emergency crews are responding to reports of a chemical accident at the tesoro refinery. the contra costa fire department confirms it's responding to a medical situation there. these are live pictures over the scene from newschopper2. according to reports, two workers were sprayed with sulfuric acid. back in february, two workers were sprayed with sulfuric acid and airlifted to uc davis medical center. if we get any more information we'll bring it to you later in the newscast. an arson investigation is underway in the east bay after three fires broke out in a fremont neighborhood earlier this morning. alex savidge joins us live from one baseball where little leaguers say this is not the first time this sort of things that happened. alex savidge has more.

>> reporter: the kids who play baseball here on this field are disappointed after someone intentionally set fire to the score booth behind the backstop here. what makes this all even worse, is that this booth was just rebuilt after another fire a few months ago. >> after being so many years here it's hard. >> reporter: there's frustration after people get a look at the damage of an arsonist. police say someone torched this booth. shane rhodes used to play on this road. now he volunteers for the league. >> i'm pretty mad about it. it's just a place for kids to play and have some fun. >> reporter: this same score booth caught fire back in december. it was rebuilt over the past few months and just reopened this past weekend. now it's been destroyed again. >> takes one immature person or a group of people, very immature to ruin it for the

whole community. >> reporter: this was one of three suspicious fires in the warm springs neighborhood this morning. one burned through this park bathroom. another damaged this portable classroom at james leach elementary school. students in a ymca preschool program had to be moved to another room. parents here are nervous. >> to have people come in and invade our schools, our parks, where we send our kids to school? i mean, our kids play little league, it -- it's kind of scary. >> reporter: arson investigators from the fremont police department and the fire department are working together to figure out who set these fires. and they are looking for witnesses who saw anyone suspicious from this -- in this area at around 3:00 this morning when all of the fires started. the president of the warm springs little league program says the kids should still be able to play games once the backstop is repaired. he's hopeful insurance will cover the cost of replacing that score booth but just in

case, the league is planning to collect donations. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, alex. san francisco police are searching for a man who tried to carjack a person in the richmond district this morning. it happened around 1:40 a.m. on clement street and 12th avenue. police say the man walked up to the victim at gunpoint and demanded keys to the car. when the victim did not comply, the man fired his gun into the air and ran away. police say the man was last seen walking toward park presidio boulevard. today the man accused of attempting to murder four chp officers in a gun battle on interstate 580 back in 2010 was convicted. byron williams was convicted of four counts of premedicated attempted murder of a police officer. prosecutors say that kms who was wearing body armor initiated the gun battle after being stopped for speeding and

weaving in and out of traffic. williams planned to start a right wing revolution by going to san francisco and killing people at the tide foundation and the aclu, according to police. a san francisco police officer hospitalized after being shot yesterday may be well enough to speak to investigators today. the police department says adam shaw is recovering and is in good spirits. the man accused of shooting him was arrested yesterday in san jose following a manhunt through four counties. 50-year-old jeffrey ruano has been charged with possession of ammunition but has not yet been charged with shooting the officer. the bullet that struck officer shaw has not been recovered. and investigators say without that bullet, it will be difficult to determine which firearm he was shot with. police are looking into an east bay teacher accused of child molestation. they now fear there could be more victims.

23-year-old ronald ginto faces more than two dozen charges. richmond police say he abused six boys, ages 11 to 13 on a trip to yosemite in 2012 and 2013. when those trips happened, he was teaching at making waves charter school in richmond. now there's concern about his involvement with children on other trips. investigators say ginto founded a group in 2008 called camp epic. it provided outdoor trips with middle school boys. state senator jerry hill announced he's introducing legislation that would require california utilities to beef up security at their electric substations. that's in response to a sniper attack last april that destroyed 17 transformers at a pg&e substation in san jose. hill says such attacks could cause widespread power outages. >> sb-69 requires the electric

utilities to develop security plans to, one, making the power delivery system less vulnerable to security threats, two, reduce the consequences of successful security breaches and improve the speed of power restoration. >> last year's attack about $15.4 million in damage. more than a dozen aftershocks were reported after a 6.9 magnitude earthquake in humboldt county. it hit at 10:19 off the coast of eureka. some people reported shaking as far south as redwood city and eugene, oregon. the earthquake did not trigger a tsunami warning and there were no reports of damage or injuries. people on twitter described its a strong jolt following by a rolling location. now to the search for the missing malaysian airline. as david piper reports, one of

the baur of sandy hook elementary shooter -- the father of sandy hook elementary shooter, adam lanza, is breaking his silence. peter lanza spoke to the media about his son for the first time in an interview with "the

new yorker" magazine. >> reporter: peter han za, the father -- lanza, the father of adam lanza, has broken his silence saying with hindsight i know that adam would have killed me in a heartbeat if he had the chance. in his first interview since the shooting, nearly 15 months ago, lanza tells the magazine, he has met with two families of his son's victims says a victim's family member said he forgave adam after we spent three hours talking. i didn't even know how to respond. 20 little children, six adults. >> unimaginable horror grips the nation. >> reporter: han za says when he -- lanza says when he realized what happened he called his wife at work saying over and over, i think it's adam. it's adam. lanza said he knew his son had problems but he was difficult to treat. in his words, he did not want to talk about problems and

didn't even admit he had asperger's. lanza describes changes he saw in his son. it was crystal clear something was wrong. asperger's makes people unusual but it doesn't make people like this. authorities later found that adam had holed up in his room, windows coved by black gar big bags. peter lanza says as things got worse, nancy, his ex-wife cared for him. she wanted everyone to think everyone was okay. he adds she didn't fear her son. she slept with her bedroom door unlocked and kept guns in the house which she would not have done if she were frightened. these photos released last year by the state police show an open gun locker. several firearms and a lot of ammunition inside the home. peter lanza says he's haunted by his son dreaming about him

nightly detailing one nightmare, being hunted like one of his son's victims. >> and also in the interview, peter lanza said you can't get any more evil and he wished his son was never born. security will be tighter for this year's running of the boston marathon next month. that was the word from massachusetts and federal law enforcement officials after last year's bombing. that attack killed three people and wounded 260 others. boston plans to more than double the number of police officers on the route even though they don't have any more information about a threat against the marathon this year. >> we have to also look at the nature of that threat around the world and while we have no specific intelligence to indicate that threat, obviously, all of these public safety agencies are taking every precaution necessary should a threat pop up and certainly the communication here has been second to none. >> marathon officials are asking people not to bring

backpacks or other bulky items to the april 21st race and to carry any items in clear, plastic bags. the justice department is calling on local law enforcement to adopt new strategies to fight the growing number of heroin deaths. in a video message posted online today, attorney general eric holder called heroin an urgent public health crisis. he says first responders should carry a life-safing drug that can counter the effects of someone experiencing an overdose. he said more states should offer good samaritan bills. >> addiction to heroin and other opiates is impacting the lives of americans in every state, in every region and from every background and walk of life. >> california is one of 17 states where first responders have access to the drug.

according to the justice department, between 2006 and 2010, heroin-related deaths increased by 45%. traffic is once again moving along highway 58 after a big rig fire on westbound 580 just west of airway boulevard in livermore. one right lane was temporarily blocked. that caused traffic to block up snarming the commute for -- snarling the commute for miles. the scene was cleared and all lanes were reopened by 7:00 a.m. but it took hours for the backup to clear. the skies are clearing as sunshine takes over for the second half of your day. we have warm weather moving in and we're going to be dry and warm for the week ahead. giving you a beautiful look at the crystal blue sky over the golden gate. wow, what a gorgeous one. before we move forward, in case you are interested, a look at some of the disappointing rainfall amounts we saw over the last 24 hours.

most areas picking up just a few 1/100ths at best. san francisco, santa rosa, less than that. oakland, livermore, san jose, morgan hill, not even picking up an accumulation of rainfall. so just traces in some areas. so here's a look at the system. it's slowly washing out as it moves through central california. notice the clouds going with it. so we're mostly sunny over part, of the north bay and partly sunny over parts of the south bay. this will continue to push to the south and you will have sunshine coming your way. already a bit of snan over san jose, morgan hill. giving you a look at the winds, as the new air mass moves into place, the winds are picking up a little bit. a little breezy today, perhaps tomorrow as well, especially gusty in our hills with the breeze letting up eventually. mountain view right now, 10 miles per hour. san jose westerly breeze at 12. half moon bay reporting 18 miles an howsh. for today, sunny, a little cool but temperatures are rebounding

but it will be breezy and brisk. 65 already in oakland. 65 walnut creek. you have low 60s in fairfield, napa, upper 50s to low 60s for areas along the north bay, novato stretching into san jose. along the peninsula, 59 redd wood city -- redwood city. for the afternoon, some of us will go to about 70. napa, 70 for this afternoon as well as san rafael. upper 60s for oakland. mid- to upper 60s for san francisco. the inland east bay checking in. 71 for you pleasanton. san jose, you will go to 72. 73 for morgan hill. 74 for santa cruz. the extended forecast here, notice all of that sunshine. and take a look at the temperatures for the second half of the week, we are going to warm in the -- into the low to mid-40s in some areas. overnight lows will be chillier with the dry air in place and the mostly clear skies. could have a little bit of patchy fog during the early- morning hours. but with plenty of sunshine in

china's exports slumped 18% in february and japan lowered their estimate for the last three months of last year. the dow is down 58. the nasdaq is down 11. s&p down 4. if you are thinking about selling a home in the bay area, now could be a good time. the bay area has been named the best place in the country to sell a home. zip realty based the list on median sales prices and inventory. last year, the bay area's median sales price went up 35% verses a national average of an 11.5% increase. and the ratio of homes per resident in the bay area is about 1-1. nationwide, it's nearly 7-1. some realtors attribute the air'sia economy. >> low interest rates and low inventory. tremendous job growth in the area. >> five of the top ten lists on the list are in california. sacramento, san diego, orange

county, and los angeles, also made the list. former san francisco giants' slugger barry bonds is back in a giants' uniform once again. this is bonds first time back in uniform since 2007. the career home run's leader joinled the giants at spring training for a week-long stay. he will be working with players to help improve their hitting. 49-year-old bonds appears slimmer than he did during his big years with the giants and happy about his new role. he says he's the same person he always was. >> same person, different cave ter. you have this guy over here that's crazy and this guy that's not. i'm in the middle. i can still be crazy but toned down a little bit. >> since leaving the giants he was acquitted of federal perjury charges stemming from the balco investigation and has appealed an obstruction of justice conviction. a photo posted to facebook has two students facing expulsion but it's what they
