free mason organization headquartered in san francisco. >> we have live team coverage tonight. ktvu's eric rasmussen has been going through the federal indictment against california state senator leland yee and two associates. we begin with ktvu's david stevenson in san francisco with more details about the charges that came to light as leland yee appeared in court this afternoon. p david? >> reporter: frank, you can see the camera crews that are waiting for leland yee to leave the building. in court today he sat listening to the charges and shared a laugh with his attorney, even though the charges he is facing is serious, including wide fraud. federal agents arrested leland yee home early this morning. here is leland yee arriving after 9:00 a.m. in handcuffs. he did not answer questions questions questions and appeared in court this afternoon. the compliant adjudged starting in 2012 he solicited thousands

of dollars for his failed campaign and his run for secretary of state, from undercover fbi agents. he solicited a donation to put them in touch with a arms dealer through lee. it details meetings with the agents discussing specific types of weapons that could be brought in to the country. agents allege lee orders him to take $11,000 in cash during a hotel meeting, to bribe lee to push flew medical marijuana legislation. >> i don't hang out with leland yee as much so i don't know everything about his life but i give him the benefit of the doubt because he is a public officer for the state he is held to the same standards we are. >> reporter: lee was brought by

the fbi to court here. he is free on bond but due in court on monday for another bond hearing. reporting live in san francisco, david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. >> the fire department was called in today to help open a safe inside the free masons organization. they left headquarters carrying bags and boxes full of evidence. an employee told ktvu investigators had a hard time breaking open a antique safe. they used every tool they had -- every tool they had. raymond "shrimp boy" chow led the free masons at one time. investigators collected paper work about his business dealings from the building. more details now, raymond chow is a former member of the china town street gang. he was convicted on federal charges of attempted murder, robbery, gun trafficking and racketeering. he was released from prison in 2003 after cutting a deal with

the government to testify against a associate. and as we mentioned he is the head of the free masons. >> here are the three main players in the fbi's case. california state senator leland yee represents san francisco. he started on the san francisco school board, served as a supervisor and in the state assembly. raymond "shrimp boy" chow was also among those arrested today and the fbi raided the office of his free masons organization. and college of -- keith jackson. tonight 2 investigates the 3 figures and the case against them. ktvu's eric rasmussen has been going through the indictments and she here now. >> the 137 page indictment accuses california state senator leland yee of offering favors to an undercover agent

in exchange for campaign donations. >> reporter: agents say california state senator leland yee and keith jacksub turned their -- jackson turned their sites on raising illegal campaign money. they met with an under cover agent and discussed how they would break up a large sum of cash into legitimate campaign donations. we found several contributions from 2800 to $4,000 but the federal indictment says there was more money on the line. when an under cover agent offered donations in exchange for a meeting with an arms dealer. when leland yee was offered $5,000 to help raymond "shrimp boy" chow get his ankle monitor

removed he turned it down. prosecutors said he said when he became secretary of state he wanted them to make all the money because he did about want to go to -- didn't want to go to jail. prosecutors accused jackson of conspiring to commit a murder for hire but there is no evidence a killing was carried out. eric rasmussen, ktvu channel 2 news. >> and stern words from darrel steinburg who said leland yee would be suspended if he doesn't resign by friday. they were scene hauling away boxes of evidence. shock rippled through the halls of the capital. he said while leland yee is presumed innocence till proven guilty the indictment sickened him. >> don't burden your colleagues in this great institution with

san jose. skies began to clear later in the day but more rain is in the forecast. chief meteorologist bill martin is tracking patches of rain right now. >> it rained hard this morning. an inch of rain in some locations. here comes the numbers. you saw 7/10 of an inch. inch in san jose. great news. we need the rain and there is more out there right now. pittsburg you know what i am talking about. highway 4. showers started dissipating now by the bridge. showers erupted east of sky line boulevard, those showers still lingering. south to morgan hill, showers died out. the story here, scattered showers, dying out. still a chance of showers tomorrow morning. but this is storm number one, of potentially two more headed our way. i will put that together when

of opportunities to catch distracted drivers in action. we caught someone texting while driving too. >> i have like the before and afters. >> reporter: he is on a public safety crusade. a couple months ago he create said twit spotting. texting while in track. >> i know it sounds like public shaming but the intend is to raise awareness. >> reporter: he used thousands of dollars of his own money to put his pictures on billboards. he hopes it discourages bad behavior. >> if a few people think twice you will never be able to prove it but if one life is saved, is it worth it? absolutely. >> reporter: we wondered if we could be sued but we talk to a law professor who said he is probably safe because most drivers on a public highway have no expectation of privacy. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2

news. chevron will be pumping new jobs into the richmond area. the bay area oil giant announced this morning the $1 billion project will create 1,000 construction jobs. right now the unemployment rate in richmond is 11.5%. that is almost twice the rate for the rest of the country. chevron said this morning one of the goals is to increase job about toes for people who live in richmond. next week shoppers in five cities will have to pay more sales tax. beginning april 1 1. the increases range from 25 cents to 50 cents. they were approved last fall. it will be used to help budget short falls and improve public safety. antioch leaders are taking steps to deal with stray cats.

the city counsel approved a ordinance that will make it illegal to feed feral cats. final adoption of thordinance is expected -- the ordinance is expected next month. pg&e's plan to cut down trees is angering mayors. walnut creek is considering a legal fight try to stop the -- fight to try to stop the removal because the trees grow up gas pipeline. pg&e says they need to remove the trees for maintenance. now the mayors demanded a meeting with pg&e. they said the project will cause great community harm to the cities. you could hear the sound of social change from oracle arena as thousands of students celebrated we day. >> are you ready to change the

this is sacramento area, roseville. a cell that is strong, possibly tornadic. a tornado warning till 6:30 p.m. a strong cell and this activity could continue for the next hour or so. it is unsettled weather. unstable weather. cold air and nasty storms. we had heavy down pours. right now they are tapering off. the hardest has been the pittsburg area. those showers are starting to back up. danville and san ramon. rain across 680. this area starting to get hit with rain. that is enough to slow you down. you know how it is. trying to get around. the story next couple days is the high pressure nubbing north. somespriles could show up in the bay -- some sprinkles could show up in the bay area thursday and friday.

san francisco mayor ed lee backed legislation to give disabled firefighters the benefit of the doubt when they say their work caused illnesses like cancer. the mayor made the announcement today to remember firefighter who died of cancer. 200 empty pairs of boots represented the firefighter whose died. now they are often denied benefits because they carry the burden to prove their job caused the cancer. they plan to introduce the change in the law. mark is here now with sports and warriors players reacting to a coach being demoted. >> five full days to get 5 days
