county of santa clara santa clara and its work force, they have reached a tentative deal that they say will strengthen its program by investing in extra training for providers. more details about this deal expected to come out today. by the way, it still needs to be voted on by the workers. 7:10. the santa clara sheriff's department is hoping newly released video will help them catch an armed robbery suspect. officials say this man is responsible for a robbery over the weekend in east san jose. you can see he was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt when he went into a 7-eleven store on north white street saturday morning. deputies say he took out a gun and demanded money. anyone who recognizes this man is asked to call the sheriff's office. san francisco has a new plan to eat the city's housing

crunch. many property owners hoping to get rid of illegal, rundown homes will have to pay to bring them up to code. the change is part of mayor lee's plan to add 30,000 units of housing to the city over the next six years. the goal is to ease the growing crisis that's made san francisco one of the most expensive places to live in the nation. people in larkspur are fired up after anonymous postcards arrived in their mailboxes urging people to propose the closure of the marin gas station. city hall has been flooded with angry phone calls. the mailer says "a new york bank wants to close the station and provide tellers with atms." there's no official propose hal to convert marin gas into a bank but there may be a former proposal submitted later this year. the average price for a gallon of gas has gone up. 17 days in a row.

it's likely to go higher as refineries shut down for scheduled maintenance. aaa says that's the longest streak of daily increases since last may. it means drivers across the country are paying about 15 cents a gallon more than earlier this month. here in the bay area, we're paying $34.80 which is actually -- 3.80 which is actually 30 cents cheaper. some angry bay area parents say they their kids are not being supervised at school. and they have the video to prove it. pressure is growing on arizona's governor to reject the gay bill. the looming deadline faced and why the nfl is getting involved in the debate. we're looking at traffic that's getting busier. we also have traffic in san jose that's slowing down and a big problem at a major intersection in the east bay

welcome back. 7:15. the pressure mounting on arizona's governor to veto a controversial anti-gay bill. hundreds marched in phoenix against the anti-gay measure. it would allow business owners to refuse to serve gay and lesbian customers paced on their religious beliefs. arizona's legislature approved it. and jan brewer has until friday to decide if she will sign it. supporters say it's about religious freedom. many faith leaders say they are against this measure. i'm quite frustrated and angry that they are using

bribes. federal investigators say he accepted kickbacks from a long beach hospital official who did not want insurance laws changed. they say he also look bribes from what he thought was a hollywood studio. instead, it was an fbi sting operation. there are calls for him to resign by the end of the week. 7:16. well, medical researchers this morning have an important new warning if you like to eat meat. they say browning meat in the oven, on a grill or a frying pan produces chemicals that may increase the risk of developing it dementia. the study comes from researchers at the school of medicine at mount sinai in new york. they say they did extensive testing on both people and on mice. the critics of the study say a lot more testing needs to be done. meantime, a leading consumer group wants the fda to put warning labels on popular

the freeway. if you look at the freeway nearby, the traffic is slow anyway. not having anything to do with this vehicle that hit a pedestrian. so 680 and treat boulevard. good areas to expect slow traffic as we move the maps to oakland, there is an injury crash near on 980 heading over to the 580/24 interchange. that would be eastbound 980 and the traffic is backing up in an unusual spot where it is normally doing very well. imwould say use 880 as an alternate route even if you are going to the bay bridge. it might be better for you anyway. now, speaking of the bay bridge, it's about a 25-minute drive time from oakland to san francisco. 280 northbound as you are driving through, that's not good. you can see how slow it is. one of the things we've noticed is this is just a much slower day than yesterday. i don't see a crash up ahead. we'll keep watching for you. sunrise over the big city. but the fog returns. a very nice tweet from krista.

fed up. but the socialist president still has popular support. as ukraine's parliament works to put together a new government, that country is struggling to deal with everything that's happened in the past three months. the anti-government protesters, the ones who camped out in the central square of kiev, they are still there and will stay they say until a new president is elected. the square it has become a memorial to the 82 protesters who were killed. people who stopping by paying their respects. protesters did succeed in driving the president out of power. there is a warrant out for his arrest. but it's just not clear where he is. in fact, just this morning, there's word the president's former chief of staff was shot yesterday and is in the

investigation. new this morning, investigators are also looking for clues into a deadly house fire in san jose. it started early this morning at a backyard cottage in the city's buena vista neighborhood. tara moriarty tells us why police are now calling that cottage a crime scene. good morning, tara. >> reporter: well, yeah, they have to protect the ingregtity of --ive teg grity of the -- integrity of the scene because someone did lose their life. they are sifting through the rubble to see what exarblthly started the fire. -- exactly started the fire. there is a man looking at everything. we're told he's the owner of the main house as well as the cottage that is completely decimated right now. we want to show you a photograph that a firefighter snapped. this is a picture of the cottage on fire and a large column of smoke could be seen about a quarter of a mile away off willard avenue and doug rat street. after the -- douglas street.

after the fire was out, crews discovered a body. a man in his late 40s named brad lived in the commage. >> when i got back -- cottage. >> when i got back there, we found him six feet in the structure. a pretty gruesome scene in the back. >> reporter: we did see a relative or friend of the man's arrive on scene. he was quite distraught. we have no confirmation from investigators on the identity of the person who died but crews were able to keep the flames from spreading. luckily, no one else was hurt. no word on what caused the fire. but the captain out here told ktvu that it could take days, if not weeks, to figure out that. if we want to pan to the left. i want to make a clarification. the man in the black shirt is the one we are told is the owner. the one in the brown shirt is the friend of the man who lived in the cottage.

no confirmation of the identity. >> all right. 7:35. we're also getting a new look at that huge fire. the one that gutted the warehouse of a san francisco cab company yesterday. >> you can hear the explosions, oh, my god. >> now, a witness shot this video of the fire. it destroyed the maintenance warehouse of luxor cab. it started yesterday just before noon on gerald avenue in the bayview district. the six workers who were in that warehouse, escaped the fast-moving flames. but at least a dozen cabs were destroyed. investigators still don't know what caused the fire. 7:36. an update to 2 investigates story we told you about during the 6:00 news yesterday. representatives from the oakland school district are expected to be at fruitvale elementary this morning after reports of little or no adult

supervision. brian flores has more. >> reporter: good morning. we're live here in front of fruitvale element ear school. school will be -- elementary school. the district officials after seeing our 2 investigates piece yesterday has decided to take a second look at what can be done at the cool to stop fights from happening. i want to go to the video provided to us by a parent of a fight she said took place back in december. she tells ktvu this is one example of several fights that happened on a weekly basis. she tells us she hears about four or five fights per week and she said it needs to stop. but the other major concern is the lack of supervision. she says not enough is being done. in fact, when our crew was here yesterday during recess. we didn't see a lot of supervision. we saw a couple of kids jumping the fence with no adults intervening. it took several minutes for the principal to come out and bring the kids inside. it goes to the heart of what

parents told us. safety for the kids. >> i'm scared. i pop up here all of the time and i let him know. nothing better happened to my child. >> reporter: after showing this to the district, they say they have agreed to take steps today in fact two people will be here this morning. one person will be here at the school analyzing staffing levels to basically see if more people are needed. another person will be here that smeksizes in -- specializes in anti-bullying programs to see what can be added or improved upon. we understand that parents will receive a letter sometime this week outlining procedures and policies. brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:38. tonight, the santa clara valley water district will talk about new ways to cut back on water. they are gonna vote on a 20% reduction of water use. that's double what was requested last month. this could mean new restrictions on watering lawns

and temporary hikes on rates. the reservoirs are only 33% full. they need at least 8 inches of rain before there's enough runoff to ease their concerns. east bay m.u.d. may start diverting travel to help customers get through the drought. in 2010, the water district completed the freeport regional project. it's a large complex of fish screens, pumps built along the river in partnership with sacramento county. the district will vote on a decision to divert water in april. they don't know how many water they may have to take. caltrans is expected to respond to a reported warning about the new bay bridge when it updates the 6.4 billion project this morning. today's chronicle reports that warning came from the lead designern of the new eastern -- designer of the new eastern span. the engineer told caltrans, the

welded connections linking the giant steel sections together were vulnerable to damage in a major earthquake. but caltrans reportedly concluded the weld problem would only cause "limited local damage." the price to go across the golden gate bridge could be going up in about a month. district officials are set to vote this week on a proposal to raise the toll from $6 to $7 in april. the tolls would then rise by another quarter in 2016. another 25 cents in 2017 and in 2018, the toll would rise to $8. fastrack customers would keep a one-dollar discount through the changes. a final vote could happen as soon as friday. 7:40. new information about friday's b.a.r.t. train derailment, the one that caused weekend delays for thousands of riders. b.a.r.t. investigators are taking a close look at the twisted and mangled tracks near the concord station. they say wear and tear may have

accident. both worked in fresno. both officers worked in the bay area as well before. now, dozens of officers from san jose and oakland went to that service. >> both young men dedicated to the mission of the california highway patrol and took great pride in their work. countless others are alive because of their dedicated service. >> after that solemn service, law was buried in clovis where he lived and gonzalez was buried in his home town of tulare. more than 20 california children have developed an extremely rare illness with symptoms like polio. five children are from the bay area. a berkeley family whose 4-year- old daughter who became partially paralyzed is speaking out. sofia jarvis was stricken when she was 2 years old with the polio-like disease and has lost the use of her left arm. her neurologist is tracking five similar cases in the bay

welcome back. 7:54. a leopard is on the loose in india. people are scared. the leopard was found in a local timber shop before being corer inned in a hospital. there it is. when animal control teams got there, the leopard made a daring escape, actually smashing through a window. but onlookers also hampering the efforts to capture the leopard. so far, seven people have been hurt by the leopard. the three women who survived years of captivity in a house in cleveland, ohio before they were set free, they received courage awards from the governor of ohio last night. but the portable building is just completely destroyed. the man who lived inside is not injured. this is located behind a drywall business. the owner said he's getting a friend who had fallen on hard times stay in the trailer. the fire started at 5:45 this morning in that portable building on east san antonio near 24th street which is a neighborhood that's a mix between residential and industrial. a person called 911 after seeing the flames and huge plumes of smoke billowing in the air. firefighters say the man inside the trailer said he was sleeping and woke up to the smoke. he ran outside and was evaluated by emergency crews. firefighters knocked down the flames in about a half-hour and prevented it from spreading to a nearby towing company. >> we're definitely lucky it didn't get our building. we have cars in our warehouse right there. pretty scary. >> it was burning pretty good.

a crime scene. 8:05. about 30 minutes from right now, a napa mother and her boyfriend charred with the killing of the woman's 3-year- old daughter, they are due in court. the body of caylee slusher was found in her mother's -- kaye leigh slusher was found in her mother's apartment. her mother and her boyfriend were later arrested. the woman accused of going on a deadly shooting rampage is due in court, last week in a tribe am meeting. sherry rode is accused of killing four people and injuring two others. she was suspended for the cedarville type. and was being investigated for misusing $50,000 from the tribe. police say she opened fire when they tried to evict her at the meeting. if convicted, she could get the

death penalty. 8:03. we're finding out more about that innocent bystander hit and killed in fairfield by a car that was street racing. he was 31-year-old ron bracket of fairfield. he was engaged to be married. the father of three children including a 7-week-old son. bracket was driving his mazda turning onto lopes road when a car slammed into him. police say that was car racing a pickup truck. police are still looking for that driver. the driver of the other car is in the hospital. san francisco police are trying to figure out if meatballs found in the richmond district are poisonous just like others found in the twin peaks neighborhood over the weekend. alex savidge is live with this latest rather disturbing discovery. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning. pet owners here in the outer richmond are nervous after finding out four suspicious meatballs were discovered on

the sidewalk. here on the street where we are this morning, close to fulton. that discovery was made on sunday night. police are testing the meatballs found on the street to figure out if they are poisonous. police say they do look similar to other meatballs found in the twin peaks neighborhood over the weekend. those meatballs more than 20 of them were found to be poisonous. they were hidden in bushes and shrubs. they had clearly been left behind with the intent to hurt or kill pets. police are warning pet owners in this area to stay alert when they go out for walks and be aware of what this animals are eating. >> disappointing. upsetting that people do that for seemingly no benefit. i don't really understand it. probably need to stop it. >> reporter: and this all comes on the heels of what happened last july when hundreds of meatballs laced with poison were found across san francisco and there was one dog who i dod

phoenix against the anti-gay measure. it would allow business owners to refuse to serve gay and lesbian customers based on the business owners' religious believes. the legislation approved it and the governor, jan brower, has until friday to decide if she will sign it. supporters of the bill say it's about religious freedom but main faith leaders say they are against this measure. i'm quite frustrated and angry that they are using religion to couch their own hate -- what i would consider hatred, bigotry and discrimination. >> we think it's nothing more and nothing less than protecting religious freedom in our state and we take that very seriously. >> some arizona businesses say they are worried the law could lead to boycotts of events in arizona like next year's super bowl. so a spokesman for the nfl made a comment.

he said the league is watching developments in arizona and he says "our policies emphasize tolerance and inclusiveness and prohibit discrimination based on age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or any other improper standard." well, an effort to repeal california's new transgender student rights law has failed. the law guarantees public school students the right to use bathrooms and participate in sports depending upon which gender they relate to. now, critics collected signatures for a ballot initiative to overturn the law. yesterday, the secretary of state said they didn't have enough signatures. a long-running legal dispute between the city of san jose and the casino matrix card room, it may be ending. now, the card club opened 18 months ago. now casino matrix may get what it wants, gambling up on the top floor for high rollers. the city of san jose has been blocking it and the casino

filed a lawsuit. now some city council members are asking regulators to allow eighth-floor cam gambling by the -- gambling by the end of april. yesterday, matrix put the lawsuit on old. don't bother calling 911 if you get in a fender-bender in the gambling capital of the world. police in las vegas say they no longer have the time to respond to minor accidents. they spend about 250 hours a week responding to fender- benders on the las vegas strip and elsewhere. they would rather spend that time tackling bigger cases. starting next month, police will leave it up to the drivers to exchange insurance information. 8:17. sal, what are you seeing on our roads? >> we're following up on a crash in santa rosa that's in the noncommute direction. i want to mention it anyway. it's two big rigs and the chp recently issued a sig-alert for two trucks that got into a crash near todd road. this is the noncommute

rates of heart problems in men who use testosterone medications. now, the fda announced last month, it's reviewing the safety of those drugs. back here hat home, oakland business owners in fruitvale are concerned about rising crime. they say shootings, armed robberies, drug deals, common to see on international boulevard between fruitvale and 42nd avenue. back in 2011, the city gave those businesses in the area surveillance cameras. one man said a lot of those cameras are not working because the businesses don't want to pay for the internet required to operate the surveillance cameras. oakland police patrol the area and business owners have monthly meetings with police that but -- but they say that's still not enough. ukraine's government starts to put together a new

you have exclusive video you just received. >> reporter: it was taken when the fire was at its highest. you can see that there are investigators down there right now, arson will be sifting through trying to figure out how this fire started. you can see firefighters throwing water on the fire with their hoses. fire crews told us that a large column of smoke could be seen about a quarter of a mile away from the home just after midnight off willard avenue and douglas street. after the fire was out, crews made a gruesome discovery inside the cottage. a body. neighbors say a man in his 40s named brad lived in the cottage. >> difficult for everybody involved. we like to get in and find something. with this fire, unfortunately, it was so involve involved when we got here, we could just fight it defensively from the outside until we could cool it

down and then get it inside. >> reporter: we still have no confirmation from investigators on the identity of the person who died. the coroner removed the body this morning. luckily, firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to nearby buildings. no word on what caused this fire. but the captain out here said that could take weeks, days, perhaps, maybe even a month. we're live in san jose, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 8:36. tonight, the santa clara valley water district will consider increasing water cutbacks. it will vote on a 20% reduction that is double what it requested last month. this could mean new restrictions on lawn watering and temporarily hikes on water rates. right now, the district's ten reservoirs are only 33% full. it says it needs at least 8 inches of rain until there's enough runoff to ease concerns. the people who rely on lake mendocino for water, you are gonna have to cut your water use by 50%.

this will apply to people, to businesses and farms in ukiah valley. the mandatory restrictions were approved last week by the russian river water district. as of yesterday afternoon, lake mendocino was about 41% of its capacity. most severe water restriksdz in the -- restriction in the state. east bay m.u.d. may start to divert water from the sacramento river to help its customers get through the drought. back no 2010, the fromport project was completed. that's a large complex of fish streams, pumps and pipelines built along the river in partnership with sacramento county. the district will vote on a decision to dry vert water in april. -- divert water in april. caltrans is expected to respond to a warning about the new bridge when it gives us an update on the $6.4 billion project this morning. today's chronicle reports that warning came from the lead designer of the new eastern

span back in october of 2010. the engineer reportedly told caltrans the welded connections linking the giant steel sections were vulnerable to damage in a major quake. caltrans reportedly concluded the weld problem would only cause limited local damage. 8:38. the price to go across the golden gate bridge could be going up in about a month. district officials are set to vote this week on a proposal to raise the toll from $6 to $7 in april. the tolls would then rise by another quarter in 2016. another 25 cents in 2017 and in 2018, the toll would be $8. fastrack customers would keep a one-dollar discount through the changes. a final vote could happen as soon as friday. the number of suicides on the golden gate bridge hit its highest level in more than 40

years. the bridge rail foundation says 46 people jumped to their deaths last year. numbers were released during a news conference yesterday where people called for a safety net to prevent suicide. representatives from the oakland school district have just arrived at fruitvale elementary school after reports of several fights on the campus and little or no adult supervision. brian flores is in front of the campus right now. you will tell us about other step, the school district will be taking. >> reporter: good morning. school district officials arrived to address some of the patental concerns. they say there are several fights on campus per week but that's the reason why district officials are kind of addressing that, to see what they can do to prevent that from happening again. i'm with janet hernandez. what exactly is the district doing? >> we've called in our mental health coordinator, our

partners from lincoln chil center. myself and we're gonna sit down with the principal and said, let's use this as an opportunity to look at our procedures and practices. if there's some parent concerns, obviously kids are not feeling safe, review the polices and practices and use this as an opportunity to get better. >> reporter: we know about fights that happen in school. in this particular case, what happened here? was it a lack of resources here in terms of people -- teachers here or -- what happened here? >> i think, you know, the kids were playing. sometimes kids fight. we have to use that and get kids and do some conflict resolution and make sure -- it's probably an altercation with some kids and frontal frustration from a parent.

>> reporter: there was also a point raised in terms of there was not enough people to supervise the kids. if the district looking into that? >> yes, definitely. we're gonna look at that. if that's needed, we'll bring in some new supervisors. people from the community, they come and spend a couple of hours at lunchtime, being eyes and ears. we have a great parent support and our parents are eyes and ears as well. we might need to elevate that a little bit. >> reporter: for parents out there, fruitvale school is fruitvale school. >> it's tremendously safe. the teach, are caring. the kids are great. it's a great school. it's definitely a safe school. >> reporter: parents will be notified later this week? >> yes. we'll meet with the teachers to get everybody back and we'll send a letter home to the parents. >> reporter: jeanette thank you for your time. district officials addressth parental concerns -- addressing

well, tesla might be on the verge of shaking up a second industry, according to an analyst with morgan stanley. the company's shares are up over 18% right now. this week, tesla, which already makes top-rated electric cars, is expected to announce plans to build a new battery factory. tesla will reportedly use raw materials which will lower the cost of battery sales and the production could make tesla a major competitor in the storage business. let's bring you up to date on some of the other top stories we're following -- san jose police say four meatballs were discovered sunday night on laplaya in the outer rismmond near the ocean beach safeway. over the weekend, 20 meatballs were found in a twin peaks neighborhood. firefighters are closely watching a portable building in

downtown san jose where there was a big fire earlier this morning. ktvu's janine de la vega is there now. so what's the latest from the firefighters? >> reporter: , you know, they have pretty much wrapped up here. i did speak with the gentleman who escaped from the building. he's still shaken up. he told me he was sleeping inside when he woke up to smoke. the man said he's worried because he lived inside there with his chihuahua. we know the dog is alive because firefighters saw it running around earlier but it has not come back. the fire started at 5:45 in the portable building on east san antonio on 24th street in downtown. that person called 911 after seeing the flames and huge plumes of smoke billowing in the air. when firefighters arrived, the man who lived inside that trailer had already escaped to safety. firefighters knocked down the flames in about a half-hour and prevented it from spreading to a nearby towing company.
