this system goes by saturday we will bump temps up again. we get more of a westerly breeze. southwest at 21 at travis. 40 and 50s on the temps. probably because of the cloud cover, the temps around the bay and coast will not drop anymore. i think they are stuck just due to the overcast. system that was responsible for clouds in southern california now getting some spring training, light rain showers. fog, sun, mild. some low clouds in place. it will be a little cooler and breezy. inland will still be sunny but not as warm as yesterday. we have 50s and 60s coast and bay. here is brian flores. no major problems today. i'm in for sal. as we go the maps 580 westbound going into 232 and 880 southbound no major problems. as we take a quick look at the south bay it is a sea of green. hopefully it stays that way for the friday morning commute. let's take a look at 880 near

the coliseum, traffic is moving nicely. as we look at the bay bridge toll plaza, no problems. ten minute drive time to get you into oakland and san francisco. let's go back to the desk. happening now police are investigating a large marijuana seizure in the east bay. katie utehs is in hayward this morning. katie, reporting that firefighters are the ones who stumbled on to the plants while trying to put out a house fire. >> reporter: that is right. i spoke with lieutenant who tells me that hayward investigators are still trying to obtain a search warrant. so they can recover the marijuana plants that were found. but both the lieutenant and officers on scene tell me they were quote a lot of plants. here's what we know so far. a 911 call came in just before midnight with the caller reporting a roof fire at the house of a 23500 block. no one was home at the time. police forced into entry into

the home. they is when they discovered the house fire. you can see household items but it's hard to tell if anyone is really living here. nobody was home at the time as we said. pg&e crews responded to shut off the power. police tell me they are investigating the possibility whoever was growing the pot was also stealing electricity. now at some point in the next few hours, officers are expected to arrive on scene with a search warrant. and that is when they will remove the marijuana plants. we may learn more details about just how many marijuana plants were inside this home and if the grow was legal or not. live in hayward katie utehs ktvu channel 2 news. also happening right now a group of students continue to occupy the administration building at san francisco city college. we want to take you out to the college. this is a picture of people who spent the night outside the administration building. there is another 15 students inside that building.

that follows a violent confrontation between protestors and police yesterday. this is youtube video of police trying to keep protestors from entering the administration building yesterday. the protestors are demanding the resignation of trustee robert and reversal of a new payment policy requiring payment in full when students sign up. we will continue to monitor this morning's process and bring you new updates as we get them. an east bay student facing charges in a sexting scandal. students at adams, bris toe, and hill middle schools along with excelsior middle school were exchanging inappropriate cell phone pictures of themselves. the students range in age from just 12-14. one girl told investigators

that a male classmate used the photos to black male her into performing sexual acts. >> we have been able to establish that there were acts unlawful acts of sexual conduct that took place during that threat that was made. >> police have so far seized more than a dozen phones and other mobile devices. investigators say more students may be implicated. criminal charges could include distributing and possessing child pornography since everyone is so young. investigators are trueing to figure out what caused part of a home to collapse. one wall of a two-story victorian home under going renovation somehow caved in preponderate debris from the crumbling home fell on to another house next door and buried a truck parked in the driveway. no one was hurt but the city has now roped off and red tagged the home. happening today parents and students plan to protest the

firing of at least two math teachers in mill valley. parents say teachers were fired after refusing to attend training sessions for a new teaching method. but the district says that was not connected to the decision to dismiss the teachers. the protest is scheduled to get under way at 7:30 this morning. last night the water district approved new water restrictions. it effects 330,000 people who live in fremont, newark and union city. under the new restrictions people can only water their lawns once a week through the end of may. there is a ban on draining and refilling swimming pools as well and hosing down driveways and sidewalks. some people at last night's meeting do not think the restrictions go far enough. >> just cut off all watering of lawns. >> the new restrictions take effect immediately.

anyone found in violation could face a fine up to $600. cal tran says it has made the necessary repairs to the new eastern span of the bay bridge. we showed you some of the cracks in the welds inside the bridge tower last may. >> they met the call. >> cal tran says it will now sandblast the inside of the tower and cover the metal with rust resistant paint. the other finishing touches include adding protective concrete fenders to limit damage if a ship runs into the bridge and installing a 52 story elevator so maintenance crews can get all the way to the top of the gnarr. virgin american airlines shutting down service. that is according to the business journal. virgin america started flying last may. the airline which is based in

burlingame says demand for service has not met expectations. the airline has not announced when the service will end but it's not taking reservations past mid may. the search for the missing malaysia airlines jet has expanded into the indian ocean. that is after pings sent to a satellite hours after the last transponder signal likely came from the missing jet. that means it could have -- >> it would be by surprised. if you are look into the waters off new jersey we would be looking off the coast of oregon. >> there are also reports coming that the jets two communication systems may have been shut down separately and possibly deliberately by someone in the cockpit. coalition of republican and democratic senator has reached a deal to extend long-term unemployment services. two million americans lost benefits when they were caught

mcdonalds being hit with seven lawsuits over wages that could all the matily effect 30,000 current and former employees. oers in california, new york, and michigan claim mcdonalds don't play employees everything that is owed. employees were not allowed to take required breaks when stores were under staffed and hours were removed from their time sheets. mcdonalds says it is looking into the claims. a teenage father behind bars accused of biting off the nose of his one-month-old baby. 18-year-old joshua cooper faces child cruelty. fairfield police received a frantic call from the child's mother yesterday saying his baby was bleeding. doctors determined the child had a skull fracture, brain hemorrhage, and a third of the nose severed. the baby is in stable condition. cooper bit his child's nose off because he was mad at the

baby's crying. family and friends mourning the loss of three brothers. nelson hamilton was shot to death near his richmond home. his death comes after his older brother earl was shot to death outside of a pinole bar in february. another brother was killed almost three years ago near a neighborhood market in richmond. >> no reason at all. nobody should die just because they live wherever they live. >> five alleged gang members have been arrested in the pinole shooting. the other two shootings remain unsolved. san francisco firefighters are still watching for flair ups after that huge fire at at & t park. demolition crews finished their work. tons of twisted metal, burned

wood, is all what is left of what was supposed to be the new recollection apartment building. videos and photos are helping them pinpoint exactly where that fire started. >> in san francisco you have a lot of people with a lot of electronic devices. there is a lot of things people can put together. >> investigators believe welding equipment may have set off the huge fire. two forecasts firefighters sufficient -- two firefighters suffered minor injuries battling that fire. dozens of farmers have received some devastating news. the santa claire rap valley water district warped them they may have to cut off their water supply if the shortage does not improve. that news could be coming within the next few weeks. the farmers could get a notice on april 1st warning there will be no more water available. >> with that said, we plan to meet with all of them, make sure they have other supplies available. >> most people will either try to rely on ground water on their property by installing a

well or revisiting a well that has been abandoned or dormant. >> 32 farms will peak up 5% of the agricultural business. this morning you can buy tickets to see the earthquakes play. the quakes will host the seattle sounders at levi stadium saturday august 2nd. tickets go on sale at 10:00 this morning. the game marks the first event to be held at the new 49ers stadium. tickets start at $45. much cheaper than what you will see to see the 49ers play. san francisco city leaders touting a plan to renovate the castro district. wider sidewalks and other improvements included in that. the project includes widening the sidewalks and installing new trees and better street lighting. neighbors voted on designs for the crosswalk at 18th and castro. the winning design featured the intersection painted with

rainbow stripes. renovations are expected to wrap up by the end of the year. most of the philadelphia airport is open again this morning but that is after a usa airways flight was forced to make an emergency landing. the front landing gear collapsed as the plane was taking off for florida. passengers and crews used the emergency slides to evacuate the plane. passengers on another plane saw the whole thing happen. >> we looked out the window. the nose of the plane was up. there were sparks. >> two passengers on the u.s. airways flight asked for medical treatment. but no serious injuries are reported. everyone was put on other flights to florida. they did arrive safely late last night. the cause of the gear collapse is still under investigation. a 16-year-old girl has been arrested for selling brownies laced with marijuana to students at hayward high school. she sold the brownies while riding the bus.

at least five students got sick. >> she was walking and she passed out. everyone ran up to her. >> the girl who sold the brownies is expected to face charges in juvenile court. officials say it appears the students that got sick knew the brownies were laced with marijuana. bart has unvailed a new proposal aimed at safety. bart is creating a smart phone app. now the free app which also comes in spanish and chinese will be available in a few months. passengers can report any unruly riders without being overheard making the call or getting up to use the intercom. the app will allow them to up load photos or send in comments. the money comes from an $800,000 state grant through a bond measure and another $100,000 in federal funds. the state of the art cameras will be installed on 80 buses and allow for video to be down

loaded remotely. time is 4:47. we want to check in with brian flores who is in for sal this morning. brian, how is it going in traffic? >> it's going good. i've been anchoring all week but this is the only thing i could think of is doing traffic today. traffic is looking pretty good out there. it is a sea of green so hopefully it stays that way for your friday morning commute. as we take a look at the bridge this morning, no problems. ten minutes across to get you from hayward to foster city. no problems as you approach the high-rise. as we look at the maps as well, contra costa county. highway 4 at antioch no problems as you approach concord. southbound 680 looking good. and quickly if alameda county no problems on 580 and 880 as you go toward nimitz freeway. as we take a look at the toll plaza, no major problems. hopefully it stays that way.

[ laughter ] >> nice job. we do have an increase in the low clouds. they are back. so today will be cooler. high clouds to the north but overall once this system goes by we will have a sunny and warmer weekend. it looks like the fog will play into a cooler forecast. pretty good little push over the bay. so look for temperatures low clouds cooler westerly breeze. so a partly cloudy. most of this will clear out by the noon hour. high pressure will build in. saturday and sunday will be okay. 40 and 50s on the temps. 54sfo. 54 because of the low cloud deck some are held up. westerly breeze or southwest fairfield at 10. this is a big conference what we had a couple days egg when it was north and east.

killed. >> i saw 20-30 people flying up in the air. >> the driver faces murder and aggravated assault charges. police say the drive was spotted going the wrong way down a runway street before the chase began. there has been another deadly knife attack in china. dispute erupted between two food owners. one person stabbed and killed the other merchant. officers eventually shot and killed him a total of six people died in connection to that knife fight. the killings come two weeks after a mass knife attack. 29 people were killed. 140 others wounded. beijing blames ethnic sprats. 4:51 is the time. two bay area men charged with making bombs. just how many explosives were found and the investigation that is rocking two cities on opposite sides of the bay.

ktvu camera was there when the oakland police and several other law enforcement agencies made their first arrest in a program that started yesterday. marshalls tried to pull over three men. the men took off. heavily armed officer ever tracked down the suspects and took them into custody. the marshalls say they found a loaded weapon in the car. oakland police may be planning to scrap a system to detect when shots have been fired within city limits. now the san francisco chronicle reports the shot spotter system cost the oakland police department $264,000 a year. the system mats the location when shots are fired and sends an alert to available officers. police say anybodies already call when they hear gunfire and the funds could be better spent on other crime fighting tools including a police helicopter. two bay area men facing bomb making and weapons charges after terrifying discoveries on both sides of the bay. the first was made in a quiet neighborhood in pacifica not

far from the golf course. federal investigators say they found 600 explosives and barrels full of bomb making chemicals inside a home on seaside drive. two children live in that home and neighbors are stunned. >> i heard the officer say how many pounds do you think is in there? i'm like oh my gosh. he had enough stuff there to blow out half the neighborhood. >> her neighbor faces multiple charges. across the bay police also arrested shawn gunther. they found explosives, guns, and drugs in his home. at this point they do not believe the two men were planning a terrorist attack. they have recovered an eighth body from the rubble of
