hello, everybody, i'm beth troutman, if you want great videos, we've got them "right this minute." a family is posing for photos -- >> when the unthinkable happens. >> the terrifying moment when the deck gives way and why one family member is taking the case to youtube. a car dragging a bike has police in hot pursuit and -- >> there's a crazy story behind this video. >> why this is not what it looks like. it seemed impossible to rescue a cat trapped under a ferry until this.
3:01 pm
>> you're about to see the human boat. >> how a crewman backstroked her right back to shore. plus, the tuesday buzzword for your chance to win an ipad mini. and daddy's home from work and sees his daughter's shirt says -- >> big sister on it. >> what happens when the message finally sinks in. >> are you serious? >> i hope you're excited. it's a few days before christmas, and lisa wilt is hosting her family at the clubhouse in the community center in her neighborhood and they are gathering for a nice family photo when the unthinkable happens. >> oh, no. >> no! >> you'll see the front of the deck pull away from those beams and the whole deck collapse in a chain reaction. >> oh, were people injured? were they hurt? >> people were injured. and according to the family three people still aren't walking from this event. the family believes they are more fortunate that more people weren't hurt there was a 14-month-old baby that was
3:02 pm
unhurt. jeremy wilt, lisa's husband, was not at this event. he's at work. he's a nurse. he actually had to respond to some of the injuries coming into the hospital after this event. jeremy has since put together his own video. he's blaming the construction company and he's also blaming the homeowners association for not maintaining this deck properly. acrdg to wa-tv, tnstruction com are not liae because the deck is older than ten years. jeremy said he's not an engineer or construction worker but he details in his video how this deck was built and he said the front support beam was only held up by nails. there was no redundancy or bolts and he said if it wasn't his family it would have failed at some point. jeremy compares the video of damaged deck to other decks where he shows construction techniques used to make the deck stronger. >> his video is pretty convincing. you see the nails bent backwards in each of those posts.
3:03 pm
if that was the only thing holding that one section up, wow. >> that's why he's putting this video out and this grassroots campaign he doesn't want this to happen to anybody else. there are a lot of decks out there across the country that could have been built this way and he wants to bring light to that. i want to remind you guys that looks can be deceiving. this is video shot in newport beach, california, watch what you are about to catch. this is a high-speed police chase. the bumper's gone. there's a bike hanging off the side of the car. there was a front tire on the bike but it was dragging along the pavement. calls started coming into the newport beach police, we believe we are seeing a hit and run. we believe that someone hit a cyclist and then fled from the scene. police immediately arrived and started looking for this car. once they found the car, they turned on their sirens, the car didn't pull over so a chase ensued for nearly 35 minutes at
3:04 pm
speeds up to 75 miles per hour. it turns out this was not a hit and run at all. this was a makeshift bike rack. these people had created in order to transport their bike. there was a male driver, a female passenger, the female passenger was arrested and taken into custody for public intoxication, the male driver refused to cooperate with police and he was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, no word yet on what those injuries were. >> this guy did nothing wrong except mount a bike in a weird way. why not stop and pull over? >> he was driving erratically and police suspect this driver was also under the influence of alcohol. look how many police are after this car! look how many officers had to be called in to try to get this driver under control. this is a swedish sailor and works on this ferry and he heard something underneath the ferry
3:05 pm
and they figured out what it was and so somebody has to go down there and rescue it. what could it possibly be that needs to be rescued from a ferryboat? >> is it a cat? >> yes, it is. it's our first ferry rescue for a cat on "right this minute." >> it seems completely counterintuitive that a cat would end up under a boat, they are supposed to hate boats. >> which seems it weirder that you guessed cat? what makes you think a cat would be stuck under a boat? >> his fellow crewman has the uniform on and does the backstroke butterfly to swim underneath this ferry and then you can start hearing said cat. this is also one of the most interesting cat rescues on this show because you're about to see the human boat. >> oh. i bet this will be sweet. >> yep. >> a little cat ride on a belly. >> here he has grabbed the cat and the cat is pretty much agreeable as he's holding pretty good hold on him. >> oh, okay, yeah. >> that's a big cat!
3:06 pm
>> it's a big cat and it's making big noises. >> that's sweet. >> he didn't want to get the cat wet. >> huh-uh. >> looks like two cats. >> he's got the cat by the legs so he doesn't jump off but i love how he unceremoniously gets the cat back on land after all that care. >> tosses it up there. >> as you can see a beautiful feline and now back on land. hey, everybody, we're giving away an ipad mini in just a little while. >> stay tuned for the tuesday buzzword. >> you have to be 18 years old and older and a u.s. resident to enter. >> the "rtm" ipad mini giveaway coming up in just a minute. sometimes you just got to accept the fact tonight not getting in the club. the bouncer is not going to allow me in, the line is too long. whatever. maybe you get mad, whatever. don't do this. this is in southern russia, this

grazed with a bullet and a woman also at the scene was hit as well. not life threatening injuries which is a good thing. but here you see it when the guy punches the bouncer and then the guy comes in with the gun you can see people freaking out trying to hit the deck or just get out of there. just chaos here. >> you got that many people go somewhere you got your own club. >> yeah. >> your own party. a kayaker climbs up but then things go south. >> he's no longer holding on to the rock. >> his lucky getaway from hitting rock bottom. and it may be winter, but these dudes are rocking speedos because -- >> they're about to go swimming. >> they are swimming in the snow. >> see how long their strokes last.
