of oakland. >> new at 6:00 p.m. ktvu's cristina rendon is live where one of the cameras was vandalized. >> reporter: yeah. the cameras have nothing to do with the port of oakland. you can see the group who targeted them put paint on the lenses. they did it because it is a big money maker for the city. >> reporter: it isn't an attempt to beautify the city, it is an attemptf to make a -- attempt to make a statement about privacy. it is courtesy of a group. the group claims responsibility for vandalizing three red light traffic cams. the attacks come hours after city counsel gave a green light

to build a surveillance center. >> reporter: privacy groups have an issue with it. even though it will only over see cameras at the port of oakland they fear they will tap into other cameras. >> you would never know when information is being gathered. you never know how it will be used. >> she conflicted over how they should be used and knows attacks like this are expected when privacy is called into question. >> when you look at history and when a government ulis looking -- is looking at their people bad things happen. >> we reached out to the mayor to see how much it cost the city but they never returned our calls and we tried searching for the group and we couldn't find a way to contact

them but they plan to keep on targeting cameras. cristina rendon, ktvu channel 2 news. developing news. administrators at elementary school locked down campus after a report a student was assaulted. it was reported at 4:25 p.m. this afternoon at the world academy in oakland. the school called police after a girl said a man touched her inappropriately. the lock down was lifted before 5:00 p.m. a colorful clue led to arrests in a cold case. police know who killed a mother of two 25 years ago. ktvu's robert handa has been going through documents and has new information on the evidence against the two men who have been arrested. robert? >> reporter: the murder was a

cold case and now 25 years to the day they believe they have solved the case. i talked with the prosecutor here who provided details that lead to the arrest of her husband and his brother. as we have been reporting, a mother of two disappeared while going to a class on march 8. two days later her body was found dead inside her car at the airport. the case remained a mystery for many years. they displayed the quilt her body was wrapped in, the development of dna led to new evidence but it was found on her clothes, not the quilt and documents show it was the possible lies told by her husband that led to the arrest. dna matching him was found in a intimate area of her clothing but he claimed he had no sexual relationship with her and he

told his daughter he was with her in her car but told police he did not recall. as for the husband -- >> the husband had a financial motive in killing her. we believe there is evidence linking both david and robert in her murder. >> reporter: according to the da, they were separated at the time. he benefited from life insurance policy and a property sale. she expected to be charged next week. robert has already been arrested and charged and will enter a plea in april. live in san jose, robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. people gathered for a somber celebration today in honor of a young girl killed in a tragic accident. funeral services were held -- services were held for the 14- year-old jenna betti. investigators say she ran on to the tracks to pick up a cell phone she dropped.

she is a stupidity who was hit and kill by a train sunday. a teacher accused sexually abusing six students pleaded not guilty. ron guinto was arrested on wednesday stemming from charges he molested students during his time as a teacher at mira vista school. the president said there have been no claims of sex abuse among students at mira vista school but he tells us it appears he was planning a over night field trip that was organized without the principal's knowledge. ron guinto sent students home with permission slips. >> it is stunning. the forms would have been returned and due today and a lot of parents had already completed the forms and turned them in.

>> he faces charges including kidnapping and lewd acts with a child. police say officers shot and injured a man who fired at officers. he was arrested for attempted murder of an officer and drug possession. police officers arrived at a motel this morning and they say they saw him running away. they chased him and that is when he started to shoot that officers. police fired back and he was treated and arrested. flames racing through their apartment forcing the family to jump and this little boy made a leap of faith to safety. it was a split second decision but it probably saved the lives of several family members. ktvu's rob roth is live where he spoke with the grandfather who helped the boy make a daring jump. rob? >> reporter: it was from that second floor apartment window that a three-year-old and

grandparents jumped for their lives. >> reporter: he flashed a smile this morning after a dangerous night. >> reporter: what happened last night? >> i jumped out window. >> the reason a fire broke out in the apartment where he was sleeping with his grandparents. the grandfather who is roving from a -- recovering from a broken ankle says the heat was intense. >> unbearable hot. it is on its way. you heard the rumble of the fire. that told me to get out of there. >> the only way out was the window. the grandmother jumped first. >> i kept calling her, calling her, calling her, no response. >> reporter: then he called out for people to come to the window. then he spoke to his grandson. >> i am going to throw you out

[ laughter ] >> reporter: he dangled him out the window and let go. the great aunt caught him. >> i have stoosay i -- to say i wasn't tripping, i am going to save his life. >> reporter: then he said he jumped. he was taken to the hospital but quickly released. >> reporter: was it scary? >> reporter: he said his ankle hurts but they will take that over what could have happened. >> reporter: [ inaudible question ] >> we made it. we made it. >> investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen. the grandparent will have to find another place to live once out of the hospital. reporting live, rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. firefighters battled the apartment fire, another fire started down had street and we rushed to the scene and

captured these pictures. firefighters say this fire appeared suspicious. it started in a car port of an apartment building. 9 vehicles were damaged or destroyed but no one was hurt. this is new video of water rushing through the ceiling of a high rise when a sprinkler system broke. we learned a broken pipe from the sprinkler system to blame in an office building 12 stories up. it created a water fall in downtown san francisco today. as you can see water began pouring out of the building this morning. catching the attention of everybody below. >> all of a sudden water comes flying from the roof. gallons of water pouring down. like a water fall.

>> the building is home to a number of businesses. many of the businesses remained open after the water was shut off. the manager would not let us inside to see the damage but you saw the pictures where there is wet furniture. construction on a new bay bridge product that will make access safer and easier. it will move the exit ramp from the left to the right. the project will be visible from the southern and eastern ends of the island. but it won't effect access to residential units, part of a planned development. the project includes 8,000 new homes, a school and several hundred thousand square feet of retail and office space. >> amazing sight to see to see the area transformed. >> the project involving the ramps is expected to be

officials say horse back rider was rescued today after she was thrown off her horse and injured on a popular trail. a helicopter unit was called into help get to the woman. officials say the victim was an elderly woman who was thrown by the horse and stomped on. because of special injuries emergency crews brought her to the trauma center. two people who escaped a fire at their home are being treated for burns. you can see the intense flames from the cell phone video. it started at 3:45 a.m. this morning behind the home. firefighters say a man and a woman had trouble getting out because there were security

bars on the windows and doors. this is being treated as a crime scene because of the circumstances of the fire. >> both of them, suspicious injuries. didn't hear smoke detectors going off when the crews arrived. we have to make sure we play this cautiously. >> we are told a pet dog and chickens kept in cages were killed in the fire. the university of california is changing the way it deals with sexual assaults. this comes on the heels of a complaint and lawsuit accusing them of mislanding these crimes on campus. ktvu's ken pritchett is here now with more. >> reporter: students here at burke b whod -- university of california at berkeley who said they were treated unfairly by the university and some students filed a lawsuit as a result.

this policy announced today enacts new protections for victims but some say it doesn't go far enough. the policy applies to students, faculty and staff and expands training and education and increasing reporting requirements of sexual sexual assaults. they released the policy to conform with the violence against women act and it comes as students at university of california at berkeley took their complaints to state lawmakers seeking an audit into unfair treatment and also 31 students two weeks ago announced a lawsuit. she is one of the plaintiffs and she says the policy has its short comings although she said it was an improvement and one of those improvements, she said the policy expands the definition of lack of consent, including incidences when alcohol is used as an excuse,

what she says is the policy says no is no longer the requirement. one of the problems that is that victims do not have under the policy, the ability to demand an investigation of their case. at university of california at berkeley, ken pritchett, ktvu channel 2 news. a series of storms brought rethief california's drought conditions but officials -- relief to california's drought conditions but officials say it is not enough. the long range forecast predicts drier and warmer than normal conditions in california for the next 90 days. >> i think we have to be careful not to let our eyes
