it's all because one girl broke her silence at adams middle school. police say she told an april dult about what was happening. she claims a boy was using inappropriate photos of her to blackmail her into engaging in sexual acts on campus. that adult told police who started to confiscate cell phones and interview teenagers. they know of at least a dozen boys allegedly sexting. it wasn't just happening here but at brisco and excelsior. police say the teens are facing serious consequences. everyone involved is between the age of 12 and 14. >> we have been able to establish that there were acts, unlawful acts of sexual conduct that took place during that threat that was made. >> reporter: it's too soon to know who will be charged in this case. that's something that police are talking to the contra costa county's d.a. about. we're hoping to learn more about school officials once the school day gets underway.

back to you. 7:04. happening right now -- a group of students continues to occupy the administration building at san francisco's city college. this is video we shot at city college this morning of people who spent the whole night outside the administration building. they say there are another 15 students inside the building. that follows a violent confrontation between protesters and police yesterday. >> what are you doing! what are you doing! >> this is youtube video of yesterday. the protesters are demanding the resignation of special trustee, robert agrella, and a reversal of a new payment policy requiring payment in full when students sign up. >> we wanted to bring attention to the fact that we feel that our school and our ability to have equal access to an education is being attacked. >> some of the students say

this afternoon, they will join a rally at san francisco city hall. the rally is to show support for david campos to reinstate the board of trustees. last year, the board was stripped of its power when the special trustee was involved. we'll keep you updated. general david petraeus is visiting stanford university. he's scheduled to speak at 4:00 p.m. about the international security challenges the united states faces. protesters will be there and plan to accuse him of war crimes. today's public appearance comes two years after petraeus resigned as the director of the cia after admitting to an affair with his biographer. 7:06. this weekend, volunteers in santa clara county will mark a tragic anniversary. it has been two years since

high school cheerleader sierra lamar vanished by heading to a bus stop. antolin garcia is charged with her kidnapping and murder. her body has not been found. volunteers have spent the last two years looking for her remains or anything that might provide a clue in this case. they will hold a special ceremony this weekend. the convicted felon accused of trying to run down two san francisco police officers is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon. the surveillance video showed the arrest of 50-year-old jeffrey ruano at a san jose gas station early sunday morning. investigators say he tried to back his car into two officers the day before in san bernardino. officer adam shaw was shot in the arm during that incident. but san francisco police say it's possible shaw's partner may have accidentally wounded him during the chaos. investigators are trying to determine what caused part of a home to collapse in west

oakland. it happened last night on myrtle street, not far from the high school. firefighters say one wall of a two-story home undergoing renovations somehow caved in. the debris from the crumbling home fell onto another house next door and buried a truck parked in the driveway. ed the good news you -- the good news, nobody was hurt. the city has roped off and red tagged the house. for the second year in a row, fewer teachers in sonoma county are getting layoff notices. the press democrat reports 20 teaching jobs in sonoma county could be eliminated this fall but that's well below the 70 pink slips issued last year. officials say a stabilized state budget and the passage of proposition 30 are responsible for the drop in layoffs. the american lung association recently gave the city of sonoma an f in its report card of restricting second-hand smoke. now the city may be trying to improve its grade. the sonoma city council is

considering banning smoking in its historic downtown plaza. the mayor is also considering outlawing smoking in the city's multiunit housing complexes. san francisco police are handing out a lot more traffic tickets in response to a growing safety problem. the city is dealing with a disturbing increase in the number of people getting hit and killed or injured by cars while walking in the street. police are responding with a crackdown on five specific traffic violations running a red light, speeding, failure to halt at a stop sign, violating a pedestrian right-of-way and failure to yield while making a left or u-turn. 7:09. this morning, you can buy tickets to see the earthquakes play at the new 49ers stadium. the quakes will host the sounders at levi stadium on saturday, august 2nd. tickets go on sale at 10:00 this morning. the game marks the first event to be held at the new 49er stadium. tickets start at $45 which is

much cheaper than what you would pay to go see the san francisco 49ers play. a new campaign in contra costa county uses some eye- catching images to encourage parents to reduce the number of sugary drinks they give their children. the sugar bites campaign will be used in a series of bilingual ads on platforms, billboards and in store windows. the goal, to reduce tooth decay, obesity and type 2 diabetes in children. health officials say it's a fight against marketing tactics that trick parents into believing that juice drinks are a healthy alternative for kids. they say most juice drinks actually contain little fruit, unnecessary calories and a lot of sugar. firefighters rush to a home in hayward last night. coming up how a fire scene became a crime scene. and a diplomatic hail mary.

we're getting new information about the search for the missing malaysia airlines jet. officials say the search has expanded into the indian ocean. that's after u.s. analysts say pings sent to a satellite hours after the last transponder signal likely came from the missing jet. it could have ended up thousands of miles from its last confirmed contact over

minute. before their meeting, they said they were glad to have the opportunity to meet before sunday's referendum in crimea. it's a controversial vote on whether they want to remain a part of ukraine or join with russia. president obama's ordered a review of how the united states deports people. he says he wants to make immigration enforcement more humane. he adds that he sees the pain when families are separated. here in the bay area, as in the rest of the country, we've seen many protests against immigration policies. president obama has called for immigration reform but says congress is unwilling to make changes. it's a high-tech tool designed to keep students safe in the event of a campus emergency. a school district here in the bay area is among the first in the nation to have this tool. benicia police obtained the new state-of-the-art campus security system in response to the growing number of school

about the identity of a pg&e worker, you can call the utilities dispatch center. 7:16. a traffic alert for drivers in san jose. three freeway ramps on the 280/880 interchange will be shut down tonight near the stevens creek exit. ramps will close at 9:00 p.m. and reopen at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. crews will be paving and striping a new roadway east of the ramps during the closure. traffic will be redirected onto the new roadway when the ramps reopen. another traffic alert, the sluggish rush hour between walnut creek and san ramon could move faster for you if you are willing to pay. the first toll lanes in contra costa county are expected to open on interstate 680 by mid- 20 16. the $45 million project will create 23 miles of fastrack express lanes that will allow solo drivers to use the carpool lane obviously for a fee. construction is expected to begin early next year and i

not pay employees fg they are owed -- everything they are owe. the california lawsuit said employees are not reallowed to take -- are not allowed to take brakes and hours were removed from their time cards. a coalition of republican and democratic senators have reached a deal to extend long- term unemployment insurance. it's estimated that about 2 million americans lost benefits when they were hut at the end of december. the -- cut at the end of december. the compromise would make some changes to the program such as people not collecting unemployment if they earned a million dollars the previous year. the senate could vote on the deal in a few weeks. it's unclear whether the republican-controlled house will support it. facebook's ceo mark zuckerberg was society outraged over a report about nsa spying that he called president obama. the report stated that the national security agency used phony facebook servers to

moving on, the bay bridge toll plaza, this started to pick up a few minutes ago. still not too bad. compared to other days. 20 to 25-minute drive time from oakland into san francisco. that traffic heads all the way as you reach towards yerba buena yerba buena and treasure island. highway 4 towards the willow pass grade. typical traffic. southbound 242, 680 starting to pick up as you approach walnut creek and approach 24. let's go back to the desk. thank you, brian. overnight electrical fire tipped hayward police to a large grow. about an hour ago, officers started to remove boxes full the pot plants. katie utehs has been on the scene and has more on what neighbors are saying about the growth. katie? >> reporter: good morning, ken. we spoke with a neighbor who says she has no idea she had no idea what was happening in this house. it's rather unassuming but in addition to the marijuana pulled from this house. we could see in the garage that there were large stacks of planting pots. the house has been secured by city workers.

here's a look at the boxes of marijuana narcotics officers removed around 6:45 this morning. three boxes filled the back of a pickup truck. but it was a 911 call from someone who spotted a fire on the roof of the home in the 23500 block of stonewall avenue that tipped police. responding firefighters broke through the side door of the garage to gain access and put out the fire and they stumbled upon the grow around midnight. neighbors say they had no idea what was going on next door. >> i'm pretty surprised since, like, we never see anybody come in or go out of the house. it seems pretty quiet. pretty shocking to hear that our neighbors were growing that. >> reporter: however, others tells us they've seen young people frequenting the home but it didn't look like anyone lived there. they did think this was a little suspicious, that neighbor at least. police have not said who owned the home. we take it back out here live, you can see the corner where

the power connects to the house. the power has been turned off at this point. but that's where the fire broke out and investigators say it does not appear the line was bypassed but the strain on the current required to grow the marijuana and the setup inside may have caused enough strain on the system to spark the initial fire. the investigation is ongoing. police have removed all of the marijuana from the home, secured it, boarded it up, completely. for now, live in hayward, katie utehs, ktvu channel 2 news. a man is in the hospital and a gunman is on the loose after a shooting in san francisco's bayview district. the shooting happened shortly before 9:00 last night. officers say when they arrived, they found a 26-year-old man who had been shot in the back and the arm. he was taken to the hospital and listed in stable condition. police are now looking for the gunman. 7:34. a teenaged father is behind bars in solano county accused of biting the nose off his 1-

month-old baby. 18-year-old joshua cooper faces child cruelty charges. fairfield police received a frantic call from the child's mother yesterday saying her baby was bleeding. doctors determined the child had a skull fracture, brain hemorrhage and the third of his nose was severed. the baby is at oakland children's hospital in stable condition. investigators say cooper bit his child's nose off because he was mad at the baby's crying. it san francisco firefighters are still watching out for possible flareups from the huge fire near at&t park. late yesterday, demolition crews finished all of their work allowing firefighters to search for any remaining hot spots from tuesday's fire. tons of twisted metal burned wood and sheetrock are all that's left of what was supposed to be the latest apartment complex in the city's mission bay neighborhood. investigators say video and pictures from the public are helping them pinpoint exactly where the fire started. >> in san francisco, you have a lot of people with a lot of

electronic devices, there's a lot of things they can put together. >> investigators believe welding may have set off the huge fire. two firefighters suffered minor injuries battling that blaze. a 16-year-old girl has been arrested for selling brownies laced with marijuana to students at hayward high school. the girl is accused of selling the brownies wednesday morning while riding the bus. at least five students got sick. >> she was walking and passed out and everybody that was walking around the area ran up to her. >> the girl who sold the brownies is expected to face charges in juvenile court. investigators say it appears the students who got sick knew the brownies were laced with marijuana. oakland police may be planning to scrap a system that detects when shots have been fired within city limits. >> the san francisco chronicle reports the shot spotter system cost the oakland police

department 260,000 a year. the system mans the location when shots are fired and sends an alert to available officers. police say neighbors already call when they hear gunfire. the funds could be better spent on other crime-fighting tools, including a police helicopter. a ktvu camera was there as the u.s. marshal office, oakland police and several other law enforcement agencies made their first arrests in a program that started yesterday. marshals tried to pull over three men but the men took off. heavily-armed officers tracked down the suspects and took them into custody. marshals say they found a loaded weapon in the vehicle. 7:37. a popular airline carrier known for its low fares and entertainment options is pulling out of san jose airport. ktvu's janine de la vega joins us live from san jose and you've talked to employees to learn why virgin american is ending its service there. >> reporter: apparently there wasn't enough demand.

those employees tell me they are disappointed. virgin american has only operated out of san jose for less than a year. many travelers are surprised to hear that they will be leaving in the next month and a half. the last day virgin american will fly out of san jose is may 14th. flight attendants told me they received an e-mail late last night from the ceo. the company says demand in the market wasn't meeting expectations. there was a lot of fanfare and excitement last may when virgin launched service offering daily flights to los angeles. at that time, richard branson told us he wanted travelers in the south bay to experience the entertainment system did, comfortable seating and competitive pricing. there was tough competition. other airlines that fly to l.a. started to add flights and cut prices. travelers say they will miss virgin. >> just like jetblue. their planes are nice. they have the in-flight tv and

all of that. >> reporter: will it be missed? >> i will miss it but i will fly jetblue. they don't fly here. i will be flying to san francisco. >> reporter: virgin american says employees who work out of san jose are being offered equivalent positions out of san francisco. the airport has been trying to attract more carriers despite the news, they say the traffic continues to increase for the 13th straight month in a row. virgin said it will concentrate on the services at sfo and offering established flights. coming up in the next hour of "mornings on 2," you will hear the reaction from the san jose airport's spokesperson. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. while virgin american is pulling out of san jose, hawaiian airlines just announced it will expand its service to the bay area. starting may 16th. hawaiian will offer daily flights between san jose and honolulu. it's also putting bigger jets

on its routes to honolulu and maui to oakland. that change will take place in mid-june. some students at uc berkeley are launching a campaign to try to get president obama to deliver the commencement address. the students are working on a form 58 invitation to the president. janet napolitano, they say is an ally. the obama administration is proposing new rules designed to protect students at colleges from not being able to pay off their debt. all schools for profit or not that don't comply would lose access to the federal state aid programs. the new rules are set to take effect in 2016.

more than 90 new officers will join the california highway patrol today. an official graduation and swearing-in ceremony is set to take place at the chp academy in west sacramento. for the past 27 weeks, they've been undergoing grueling classes and training to become officers. many of those officers will be heading to bay area chp offices. 7:41. improving b.a.r.t. safety through a couple of cell phone key strokes. b.a.r.t. is creating a smartphone app that allows riders to text discreet messages to police. the free app encourages reporting on unruly riders without being overheard making the call or getting up to use the intercom. >> this is something our riders have been becking for. they dash begging for -- have been begging for. they say they want to be able to text quietly. we're just delivering on what they want. >> they will be able to upload

7:44. happening right now -- parents and students are protesting the firing of at least two math teachers at tamalpais high school. i want to show you some live pictures from the protest. parents say the teachers were fired after refusing to attend training sessions for a new teaching method. but the district says that was not connected to the decision to dismiss the teachers. they have not commented on the actual reason for the firing of the teachers. the protest is scheduled to continue for about another 15 minutes until 8:00 this morning. last night, the alameda county water district approved new water restrictions for hundreds of thousands of bay area water users. it affects about 330,000 people

who live in fremont, newark and union city. under the new restrictions, people can only water their lawns once a week through the end of may and then twice a week from june through september. there is a ban on draining and refilling swimming pools and hosing down driveways and sidewalks. some people at last night's meeting don't think the restrictions go far enough. >> cut off all watering of lawns. who gives a hoot about green lawns when we're running out of water? >> anyone found in violation could face a fine up to $600. in the meantime, dozens of farmers in santa clara county have received devastating news tied to california's drought. the santa clara valley water district has warned them they may have to cut off their water supply if the water shortage crisis does not improve and that bad news could be coming in just the next few weeks. the farmers could get a notice on april 1st warning them there

he wants to let them know that everything is okay. he's greeting parents in case they have concerns. we got our hands on the letter that was sent home to parents explaining what was going on. this all stems from allegations that a teenaged boy here at adallas was allegedly inappropriately using photos of a girl to blackmail her to engage in sexual acts. she told an adult what was happening. that launched an investigation. police found out 12 boys were involved in this at all three middle school schools in brentwood and at excelsior school. >> i think as adults, we all have the responsibility to continue to remind children that their online interactions have realized consequences. >> reporter: we were not told whether or not these children were suspended but the superintendent would only tell

truck parked in the driveway. no one was hurt. the city has now opened off and red tagged that house. a railroad project in east contra costa county is designed to help amtrak passenger trains move through the area more quickly. work crews are installing ties to add a second rail along a section. track extending west from vintage parkway in oakley. it's part of a larger project to improve tracks between oakley and port chicago. currently amtrak has to share a single track with freight trains, meaning one train has to pull onto a siding to allow another one to pass. with double tracks in place, they expect improved service on the san joaquin line. for the second year in a row, fewer teachers in sonoma county are getting layoff notices. the press democrat reports 20 teaching jobs in sonoma county could be eliminated this fall but that's well below the 70 pink slips issued last year. officials say a stabilized

state budget and the passage of proposition 30 are responsible for the drop in layoffs. the american lung association recently gave the city of sonoma an f in its report card of restricting second-hand smoke. now the city may be trying to improve that grade. the sonoma city council is considering banning smoking in its historic downtown plaza and the mayor is also considering outlawing smoking in the multi- unit housing complexes. san francisco police are handing out a lot more traffic tickets in response to a growing safety problem. the city is currently dealing with a disturbing increase in the number of people getting hurt and killed by cars while walking the street. police are responding with a crackdown on five specific traffic violation, running a red light, speeding, failure to halt at a stop sign, violating a pedestrian right-of-way and failure to yield while making a left or u-turn. 8:08. this morning, you can buy tickets to see the earthquakes

play at the new 49ers' stadium. the quakes will host the seattle sounders at levi stadium on saturday, august 2nd. tickets go on sale at 10:00 this morning. the game marks the very first event to be held at the new 49ers' stadium. tickets start at $45 which is much cheaper than what you will have to pay to see the san francisco 49ers play at that stadium. san francisco city leaders are promoting a plan to renovate the castro district. the street scape project includes widening sidewalks installing new trees and better street lighting. neighbors voted on designs for the crosswalk at 18th and castro and the winning design you see there features the intersection painted with rainbow stripes. renovations are expected to wrap up by the end of the year. a new campaign in contra costa county uses some pretty eye-catching images to try to encourage parents to reduce the number of sugary drinks they give their children. the sugar bites campaign will be used in a series of biling

time is 8:13. we're getting new information now about the search for that missing malaysia airlines jet. officials say the search has now expanded into the indian ocean. that's after u.s. analysts say pings sent to a satellite hours after the last transponder signal likely came from that missing jet. and that means it could have ended up thousands of miles from its last confirmed contact over southeast asia. at a news conference this morning, malaysia's transportation minister confirmed the expanded search area. >> together with our international help, we're pushing eastern into the south china sea and further into the indian ocean. we want nothing more than to find the plane as quickly as

approach the high rise. finally as we take a look at 280 in san jose looking pretty good as you head towards 17. 8:31 back to the desk. an overnight electrical fire tipped hayward police to a marijuana grow. a truckload of plants were removed from the home. katie utehs has more on what neighbors say was happening around the house. katie? >> reporter: good morning, ken. we spoke with a next door neighbor who never suspected that marijuana was growing in this house behind me. take a look to the yourself. it's rather unassuming. inside the garage we saw a stack of plant pots as well as some of the marijuana that's been boarded up. the house is secured by city workers. let me show you the boxes of marijuana narcotics officers removed around 6:45 this morning. three boxes filled the back of a pickup truck. but it was a 911 call from someone who spotted a fire on the roof of the home in the

23500 block of stonewall avenue that tipped police to the grow. responding firefighters broke through the side door of the garage to gain access to the home and stumbled upon the grow around midnight. >> at midnight. i did hear some fire trucks. but i thought it was probably someone was sick and they just came to pick them up but never expected that. >> reporter: other neighbors tell us they've seen young people frequenting the home and were not surprised there was a marijuana grow inside but it didn't look like anyone lived here. back out live, i want toe somehow the roof line. this is where the connects to the -- where the power connects to the home. it was what alerted firefighters and police to the 911 call. investigators say it doesn't appear the wiring was jumped but that the strain on the power for the grow could have caused the electrical fire.

at this opportunity, they have removed, like i said, several boxes of marijuana. still investigating whether or not this was a legal grow or not. live in hayward, katie utehs, ktvu channel 2 news. a man is not hospital and a gunman is still on the loose after a shooting in san francisco's bayview district. the shooting happened shortly before 9:00 last night on qesada avenue. officers say when they arrived, they found a 26-year-old man shot in the back and arm. he was taken to the hospital and was last listed in stable condition. police are looking for the gunman. a teenaged father is behind bars in solano county accused of biting the nose off his 1- month-old baby. 18-year-old joshua cooper faces child cruelty charges. fairfield police received a frantic call from the child's mother yesterday saying her baby was bleeding. doctors determined the child had a skull fracture, brain hemorrhage and a third of the nose severed. the baby is currently at

oakland children's hospital in stable condition. investigators say cooper bit his child's nose off because he was mad at the baby's crying. this morning, san francisco firefighters are still watching out for possible flareups from this week's huge fire near at&t park. late yesterday, demolition crews finished their work allowing firefighters to search for any remaining hot spots from tuesday's fire. tons of twisted metal, burned wood and sheetrock are all what's left of what was supposed to be the latest apartment complex in the mission bay neighborhood. investigators say video and pictures from the public with are helping them pinpoint exactly where the fire started. >> in san francisco, you have a lot of people with a lot of electronic devices. there's a lot of things people can put together. >> investigators believe welding may have set off the huge fire. two firefighters suffered minor injuries battling the flames. a 16-year-old girl has been arrested for selling brownies laced with marijuana to students at hayward high school. the girl is accused of selling

the brownies wednesday morning while riding the bus at least five students got sick. >> she was walking and passed out and like everybody that was passing around the area ran up to her. >> the girl who sold the brownies expected to face charges in juvenile court. investigators say it appears the students who got sick knew the brownies were laced with marijuana. oakland police may be planning to scrap a system that detects when shots have been fired within city limits. >> the chronicle reports the shot spotter system costs the oakland police department 264,000 a year. the system maps the location when the shots are fired and send and alert to available officers but police say neighbors already call when they hear a gunfire. the funds could be better spent on other crime fighting tools, including a police helicopter. there is a new operation to try to predues violent crime in oakland and in particular east

oakland. a ktvu camera was there as law enforcement agencies made their first arrest in a program that started yesterday. marshals tried to pull over three men. but the men took off. heavily-armed officers tracked down the suspects and took them into custody. the marshals say they found a loaded weapon be -- weapon in the car. virgin american known for low fares and entertainment options it pulling out of san jose airport. janine de la vega is live in san jose where you just talked to airport officials about this decision. i'm sure they are not happy about it. janine? >> reporter: yeah, that's right. virgin america's last day working out of san jose will be may 14th. an airport spokeswoman told me they are disappointed but they are already thinking of a way to lure the airline back in the future. virgin american released this statement saying "despite our steady improving performance, demand in the market has not

met expectations we've made the decision to focus on more lucrative long-haul flying options." the company indicated it became difficult when multiple airlines started to add service to los angeles and offered competitive prices. there was a lot of fanfare and excitement. richard branson told us if things went well, he hoped to expand service. the airport has been trying to attract more carriers. >> ridership was going up but it is just a highly competitive route. you know, we had a lot of service between here and l.a. just excess capacity. >> we fly virgin all of the time. it's disappointing for sure. it's usually between them and southwest. it may give southwest the edge to up their prices if they don't have the immediate competition here. >> reporter: those travelers

were surprised to hear the news and told us they weren't willing to drive to san francisco to fly virgin out of there. the company says virgin employees who work out of san jose are being offered equivalent positions. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thanks, janine. while virgin american is pulling out of san jose, hawaiian airlines just announced that it will expand its service to that airport. starting may 16th, hawaiian will offer daily flights between san jose and honolulu. it's putting bigger jets on the route to honolulu and maui from oakland. that happens in june. some students in uc berkeley are thinking big. they have launched a campaign to try to get president obama to deliver the commencement address last year. they are working anen invitation to the pro president and they have an influential ally, janet napolitano, who

served in his cabinet as homeland security secretary. the obama administration is proposing rules for pro fost colleges. it would -- pro-profit colleges. new rules take effect in 2016. more than 90 new officers will join the california highway patrol today. an official graduation and ceremonying-in ceremony is set to take place at 10:00 this morning. an hour and 15 minutes at the chp academy in west sacramento. for the past 27 weeks, they've been undergoing sometimes grueling, training and classes to become officers. and many of those officers will be stationed right here in the bay area. improving b.a.r.t. safety through a couple of key

teachers at tamal pius high school. parents say the teachers are fired after refusing to attend training sessions for a new teaching method but the district says that was not connected to the decision to dismiss the teachers. >> the math department looked at the program and these new teachers did sot training and decide -- did some training and decided they didn't want it adopted in the classroom. why is it that these teachers who didn't wouldn't adopt it are now gone? >> the district has not said why the teachers were fired. several parents in contra costa county are stunned. they dropped off their kids this morning amid a sexting scandal at four middle schools. it all started with allegations of blackmail by cell phone. our reporter is live in brentwood with all of the details. christina? >> reporter: well, again, the superintendent was here less than half an hour ago greeting parents this morning.

he's left. but he told me these letters went home explaining what happened and he wants to let them know they are working to prevent this from happening again. they found out yesterday that a teenaged boy at adallas middle school was allegedly -- adams middle school was allegedly using photos of a middle school girl to blackmail her into sexual acts with him. that girl confided in an adult. so far, they know of a dozen boys allegedly sexting. it wasn't just happening here, it was happening at brisco, excelsior, byron. >> you work hard to live in a community to be protect as much as you can. >> we've handed out severe discipline for the incidents that have taken place. we think it's important to

teach students so that these things never happen again. >> reporter: and back out here live, all students are back in class but the superintendent wants them to know that there are real-life consequences to the things they post on social media an and what they -- and what they share on their cell phones. police are still discussing charges. they are consulting the district attorney general's office to determine whether that will -- the district attorney's office to determine whether that will happen. both lyft and uber are expanding their insurance coverage to include drivers who have not yet picked up passengers. current coverage only applies to drivers who actually have a customer in their vehicle. the move is scene as heading off pressure and criticism from regulators and cabbies. this extension comes after an uber driver is accused of hitting and killing a 6-year-

old girl in san francisco on new year's eve. the girl's family is suing uber claiming the driver was waiting to pick up a ride request. hundred of thousands of bay area water users are facing strict new water restrictions. the alameda county water district approved the rules which affect 330,000 people who live in fremont, newark and union city. uged the new restrictions people can only water their lawns once a week through the end of may and then twice a week from june through september. there is a ban on draining and refilling swimming pools and hosing down sidewalks. some people at last night's meeting don't think the restrictions go far enough. >> just cut off all watering of lawns. who gives a hoot about green lawns when we're running out of water? >> the new restrictions take effect immediately. anyone found in violation could face a fine up to $600.

know which bands will be taking the stage at this year's bottle rock festival in napa valley. festival organizers posted the lineup on their website just about an hour ago. some of the notable performers, the cure, outkast, ll church, l ll cool j and heart. dozens of other bands are scheduled to perform at the end of may. organizers are expecting more than 100,000 music fans to attend this year's event. last year's inaugural festival pumped millions of dollars into the local economy but there were some financial questions about how the festival was run and also some residents were opposed because of the huge traffic jams created on city streets. dozens of farmers in santa clara valley have received devastating news tied to the drought. the water district has warned them them that they may have to cut off their water supply

if the water situation doesn't improve. farmers could get a notice on april 1st, warning them no more water available. >> with that said, we plan to meet with all of them, make sure they have other supplies available. >> most people will try to rely on ground water on their properties by installing a well or revisiting a well that has sort of been abandoned or dormant. >> the water district says 32 santa clara farms would be affected. those farms make up about 5% of the local agriculture business. president obama is hosting the irish prime minister at the white house today in an early st. patrick's celebration. we have new video of president obama and the prime minister meeting in the oval office just a little over an hour ago. the two men then attend the traditional st. patrick's lunch at the capitol. in the evening, the president and the first lady will host a st. patrick's day reception at the white house. downtown san francisco will be all decked out in green
