here will now think twice before hiring strangers off the street without first asking for references. live, patti lee, ktvu channel 2 news. new information now on a crash in the east bay that claimed a man's life. tonight a 19-year-old is accused of causing the crash while speeding drunk. that teen survived the crash, which is the second dui accident in two weeks. ktvu's cristina rendon is live on 14th and davis where it happened. >> reporter: this is a very busy street during the day and last night it turned deadly. a man just passed that intersection when a drunk driver hit him head on. >> it was a very bad collision. >> reporter: a tragic cash killed one man and left two cars mangled. she heard the accident from her home. >> not like the sound you hear

>> always so tragic when it is -- it could have been avoided so easily. don't drink and drive. >> that 19-year-old remains in the hospital and she expected to -- he is expected to be okay. when he is released he will be taken to jail for manslaughter. cristina rendon,. >> reporter: new information -- cristina rendon, ktvu channel 2 news. new information about a man who killed a sheriff's deputy. ricardo anthony chaney was in jail two weeks before he went on the crime rampage that ended the life of the deputy. even though police reported finding guns and drugs in his car authorities released joshua cooper for a lack of evidence. he is believed to have killed a 79-year-old man and carjacked a person and ambushed the deputy. he died in a shoot out with

police. a candlelight vigil and memorial this week will honor the deputy. the deputy was a graduate of napa high school where he was a football star and wrestler. it is tuesday evening at 8:00 p.m. outside the justice center and the memorial is 10:00 a.m. wednesday. both events are open to the public. beautiful sunny day around the bay area. here is what it looked like in the mission district this afternoon. a lot of people out there enjoying the mild weather, the sunshine. the morning fog burned off and left blue skies behind. parts of the city got into the 60s and warmerworth in the east -- warmer weather in the east bay. now mark tamayo with more. >> tonight we are clear out the and this weekend the first weekend of spring a nice one. not as warm as nice weekend but still we had 70s to report.

a sheriff's helicopter airlifted a man suffering a heart attack yesterday afternoon taking off from parking lot at the base of hood mountain with a 100-foot long line carrying a stretcher with medical gear. it landed where they took him to the hospital for treatment. in developing news tonight, 18 people are missing in the after math of the huge mudslide outside of seattle. crews are searching for them and the mud is so thick and deep it has been too dangerous to pull out some of the victims. today authorities compared that mudslide to the eruption of mount st. helens. it pushed a square mile of mud

by the train. the engineer says he blew the horn but the teens didn't move out of the way, eventually the boy pushed the girl and saved her life. they were on the way to a school dance. authorities were trying to determine why they didn't respond to the horn. an investigation into the shooting of a man sith in his car outside -- sitting inside his car outside of santa rosa. police say the 21-year-old victim is expected to recover from a single gun shot wound to the leg. the victim said two people in another car fired and drove off. the suspect vehicle was later found abandon. there is no word on a motive. a mountain lion was spotted this morning. the cat was senders 9:00 a.m. on wood side -- seen around 9:00 a.m.
