in trouble at school, rob. >> reporter: the latest word is the 94-year-old woman who lived in this fire ravaged home is in critical condition. but she is still alive thanks to three brave high school students and a neighbor. three seniors at california high school in san ramon forever linked by an act of heroism. >> we saw somebody that needed help so we helped them. >> reporter: three students peter cavariotes, peter and garren said they were in a car near by and went to the house. >> it was smoking, i never saw anything like that. >> reporter: they went to the backyard and saw a 71-year-old woman and they walk her to the front. but her mother was inside the burning home. they saw a neighbor who busted open the front door. >> they came up there.

told me to get out of way and i got out of the way. >> there was so much smoke it was overwhelming. we saw an old lady sitting in the chair with her dog leash and the dog right underneath her. >> peter pushed the chair over. we picked her up and put the chair on the side of the street. as we were taking her out, she said she was burning. that was crazy in my mind. but i just kept telling her you're not burning, you're not burning. >> reporter: the woman was air lifted. >> she could not have lasted more than a 1-1/2. >> it's scary now that i think about it but in the moment definitely wasn't thinking at all. it was just that got to help the lady. >> just looking out for people. >> reporter: the dog that was inside is okay. the young men are receiving much attention but there is one glitch. apparently when the boys drove to the fire they were supposed to be in class.

so along with all the praise, they say they're also facing detention. reporting live in san ramon, rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. there was a dramatic cliff rescue at san jose's park today to save a fallen hiker. news2 was ahead as emergency crews pulled the woman from the cliff. the victim was unconscious when they arrived and through the entire rescue. we're told that though that the woman is expected to survive. no word yet on her name or how she fell from the rock. police say they seized guns and drugs during a raid in east oakland this afternoon. the bust took place at 90th avenue near bancroft avenue and was a joint operation. officers served a search warrant just after 2:00. police have not released details on the specific items taken but we're told at least eight men were detained and the search was still going on as of

late this afternoon. >> to some respect it's a very large operation that is constantly evolving and changing dynamic that's in this city. particularly the changing criminal dynamic is what we're interesting in. >> reporter: oakland police also say they placed a school in the area on lock down as a precaution. police activity in pacifica is attracting attention near pedro point. authorities roped off a home where a man is apparently barricading himself. police blocked off san pedro avenue. a man in a near by surf shop told us the guy inside the house had some sort of an emotional issue and some people outside the home were distraught family members. a helicopter crash in downtown seattle killed four and left a man critically

injured. >> reporter: witnesses describe a few harrowing moments after the helicopter took off and the chaotic scene when it came crashing down on cars below. two people on board the komo helicopter. the resulting fire ball spread to three cars. a man who was in one of those cars is in critical condition. >> something told me to look up. and i looked up and i saw just the chopper just coming falling out of the sky. and i just dropped my phone, because i was in such shock. >> i saw the whole street light up on fire. and a huge smoke cloud come up and 50 feet of gasoline fire. >> it was kind of chaotic there for a few minutes. you can see from these pictures just how close the cash site is to the space

needle. today the ntsb is on scene as head of the investigation. agents are looking into all possible causes for the crash including mechanical failure and weather. the photographer killed in today's crash phil straussman had retired not long ago. but had recently come back so he could work with his son who is also a photographer there. a san francisco man pleaded not guilty to charges of trying to run down two police officers. jeffrey ruano was arranged on charges of using his car as a deadly weapon in an incident that ended with a policeman suffering a gunshot wound to his upper arm on march 10th. san francisco police say they were unable to locate the bullet and at this point, ruano is not being charged in connection with the shooting. police in san jose are on the search for a killing after a man was found shot to death inside a home. it happened around 9:40 last

night just north of the blossom hill onramp. people who live there say it's normally a quiet neighborhood. people say there was a substantial marijuana grow inside the house. police though aren't commenting. but this afternoon, crews removed a smart meter which measures power use and is often tampered with at marijuana grow operations. neighbors called the father and son who lived at the house regular normal folks but did see a lot of coming and going at all hours. i noticed a lot of activity going on. as far as different vehicles coming in and out of the house. at this hour, police have not released the name of the victim only that he's believed to have been between 20 to 30 years old. a castro valley man is now in custody in the deadly shooting of his wife after a surprise surrender to police. the man hunt began for 46-year- old mi last friday. that's when the body of 45-year-

old yung was found by the 14- year-old's daughter. just after 10:30 last night he surrendered to campus police at cal state east bay in hayward. >> we also did locate his vehicle near by the campus as well. so that is now in our possession. however the outstanding weapon is still unlocated. the university officials tell ktvu that he has no known connection to the school. investigators say they responded to the family's home three times in 2009 on domestic violence calls. to some they are precious pieces of history. others say san jose's three domed movie theaters should make way for new development. tonight the city council is meeting to decide their fate. noelle walker is live now at city hall and talked with the mayor a short time ago. >> reporter: the mayor said he's probably one of the two in san jose who has not gone to the domed theater, and he also says that he's not sure how long that part of its past will

be here in the future. the theaters are remnants of a bye gone era. mary poppins was the movie featured back when people did not go to the theater. bryan grayson is trying to save a bit of history. more than 250 people signed a petition to save the domed theaters on winchester boulevard. >> the worse fear is all of the domes will be torn down. and another type of development will go in and it'll be very one of those bland. >> reporter: today the city council will look into seeking historic designation. >> they're not very old. and i know they're probably not that historic but i know people

love them. >> reporter: there is sentimental attachments for generations of families with shared memories here. >> i'm just going to miss this place if it does go but i'm glad that it's still here for them. >> reporter: so the people who are trying to preserve those domes say they just want to try to save at least one dome to incorporate it into any future development. reporting live, noelle walker, ktvu news. today taps are running way after a day without water because of a water main break. it happened last night at 46th avenue or 46th street and lotton avenue. it took 10 hours of careful digging around underground power lines to get to that broken pipe. 27 customers including emerson elementary school were left without water during the repairs. >> i have a 3 -month-old baby and a 1-year-old. our hands are full, luckily our

neighbors have water and they let me fill up a pitcher. >> reporter: the pool turned swimmers away for lack of running water. they turned the water back on at 1:30 this afternoon. a conservative coalition is reviewing thousands of tossed out -- the new law allows transgender students to choose the bathrooms in after school activities that match their gender identity. county elections officials said that 270 signatures were unvalid. >> who knows whether their signatures may have been invalidated so we're trying to get to the bottom of that. >> reporter: the reviews are taking place behind closed doors. the law allows referendum supporters to see the actual

signatures along with election officials. governor brown signed the transgender student bill last year. it's the first law of its kind any where in the country. the first time since democrats lost their supermajority in the senate, the republicans blocked the bill. republicans objected to it making it an urgent measure putting it into effect right away instead of waiting until next year. some also said that the bill is unnecessary. >> so if there's already a provision in current law providing for the disclosure of donors, the real question is why do we need this bill. >> senate democrats lost their supermajority after the conviction of wright on perjury charges and the indict of calderon on corruption charges. the drawing for one of the

developing news out of berkeley now. where we have new information on the evacuation of a hotel over concerns of hazardous materials. police now tell us the material in question was part of a suicide at the berkeley city club under rant avenue. officers are not saying what type of material they discovered but they do say it is being removed from that building. so far no word on the name of the person who died. also durant avenue remains closed at this hour in the area of elswor -- elsworth street. john sasaki is here now and tells us one step involves an old fashion letter, the other a modern day online approach. john-- >> reporter: frank, this is a

dear john letter you do not want to receive. it's a letter that richmond police want to send homeowners to say that their car was seen in a high prostitution area. two areas most affected are residential and commercial zone on ohio avenue and much of 23rd street in downtown. police will be doing what they can to publicly shame the johns they've arrested. that means their faces could appear on the department's twitter and facebook account. men like these were busted last year. just hanging around in that area can get someone to report your license plate which could cause police to send one of those dear john letters home. >> when you get arrested it becomes public record any way. to put a picture out of somebody that has been arrested for soliciting it. i don't forsee us holding back on us doing that. >> also possible is exposing prostitutes such as this woman busted last month who is 61

years old. but officers say the young teenagers they bust who are likely trafficked will get much needed services. john sasaki. fremont police say they are trying to determine if a string of burglaries all in one afternoon are linked. this house on cherrywood avenue is one of four that thieves broke into last tuesday. a rash of crimes is puzzling because home burglaries are down 31% in the city from 2012 to last year. they say the best defense is communication. >> well go out, we'll take a burglary report and we'll find out that a neighbor actually saw something suspicious earlier in the day and didn't report it. >> people who live in the area say it may be time to get their neighborhood watch groups back up and running. >> the reverent jesse jackson is in the bay area to shine a light on what he calls the virtual absence of african americans in boardrooms, top management jobs and financial

possible joint opportunities. pretty chilly out there this morning. one of the cooler days we've seen in a while. i think tomorrow morning is going to be chilly as well. in the same spots this morning. like the north bay i think you will see it again tomorrow morning. these were the highs from today. 72 in fairfield. 76 in antioch. 72 in morgan hill. so a nice looking day. kind of where they were yesterday. a little warmer. but temperatures tomorrow are really going to warm up. tomorrow is the warmest day of the week. so we're going to see temperatures tomorrow get back into the mid- and maybe even upper 70s. there's no fog along the coast right now. if you come in real close along the avenues there's no fog. there was some fog a while ago but the winds really cleared it out. they are in san francisco airport. we have strong wind. for the most part 14 miles per hour in the oakland airport sustained winds, 14 that's pretty good. 13 in napa. the san francisco report has been blowing 18 to 20 all day. right now they're at 18 miles per hour sustained winds. that's a spring breeze. as we go into the next 48 hours

we're transitioning into the official beginning of spring which is on thursday. overnight lows 38 in napa. 40 in vallejo. if you had frost this morning you might see more tomorrow morning. i don't think fog along the coast. maybe some patches north. currently at san francisco you're at 64 degrees. san francisco tomorrow for forecast high. you're going to get back into the upper 60s and low 70s. downtown san francisco a beautiful day tomorrow. it's going to look a lot like this with pretty significant winds out underneath the golden gate bridge which is what you expect this time of year. so the high pressure is going to start pushing the air down. when air sinks it warms. that makes tomorrow the warmest day of the week with temperatures looking like this. 75 in the antioch. so temperatures definitely on the increase. 76 in san jose. and the five day forecast with the bay area weekend in view. there you have it. plenty of sunshine, with temperatures kind of topping out tomorrow and then working
