parents that school lets out around 3:00 p.m. so these were students in the after school program that goes till 6:00 p.m. police said they were taking precautions by having the school locked down. there is really very little information as to what the nature is of the reported assault. but we understand that the students were kept on lock down for about 35 minutes to 40 minutes. parents out here tell me they were worried. they called the school but didn't get answers about what was going on. one woman has three children and she wants to get inside and know her children are safe. we saw another police car pull up and a officer went in. we have not seen anyone come out yet. we will monitor the situation and give you more information on this as we get it. the lock down has been ended but we have not seen any of the children come out and none of

escaped the fast spreading fire. >> screaming come get the baby. >> reporter: from his hospital bed he described to us the moment he dropped his grandson out the window as smoke and fire was about to over take them. >> i hung out as far as i can to break his fall. to jump. to go down. i let him go easy. >> the window is 25 feet from the ground. his great aunt caught him. >> he said okay. that is all i needed to hear. >> reporter: he gave ossmile this morning. -- gave us a smile this morning. >> what happened? >> jump out the window. >> reporter: he, his wife and the baby were asleep about 11:00 p.m. last night when they heard someone yell fire, smoke and flames were coming from the kitchen. he knew the only way out was the window. his wife jumped first. she suffered a concussion and a

broken pelvis. for a while they couldn't find him but then found him. he then dropped him out the window. >> i closed my eyes and i hear -- boom. >> reporter: he broke his ankle. it hurts but he is relieved it paid off. >> at the end of the day going to be all right. saved our lives. >> we made it. >> reporter: at 6:00 p.m. what he says he plans to tell his grandson the next time they were together. rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. new at 5:00 p.m. a teacher pleads not guilty to molestation charges. the teacher was arrested at mira vista school on wednesday. we are learning about a new accusation that he went to great lengths to get closer to young boys on a field trip. ktvu's katy eustis is live.

last night we knew about the field trip but you have new accusations about the trip that was weeks away. >> that's right. first she held on $17 million bail. it is unlikely he will be around children anytime soon. we learned today that he was planning a field trip without the district's knowledge. an over night field trip. we spoke with the school board president today. he said he swiped permission slips and sent them home with six children for a over night field trip to a camp. that is the same place where prior abuse occurred. he says the trip scheduled for april 8 through the 11th was organized without the prince's knowledge. >> it is stunning. the forms would have been due today.

a lot of parents had already completed the form said and turned them -- forms and turned them in. there have been no claims of sex abuse from current students. he faced a judge today while he worked at making waves academy charter school. those allegations are said to have happened on over night camping trips. he pleaded not guilty to 8 felony charges with some 38 counts against him. those charges include kidnapping, lewd acts with a child, just some of the few. meanwhile the school district does admit his former employer was not called before he was hired at mira vista school because he already worked as a substitute teacher within the district. >> this did fall through had cracks but we are going to make amends and we will do better. fortunately he was apprehended before he did damage to our

let us see the damage. no injuries were reported on this first friday of march. an unusual display of water 12 stories up in the city by the bay. mike mibach, ktvu channel 2 news. police in san francisco say a man is in custody after a chase and crash. police say they got the call at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon about a stolen truck. when officers tried to stop the driver he tried to ram their police car. during the chase the driver crashed at 16th and vermont. no one was hurt. family and friends of a teen killed in a tragic accident gathered today for a sad farewell. funeral services were held for 14-year-old jenna betti. she is the student killed sunday when she was hit by a train. she ran on to the tracks to pick up her cell phone. she was remembered as a girl

who warmed people with her life and smile. new developments in a cold case with a bizarre clue. this quilt was used to cover the body of a woman murdered decades ago. police tell us they made an arrest. ktvu's robert handa is live in san jose and investigators had just reopened this case. >> reporter: that's right. the murder was a cold case the district attorney wanted to revive and now 25 years almost to the day the prosecutor in charge said they believe they solved the case. i met with the prosecutor here and he provided some preliminary details that led to having her husband and his brother arrested. as we have been reported a mother of two disappeared while going to a class on march 8, 1989. two days later her body was

found dead inside her car. the case remained a mystery. the prosecutor displayed that quilt her body was wrapped in. but it would dern out to be dna evidence -- turn out to be dna evidence and financial information that would lead to the arrests. >> a combination of physical evidence, as well as other evidence has linked her husband and his brother to her murder. we believe that both her husband and his brother were involved in abducting and strangling her. >> he has already been charged and in custody and will enter a plea in april. he will be charged next week. at 6:00 p.m. i have court documents that detail what was the physical evidence that led to the arrests. live in san jose, robert handa,

beijing. up to date on breaking news, the malaysia airlines from kuala lumpur to beijing. 239 people are above the boeing. they lost contact with the plane two hours after it took off from kuala lumpur. malaysia airlines is one of the largest air carriers in asia,

new at 5:00 p.m. news chopper 2 is over head as fire crews packed up and moved out after the discovery of mold in the fire house. they just found the mold in the treasure island fire house this week. according to ktvu's john sasaki, firefighters told him this has been going on a lot longer. he is live now with that. >> reporter: station 48 is now vacant. firefighters moved out today to get away from the mold problem. >> reporter: this san francisco fire station is no longer safe for firefighters.

>> we are closing station 48 on treasure island and moving it 4 blocks away. >> reporter: mold put crews here at risk. >> we have a report we have mold in the building and so they don't know what the extent is till they open up the walls but they recommend not having the people here. >> reporter: firefighters in the department differ. >> we called in a consultant, they came in and we got the report yesterday so the department acted immediately. less than 24 hours. >> some members have been complaining about mold for years. >> there have been statements and comments and rumors that, you know, there have been mold issues in the building. >> reporter: they would not let us see the damage but i got these photos from firefighters that show mold in the pink and carpet. >> maintenance has been deferred for a number of years.

including lewd and lascivious acts with a child. he will be back in court in may. earthquake in union city this afternoon. the u.s. geological survey said the earthquake was centered near mission boulevard. it hit before 1:40 p.m. this afternoon. the website shows people in oakland reported feeling the earthquake. there were no reports of damage or injuries. to the california drought. despite the rain the water district is considering enforcing one of the toughest restrictions in the bay area to date. thursday the board may declare an emergency water shortage and impose restrictions, including limiting irrigation and banning homes and businesses from watering homes. people who violate the ban could be fined. sunshine guilt, when the sun comes out we know we need the rain but it is nice out there. >> we are sneaking up on spring. the days are getting longer. mid-70s out there in the
