shore looks good. the drive time is less than ten minutes. 580 coming in from 205 into livermore this is a nice drive over to castro valley with no major problems. the traffic continues to move along very well if you are driving on 880 south. let's go back to the desk. an investigation is under way into a suspected hit and run crash in san francisco. several people were injured in the two vehicle pileup. ktvu tara moriarty is live in san francisco at the intersection where it happened. tara, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. as this was indeed a hit and run, the suspects did not get very far. and the good news is that this crash looks a lot worse than it was. also the people involved in this accident was take ton the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. it happened at 12:30 this

morning. a silver sedan slammed into a van. the three people inside that sedan tried to run off. >> they probably just say oh they might have stolen a car. once they hit the car all the people in the car just ran away. >> now police have not confirmed who was in either vehicle or exactly how the accident played out. but witnesses say officers ran after the suspects and able to catch them. no word if the car was stolen or who faces any charges. back here live there does seem to be a little damage over here. right in front of mels diner. it appears a traffic light is out from the collision. we will see if city workers cut here to repair it. the good news is that there are other traffic lights in this area so that people should have no problems getting through this intersection again at vanness and geary. >> thank you. this morning oakland police are also looking for suspects

in a deadly shooting. it happened around 11:30 last night. near eighth and campbell streets. the officers that arrived at the scene spotted the victim lying on the street along with 30 shell casings. investigators say the young man had been shot several times and pronounced dead add the scene. it's not clear what led up to the deadly gunfire. >> governor brown will be among the thousands of people attending this morning's funeral for the sheriffs deputy who 'cuz killed in the line -- who was killed in the line of duty last week. it begins at 10:00 at the cotton auditorium in fort bragg. he was a star wrestler and football player at napa school in the early 1980s. a wanted fugitive killed him in an ambush style attack. we are learning more about the young man with was killed in a suspected drunk driving

crash in fremont. he was a 23-year-old marine who was just back from a tour of duty overseas. police say lance corporal andrew silva was riding his motorcycle on fremont boulevard when a car ran a red light and slammed into his bike. last night family members and friends gathered for a candle light vigil at the intersection where he was killed. >> they brought a u.s. flag and a marine corp flag down to cover up the body out of respect for him. >> the young marine from union city just returned home from afghanistan last month. he was married with a two-year- old son. e-cigarettes are harder to get in both san francisco and santa clara county. the san francisco board of supervisors unanimously passed a law yesterday requiring e- cigarettes to be treated like

real cigarettes. so the devices are banned in places like parks, hospitals, and apartment buildings. san francisco firefighters will remember some of their fallen colleagues. in the last ten years at least 230 firefighters in the city have died from cancer. each one of them will be represented by a pair of firefighter boots at city hall today. the board of supervisors is considering a law that would let firefighters file for work related disability benefits when they are diagnosissed with cancer. drivers who threaten or assault bicyclists or people walking on the street could soon face a hefty fine in oakland. yesterday council woman liby shaft held a press conference and introduced a law that would make it a civil violation for drivers to harass pedestrians or cyclists. a victim could sue a driver.

cutting down thousands of trees are joining forces. pg&e says it needs to remove the trees because they block access to natural gas pipelines. but city leaders say the utility is ignore local laws. time is 4:37. tomorrow the new walking trail along devil slide opens to the public. our cameras got an early look at the trail that sits on the former 1.3-mile stretch in highway 101 in san mateo county. and there are three overlooks. rangers say it gives people the opportunity to stop and enjoy the views. they say observation scopes will be added for people to get a really good look at the area. now to our continuing coverage of the massive landslide in washington. the official death toll is now 16 but as many as 24 others are

feared dead and at least 176 people are listed as missing. crews say in some areas the dirt and debris is 20 feet deep. they say yesterday's rain made conditions even worse and crews say their best hope now is for recovering people search dogs. >> the dogs are the ones that are pinpointing a particular area to look and we're looking and that is how we are finding people. >> friends and family members of the missing are still holding out hope. they say it's possible the loved ones have found an air pocket or another way to survive while they wait for rescuers. it could be the most important discovery yet in the missing airliner. new satellite images show 122 objects floating in the southern i. january ocean. they range in size from about a foot to 23 feet. they appear to be bright, possibly indicating solid materials. now planes spotted three

objects but none were obvious plane parts. meantime two american devices to pinpoint the pings from the flight data recorder arrived in australia today. a special unmanned submarine can travel across the ocean floor and find submerged objects at depths of 15,000 feet. the u.s. has september a giant listening device towed behind a ship that can get pings 20,000 feet. they filed a petition for discovery in an illinois state court. attorneys believe the incident was caused by mechanical failure. the firm expects to represent families of more than half of the 239 passengers. they are also representing many of the passengers in the asiana airlines crash at sfo last

time is 4:44. greg suhr faced an angry you last night as he tried to explain what led officers to shoot and kill a man at beeral heights park. he says nieto drew his taser and because officers could only see a black weapon they opened fire. >> they asked him to show his hands to which he responded you need to show your hands. >> his family and friends say he carried a taser because he worked as a security guard at a nightclub. they are planning to protest the shooting from marching from the 24th and mission bart station to bernal heights park. a date for that has not been set. two mep have been arrested in a shooting that injured eight people in the tenderloin.

they are 25-year-old curtis loan. both men are connected to crime. all eight victims are expected to survive as well. police say the shooter was apparently targeting a man who owed him less than $50. members of an elite team of secret service agents are facing disciplinary action. they are trained to protect the president or his motorcade if attacked. but they were sent home yesterday from the netherlands before the president arrived. one agent was found drunk in a hotel hallway. two others did not intervene. the behavior violates rules imposed after an incident in south america two years ago involving alcohol and prostitutes. preparations are under way for next month's boston marathon. crews are painting the finishing line and getting things ready. estimated one million people will watch the 36,000 registered runners. the fbi and police are now working around the clock

planning the security for the first race since last year's deadly bombing when three people were killed and more than 260 others were injured. architects in connecticut are laying out their plans for the new sandy hook elementary school. the city decided to tear down the old school after a gunman killed 20 students and six teachers in december of 2012. since then sandy hook students have been attending classes at a nearby monroe connecticut. time is 4:47. new rules for the 49ers stadium in santa clara moving forward. they include a ban on weapons of any kind. running on the field, and bringing alcohol. fans are not allowed to throw objects such as footballs inside or outside of the stadium and you can only sit in the seat you have a ticket for. santa clara police came up with the rules. the city council passed them last night. and there is a big winner in

yesterday's little system it department do much it held together and gave us credit. definitely knocked the high pressure out of it. the next system is now moving in and this one is much stronger. the rain is picking up in the north bay. santa rosa says rain, not light rain but rain. cloudy to the south. rain to the north. that is kind of the forecast today. there will be heavier amounts points north. you can see up toward northern napa county. santa rosa, healdsburg. i didn't encounter any rain on the way in. there is definitely a fine line from marin county to solano county and north. south of that is cloudy. it looks like sun is picking up. 40s and 50s on the temps. if these drop one or two degrees i would be shocked. a little breeze is picking up as well. you can see the cloud cover

francisco's hall of justice but it was all made for tv. tnt's new crime show murder in the first shooting on location. actors playing reporters and police warned the series star. at least two more big movies are scheduled to come to san francisco this year. there is a new terminator movie and the marvel comics ant man. ashley cullen works in san mateo. she says early saturday morning she was taking out the trash when she spotted a man with some of the restaurant's tvs outside and realized she was being robbed. it was then collin recognized the robber as the same man that approached her a half hour earlier to ask her out. >> she just said i've seen you around before and wanted to talk to and never really got the chance. here's my number. let's hang out later. >> by the time the officers arrived, the man had left the area. officers used the phone number he left to set up a fake date

and arrest him. he is now facing numerous charges including possession of stolen items which officers found after searching his office. someone is poisoning lawns in one san jose neighborhood and $1,000 reward is being offered to catch the culprit. one homeowner says the incident dates back to halloween of 2012. neighbors say they are concerned because whoever is behind the attack is getting bolder. >> so our biggest concern is what happens when the thrill is over? what will they turn to next? will they target our homes? our cars? our families? >> homeowners in the area have raised the money for the reward. they are asking anyone with information on the case to call san jose police. ktvu news has learned walnut creek police plan to do something they haven't done in 25 years. they are going to patrol the campuses of city schools. the plan calls for having a
