frank, and they say that they've had 18 robberies in just the past 2-1/2 months and if you have your phone out or if you have head phones in you're more likely to be a target. this is a richmond b.a.r.t. station right here. they say that most of the people who have been targeted have been evening commuters coming out of b.a.r.t. police say that most of the robberies are happening in the late afternoon and evening hours. the robberies have happened within a few blocks of this b.a.r.t. station as people are walking home. some of the robbers have displayed guns and taken cash, credit cards, jewelry or mobile devices. >> the people are usually distracted by tablet or iphone. some sort of device or they're wearing ear buds so they can't hear. they're being followed a block or two then robbed away from the station. >> reporter: richmond police are planning to be here at the station alerting b.a.r.t. riders. they will also be going through the neighborhood to make sure

people are aware of the crime. some of the victims have been spanish speakers so they do plan to have fliers in both english and spanish to alert those people as well. tonight we're going to be working to find out where these crimes are happening and who police may be thinking may be behind this. that's tonight on the 10:00 news. for now, warning to b.a.r.t. riders, just keep those phones away and make sure you are aware of your surroundings. jana katsuyama, ktvu channel 2 news. it took 15 months and dozens of the local and federal administrators, today the county district attorney says the team has dismantled three gangs. the d.a. discussed the county's largest operation on record. allie e rasmus. >> reporter: the operation was

called, it's a sunny day in palo alto. that was code for one of the gangs. >> reporter: the attempted robbery is just one of the incidents investigators say they found. >> reporter: the investigation led to the arrest of 16 people on a variety of charges. including bribed robbery and murder. >> this operation was called a sunny day operation. >> reporter: investigators came up with the name after listening to conversations between the gang members. >> their code word was, it's a sunny day in east palo alto. >> reporter: six weeks worth of

wiretapped conversations recorded seven hours a day and cell phone mapping. >> we can see right where they were at the time of the murdering on the cell phones. >> reporter: in attempted murders that the gangs were involved in put residents at risk. >> you have a shooting on a freeway in the middle of the day where there's cars driving by. that's you or me that could be hit by a stray bullet. but we can't endanger innocent lives and this type of conduct endangers innocent lives. >> reporter: according to that inindictment, two rival gang members who were injured in that freeway shooting but survived, along with that attempted murder, some of the accused gang members were also involved in four other murders. and if convicted they could face life in prison or even the death penalty penalty for those crimes. allie rasmus. we have new information tonight about a shooting in the tenderloin district of san

francisco. five of the eight men who were injured in that shooting is have now been released from the hospital. the victims all suffered gunshot wounds to their arms and legs. a hospital spokesperson says two victims remained at san francisco general in serious condition. police say there was a fight involving a group of people near turk and taylor in the tenderloin just before 9:00 last night. authorities then say one of the people involved in that fight opened fire on the crowd before speeding off in a silver sedan. at this point, police have not made any arrests. san francisco police are also searching for a gunman in a separate shooting that happened just about six blocks away outside a nightclub. police say there was an argument inside the cellar club early saturday morning. one of the men involved in the argument left the club and then waited for the victim outside. when the club closed at about 2:00 a.m., police say the gunman approached in a silver mercedes. >> the suspect got out of that

vehicle, shot the victim numerous times. got back in the vehicle and fled the scene. the victim was a 21-year- old man who suffered critical injuries. police are now searching for the gunman along with another man and two women all seen leaving the club with the shooter. continuing coverage now of that massive landslide in washington state. rescuers recovered six more bodies this afternoon. bringing the death toll to 14. emergency response officials say they have a list of more than 100 100 people who were still unaccounted for. that doesn't mean all those people were missing but the list includes everyone who may have been in the area when a square mile of slope collapsed. among the missing is john regelbrug, the third of yolo county. he is married with five children. >> he's one of those people you think is undestructible then something like this happens.

i just pray to god they find him okay. >> reporter: rescuers are now combing through rubble looking for survivors. they say the chance of finding anyone alive is remote. with the series of storms on the way there are hazards people need to keep an eye on. john fowler tells us what to look out. >> reporter: the earth here has been moving about 50 years or more. it's moved this sidewalk about 4 feet. and turned this street, this is anson way into a wandering roller coaster. nearly every home here has had damage. experts say there's good news and bad news. geo technical specialists tell me that many steep slopes are at risk especially during and after storms. >> you need to have a slope. you need to have poor quality

geology, you need to have water to have a natural landslide. >> reporter: this decades old berkeley hill so called blake mud slide rippled jensen court like a rug. 200 homes here steadily inching down the hill. the slide is a half mile long and unstoppable. slow motion version of this shallow. >> imagine what the water pressure in the soil is. >> reporter: that soil water pressure monitored by usgs computers. this is today's reading. you can see how it spiked then dried out after the last rains.

the drought made soil so dry the major landslides may be the lowest in century. >> deeper, bigger slides. it's been so dry, we're far from having landslides at this point. >> reporter: nevertheless, experts say you should keep an eye for anything unusual in these next storms. john fowler. a verdict today in a case that brought national attention to fake schools designed to get people visas. authorities say the unaccredited school actually had no instructors and no course work. but was issuing visas to foreign students in exchange for tuition fees. authorities say the fake school raked in 5.5 million between

2008 and 2011. the bill would expand hit- and-run penalties to expand automatic license suspensions for drivers who flee the scene of any accident involving another person. the assembly transportation committee passed the bill by a vote of 13-1. right now the law sets the penalty for hit-and- run based on how bad the victims injuries end up being. something not seen by bay area residents and visitors in almost 80 years will soon come into view as the old eastern span of the bay bridge is demolished. tom vacar went under the bridge today for a peak at what can soon be known as the big gap. >> reporter: back in 1936 just before main construction on the bridge was completed, the twin peaked cantelever section had a section that seemed to defie gravity. soon the last connector will fill the torch and the gap will reappear. >> that last cut when somebody will go these things, they are no longer touching.

that cut will be about a 10 minute cut. >> reporter: you would think that when they cut that center section out but the 700 feet of remaining bridge would want to fall in the water but it won't. primarily because it was designed like two diving boards hooked together at the center. since months of demolition time was lost because caltrans spent so much time on the s curve. since time really is money, caltrans says that will speed up the rest of the demolition forever saving money by preventing inflation to prevent costs down the road, tom vacar. the navy has agreed to test every single home on treasure

the san jose police officer accused of rape while on duty appeared in court tonight. back in september graves and other officers took a woman to a hotel after she had been involved in a domestic dispute. after the other officers left graves sexually assaulted the woman. >> we want to assure the community that everything is being handled by the board . and we're going to investigate this just like any other case. >> he's been ordered to turn in his gun and stay away from the

accuser. monica was just 15 when she was kidnapped and became a victim of the sex trafficking industry right here in the streets of oakland. but she did not only survive. she is fighting back. in an interview, she told her story. >> reporter: as soon as you meet monica, you will see her ready smile. look closer and you will see her tremendous strength. >> it was like a big gap as i saw my mother being abused by my stepfather. and then when he started abusing me. sexual abusing me. >> reporter: she was headed to her friend's house when a car drove up alongside her. >> i remember mike just being like. go get her. then i remember getting my hair pulled and being dragged into a car with a shirt being pulled over my head.

they started like sitting on me so i couldn't get up. >> reporter: she says she ended up in a house in sa -- sacramento surrounded by other victims and the seven men that took her. >> he was like, you're going to make some money. you're going to make money for all of us. and we have to try out the merchandise. so they all raped me. >> reporter: that began her ordeal that took her from oakland to san francisco and even vegas. >> when i was with him he would show me to everybody. he was like, this is my property. this is mine right here. >> reporter: it wasn't until her pimp got her pregnant that things changed. she miscarried the baby. >> whatever happens happen, i'm

topics. governor jerry brown has signed a bill to protect patients being forced to switch health insurance plans while still being treated for a serious illness. the continuity of care act closes a loophole here in california. it ensuring insurance coverage even if a patient's provider is not covered under the plan. the insurance is supposed to help 19,000 californians who would other wise lose insurance. they held a news conference in which they pointed out there's an estimated 200,000 people exposed to tuberculosis and they don't even know about it. >> i think people don't realize how much tuberculosis is

around. >> the number of tuberculosis cases in santa clara county is greater than that of 38 of the 50 states. here are some facts about tuberculosis. it's an airborne disease. it can affect the lungs but can affect other parts of the body as well. a person with tb can die if they don't get treatment. tb in the lungs causes coughing, chest pain and coughing up of blood. big changes coming our way. first of all temperatures tomorrow are going to be about 10 to 15 degrees cooler than they were today. look at numbers we had. 81 in livermore. 79 in antioch. 79 morgan hill. temperatures tomorrow, you're mid- and low 60s. clouds are coming in. there's the system i'm tracking. look at the clouds right along the coast. you can see the fog that was there this morning. that front getting closer and breaking up the inversion and the fog just kind of goes away. it went away now it's out of
